About The Experience

This villa overlooks the Tuscan countryside and offers beautiful views, particularly from the rooftop terrace. It’s within walking distance of a small village with a grocery store, café, pizzeria, and gas station. Best of all, it is a short bus ride (5-minute walk to the bus stop) to both Florence and Fiesole!

Location Description
The villa is located 100 meters from a restaurant and 200 meters from the village of La Lastra where there is a grocery store, café, post office, and gas station. The charming town of Fiesole is 3km away, and Florence, the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, is only 4km away. See the Duomo, the Academy Gallery, and Palazzo Vecchio firsthand, then go shopping in one of the open-air or flea markets filled with antiques and other goods. For more high-end shopping, be sure to visit Via dei Tornabuoni. Don’t forget to marvel at the statue of Davide or tour the wonders of the Uffizi Gallery either! A train station in Florence can connect you to other Tuscan cities, such as Siena or Pisa, which also prove to be convenient and enjoyable day trips away from your villa.

Customer Reviews

Overall:
Without a doubt this was the greatest vacation I've ever had. The villa was a "dream come true." I love buildings with a feeling of history and Le Terrazze wrapped you in its history.
Enjoyed Most:
The best thing about the villa was its roominess. With the high ceilings and large rooms I never felt crowded no many how many of us were there at any given time. We had our choice of places to sit down and eat. Breakfast was usually outside the kitchen beside the laundry cottage. Lunch down at Massimo's in La Lastra, take home or eat in, and dinner was either in the dining room or by the pool depending on the weather.
Enjoyed Least:
The soft furnishings were sort of worn, but with its being a rental property, I think it was to be expected. The kitchen was tiny, but certainly workable. There were plenty of dishes and cookware.
Surrounding Area:
The view was perfect. The Duomo was visible from the garden, the pool, the terrace outside the master bedroom. Out the other direction were other villas in Tuscan colors surrounded by olive groves and grape vines. LaLastra, though small, had everything you needed without being touristy. The bus stop was right there for visits into town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
LaLastra was not really a village as such, but more of an intersection where the old road to Bologna splits from the new road to Bologna. We were on the old road which had very little traffic. Walking downhill to the deli at Massimo's or the ticket place, LaLastra Bar, was easy. Less than five minutes. Uphill was not too difficult either if you took your time. Seven minutes uphill This usually happened about 230 in the afternoon when it was hot and Massimo's was closed until 500. With another 15 minutes on the 25 bus, you can walk downhill from stop Bolognese Vecchia 06. It stops right above the house.
Tips or Restaurants:
I had guests bring Ziploc baggies and a roll of toilet paper each. Another person was asked to bring baking powder which the customs people worried over long and hard before letting it through. I left it there for the next renters. As for restaurants I ate six times at Villa Rondini up the hill from the villa. The owner there will come pick you up at the villa if you call and ask. It was definitely a place to dine in style. The food ion was excellent and the chef himself would come out to help you decide what might be to your liking. I suggest putting it all on one check and dividing out when you get home though. When there were eight of us, it became a real ordeal to check out with separate checks. We didn't do that again. The walk back down the hill was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal with a view over Florence even better than the villa's.
Directions:
We took a taxi from the train station to the villa. I wrote the address on a piece of paper and handed it to the driver who inquired briefly among his colleagues and set out. Depending on the time of day it was a ten minute ride or a forty minute ride. Best price from the train station was 18 euros. Airport was slightly farther. Price to there was about 25 euros plus one euro per bag. If there are four of you or more, you may have to wait for a vehicle which can accommodate your party. No one in our group chose to have a car although some had just turned in cars before they came to the villa. Parking is allowed on the street in front of the villa, but those places were taken by local neighbors. Cars appeared to be safe there, however. The neighborhood is quiet and pleasant. Of my seven weeks there I was alone two nights and did not feel the slightest worry about being alone. Even enjoyed it when I could go down to Florence and get lost without having worry abut showing people how to get around.
Check In Out:
Check in was so easy. There is a concierge, Mario, who knows all about Florence and the villas itself. I called him as I was about an hour away coming from the Cinque Terre and he said he would meet us as the villa. He was there to explain the gate code and the eccentricities or the villa. If there were a problem with power failure or water of whatever, a call on the house's landline and he was either came immediately to fix things or explained it to me if it were a quick fix. Checking out required that Mario come to see if we had additional air conditioning expenses. We didn't, but I could see that later in the summer people would need extra cooling other than the ceiling fans. Mario also served as a taxi service to the airport or train station when I had trouble dialing the taxi company. I found out the last week that had I waited through all the Italian voice message, it was given in English and the operator was fluent in English as well. The taxi company there is good, but slow at busy times of day. Mario was willing to take my sister to the airport to catch a 600 AM flight. Taxi service doesn't run that early. I'm not sure this will ask later on about the cleaners who came on Saturdays to change linens and bring the villa back to its shining self. They were terrific. It was a couple who arrived about 1100 on Saturdays with freshly laundered AND IRONED sheets. Towels were larger than U. S. ones, plus there was a fresh hand towel and a face towel for each bed each week. What luxury. It took them about three hours of working hard to clean the house top to bottom. When I had guests arriving other than Saturdays, I asked for extra sheets or did them myself in the laundry cottage.

Overall:
Two families with three children, we had a fab time despite the temperature being over 100 degrees every day. We closed up the villa when we left in the mornings and it stayed cool despite the heat. We ran the air conditioners in all five bedrooms every night and the bill for electricity was under 30 Euros. We brought pool toys and the kids (and adults) loved the pool. Convenient to the bus into Florence (a 15 min ride) and the Hotel Rondini just up the hill had an excellent restaurant which we used twice. We really enjoyed the seven course dinner that we booked at the villa.
Enjoyed Most:
It felt like home. Everyone really enjoyed the stay and there was plenty of room for everyone. lots of time spent in the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Wouldn't have changed anything.
Surrounding Area:
The views of Florence from the villa were fab. Florence was an easy bus ride and we went into town almost every day.
Nearby Events or Locales:
La Lastra is a short walk downhill from the villa (and a looong walk back up the hill so we took to driving back and forth by the end of the week). Just a few stores including an excellent grocer who had most everything we needed for an easy dinner
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought pool toys (floats) and Teflon ice cube tray which both came in very handy. We also brought mosquito spray which was needed. Mario guided us to a supermarket near Florence after check-in on Sat and we were able to buy whatever we needed. Although we brought things like beach towels, TP, etc. we really didn't need them
Directions:
We had two cars, both with GPS and still struggled a bit on the trip from Florence airport, mostly because one of the GPS had the wrong address. We eventually found the villa however and driving was fine after that. We should have just followed the directions that came with the voucher from RentVillas!
Check In Out:
No, everything went smoothly.

Overall:
The villa was great for our group of 10 adult (5 couples). A perfect location for enjoying everything Florence had to offer and a great jumping off point for the hill towns of Tuscany and then returning to the villa for a relaxing evening.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, size, view of Florence and the freedom of being in a villa versus a hotel. It made socializing with our travel group for "happy hour" a real pleasure.
Enjoyed Least:
We missed having ice cube trays, swimming pool too cold to swim in, and some of the furniture was very old.
Surrounding Area:
It was Italy.
Nearby Events or Locales:
La Lastra--easy to walk to.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pack lightly, especially if you plan on travelling anywhere using the trains.
Directions:
No issue at all with getting to the villa.
Check In Out:
The check in check out process was very easy working with the owner, Lorenzo. Lorenzo was very responsive throughout our stay and could not have been more helpful.
