Location Description

The apartment is situated in a prime location in the center of the medieval hilltop town of San Gimignano, which dates back to the 10th century. San Gimignano is one of the most visited towns in Tuscany and is full of life and things to do. You are steps away from the famous towers, the 12th century Duomo, the People's Palace, and museums dedicated to artwork and archeology. There are also plenty of wine tasting tours, art galleries, shops, and wonderful restaurants. Numerous celebrations and gatherings are held every year including a music festival featuring theater, ballet, and opera performances, and a Medieval Harvest festival where the people of San Gimignano dress up as knights and play medieval games and have tournaments. If you’d like to explore bigger cities in Italy, a local bus can take you to the town of Poggibonsi where there is a train station that can connect you to destinations like Siena, Florence, or Pisa. Cars are not allowed in the historical center of San Gimignano, but it is possible to ask for special permission in order to reach the house and carry luggage. There is public parking outside of the walls.

Customer Reviews

The room had a feeling of gracious elegance, dark wood furnishings, wardrobe, end tables and bureau. It was very spacious, comfortable, and convenient.
Enjoyed Most:
Our entrance and windows faced the garden courtyard/parking area, and it was very quiet and private. We could come and go as we pleased.
Enjoyed Least:
Our only quibble was that the lighting in the living room and bedroom was particularly dim because of energy efficient bulbs, and because the rooms were so large the few fixtures that there were made it very difficult to read. We ended up moving the living room floor lamp into the bedroom at night so we could read.
Surrounding Area:
San Gimignano is a UNESCO heritage site that is well-preserved and it is wonderful exploring the old city. There were more top class restaurants than we had time to enjoy fully - and we didn't have a bad meal. We took a couple of day trips driving to other small towns in Tuscany, and SG was a convenient base.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The property was incorporated into the old city wall, so it was less than a block from our door to the city gate,
Tips or Restaurants:
Cum Quibus has a Michelin star and 3 levels of tasting menus with paired wine optional. For gelato try Dandoni in Piazza Cisterna, or have a spritz in one of the piazza's sidewalk cafes.
The directions we were given were from Florence to San Gimignano, but we were coming from a stay in Siena. We couldn't use the Home Away app because we didn't have a smart phone with us, so had to rely on GPS, but that was problematic because of pedestrian and local resident traffic driving restrictions. Our host finally had to talk us in over our cell phone. Many thanks to him!

the apartment was as advertised and quite comfortable for our needs. It is well situated on the edge of the wall to make parking more convenient and only a couple minute walk to the heart of the town.
Enjoyed Most:
San Gimignano itself is an absolute gem and we are very pleased that we chose it as our destination in Tuscany.
Enjoyed Least:
While the bed and bedding were comfortable enough, everything smelled musty. The Internet reception was intermittent, which was a problem for us.
The phone number provided to call upon arrival at the airport was their office number, which of course isn’t manned on a Sunday when we arrived. The owner provided his cell phone number upon arrival.
