Authentic Tuscan living suggests a key location with spectacular views of the countryside, a private farm for olive harvesting, and the most delicious meals in the world (prepared especially for you by the owner) ... all this and more is what you have to look forward to at this lovely farmhouse accommodation in Tuscany! Warm, welcoming, and pleasant, this Tuscany vacation rental is so lovingly taken care of, that you and your family will instantly feel at home. Whether you picture yourself exploring medieval hill towns, taking day trips to Florence and Siena, gazing out at the views of the Apennines and San Gimignano from the terrace, or simply relaxing by the pool, this holiday farmhouse in Tuscany is the perfect place to start!
Location Description

The farmhouse is located four kilometers from Barberino Val d'Elsa where there shops, restaurants, a great pizzeria, a market, a bank, and a post office. Dating back to the Middle Ages, Barberino Val d'Elsa marks the midway point between Siena and Florence. The village has an ancient church, castle, chapel, and beautiful views of the olive groves and vineyards that make up much of the Chianti Classico region. San Gimignano, a town you can see from the farmhouse, is a great place to go for a day trip. As one of the most visited towns in Tuscany, it is known for its rich history dating back to the Etruscan times. It is full of life and things to do. Popular attractions include the famous towers, the 12th century Duomo, the People's Palace, and several museums dedicated to artwork and archeology. There are also plenty of wine tasting tours, art galleries, shops, and delicious restaurants. Numerous celebrations and gatherings are held every year including a music festival featuring theater, ballet, and opera performances, and a Medieval Harvest festival where the people of San Gimignano dress up as knights, play medieval games, and have tournaments. Of course, you'll also want to visit Florence and Siena during your trip and a train station in Certaldo, which is only 15 minutes away from the property, can get you there easily and conveniently.

Nearby Attractions: Barberino Val d'Elsa (markets, shops, restaurants, pizzeria, bank, post office, ancient church, castle, chapel), Certaldo Alto, the Medieval village and birthplace of Boccaccio, Certaldo (train station), San Gimginano (towers, Duomo, People's Palace, museums, wine tasting, shops, restaurants, annual festivals)

Exterior Description
(2,000 m2/21,528 ft2)

Originally built in the 15th century, this farmhouse is also situated on a foundation dating back to Medieval Times. Located in a peaceful position on top of one of the Chianti hills and within the Archeological Park of Semifonte, there are spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and valleys, where you can see not only the Apennines, but San Gimignano as well. An interesting fact about the location is that the surrounding valley used to be the main road (via Francigena) from the north to the south of Europe for merchants and pilgrims. The garden features a small farm where olives are harvested for extra virgin olive oil. There is a terrace on the first floor furnished with a bench, table, and chairs, and a patio on the ground floor with a table, chairs, and umbrella and a private infinity swimming pool which is open from early May to the end of September (15m x 5m). The farmhouse is located on a quiet road with very little traffic, although wall covered with vines separates the property from the road. Parking is available within the grounds.

Customer Reviews

We enjoyed it very much. We have been to Tuscany several times and we were very pleased with everything at Donatella. When we arrived there was a welcome basket of wine and good things to eat. It was nice because we hadn't had a chance to buy groceries.
Enjoyed Most:
The views are amazing. The villa is very spacious with comfortable furniture, several eating venues and very comfortable beds. The helpfulness of the property owners was also amazing and appreciated.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing we disliked.
Surrounding Area:
The views from the living room windows were amazing. One evening the sunset was incredibly beautiful. We also loved hearing the history of the area from villa owner Giancarlo Mantovani.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo, six miles, where we took the train for day trips and Barbierino Val d' Elsa, 12 miles. Not really walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
We ate wonderful food wherever we went. Matteo Mantovani has recommendations for restaurants and will make the reservation for you.
Use a GPS!
Check In Out:
No, we left a day early to spend in Florence. Checking out was easy and Giancarlo, Emma and Matteo gave us a lovely send off.

Our overall experience staying at Donatella was simply fantastic. The villa is just beautiful. The accommodations were so nice and very comfortable. The views were simply breathtaking. The pool was amazing, again with a gorgeous view.
Enjoyed Most:
I would say the views from the villa, and the family that owns and runs it. Emma, Giancarlo and Matteo are an amazing family and provide you with the best experience while staying at the villa. The beds were very comfortable. The living room has all large glass windows that overlook the most amazing view of the Tuscan country. The pool was so relaxing and again had tremendous views.
Enjoyed Least:
There was absolutely nothing not to like here!!
Surrounding Area:
Amazing Tuscan views. Beautiful small towns around us. Wonderful countryside!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Barberino was just down the road! Was a very nice walk!
Tips or Restaurants:
My suggestion is to ask Matteo and Emma for their recommendations on restaurants. That is what we did and they had some great places to go to. I would stop at the local grocery store on the way in just to grab some breakfast items, milk, juice, and whatever snack items you might like if your hanging by the pool...
We hired Matteo to pick us up so we didn't experience this issue.
Check In Out:
Everything went so smooth and so nice. Emma had a nice welcome basket filled with cookies, their own olive oil which is amazing, some juice, eggs, wine, and other goodies. That was such a nice treat. When we left, it was like saying goodbye to family! Emma, Giancarlo, and Matteo are truly amazing hosts. They made our trip to Italy so very special!!

My family had a wonderful time at Donatella. The rooms were spacious and clean, the views spectacular! We enjoyed the pool on hot afternoons. Matteo, Emma and Jon Carlo were so helpful and kind I would highly recommend this villa experience
Enjoyed Most:
Beautiful relaxing family atmosphere. Able to travel to various cities but you need a car. The owners offer a meal preparation as well as cooking class. Delicious and fun! Also give directions, places to visit and offered a tour which was exceptional! We also sampled and purchased the olive oil made on the property ... very good.
Enjoyed Least:
Loved it all .....but you need to be prepared to drive the hills and valleys of Tuscany and enjoy the view. Smaller car recommended.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We drove to all locations. Certaldo the nearest town. Also visited Siena, San Gimignano, Montepulciano to name a few.
Tips or Restaurants:
We ate in whatever city we were visiting that day. I would recommend planning ahead and making reservations especially if you are in a group.
We relied heavily on our own GPS.
Check In Out:
Very easy as the owners were very informative and very helpful throughout the experience.
