About The Experience
Experience what the French called the joie de vivre at this 16th century walk-to-town villa in southern France. Limoux, an enchanting town within Languedoc, is located just steps from your private, gated villa which boasts views over the river Aude. Four couples or a large family will enjoy the spacious layout, and the private pool. Have a glass of Blanquette in the town’s main square or visit Carcassonne for a day, less than a half an hour away.
Location Description

This villa is located within a five minute walk from the town square of Limoux, a charming medieval market town. Home to one of Europe's most popular Carnavals, the Fécos is when the locals hold a two-month-long fête to food and music. The earliest and longest celebration in France, the Fécos begins in January and ends two weeks before Easter Sunday. Within the charming town of Limoux is a dominant café scene (the locals love their food and drink!)…plenty can be found in and around the main square, Place de la République. The Musée du Piano and the Jardin aux Plantes la Bouichere are notable sites to visit as well. Markets are held every Friday throughout the year and Tuesdays nights during the summer. For daytrips, visit some of the Cathar castles (several are within 50-100 km/31-62 mi of the villa) or take a drive to the Mediterranean beaches, about 80 km/50 mi away.

Nearby Attractions: This region is known for Blanquette de Limoux, champagne-style wine, said to have been invented before it was credited to Dom Perignon and the region of Champagne, as well as Malepere, Minervois, Corbiere, and other well-known wines. Take the winery tours at Sieur d’Arques and Aimery. This area boasts a mild climate perfect for outdoor activities including horseback riding, canoeing on the river Aude, kayaking, fishing and cycling. The Ferme Equestre de Pommayrac, in Verzeille (about 20 minutes from Limoux), is a nice family-friendly option for a variety of horse riding activities. Adventure seekers can experience the spectacular gorges of Languedoc such as the Gorges du Tarn in Lozere.

Customer Reviews

This property is totally unique and makes for an amazing experience. All the architecture, the design and execution of the renovations, and the ease of using kitchen as well as ability for a group to enjoy private time and communal time easily and proximity to town center make for once in a life time experience.
Enjoyed Most:
Space and proximity to town center the wine shop, the bakery and green grocers as well as restaurants and local museums. Views over the river to town were quintessential small town French and the garden is a peaceful and beautiful place to relax after a day of touring.
Enjoyed Least:
Parking can be challenging and the two staircases within the house are not for the faint of heart. This is not the place for anyone who is not sure footed and secure on open slippery stone stairs which are time worn and without railings. Three bedrooms on second floor and third bedroom and TV room up another flight of open metal stairs. Would not rent this place for my mother or grandchildren.
Surrounding Area:
Carcassonne, Renne-le Chateux, and Bacchus restaurant all not to be missed. Countryside with vineyards and tasting rooms provide many diversions. Weekly market in Limoux fun and makes for fantastic farm to table meal.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Limoux center easy walk for breakfast croissants and pain au chocolat. Restaurants on square convenient and good.
Tips or Restaurants:
Everything is there at the house, including many useful guides to the area. Plan to cook and eat in with the bounty of the countryside. House is ideal for a house party every night. Just watch the stairs!
Directions are perfect. Just follow them and you'll not go wrong.
Check In Out:
Process was smooth. Texting the house manager, who spoke perfect English is the way to go to assure smooth check-in. Check out smooth and easy.

A perfect experience. The house is truly expertly designed and decorated -- we kept discovering new "finds" in the house every day -- yet so comfortable that it feels like you're staying in a friend's home. This also has to do with the personal accessibility to the owner and the caretakers, who while off-property, could not have been more accommodating.
Enjoyed Most:
The age and history of the building, the care, cleverness and detail of the remodeled design, the kitchen, the living rooms, the bathrooms, the gardenpool, the view.
Enjoyed Least:
The property is perfect. If forced to find any less-than-perfect attributes, perhaps it would be the town of Limoux itself, which while quite nice, it is a regular working town, not a postcard French village. We knew that going in, and liked the fact that there is real life being lived in the town with all the conveniences of that (restaurants, shops, pharmacies geared to the locals), but just mention as some travelers may be looking for the more quaint experience.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery of the surrounding areas, the tasting rooms, and the markets in Mirepoix, Esperaza, Limoux and Carcasonne.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Limoux - the main square is 3 minutes walk from the house.
Tips or Restaurants:
The house is thoroughly furnished. No need to bring anything besides any food items you may want with you immediately. Domaine Gayda is a vineyard with an excellent tasting room and restaurant focusing on non-sparkling wines. About 15 minutes away in Brugairolles. The tasting and restaurant are both worth seeking out.
Used GPS and had no problem finding the house.
Check In Out:
Check-in/out couldn't have been easier. Anne and Charles were very responsive and accommodating.

Enjoyed Most:
The villa was so beautiful and artistically renovated, it was like being in a beautiful museum or art gallery. It was so spacious we had lots of room. And there were so many great castles and vineyards a short drive away.
Enjoyed Least:
No night life in the town, restaurants closed at 9.
Surrounding Area:
The many castles, and vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Yes, Limoux was only a 5 min walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't miss La Cite at Carcassonne and the castles Chateau de Puilaurens and Chateau de Termes, both with breathtaking scenery.
It was easy to find using Google Maps.
Check In Out:
Simple and easy.
