About The Experience

This apartment provides one of the best ways to enjoy a vacation rental in agritourism in Tuscany. This Tuscany apartment is surrounded not only by beautiful grounds, but by a large working farm that produces everything the Tuscan region is renowned for: wine, olive oil, visanto, and grappa. This farmhouse accommodation in Tuscany is within an original and carefully restored building—a quiet, peaceful location with great views and in an excellent position for taking day trips throughout Tuscany.

Location Description

Located on one of the larger working farms in this region, this property comes under the Italian category of “agriturismo.” It is situated in a beautiful rural position, but its place between Siena and Florence also makes this a great jumping-off point for day trips throughout Tuscany. The nearest village is Staggia, a beautiful little walled town with a castle overgrown with greenery. Here you'll also find the basics, from food to a post office and a café. Nearby Siena is a treasure trove of medieval architecture and authentic Tuscan culture-- including the famed annual bareback horserace! Other great locales in the region include San Gimignano, Volterra, and Florence.

Exterior Description
(35 Hectares)

This apartment is located on a working farm that produces wine, olive oil, Vinsanto, and grappa, as well as various grain crops. There are also uncultivated areas which, in the spring, are covered with poppies. Picturesque paths through these areas lead to adjacent farms. The original 19th century farmhouse, in which this apartment is located, has been carefully restructured and transformed into six modernized apartments, each with its own entrance. The house is located on a hilltop, affording a panoramic view over the hills of the Chianti district. Surrounding the house is a communal garden and shared swimming pool which is open from late April to mid-October (14m x 7m). There is also a cement tennis court in the center of the farmstead, racquets are provided. A large barbecue and covered dining table are the center of the communal area, along with ping-pong, children's games, a play house, a slide, and a swing. Small individual tables and barbecues are also provided for the convenience of individual families. A selection of mountain bikes is available for use. A large parking area is located in front of the house, and there are shared laundry facilities.
At the completion of the harvest season, a celebration is held, during which all guests are invited to sample the many flavors and products of the land. In the cantina (cellar), run by the head of the family, there is a shop where guests may purchase bottles of wine for their own use. The owner's family occupies a separate unit in the farmhouse building. The family cares for the garden and provides homemade baked pastries as part of the welcome extended to new guests, or in celebration of special events.

Customer Reviews

Our stay greatly facilitated the overall enjoyment of our experience in Tuscany. It is centrally located, and provided easy access to all of the places we wanted to visit including Siena, Florence, and several smaller towns. Most of all, Claudia, the host, has created an informal, homey environment that makes it an easy place to be.
Enjoyed Most:
Because we were off on day trips most of the time, we did not take advantage of the facilities that were available. The pool, for one, is a great feature of the property. We also like staying at an agriturismo. This property is a true working estate, and gives guests a connection to surroundings not available to those who stay at a hotel.
Surrounding Area:
The sense of history was most compelling. The architecture, the vineyards, the olive groves all link the present to the past in a particularly dramatic way.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia is about 2 kilometers away. Though a manageable walk, we drove whenever we went to town.
Tips or Restaurants:
Claudia provides everything you need in terms of domestic items. Aside from the basics, bring a GOOD guide book eg. Cadogan or Lonely Planet, a map to back up the GPS, a smart phone, (an I-PAD can be useful), and begin several weeks before your departure mastering some basic Italian greetings, and vocabulary. It comes in handy, and the locals appreciate the effort even though you will probably mispronounce much of what you say.
Directions were spot on.

Outstanding. Claudia and Rudy are wonderful hosts!
Enjoyed Most:
Claudia and Rudy made us feel like family.
Enjoyed Least:
Really liked everything. I guess the shower was a little small.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful, quiet scenery.
Tips or Restaurants:
Claudia provides excellent advice. No need to bring anything. The red wine at the villa is excellent!
Be sure to have a GPS...When renting a car, be sure the GPS language is one you understand...ours was Italian, and I couldn't find out how to change it. The town is off the ra3, not the a1.
Check In Out:
Very smooth.

A wonderful place to relax.
Enjoyed Most:
The owners!
Enjoyed Least:
The shower door!
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful vineyards, rolling green hills, views of the castle, quiet location
Nearby Events or Locales:
Staggia. Walking distance yes but very narrow roads so not recommended
Tips or Restaurants:
Pick up food for antipasto platter in Poggibonsi and have with the nice choices of wine in the family cellar.
Suggest people come by car and a little tricky to get there by public transport (although Rudi came and picked us up from the bus in Staggia, once they realised we didn't have a car at that stage).
