About The Experience
A combination of a traditional Greek villa and its underground wine cellar, this Santorini villa for rent offers an authentic taste of island life at its best. Perfect for two families or a group of friends, this accommodation in Santorini has outdoor terraces with panoramic views and a small, refreshing pool. Just step outside your own private courtyard at this Santorini villa for rent and you'll find a path leading to a traditional village famous for its unique wine. Looking for a little more excitement? Go into Fira and see the sights. Santorini is an island, after all, so everything you desire is easily found.
Location Description

A winding footpath leads from this villa to Megalochori, a quiet, traditional village on an eastward-facing slope. This village is the center of the island's wine production industry, so it's a great area to be if you like to go tasting. The main square is host to a couple of tavernas for eating out in local style. It is about 10 km away from Fira, the cliff-side town looking into the heart of the Caldera. One of Greece's most popular islands, Santorini has a fascinating geological history, as it is of volcanic origin. Throughout recorded history, parts of the island have dropped into the sea, while new islands have suddenly appeared off the coast! The island forms a crescent around the Caldera, or cauldron-- the collapsed center of the volcano. It is an enviable view! Fira is the capital of the island, host to the Archaeological Museum. Its main streets are filled with shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. That's right... Santorini is also famous for its thriving nightlife! Your choices for activities are almost endless... you can relax on red and black sand beaches, take a boat around the islands, hike around the cliffs, go shopping, or even take a ferry to other islands in the area.

Nearby Attractions: Towns and villages of Santorini, beaches, islands, churches, hiking, wine tasting, shopping. Nearby islands: Crete, Paros, Naxos.

Exterior Description
This Greek mansion was once owned by one of the most powerful families on the island. Originally, the first floor was inhabited by the family, while the lovely canava served as the winery and cellar. The Vinsanto produced here was exported to Russia, where it was used by the Orthodox Church for holy communion. Today the original structure has been restored to its original splendor, retaining the original layout while taking advantage of the canava for more living space. Outside there are various terraces and also a private swimming pool (5m x 6m).
Interior Description

This traditional mansion has been divided into two spacious, self-contained units, rented together with a pool. The first floor residence is furnished in traditional Greek decor, while the cabana beneath is more modern and stylish with its rounded edges and unique cave-like atmosphere. The entrance of the villa leads into a large cobbled courtyard, complete with a small pool. A stone stairway leads to the first floor, where there are large terraces and panoramic views of the village.

First Floor: A traditional, well-equipped kitchen (stove, coffee maker, electric barbecue) leads into a large dining room (seats six) with original wooden floors and vaulted ceiling, perfect for entertaining. There is also a comfortable lounge. The spacious suite has a 180 cm king-size bed and air conditioning. There is a bathroom with a sink, toilet, and open shower.
Second Floor: A staircase leads up to a private landing and a fifth bedroom with a 180 cm king-size bed that can be split into to twin beds and a shower room

Canava (Ground): Carved into the rock face, this former wine cellar provides a cool, relaxing haven during hot summer days. Three large barn-style doors lead from the cobbled courtyard into the various living areas. The traditional kitchen (stove, coffee maker, electric barbecue) leads into a beautifully lit dining room with seating for ten. There are 3 bedrooms. Bedroom 1 has a king size bed 180 x 200 ; Bedroom 2 has a French (¾) bed.The comfortable lounge opens into an extravagant bathroom with a built-in Jacuzzi (with handheld shower-head), a seating area, and large mirror. Please note that these two bedrooms do not have doors: they are open to the sitting area. Outside, by the pool, there is a third bedroom with a queen size bed 160 x 200 and an open shower room.

Villa VinSanto was the perfect stay for our family of 9 in Santorini. The property had a "wow" factor which was unexpected. Upon entering the property we were met with a beautiful outdoor pool and outdoor space. The kitchen was well stocked with delicious fruit, yoghurt, eggs, bread coffee etc. to meet our needs for breakfast in the morning.
Enjoyed Most:
The property manager Nasia was fantastic. She was an unexpected bonus. Nasia met us at the property, arranged transportation and activities for us during our stay. She was professional yet friendly, informative and genuinely concerned with providing us with the best experience possible.
Enjoyed Least:
Honestly, the experience was wonderful. I have no negatives to report.
Surrounding Area:
Megalohori is a charming town. We wish we had more time to explore the town. Santorini has more to offer than meets the eye. We would have loved to spend another couple of days on the island.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Megalohori - yes it was within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Be sure to bring comfortable shoes for walking/hiking from Fira to Oia. The views are spectacular and this hike should not be missed.
No comment as we had a driver pick us up at the airport and drive us to the property.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out were both very easy. We had a driver pick us up at the airport, arranged by Nasia. The driver brought us to the property and a porter handled our luggage for us. Couldn't have been easier!

Villa Vinsanto was lovely! Behind large wooden doors on a pedestrian street in an adorable Santorini village is a comfortable vacation oasis! From the moment we arrived and were greated by Kosta to the moment we left, it felt like our home away from home. The rooms were comfortable and well-appointed. The cave rooms were always a lovely cool temperature and the two other bedrooms had air-conditioning - although given the cool evenings and amazing sea breezes, it was really not necessary. The pool was the perfect size to relax in and enjoy the peace and quiet. The amenities of the village added to the convenience of the villa. A few restaurants, shops and wineries to visit.
Enjoyed Most:
The privacy, the pool and the off-the-beaten track location. Also loved the view of the village from the roof. We were there for a full moon - so the sky was beautiful!
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchens were minimalist - which was fine for what we needed, but if you are looking to prepare most of your meals there, might be limiting.
Surrounding Area:
Loved the fishing village (Vlychada), the vineyards and the proximity to most destinations (Kamali, Perissa, Fira). The town of Megalachori itself was also adorable and fun to walk around at different times of day to see how the sun reflected off the buildings.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Megalachori is right down the hill and there is a bakery right up the hill. The vast majority of what you will need is within walking distance of the villa. With your walking shoes on and a bottle of water, you can also walk to the beach at Vlychada or Eros (3-5 kilometres).
Tips or Restaurants:
GREAT SEAFOOD RESTAURANT To Psaraki on the bluff of the fishing village was fantastic! Wonderful place to see the boats come in and to watch the sunset. The seafood there was amazingly fresh and everything we tried (which was A LOT) was delicious. I would definitely rent a car if you are staying in Megalachori - it is a great location, driving is easy, but not sure I would want to rely on buses.
We called the property manager and he met us at the Fira bus station. From there we followed him in the car. It was not a problem at all
Check In Out:
Kosta made everything easy. No improvement necessary.

Allison, July

We had a wonderful time, and the owner and staff of the villa were very helpful and attentive. They made us feel at home and welcome.
Enjoyed Most:
The high-level of interior design. This was by far the most "expensive looking" rental we have ever stayed in, and we constantly felt like we were in a 5-star resort. The daily maid service was much welcomed, and we were very thankful that a car rental was taken care of prior to our arrival and waiting for us.
Enjoyed Least:
We couldn't figure out if you could plug the drain in the bathroom in the upstairs unit.
Surrounding Area:
The village we stayed in was absolutely beautiful. The owners of the villa also own a restaurant at the end of the road, and we were often down there eating and visiting with the other employees. Because they all worked together, if something was wrong with the house, we could just tell anybody down there and they were always eager and willing to help.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We stayed in a small town, Megalochori. Picture perfect!
Tips or Restaurants:
This villa came fully stocked, so in the end we didn't need to bring the majority of the kitchen supplies that recommended in their orientation packet.
The owner arranged for pick-up to and from the port, so they took all the worry out of arrival.
