About The Experience
On a large estate surrounded by olive groves and flower fields, this Italian villa is just the place if you and your family are looking for beauty and tranquility. Whether its sunrises in the morning, sunsets in the evening, or midday gazing, you’ll have views that will take your breath away while at this Tuscany villa. It also has a wonderful location close to town where you’ll find plenty of things to keep you busy while spending the holidays in Italy.
Location Description

The farmhouse is located three kilometers from Monticchiello, where you'll find shops, restaurants, and a market. Monticchiello still has its original city walls, towers, and castle, while the main site is the 13th century gothic church, which contains a beautiful altarpiece. Each summer, the locals put on plays that they themselves have wrote with three acts. The first act takes place in the past, the second act takes place in the present, and the third act takes place in the future. If you're looking for a town a little bigger, Pienza is about a 15-minute drive away. In addition to shops and restaurants, there are markets, banks, a pharmacy, post office, and gas station, visit Pienza. The history of Pienza (or Citta di Pio) is closely linked to Pope Pius II, known as the great humanist. In 1458 he transformed this ancient town (his birthplace) into a perfect example of architectural and urban design. Judging by the attention this gorgeous town still gets today, his ambitious project was a success, attracting visitors from all over the world. The main sites include the Palazzo Piccolomini and the Duomo. Great day trips through the region are to the hilltop town of Cortona or the culturally rich city of Siena.

Customer Reviews

We had a fabulous time and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa and area was picturesque and peaceful. The property manager was very helpful. It was everything we expected and more.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen is small but that is normal for a villa of this age. I feel we had a true Tuscan villa experience.
Surrounding Area:
What's not to enjoy. The surrounding area was beautiful, the towns gorgeous and the history magnificent. The people are very friendly and sun sets are breathtaking.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monticchiello was the nearest small town but not within walking distance. However, we purposely chose a villa out in the country.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you are renting a car, be sure to get a GPS. We rented the first week of May so the evenings were cool but during the day it reached the mid to upper 60's so if you plan on being out after the sun goes down, make sure you bring a sweater andor jacket. Every restaurant we went to had fabulous food.
I'm not sure how to improve on the directions. We did need to use a GPS and the longitude/latitude coordinates got us to the villa.
Check In Out:
Our flight arrived late in Florence, we rented a car and arrived early evening at the villa; they had no complaints at our arrival time. Both check in and check out went smoothly.

Susan, May

Very good.
Enjoyed Most:
Peace and quiet, and the views. Gianmario was excellent, very helpful and considerate, and came in minutes when we had a problem locking the doors.
Enjoyed Least:
Road to the property, door locks! Kitchen was poorly equipped, lacked counter space, too few dishes - good dishwasher, though!
Surrounding Area:
We loved all the towns around the property, and once used to the driving, loved being close to Montepulciano, Pienza, Monalcino, Cortona and even found Volterra and Gimignano within reach--as well as Firenze and Siena. Sinalunga had good shopping.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montichiello. Not walkable - 5kms, up and down hills, narrow roads.
Tips or Restaurants:
La Porta in Montichiello was excellent - we were there 4 times in 2 weeks - 3 for dinner. Need reservations. Bring a good map to help your GPS! Extra toilet paper, paper towels, and a computer to watch movies on, since there is no TV except news. Wifi is OK but slow. 3 - 4 hours to download a movie.
We had a Garmin, and purchased a map of Italy/Greece (at Rick Steves recommendation). Would not recommend using it inside Florence to find parking - it is hopeless. We parked at a shopping centre (Coop-Wi) for free and caught tram (T1) right there for 1 euro and a 15 minute ride to the train station.
Check In Out:
Only finding the property after flying all night and driving 2 hours from Rome. By the way, advise everyone to be at LDV airport at least 3 hours before if returning a car, and if you have lots of luggage, be prepared to load it on buses and carts more than once. Italian efficiency is truly an oxymoron at this place!
