About The Experience
If you have dreamed of living in a castle, but thought it could never happen in this modern world, think again! This incredible villa rental in Spain's Catalonia region is ready and waiting to make your dreams come true. Located near the Costa Brava, this historic (officially documented as over 1,000 years old!) villa in Spain offers the best of both worlds – a laid-back, tranquil experience on site, but only a short distance from many extraordinary Catalan historic, cultural, and scenic sights and activities. You may want to sample many of the fresh veggies, seafood, spices, and wines for which Catalan is famous, but we recommend that you take advantage of the facilities at this Spain villa, and settle in on top of the tower in the lookout area for morning coffee, or an evening glass of wine. Enjoy the 360 degree panoramic view while watching the sun rise or set, or wait for later in the evening, when the stars come out and seem to be within your reach.
Location Description

This stunning castle is located at the center of northeast Catalonia’s ‘Golden Triangle’, the spectacular area that stretches between Begur, Girona, and Sant Feliu. This Costa Brava stretch of Spain is well known for its temperate climate, lush vegetation and woods, and spectacular cliffs, outlined against the tranquil beaches and the blue and green immensity of the sea. Equidistant from the Mediterranean Sea and the snow-capped mountains of the Pyrenees, this property near Celra offers the best of Spanish Catalan and the Costa Brava. Take a 5 minute walk down the hill from the castle into Celra, where you can visit the grocery, butcher, bakery, or fishmonger, shop for other regional specialties, such as olives and espadrilles, and frequent the weekly produce market. The castle also borders the Cavarres Nature Preserve, where you will be serenaded by cuckoos and nightingales. Also within an easy drive of 30 minutes or less is the town of La Bisbal, with its ceramic/pottery center; Figueres, home of the Salvador Dali museum and estate; Girona, the historic medieval walled city with its ancient cathedrals; and Costa Brava’s Mediterranean Coast, with secluded coves, white sand, kayaking, and fresh seafood. Throughout the Catalan region, you will find golf courses, natural volcanic parks, and biking trails favored by Tour de France riders.

Nearby Attractions: Barcelona - Las Ramblas, the Episcopal Palace, the Palace of the Generalitat, Gaudi's La Familia Sagrada, La Pedrera, the Battlló House, the Milá House and Park Güell; La Bisbal - pottery-ceramic center; Girona - cathedral from 1680, Jewish quarter, chic and stylish shops; Costa Brava’s Mediterranean Coast - hiking, cycling, beaches; Cadaques - on Cap de Creus Peninsula, a nature reserve, rugged cliffs and beaches; Pals – beach; Begur - castle, galleries; Figueres - Salvador Dali Museum and home; Besalu - 12th century Roman bridge.

Customer Reviews

Good. Great spot.
Enjoyed Most:
Uniqueness, history, view, close proximity to Girona. The chef was outstanding.
Surrounding Area:
The area around Girona is extraordinary for cycling.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Easy walk into Celra to the market, baker. Celra is not the most attractive town. Getting into Girona was much better.
Tips or Restaurants:
Nothing specific, the area is full of great restaurants.
It is an odd location and doesn't appear on all GPS systems ...ours took us the wrong way.... perhaps a map would be helpful.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out were fine.

Everything was great! We enjoyed Castillo Girona, and the caretaker was terrific. Thanks for your help and appreciate your excellent follow-up. Great job.
Enjoyed Most:
The castle was very unique, and I think it dated back to 1050. Fortunately the weather was perfect when we were there, so no AC or heat was needed.
Enjoyed Least:
Perhaps the only annoyance was barking dogs early late evening which no one could control.

Enjoyed Most:
Location. The property manager was very helpful and cheerful.
Enjoyed Least:
An inoperative stove and plumbing noise. Editor's Note: The stove has been fixed. August 2011.
Surrounding Area:
Availability to a variety of examples of the culture of the area.
Tips or Restaurants:
The Castle has a good list.
