About The Experience
This elegant Lake Como villa is right on the lake and has unbeatable views from the upstairs. There is a public walkway that runs in front of the villa, but there are hedges that provide privacy. This is a great Italian Lakes villa for an extended family with children or for a group of friends. There are several bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a huge kitchen, and a play room for little ones. Adults will enjoy the large sunny terrace, while kids frolic in the pool or play at the beach next door. Whatever your group demographics, everyone staying at this villa on Lake Como will enjoy exploring the surrounding area-- one of the most beautiful natural areas in Italy.
Location Description

This lakefront villa is located ten kilometers north of Menaggio on the northwest shore of Lake Como, literally next door to a beach. Once a walled city, some remnants are still visible in Menaggio today. In the summer, it is a popular recreation area, with opportunities for windsurfing, water skiing, and other water-based activities. You could also rent a bicycle and explore the area or take a walk down the lakeside promenade, lined with flowers. Because of its central location, Menaggio is a great base for exploring the rest of the area. Drive down the lakeshore road to Tremezzo and Como, or hop on a ferry to visit Varenna or Bellagio. Known as "la perla del lago" (the pearl of the lake), Bellagio is considered by many to be the most beautiful town in Europe. Its narrow cobbled streets, breathtaking views, impeccable homes and glorious villas make it a most enchanting spot to explore. Como, located at the southernmost tip of the lake which bears its name, is perfect for a day's outing. Sights in Como include the Duomo, the austere church of San Abbondio, the Piazza S. Fedele (with many 400-year-old buildings), and the Basilica, one of the masterpieces of the "maestri comacini" (Como masters). Before leaving, be sure to take the funicular up to Brunate-- a small village with a spectacular view. While on Lake Como, you'll discover that the cuisine is based primarily on fish. Specialties include misultitt (fish desiccated in containers called misolte) and soused fish (fried and then pickled), along with more traditional dishes like rice with perch or smoked trout.

Nearby Attractions: Beach, Lake Como, Menaggio (windsurfing, water skiing, lakeside promenade), Tremezzo, Varenna, Bellagio (cobbled streets, villas), Como (Duomo, San Abbondio, Piazza S. Fedele, Basilica), Brunate.

Exterior Description
(2,500 m2) This lakefront villa is surrounded on the front and around one side by a large terra-cotta terrace (45m x 8m) and a lawn, equipped with an outdoor dining table and chairs where you can have meals. Around the side of the house is a swimming pool (8m x 5m; pool heating included from mid-May until mid-September; during other months heating of pool is an additional charge). Behind the house is a parking area for six cars; across the street from the parking area is a museum devoted to ancient watercraft, called La Raccolta della Barca Lariana. To the left of the house (on the side of the pool) is a small dock area, and to the right is a small public beach. A public path runs in front of the property between the front lawn and the water (with hedges for privacy), so this property should not be considered secluded; the most pedestrians come during July and August.

There is a handicap-equipped bathroom with shower on the ground floor. On request the owner can also arrange a handicap accessible bedroom on the ground floor.

Customer Reviews

Picturesque and comfortable setting, with the house being perfect for our large (10) group. Extensive walkway system along the lake was fabulous. Our highest commendation.
Enjoyed Most:
Bedrooms, dining room, kitchen and terrace were superb.
Enjoyed Least:
Not much to dislike!!
Surrounding Area:
Public walkways and trails local, walkable restaurants and such.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in Pianello del Lario and walked to restaurants, bodegas and such. Perfectly fine.
Tips or Restaurants:
Extremely well stocked and supplied with all needs. Just pay attention to the weather for what clothes to bring. La Baia and Spinnaker restaurants were very good!! We enjoyed them!!
This property is on Via Maron which is nothing more than a literal driveway. The first time there you are confused and shocked by the sheer vertical drop of this road. Some GPS systems don't recognize Via Maron. Google doesn't either.
Check In Out:
All was done well. No problems. Daniela Poncia was fabulous throughout our whole stay. Tremendous asset and support.

We and our extended family really enjoyed our stay at Villa Lariana. The property is large, airy, and comfortable. The staff (property manager, housekeeping, chef) is terrific.
Enjoyed Most:
There are lots of bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and air conditioner. The kitchen is commercial quality and huge--perfect for preparing meals for a large group. The heated pool (which can be completely covered in case of rain) offered welcome relief at the end of each day. The ping-pong table in the game room kept the kids occupied.
Enjoyed Least:
This villa is not in the best location. Pianello del Lario is a small town with little to see or do. The ferry only arrives twice each day--in the morning and afternoon. Bus service is hourly. Getting around was complicated without a car.
Surrounding Area:
DON'T MISS the Boat Museum (La Raccolta della Barca Lariana), which is no longer open to the public, but can be viewed by villa guests with the property manager. It's a spectacular record of the nautical history of the lake. We also enjoyed walking the length of the public lakefront walkway that passes in front of the villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
HIRE THE CHEF, at least once during your stay, for a fantastic multi-course dinner. She is talented, knowledgeable, and friendly, and she prepares mouth-watering dishes that are beautifully presented. For dining out, we loved the Veranda Beach Cafe, a lakefront restaurant within walking distance near the Pianello del Lario ferry landing.
Arrange to meet the property manager at an alternate location, then follow her to the villa.

Villa Lariana is a beautiful house.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa is beautiful. Very roomy, large kitchen that was once a restaurant, lovely caretaker Daniella who is extremely helpful and daily housekeeping. The house is lovely and gracious. Very sleepy town but the surrounding vista is stunning and the lack of tourist activity is a plus.
Surrounding Area:
Not too difficult to get to the towns nearby but requires a significant ferry or car journey. It is quite a distance down the lake from Como and has limited ferry access. There is a public walkway that is fairly busy, which limits the feeling of privacy. The owners have planted hedges to increase privacy but unfortunately that reduces the view of the lake!
Nearby Events or Locales:
The town is very tiny and has nothing to see. Nothing within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Daniella has some good restaurant suggestions; all require a boat or car journey.
Check In Out:
Daniella is excellent and made it very easy and welcoming.
