About The Experience
The town of Cortona is one of Tuscany’s jewels, and you can have your own slice of the Tuscan sun at this farmhouse that’s located near the town center. Walk to a café for a morning espresso, or stroll to a market to buy fresh ingredients to prepare an Italian meal to be enjoyed on the patio of this villa’s private courtyard. You and your family or group of friends would be hard-pressed to find a better-located and more charming accommodation for exploring this beautiful town.
Location Description

This villa is located in the charming Tuscan town of Cortona, near traditional trattorias, bars, ice-cream shops, a supermarket, greengrocers, bakeries and a butcher shop. Cortona is an ancient Etruscan hilltop town that is full of art, history, and culture. Tour frescoed churches from the 13th century; explore the original city walls, and then visit an art exhibit in the 16th century fortress. You are also sure to find restaurants featuring delicious Tuscan dishes and ancient tombs dating back to the second century BC. From the Terontola-Cortona train station down at the bottom of the hill three kilometers away, you can catch a train to Rome, Arezzo, Florence, and other cities. Lake Trasimeno also makes a great day trip.

Customer Reviews

Overall:
The overall experience was very good.
Enjoyed Most:
The rooms were nicely done. The bedrooms were lovely and the beds comfortable. There was a washing machine and dishwasher. The kitchen was well supplied and the owner was lovely. He gave us a bottle of wine on arrival and visited during the week with a bottle of home made wine. The main street with shopping and restaurants was a 10 minute walk from the house.
Enjoyed Least:
There was a lack of nearby parking. It is not an easy place to drive around for most Americans who are used to wider roads. There are a lot of steep hills in Cortona.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed visiting other Tuscan hill towns. In Cortona itself, we enjoyed the restaurants, museums and churches.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Camucia, a commercial area with a couple of supermarkets. There is nothing within walking distance of Cortona from where the house is located.
Tips or Restaurants:
Get in shape before you get there. Consider hiring a driver or taking taxis or public transportation. Be sure to bring washcloths as most European rentals don't provide them. Ask your cell phone provider for details and rates to use your phone in Europe. It is surprisingly reasonable. All the restaurants where we ate were wonderful. Our favorite was Trattoria Toscana.
Directions:
The directions were perfect. We met your representative, who spoke fairly good English, at her office and she led us to meet the owner who then led us to the house. I suggest that future renters arrive while it is still light. We arrived after dark and it was tough negotiating the road into Cortona. We used our phone GPS all through Italy.
Check In Out:
It was easy and smooth.

Overall:
Of the 4 places we stayed in Italy, Casa Lina was our favorite. We loved Cortona and this location was perfect. The neighbors were friendly and invited us in for coffee. The homeowner was a delight and our attempts to communicate with him were hilarious and are happy memories of our trip.
Enjoyed Most:
It was very comfortable, quiet and convenient. Also, it was extremely clean. You could eat off the floors.
Enjoyed Least:
Only complaint was downstairs bath really needs a shower curtain.
Surrounding Area:
Cortona was our favorite place. Other places of interest were close by.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were right in Cortona and it had all that we needed. We did not cook in the flat but could have easily.
Directions:
We carried a GPS from the States, but unfortunately it did not work and we did not know it until after we picked up our car so getting to the property and finding our way around was a challenge and in bigger cities a nightmare. Advice: GPS is a must!

Overall:
We had a fabulous time at Casa Lina in Cortona. The owner could not have been more gracious!! Although he did not speak any English at all, we figured out a way to communicate. Our stay exceeded our expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
Casa Lina is very spacious, and the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. There were plenty of dishes, glasses, pots and pans, coffee maker, dishwasher, etc. It is located in a very residential part of Cortona yet a fast walk to the central part of town (although it is a steep hill, we didn't mind - we enjoyed the exercise!).
Enjoyed Least:
(1) There is an working internet router on the property, but we did not receive a password. (2) The washing machine did not have a properly functioning spin cycle and the clothes had to be wrung out by hand. Editor's Note: The Internet and washing machine problems have been fixed. Feb 2013.
Surrounding Area:
Casa Lina is located in a lovely neighborhood that is very quiet and traditional Tuscany. We just loved it. At night we sat in the patio area with a glass of wine just enjoying the ambience.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Casa Lina is in Cortona, which ended up being our favorite town in Tuscany. We had a car, so we drove to a number of other towns. We loved them all, but Cortona was by far our favorite. It has everything you could possibly need, and the people are just beyond wonderful. I cannot describe how much we enjoyed it - it was absolutely perfect.
Check In Out:
Only comment is the owner speaks no English at all, which made it a little difficult to communicate. Not a major problem, just something to note.
