- About The Experience
-
This elegant accommodation in Rome is located in the heart of the city, between the Piazza Navona and the Tiber River. In the early 16th century, cardinals, ambassadors, papal officials, wealthy bankers and distinguished courtesans occupied the handsome palaces in the area around this apartment in Rome, Italy, many of which can be seen today. As you walk home from your daily expeditions out and about the city, you can imagine the area filled with the booksellers, engravers and artisans of the past. In fact, there are still numerous craftsmen to be found in the area.
- Location Description
-
This apartment is situated on Via di Parione in the Navona zone, which was once part of ancient Rome. It is about two blocks from the Piazza Navona, and within walking distance of the Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the Pantheon, and many other central Rome attractions. Except for the outline of Domitian's Stadium which is preserved in the shape of Piazza Navona, no traces of ancient Rome have survived here. Today the area is filled with 15th and 16th century palaces, whose somewhat plain facades conceal fine examples of Renaissance architecture. Public transportation: The apartment is a 10-minutes walk from the underground station, “Spagna”, and it is well served by the ATAC bus lines 70, 81, 87, 186, 204, 492, 628 and by the electric bus lines 116 and 116T.
Nearby Attractions: A monument to Roman Baroque style, the Piazza di Spagna is one of the best people-watching spots in Rome. Around the piazza are several very well-known tea rooms including the famous Babington’s English Tea Room and the Café Greco. The house where English poets John Keats and Lord Byron lived and died, is on the right hand corner, as one begins to climb the 138 steps. This is an ideal neighborhood for shopping (or window shopping) at famous boutiques such as Prada, Valentino, and Gucci (Via dei Condotti).

Customer Reviews
Overall:
Wow, what a fantastic location. The apartment was roomy and very well appointed. We felt very spoiled.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was terrific, the quite daytime lane/way became a busy nighttime area and yet once inside the apartment you had complete peace and quiet.
Enjoyed Least:
The air conditioner in the bedroom leaked quite profusely and so we were unable to use it. However by using the air conditioner in the lounge room and the fan in the bedroom we managed the August heat quite well.
Surrounding Area:
The area around us was lively, plenty of restaurants to choose from, and most of the sights of Rome could be reached from here on foot. We walked to the Colesseum, the Vatican, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon and the Trevi fountain all with ease.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Not applicable as we were right in the middle of one of the most fascinating cities in the world.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you are travelling to Rome in August make sure you pack lightweight clothing and shorts that cover your knees for entry into any of the churches. We had breakfast most mornings at Vivi Bistrot which is in the Palazzo Braschi which houses the Museum of Rome; it is closed on Mondays but offers a great healthy option for the rest of the week. All while having a great view of Piazza Navona waking up in the mornings.
Directions:
Once nce we found the actual address the directions to the property were fine; we took a taxi and were dropped just metres from the door. Danielo came to let us in and give us the keys was very helpful and pleasant to deal with. We did check in and out on a Sunday, which was unusual.
Check In Out:
Once we were sorted with checking in all went very smoothly. It did create a little bit of angst when we had initial trouble with contacting anyone, as it was a Sunday. We waited in the restaurant diagonally opposite while waiting to hear back from all the messages we had left and enjoyed a good meal at the same time. Serafini alla Pace.

Overall:
Excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
Spacious, clean, quiet. Cortona was a delightful surprise. I expected it to be very rustic but it was quite nice.
Enjoyed Least:
Quite a climb to reach our villa! 566 steps from the parking area with a 23' incline. Just an FYI to anyone with knee or hip problems.
Surrounding Area:
Easy to reach surrounding cities. We visited Arrezzo, Assisi, Florence and Siena.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a bag of Starbucks if you love your AM coffee! Nice coffee pot in well-equipped kitchen.
We loved every restaurant in Cortona that we dined in: La Cacciatorie, Bistrot Cortona, Teatre, Bistro Toscana on Nationale.
Directions:
We had a Garmin with the chip for Europe. It was excellent to visualize some of the hairpin turns around the countryside.
Check In Out:
Next time we will request help with luggage at check out. Would have been lovely to load up the car and drive down to the parking lot (this was done at check in).

Overall:
Overall we were very pleased with the property. It was even better than I expected, especially the location. We were definitely right in the heart of everything.
The apartment was comfortable, clean and charming. The way you would expect an upscale Rome apartment to be. It was fully equipped with all the kitchen utensils you would need as well as iron, board, hairdryer, etc.
Enjoyed Most:
I loved just walking out the door and having everything, restaurants, coffee shops, stores, markets within steps. We loved the night life in the Piazza.
Surrounding Area:
There was lots of activity and it gave you the feeling of being immersed in the local color of Rome.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in the heart of Rome and that was all we cared about. We did enjoy walking and found many things to see.
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved the waiter at the restaurant that was right out our front door.
Directions:
We did a transfer service from the airport which worked out great.
Check In Out:
Everything went extremely well.
Bonnie, August
