About The Experience
Experience the French countryside in luxury at this chateau in Normandy. The region is rich in natural beauty, from natural parks to shimmering fields of wheat, and this villa reflects that heritage, with small herd of cattle grazing on the estate’s pastures. However, one look at the villa’s beautiful, neoclassical façade and it’s clear that this is no farmhouse! Antiques and artworks abound, and some of the chateau’s architectural elements are on France’s historic register! It’s an ideal retreat for a large family or a large group of friends.
Location Description

This chateau is located in rural France on the border of the regions of Normandy and Ile-de-France, a traditionally agricultural area that is rich with natural beauty. The villa is within walking distance of Courtomer, a small village with two boulangeries (one with a wood-fired brick oven), a wine cave where you can buy local calvados and cider, for which Normandy is famous, an excellent butcher and charcuterie, a pharmacy, a convenience store, a bank, and a bar. On Sundays, you’ll be able to buy locally-produced camembert and foie gras, fresh vegetables and locally-raised meat and poultry at the market. A 15 minute drive away, the town of Seés has a 13th century gothic cathedral, a museum of religious art and artifacts from Normandy, and a lively Saturday market. Twenty kilometers away, there’s the Forêt du Perche et de la Trappe, a nature preserve that’s well-known for its wild mushrooms and is home to the Abbaye de la Trappe, a tranquil abbey that’s home to trappist monks. You can take day trips the towns of Alençon and Lisieux – sites of traditional pilgrimages that are about half an hour from the chateau. You can also make a day trip to Bayeux, which has famous tapestries from the 1000s and is the gateway to the D-Day beaches of World War II.

Nearby Attractions: Bayeux (ancient tapestries), Lisieux and Alençon (pilgrimage sites), Seés (13th century gothic cathedral), Courtomer (wine and pastry shops, restaurants), Forêt du Perche et de la Trappe, Abbaye de la Trappe.

Ground Floor: The property is entered via a hall that’s meticulously painted in trompe l’oeil. There are three main areas: the West and East wings and the Main block. A private area in the West Wing contains the offices of the staff and a chapel. In the West Wing, there’s a family dining room with a working fireplace, seating 10-12 at its mahogany table. The kitchen is equipped with new Siemens appliances (2 ovens, 2 refrigerators, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and plate-warmer) and granite counter-tops. There are high-quality pots and pans, gourmet-quality knives and appliances (including a Cuisinart food preparer, Krups espresso-maker, toaster, juicer, mixer). Two full sets of china, wine and regular glasses, mugs, and bowls are provided, with serving platters and bowls. An adjacent pantry has a laundry facility, with a washing machine and dryer. In the Main block, there is a formal dining room, which is large enough for banquets and has tapestries, a crystal chandelier, and large French windows overlooking the countryside. In the East Wing, the "Salle de Jeux" salon is decorated with small tables, silk-upholstered armchairs, and other antique furniture, and has double doors opening onto the terrace. Customer Reviews

Outstanding magnificent experience. Each member was very pleased with the chateau. It was styled after Versailles Palace and in it's own grandeur it stood as we approached it from the country road. Everyone in our group agreed that we would come back again to this chateau.
Enjoyed Most:
The grandeur of the chateau and the surrounding property. Should also say that the interior furnishings are magnificent antiques. The kitchen is modern, well equipped and large enough for all who wish to take part in preparing the dinner or just drink the French wines and chat. The bathrooms are all very modern and spacious.
Surrounding Area:
The chateau is located on 350 acres. Great for walking, hiking, running, etc Bikes are available, and some outdoor games are provided in the activities room of the chateau. Small charming nearby towns to visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The very near town of Courtomer, (one could walk to town) was small but had a well-stocked grocery store, (Carrfour grocery chain) two bakeries, a butcher and one restaurant. The store owners are very pleasant. The owner of the restaurant closed his small restaurant so that on Sunday evening he could cook dinner for our group in a private dining room.
Tips or Restaurants:
Nothing to bring, very well-equipped We wanted to go to the beaches at Normandy and that is a two hour drive. Well worth the drive but set out early because it is a whole day trip to see all the beaches and monuments. Quite touching and not to be missed. We loved the chateau so much that it was a wonderful place to come home to after being out all day sightseeing. The Loire Valley is an hour and a half away but again worth the time if you like to sample the wines of the Loire Valley.
When traveling we all used a GPS system. They are great and will take you straight to the center of town, Courtomer, or directly to the entrance of the chateau. The written directions from the center of town were easy to understand and they also took you straight to the chateau. Very, very dark so we suggest you arrive in the day light
Check In Out:
Check in and check out are wonderful--no problems. Just enjoy and relax because you will be overwhelmed by the size and grandeur of the chateau. Check in with Francine the caretaker was smooth and pleasant. She does not speak a word of English but because of her warm smile and friendly, helpful personality we understood everything. I loved her because she is "part of the chateau experience". When we left she came out to say goodbye, "Bonne route". So nice.
