About The Experience

Observe a working Italian farm firsthand from this apartment in a farmhouse in Tuscany. On a large estate that produces wine, olive oil, visanto, and grappa, this farmhouse accommodation in Tuscany is a real experience in agritourism. You can explore the farm or, alternately, spend your days taking day trips to the many Tuscany locations near this vacation rental: Volterra, Siena, San Gimignano, Florence, and more.

Location Description

Located on one of the larger working farms in this region, this property comes under the Italian category of “agriturismo.” It is situated in a beautiful rural position, but its place between Siena and Florence also makes this a great jumping-off point for day trips throughout Tuscany. The nearest village is Staggia, a beautiful little walled town with a castle overgrown with greenery. Here you'll also find the basics, from food to a post office and a café. Nearby Siena is a treasure trove of medieval architecture and authentic Tuscan culture-- including the famed annual bareback horserace! Other great locales in the region include San Gimignano, Volterra, and Florence.

Exterior Description
(35 Hectares)

This apartment is located on a working farm that produces wine, olive oil, Vinsanto, and grappa, as well as various grain crops. There are also uncultivated areas which, in the spring, are covered with poppies. Picturesque paths through these areas lead to adjacent farms. The original 19th century farmhouse, in which this apartment is located, has been carefully restructured and transformed into six modernized apartments, each with its own entrance. The house is located on a hilltop, affording a panoramic view over the hills of the Chianti district. Surrounding the house is a communal garden and shared swimming pool which is open from late April to mid-October (14m x 7m). There is also a cement tennis court in the center of the farmstead, racquets are provided. A large barbecue and covered dining table are the center of the communal area, along with ping-pong, children's games, a play house, a slide, and a swing. Small individual tables and barbecues are also provided for the convenience of individual families. A selection of mountain bikes is available for use. A large parking area is located in front of the house, and there are shared laundry facilities.
At the completion of the harvest season, a celebration is held, during which all guests are invited to sample the many flavors and products of the land. In the cantina (cellar), run by the head of the family, there is a shop where guests may purchase bottles of wine for their own use. The owner's family occupies a separate unit in the farmhouse building. The family cares for the garden and provides homemade baked pastries as part of the welcome extended to new guests, or in celebration of special events.

it exceeded our expectation. Claudia and Rudy were the perfect host, made use feel like family right from the start. invited us to partake in making and cooking real Italian brick oven pizza, which was fabulous and their wine was by far the best we had ever had. We were also invited to a homemade Ragu family dinner, where we shared much laughter and recipes. For my husband and myself we felt it was the experience of a life time and we hope to visit them again soon.

The lighting in the apartment was minimal; kitchen utensils and pots and pans were minimal.
Surrounding Area:
Easy access by car to many lovely mountain towns.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ask Claudia to recommend the best restaurant nearby. Bring a good book -the evenings are quiet.
Directions were good.
Check In Out:
Claudia and Rudy were very pleasant and made everything easy. We were welcomed into their kitchen for a meal with the family on our first night, which was wonderful because it was late and we were hungry. Best to arrive in the daylight, kinda spooky in the dark.
