About The Experience
This Lake Como villa is actually an old fisherman's house, located right on the lake shore. With terraces outfitted for dining or lounging, this Lake Como accommodation allows you to enjoy wonderful views or enjoy the company of your traveling companions. And with Menaggio nearby, this vacation rental on Italy's Lake Como is an excellent base for exploring the Italian Lakes area.
Location Description

This villa is located on the outskirts of the picturesque lake resort of San Siro, on the northwest side of Lake Como. There is a pizzeria near the parking area for this villa, while basic shopping, services, a bus stop, and other restaurants are about 2 km away. On shore of the lake there are water sports facilities (boat rental, sailing, surfing), and a number of scenic trekking routes that begin at the lake. San Siro is a pretty, antique hamlet where you can still feel the atmosphere of the ancient past and view the beautiful castle with arcades dating back to the year 1000. Menaggio, to the south, offers more elegant shopping as well as sports facilities and a dock where you can catch boats and hydrofoils to other lake shore towns like Varenna, Bellagio, and Como.

Nearby Attractions: San Siro (pizzeria, shops, bus stop, restaurants, boat rental, sailing, surfing, hiking), Menaggio (shopping, sports facilities, ferries), Varenna, Bellagio, Como.

Exterior Description
(80 m2) Arriving at this villa, it will be necessary to park your car just outside of the village and walk about 250 meters to the villa along a pedestrian road. The path is cobbled with steps(approx. 200) that can be slippery when wet or icy; therefore this villa is not recommended for anyone with walking difficulties. Leave your high heels at home and bring a pair of good walking shoes! Arriving at the villa, you'll discover that it is situated right on the water with beautiful lake views from both the interior and the large terraces. Outside the villa there is a gated terrace-solarium with a barbecue and furniture for dining and lounging. Steep steps lead down to the edge of the water, where there is a narrow pebble beach that may occasionally be frequented by fishermen or walkers.

How authentically Italian it was.

We loved the little town of San Siro. It was so quaint and quiet and peaceful. And the two restaurants there were so wonderful!

Tips or Restaurants:
Don't spend too much time in Bellagio. There's so much more to see and do.

Just be sure you're prepared for all the stairs down to the property. Carrying luggage up and down was not easy.

Overall:
Our stay in this villa was everything I hoped it would be and more. Both the beautiful home and San Siro exceeded my expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa is historic, beautiful, serene, and is run by a fantastic manager. This was my second trip to Lake Como, and I can honestly say if you are looking for an authentic Italian lake experience, not overrun by tourists, booking a stay in Villa Amata will deliver. Skip Bellagio, noisy Tremezzo, and opt for something quiet and relaxing in remote San Siro where you can truly unplug.
Enjoyed Least:
Honestly, I have very little to complain about, it was a fantastic experience. The one thing I would mention, is that if you have an older family member or friend joining you on your trip, the stairs may be more than they can handle. Or not! )
Surrounding Area:
The town is beautiful and simple. Your car will drop you off at a CASTLE near the villa (how cool is that?!) and then there is a small market, and two restaurants in town--one more formal restoration hotel, and one pizza place. Both incredibly charming in different ways.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Siro is the nearest town, and you are right in the middle of it. I did not explore the neighboring town to the north, but my friends did. You can walk, but it's a bit of a journey. Thankfully, the property manager provided us with phone numbers for multiple local taxi cabs, and we were able to travel throughout the lake easily.
Tips or Restaurants:
The local pizza place was delicious. While I did not eat at the other restaurant, my friends did, and had a wonderful experience. Prices in San Siro were actually very good compared to other lake towns! So you don't need to worry about bringing many supplies.
Directions:
Connecting with the property manager was easy. We booked a private transfer from Milan airport. I recommend hiring a car service rather than opting for the train to save yourself some transit time.
Check In Out:
No additional comments. I can't speak highly enough about the property manager Daniela. She made all of the logistics run so smoothly and was one of the best parts of staying at Villa Amata. I travel often, and she was one of the best managers I have ever interacted with.

Overall:
An unbelievable experience! The sensory experience was amazing. From the view, to the sound of the waves, to the wonderful breezes through the villa we loved it all.
Enjoyed Most:
The property was close to the water, in a beautiful little town. The property manager was anxious to make our stay as wonderful as possible. The villa was up to date and convenient, yet really maintained an old world feel.
Enjoyed Least:
The lower apartment was close to a public walkway, making it uncomfortable to leave windows and doors open at night.
Surrounding Area:
While the cobblestone steps and walks were really old and quaint, I can understand the warning to those who may have physical difficulties. It was quite a hike with suitcases, but well worth it.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Siro was easily walkable, but the trip to Menaggio was not. A car was a necessity, and the roads are NARROW!
Tips or Restaurants:
Villa Amata provided much more than I expected. The kitchen was stocked with some necessities, and we were easily able to prepare our own meals. Clean towels and light cleaning were provided twice during our week-long stay. In addition, there were beach towels, toilet paper, a beautiful basket of fruit, and two bottles of wine. The owner worked to make sure we had access to the internet as well. We felt very welcomed.
