About The Experience

This beautiful 16th century villa has been providing memorable experiences in Tuscany for hundreds of years, and you and your guests will enjoy its timeless features like wood beam ceilings and terracotta tile floors, as well as its modern amenities like its private swimming pool. Just as importantly, this villa is well-positioned for experiencing the best of Tuscany, with a small village within walking distance and access to Lucca, one of the region’s most charming cities. Every bedroom has an ensuite bathroom, so this is a great choice for families or a group of friends. On the same large estate are Casa Matilda, and Casa Francesco, which can also be rented at the same time for larger groups.

Location Description

The villa is located 1 km from the village of Segromigno in Monte where there is a market, pizzeria, shop, and post office. Just 12 kilometers away is Lucca, which is a must-see city full of medieval charm and impressive sights. The Duomo di San Martino and the Church of San Michele in Foro are both gorgeous examples of period architecture, while the Casa di Puccini, where the composer was born, has been transformed into a small museum in his honor. You can also climb the 130-foot Torre Guinigi, but on the other hand viewing the tree-topped tower from below might be just as enjoyable… and a lot less work! Plus there are plenty of shops and restaurants for your enjoyment. Day trip destinations include Pisa and Florence.

Nearby Attractions: Lucca (The Duomo di San Martino, Church of San Michele in Foro, Casa di Puccini), Pisa, Segromigno in Monte (restaurants, shops, cafes), Florence, Viareggio (beaches)

Customer Reviews

Overall:
Our family enjoyed the villa so much they wished they had more time to just enjoy the villa and stay on the property. From check-in to check-out, everyone made us feel special, and understood that for us, it was the trip of a lifetime.
Enjoyed Most:
The property invited you to enjoy the surroundings, learn about the local community, and easily bring your group together for dinners, firepit chats, and lawn tennis. The villa was charming, clean, easy to get around, and beautiful.
Enjoyed Least:
Even the locals had a hard time finding the correct entrance, so maybe more signage.
Surrounding Area:
The sweeping views of Lucca, the aroma from the fruit and olive trees, the hospitality of the villa representatives.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I do not think it was walkable, yet we had a private driver take us around to Lucca. For a taxi to the nearest grocery store and back was 50 Euro.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would bring mosquito spray, laundry pods, and tennis balls.

Overall:
Our experience at Villa Lucchesia was like a dream come true! It was a beautiful villa that accommodated all 13 people in our extended family comfortably!
Enjoyed Most:
The views of the countryside from the villa!
Enjoyed Least:
The washing machine for clothes. We needed clear instructions for operating and choosing quicker cycles. An outdoor clothes line would have been good for drying clothes faster and adding the fresh mountain air to our clothes!
Surrounding Area:
The scenery and the close access to Lucca, Florence and Viareggio beaches!
Nearby Events or Locales:
I don't remember the name of the little town at the bottom of the hill, but it was not really in comfortable walking distance and the route was not very safe for walking due to no sidewalks, etc.
Tips or Restaurants:
Stop in Lucca to get dish soap and laundry soap before going on to the villa. We also had basic groceries ordered and delivered and waiting for us when we arrived.
Directions:
We used a van service when coming and going from the villa. The first driver seemed a bit unsure of a couple of turns when we got close to the villa. Maybe better signage would have helped?
Check In Out:
The check-in and check-out were easy. The WiFi password had been changed since the instructions were left with our check-in host had been informed. Also the WiFi was not very strong in several areas of the villa.
