Enjoyed the villa and its location in the small town very much.
Enjoyed Most:
View and location.
Enjoyed Least:
Small kitchen.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful scenery and structures.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Tavernelle in Val di Pesa was walking distance away.
Tips or Restaurants:
Several good restaurants and pizzerias in Tavernelle, just ask a native.
Location of the parking area, if you have a car, is a short distance away from the villa. You have to call and arrange for someone to open the gate and get the keys to the property and gate.
Check In Out:
Just call and someone will meet you shortly.

Great experience overall. Hard to find in the dark, but several calls to Cecile, the ever-helpful property manager, enabled us to navigate to the right spot. The apartment was clean, comfortable and welcoming. The setting is charming, and we particularly enjoyed the little grocery store just a few steps away, where the kind proprietor helped us get cheese, bread, wine and other delectables, then threw in some delicious cookies gratis. Having a wonderful restaurant just another few more steps away made that first night's stay so convenient for us. We would go back there in a heartbeat.
Enjoyed Most:
Even though we were in the middle of the old village section of Barberino Val d'Elsa, we found it to be remarkable private and quiet. The location was perfect for the many day trips we took to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and the Chianti wine region.
Enjoyed Least:
We did not expect just a toaster over, and had brought ingredients to cook a traditional Christmas cake and some cinnamon rolls, but we managed to improvise. Too bad my wife did not realize the temperature readings on the oven were in Centigrade the first time she tried to cook. And next time we'll know not to run the dishwasher the same time as the toaster oven. I speak a little Italian, but trying to describe a power failure over the phone to Cecile was a stretch. Fortunately she came over quickly and showed us where to reset the main breaker.
Surrounding Area:
The rolling country side was beautiful, even in the late fall with all the grape and olive harvests complete. Some mornings the fog ensconced the hilltop towns in the neighborhood, adding an extra dimension of mysteriousness to the antiquity.
Nearby Events or Locales:
As I mentioned above, we were in the center of the old section of Barberino Val d'Elsa and within walking distance of a small grocery store and good restaurant, and not far from the town library, where we went to access WiFi. A washer at the other apartments was also within walking distance, if you didn't mind carrying a load of wet close up a steep hill on the return. No dryer, and if you can't get your clothes to dry in the apartment; there is a coin-operated laundry not too far from the library (driving recommended).
Tips or Restaurants:
We found the Italian version of Costco in Poggibonsi (Coop), 2nd Poggibonsi exit driving south to Siena, follow white arrows, and had a blast stocking up on all kinds of wonderful delicacies for dinner in the apartment, plus a few necessities we'd forgotten to bring.
Used a GPS, but it could not handle the narrow streets and tight turns through the old part of town to get us to the apartment, and kept landing us at the wrong place. We ended up calling Cecile, who navigated us back to the rental office, then followed her to the apartment.
Check In Out:
Cecile is wonderful. Could not ask for a better person or a better process.

Overall, it was a very good experience. We really enjoyed Cecil, our Property Manager. She was always eager to answer our questions and to be helpful. She made phone calls for us and let us use her computer for emails. And a bonus: she speaks French, which is also my first language
Enjoyed Most:
I really liked the proximity to places we wanted to visit, like Siena, Florence, and San Gimignano.
Enjoyed Least:
The property was perfect. There are gorgeous gardens and a very clean pool. However, we rented the apartment in the center of the village of San Barberino. We had a little table to eat outside on the balcony, but it was not big enough for the four of us to sit down.
Surrounding Area:
Walking distance to 2 great restaurants, grocery stores, and coffee bars. Very quiet, charming town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Tavarnelle. It's about 2 kilometres on a paved trail on the side of the road.
Tips or Restaurants:
If coming with small children, stay on the property itself--not the 2 apartments in town. We had to walk to the pool on a street before entering the property.
We didn't use a GPS. We rented a car in Florence and it took us less than 4o minutes to get to Barberino Val D'Elsa. We used directions from the rental car agency.
