About The Experience

Located in the heart of the Chianti, this farmhouse is situated on a beautiful and renowned wine estate that offers more than the typical Tuscan experience. Not only are there panoramic views of the rolling hills covered with vineyards and olive groves, but there is also the perk of being able to taste wine produced right on the estate. Throughout your stay you will be welcomed by an extremely helpful staff at the reception who can assist you or make recommendations for activities during your trip to Italy.

Location Description

The property is located five kilometers from Castellina in Chianti where there are a good number of shops, restaurants, and markets as well as a pharmacy, post office, and tourist information center. Known for its great wines, Castellina in Chianti is a medieval village that was once on the front lines of the wars between Florence and Siena. Today, the old fort in the central square is home to the municipal offices, and the covered gallery has become the magnificent Via delle Volte. Other sights in town include the Castello (which exhibits Etruscan artifacts), the 16th century church of San Salvatore, and its 14th century fresco of the Madonna by Bicci di Lorenzo. Of course you’ll also want to organize a few day trips to some of the other great cities in the area, including Siena, San Gimignano, and Florence.

Nearby Attractions: Castellina in Chianti (old fort, Via delle Volte, Castello, church of San Salvatore, shops, restaurants, markets, wine tasting), Greve in Chianti, Siena, San Gimignano, Arezzo, Florence.

Customer Reviews

We had a wonderful time at Villa Adelina. The rooms were large and we thought it was great that everyone had their own bathroom. I don't know how it compares to other villas in the area, but it had a lot of charm and was very comfortable.
Enjoyed Most:
We found it amazing that something 400 years old could be functional without losing its authenticity. We didn't get to use the pool, but it was lovely.
Surrounding Area:
So many little villages were in the surrounding area that we could travel to. Even seeing two in a day's time. The wine was outstanding and the shopping great.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I don't remember the name of the nearest town, but we could not walk there.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa had everything we needed, even hair dryers in the bathrooms. There is a clothes washer but not a dryer. There were two clothes drying racks that were sufficient.
I didn't do any of the driving and can't answer this question.

We were there for four weeks, with a different group of 8 to 10 more guests coming each week. They are all from the USA and all loved it. It was a bit rustic, but for a 400 year old villa, it was great. No complaints. The Villa is central to the hill towns of Tuscany, and each week we went visiting and wine tasting. Chef Dora came twice per week--which was the extra special time. The quaint rural setting was just what we wanted. The pool was beautiful, but too early for swimming-great for wine party to watch the sunset.
Enjoyed Most:
Central location---rural quiet in the middle of the vineyards and hill towns. Large enough for a group of 10 to 12 to be together but get away to read. It was rustic, but for the setting we wanted, it was perfect
Enjoyed Least:
The things that could have been nicer, would have detracted from the quaintness. So we will take the "cackle of the morning pheasant", the gravel driveway to get off the busy road, and just say we liked it all. Even the "tight turn to get in the driveway" that became a challenge late in the dark---was just a part of the quaint and wonderful experience. It is a 400 year old farmhouse--not a modern timeshare..
Surrounding Area:
Short---about 30 minute drive to Radda in Chianti, San Gimignano, Sienna and about five minutes form Castellina in Chianti and not that far from Florence for our weekly 6-hour walking tour.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We thought Castellina in Chianti would be within walking distance--about 7 Km. We could see Castellina from our Villa on a hill in the distance. However the roads were narrow and hilly and not safe to walk on. We drove everywhere if we left the Villa property. However we got plenty of exercise when we went to the hill towns for a viist.
Tips or Restaurants:
Radda, Greve, Castellina, Sienna, San Giginamo, and Florence provided everything. Cinque Terra was nice but not needed, the Quarry at Cararra was special and a 30 minute visit to Pisa needs to be on everyone's list.
We had three GPS and they didn't agree with each other. After the first three days we only used the GPS in the towns and relied on good surface maps and major "blue and green" city signs to keep heading in the right direction. The GPS was essential to get to our check in, but that did not get us to the villa.
Check In Out:
There was some confusion on what is actually needed , what the extra fees are, and what some things cost. Since we were there four weeks, we got to know the managers and we had a great time. In the end it all worked out.

This was our second time at the property.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, serenity, pool, house...
Enjoyed Least:
Arrived Saturday, but couldn't get A/C issues resolved until Monday or Tuesday.
Surrounding Area:
Ability to visit hill towns in Tuscany and tasting, food...what's not to like?
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in' a short drive.
Check In Out:
The folks at check in were very accommodating, but do not speak knowing a bit of Italian helps getting schooled on the ins and outs at the house.
