About The Experience

This apartment provides one of the best ways to enjoy a vacation rental in agritourism in Tuscany. This Tuscany apartment is surrounded not only by beautiful grounds, but by a large working farm that produces everything the Tuscan region is renowned for: wine, olive oil, visanto, and grappa. This farmhouse accommodation in Tuscany is within an original and carefully restored building—a quiet, peaceful location with great views and in an excellent position for taking day trips throughout Tuscany.

Location Description

Located on one of the larger working farms in this region, this property comes under the Italian category of “agriturismo.” It is situated in a beautiful rural position, but its place between Siena and Florence also makes this a great jumping-off point for day trips throughout Tuscany. The nearest village is Staggia, a beautiful little walled town with a castle overgrown with greenery. Here you'll also find the basics, from food to a post office and a café. Nearby Siena is a treasure trove of medieval architecture and authentic Tuscan culture-- including the famed annual bareback horserace! Other great locales in the region include San Gimignano, Volterra, and Florence.

Exterior Description
(35 Hectares)

This apartment is located on a working farm that produces wine, olive oil, Vinsanto, and grappa, as well as various grain crops. There are also uncultivated areas which, in the spring, are covered with poppies. Picturesque paths through these areas lead to adjacent farms. The original 19th century farmhouse, in which this apartment is located, has been carefully restructured and transformed into six modernized apartments, each with its own entrance. The house is located on a hilltop, affording a panoramic view over the hills of the Chianti district. Surrounding the house is a communal garden and shared swimming pool which is open from late April to mid-October (14m x 7m). There is also a cement tennis court in the center of the farmstead, racquets are provided. A large barbecue and covered dining table are the center of the communal area, along with ping-pong, children's games, a play house, a slide, and a swing. Small individual tables and barbecues are also provided for the convenience of individual families. A selection of mountain bikes is available for use. A large parking area is located in front of the house, and there are shared laundry facilities.
At the completion of the harvest season, a celebration is held, during which all guests are invited to sample the many flavors and products of the land. In the cantina (cellar), run by the head of the family, there is a shop where guests may purchase bottles of wine for their own use. The owner's family occupies a separate unit in the farmhouse building. The family cares for the garden and provides homemade baked pastries as part of the welcome extended to new guests, or in celebration of special events.

A wonderful place to relax.
Enjoyed Most:
The owners!
Enjoyed Least:
The shower door!
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful vineyards, rolling green hills, views of the castle, quiet location
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. Walking distance yes but very narrow roads so not recommended
Tips or Restaurants:
Pick up food for antipasto platter in Poggibonsi and have with the nice choices of wine in the family cellar.
Suggest people come by car and a little tricky to get there by public transport (although Rudi came and picked us up from the bus in Staggia, once they realised we didn't have a car at that stage).

Beautiful property, apartment well-appointed. Claudia and Rudi very friendly and helpful finding local eateries, grocery stores. Very quiet and although we were the only guests at the time each apartment has their own outside area for cocktails or outdoor dining. Then there is a community area where there is a BBQ grill and a newly built pizza oven. Claudia invited us to come with the family and cook pizza which we gladly did. Sipped some of their wine with the pizza as well! A wonderful experience.
Enjoyed Most:
Well my husband was particularly fond of the help yourself (honor system) wine room. It is just a pretty setting very much as "advertised".
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing to dislike
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful views, everything so green and lush. Close to areas we wanted to visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia, within walking distance but narrow roads. Unless you had to I would not recommend walking.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you are an American, washcloths. Not just Italy but Europeans do not use washcloths! All other amenities were provided.
Used a GPS but once you get to Staggia directions were accurate.
Check In Out:
Very smooth procedure. Claudia is very efficient!

Wonderful...awesome!! It was so peaceful and relaxing, just what we needed! The hosts were very welcoming, friendly and helpful they gave us additional information for day trips and where to find specific shops. The other guests were friendly but also respectful of privacy. We hope to return in a few years!
Enjoyed Most:
It was so quiet and peaceful! Each window of our villa had a beautiful view! The villa was centrally located for various day trips--perfect setting! And the hosts literally made us feel at home!
Enjoyed Least:
Surrounding Area:
All the different cities and towns that we could explore such as San Gimignano (which you could actually see in the distance when walking down the farm lane) Monteriggioni, Siena, and Firenze. My husband loves medieval history and castles...plenty to visit. We also drove to the beach one day. We enjoyed hiking around the farm. So many good places to go and eat, but we enjoyed cooking our own meals in the evening after our day trips and eating outside in our own private dining area...great views all around!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia...about a mile away. We chose to drive into town for groceries since it was easier. The roads are narrow and traffic sometimes fast which makes walking along the road somewhat challenging.
Tips or Restaurants:
Every restaurant we went to had great meals...but one of the best was a restaurant in the square in Siena, where they have the horse racing, I believe it was called al Mangia ristorante. We also had several great wines some of our favorites were white wines in Cinque Terre and San Gimignano. We also enjoyed the wines produced at the farm where our villa was located and the fact that we could pick-up a bottle whenever we needed one, made it very convenient!
We did use a GPS, which was installed in our car that was a great help. On occasions we also used the GPS on our iphone to clarify when the car GPS was confusing.
Check In Out:
It was very convenient. The host greeted us as we pulled-up the driveway (we had given her an estimated time of arrival) and we checked in immediately after a tour of the facilities she told us to knock on their door if we needed anything and the office wasn't open. Check-out was equally easy and we finalized additional payment for wine the evening before our departure since we were leaving early the next morning.
