About The Experience

Located in the heart of the Chianti, this farmhouse is situated on a beautiful and renowned wine estate that offers more than the typical Tuscan experience. Not only are there panoramic views of the rolling hills covered with vineyards and olive groves, but there is also the perk of being able to taste wine produced right on the estate. Throughout your stay you will be welcomed by an extremely helpful staff at the reception who can assist you or make recommendations for activities during your trip to Italy.

Location Description

The property is located five kilometers from Castellina in Chianti where there are a good number of shops, restaurants, and markets as well as a pharmacy, post office, and tourist information center. Known for its great wines, Castellina in Chianti is a medieval village that was once on the front lines of the wars between Florence and Siena. Today, the old fort in the central square is home to the municipal offices, and the covered gallery has become the magnificent Via delle Volte. Other sights in town include the Castello (which exhibits Etruscan artifacts), the 16th century church of San Salvatore, and its 14th century fresco of the Madonna by Bicci di Lorenzo. Of course you’ll also want to organize a few day trips to some of the other great cities in the area, including Siena, San Gimignano, and Florence.

Customer Reviews

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were happy with the villa. The location was awesome. We traveled throughout Tuscany and found the villa to be centrally located making travel easy. It was nice to return home each day.
Enjoyed Most:
Location. It was spectacular. Also the villa had all the amenities our travel group of six adults needed.
Enjoyed Least:
Outside grounds need work. The removal of some scrub trees would have provided a much better view. The washing machine was difficult to operate and didn't always cooperate. Instructions in English would have helped.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the hill towns and wineries. Views were breathtaking.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti was the closet town but it was not walkable.
Tips or Restaurants:
We visited during September and found that period to be very comfortable.
Check In Out:
Both the check in and check out went smoothly. One additional comment. On our last day, we purchased a bottle of wine at the winery and received a good discount. Had we known that at check in, we would have purchased more. It was good wine.

We were two couples and two adult singles. We booked this villa because our group was originally ten, but ended up as only six. As a result, the house was much larger than we needed. In nearly all respects, it far exceeded our expectations! The photos do not do it justice. The views are stunning, the pool fabulous, the bedrooms large and comfortable, the bathrooms well appointed.
Enjoyed Most:
It wasn't clear to us from the online description that this villa is located in the middle of a vast wine estate. We were delighted by the location and the winery. I'm not sure we could name one thing we liked most. In our two-week stay, we spent almost as much time relaxing at the villa as we did touring the area. The patio was our gathering place we started there with coffee in the morning and reconvened in the evening over wine. The patio and the pool were the most popular spots. I should also mention that we received excellent service from everyone involved with the property. When the toaster didn't work on our arrival, it was replaced the next day. When the power went out one evening after a thunderstorm, a repair team arrived within 20 minutes of our call. From check-in to check-out, pool cleaning, and daily housekeeping, we couldn't have been better looked after.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was small compared to the rest of the house. We found everything we needed to prepare meals, but should have asked for instructions for starting the stove, as it gave us ongoing challenges. Based on previous reviews, we brought a few small sharp knives, which came in handy. The lighting in the bedrooms and bathrooms is VERY dim. We literally needed a flashlight to find things in the closet.
Surrounding Area:
We loved Castellina in Chianti! It's small and quiet there are some tourists but it's not nearly as crowded as other hill towns. We enjoyed shopping in the local market and wandering around town. The villa is well located for visiting Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, and other hill towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti is the nearest town, about 5 km, and it is not walkable. The road from the highway to the house is very rough. The main road is narrow and winding and not good for walking.
Tips or Restaurants:
The weather was fantastic during our stay and we loved throwing the windows wide open in the morning, but the mosquitos were aggressive so we were forced to close up at night and turn on the air conditioners (there is one in each bedroom). Small flashlights were helpful in the dim bedrooms. We ate in several restaurants in town our best meal was at Taverna Squarcialupi. Make a reservation for a table on the patio. The food and the service are wonderful! We bought groceries at the Coop in town, which is well stocked and very inexpensive. And the local gelato is fantastic.
Use GPS coordinates! The check-in is at the wine shop for Lilliano winery. We had trouble finding the check-in point because the directions say to "look for the sign" but don't say to "turn at the sign." But our friends who plugged in the longitude and latitude drove right to the winery.
Check In Out:
The process was easy, even though we arrived later than expected. The team at Lilliano made us feel welcome and got our visit off to a great start. Check out couldn't have been easier; the manager came to the property to settle up the deposit and tell us where to leave the keys.
