About The Experience
Conveniently close to Cortona, this Tuscany apartment is an excellent choice for two couples traveling in Tuscany. Tuscany holidays include a lovely shared swimming pool and sprawling lawns, along with air conditioning and a dishwasher. Close proximity to Cortona, which is where the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun" starring Diane Lane takes place as well as the book it's based off of by Frances Mayes, means that this self-catering apartment in Tuscany is an excellent base for exploring not only Cortona, but also the lakeshore towns on Lago Trasimeno, Arezzo, and Perugia.
Location Description

This estate is located about 3.5 kilometers away from Cortona, an ancient Etruscan city that has perfectly preserved its historical charm. Cortona has grown to be one of Tuscany's primary cultural, historic, and artistic centers, having changed very little in the last 400 years or so. Sitting in the center of the triangle formed by Arezzo, Siena, and Perugia, as well as being near Lake Trasimeno and the Appenines, Cortona is both ideally located for day trips and a sparkling gem of the region. In Cortona there is no end to picturesque streets and amazing historic buildings. Tour frescoed churches from the 13th century; explore the original city walls; see and art exhibit in the 16th century fortress. You can also visit the local museums and libraries, tiptoe around ancient monasteries and tombs dating back to the second century B.C. Dine on the best Tuscan dishes as you look out on an historic palazzo or drive out to one of the villas dotting the countryside. As for shopping, you'll find local handicrafts, antiques, and of course local wines and olive oils that simply outdo anything you've ever tasted!

Nearby Attractions: Cortona (historic buildings, frescoed churches, city walls, art exhibits, 16th century fortress, museums, libraries, monasteries, tombs, restaurants, shops), Lake Trasimeno (water-based activities), Arezzo, Perugia, Assisi, Siena, Florence.

Customer Reviews

We had a great time. Vanessa was marvelous and always very sweet and helpful. We felt very cozy in our unit. It was located centrally to most of Tuscany, and Umbria and it was easy for us to do day trips from there to some wonderful places, as well as Cortona.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was great and cozy and warm. Like being home. The grounds and swimming pool were beautiful, the place was clean and well maintained. Thanks for instantly replacing the coffee maker. The view of Cortona out of the back windows was terrific. Vanessa made every thing easier and she was wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
Although the kittens on site were cute, since we are very allergic to cats, we had to also keep the door closed. It would have been better if there were a few more kitchen items. Limited items like wine glasses, teaspoons etc. We had difficulty finding what was what on the TV and once in a while found English speaking channels, but couldn't seem to get back to them each time.
Surrounding Area:
It was beautiful. All the agriculture in the area was amazing. Of course the access to wonderful food and wine in Tuscany and Umbria was awesome.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Camucia which is just a mile from Cortona. Neither would be reasonably within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
It is necessary to have a car unless you want to cab every day to Cortona. Bring mosquito repellent, as the country setting is full of them. There is a washing machine, but no dryer.
We had a GPS.
Check In Out:
Check in and Check out went smoothly because of Vanessa (she was great!!!)

The overall experience was very good to excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
Great property with large, well-maintained swimming pool.
Enjoyed Least:
The umbrella in the area set aside for our seating was broken.
Surrounding Area:
Close proximity to Cortona and beautiful views of the countryside.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Cortona is about 5 miles and Faiano is two miles.
Tips or Restaurants:
Renters should bring beach towels for pool and bug spray. Excellent restaurant found in Cortona is called Preludio, excellent food and service and reasonable price.
Check In Out:
When we arrived we had to make several calls to find the office assistant.

Exceptional. The manager was great! We enjoyed the property and the other guests immensely.
Enjoyed Most:
Our view of Cortona and the pool was great.
Enjoyed Least:
Can't think of anything.
Surrounding Area:
The towns of Cortona and Camucia. The countryside was beautiful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Camucia was within a good walking distance, but most would use a bicycle or car to get there.
Tips or Restaurants:
In all of Italy, they seem to be short of change. People should carry small bills and change, because they will ask if you have exact change. Some restaurants will only accept cash. Be sure to check. Driving in Italian large cities is to be discouraged. The Italians are very tolerant of other drivers and don't seemed to mind if you make a small mistake. Do not drive aggressively. Driving on the autostrada freeways and in the country is a breeze with not too much traffic in May. In the summer months, it will be different. The list of things to bring provided by RentVillas was good.
The directions was good but the sign was small and we passed it. Previous comment about the silos helped locate the place.
Check In Out:
Loved the manager/owner, Fredrica! She was more than helpful and it was always nice to hear her cheerful greeting when she was there twice a day.

Fred, May
