About The Experience
A typical Provencal priory in an authentic village is just what your large family is dreaming of for their stay in France. Located in Cabrières d’Avignon, this six bedroom villa, characterized by warm colors, is slightly reminiscent of a Tuscan property but the private garden and pool area, as well as the town’s church looming over your property, are all typically French and very Provencal. This location is very central for visiting the villages of Luberon, including Avignon.
Location Description

Located near the church of Cabrières d’Avignon, this villa is set in the heart of one of the Luberon’s most charming medieval villages. Cabrières d’Avignon is a perfectly preserved cluster of honey-colored houses and dry stone walls, with narrow winding streets, fountains, original washhouses and a 12th century castle (now privately owned) with a bloody history. The village shops, a baker, excellent butcher and grocer are two minutes walking distance from the house as is the excellent village restaurant. There’s a second restaurant 10 minutes’ walk away. There are two supermarkets within a drive of 20 minutes. Cabrières is an ideal location from which to explore the highlights of inland Provence, with many attractions being within a half hour drive. The Roman cities of Arles, Avignon, Nimes, St-Remy and Vaison la Romain are also within easy driving distance. There are daily markets, including antiques in L’Isle sur la Sorgue, and a summer season of fetes and music/opera festivals all nearby.

Customer Reviews

Overall:
The property was beautiful, comfortable, and very well equipped. Our family especially enjoyed the outdoor areas for meals.
Enjoyed Most:
The owners have retained the historical features and furnishings. The significant upgrades for plumbing and electricity were beautifully done.
Enjoyed Least:
Everything was fine. We didn't use the pool, not because we didn't want to, but because we were so busy doing other things.
Surrounding Area:
We rented cars and took day trips to nearby spots, including Gordes, Roussillion, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Nimes, Avignon. Driving in the area was beautiful (we avoided toll roads and major roads). We visited the Sunday market in Coustellet and purchased wine and food for much of the week.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The property is situated next to the church in Cabriere d'Avignon. And, yes, we were able to walk to shops and restaurants. Very convenient!
Tips or Restaurants:
We needed additional paper supplies, but they were easy to obtain.
Directions:
The directions were good, and we used a GPS.
Check In Out:
We were very warmly greeted when we arrived. The owner provided some wine, cheese, bread, olives, and fruit! It was especially welcoming after a long day of travel.

Enjoyed Most:
The villa surpassed what we expected. It was better than pictured on your website - often pictures just don't do justice! The yard was wonderful and more extensive than it looked. We really enjoyed it for breakfast and after dinner. The pool was just wonderful! All bedrooms were a good size, had very comfortable beds and while some bathrooms were much nicer and newer than others, all were fine! The grand salon was perfect. Kitchen facilities and dishes, utensils, pans, etc. left nothing to be desired. There were many sets of dishes to choose from, plenty of nice table linens and lots of wine glasses. The coffee machine was a little slow - but worked. Refrigerator and freezer was larger than I expected. It was wonderful having a great gas grill and 2 additional outside eating areas. Washing machine and dishwasher were great. Dryer was fine too, just typical European dryer with a water drawer to change and took a long, long time. We rarely used it. There were several clothes lines we used and it was nice to have sun kissed clothes. Parking facilities were great! Enough car port type space for 3 vehicles to be out of the sun and room in the driveways for more.
Surrounding Area:
The village was wonderful. Charming, authentic, and not touristy at all. It has a great bakery, butcher, small grocery store with lots of fresh produce and a couple of nice places to eat. I did choose this villa partly for it location which was absolutely great for touring Provence. Prior to this visit, I had visited Provence 4 times and spent several weeks in different areas. The villa had lots of nice areas to walk. It was fun being next to the church! The bells only chimed from 7am - 9 pm. We did get to see 2 weddings.
Directions:
Directions very easy to find villa.

Overall:
Excellent stay and everybody enjoyed themselves.
Enjoyed Most:
Lovely lounge, great outside areas for a large (9 person) group. Lovely garden leading out onto the village square, plenty of room for parking. Nice pool area with nice size swimming pool. Nicely furnished and decorated in keeping with the period of the property.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen area was a little small, no problem for us but if the weather was not so good then you would have to use the dining table in the lounge. The bathroom facilities are adequate only, some of the bathrooms only had a bath with a hand held shower which wasn't ideal. The majority of the bedrooms were a good size.
Surrounding Area:
Fantastic location, beautiful non-touristy village with wonderfully friendly people. Great local produce from the few (but enough) shops in the village, if needed a supermarket is just over a five minute drive away. Easy drives to fantastic locations, Avignon, Isles Sur La Sorgue, Gordes, Pont de Gard to name a few.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Cabrieres D'Avignon. The property is right in the village next to the village church, lovely walking through the village at any time but especially at dusk when the street lights are just coming on. Restaurant and shops within minutes walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring soap. There are many, many restaurants in Isles Sur La Sorgue about 15 minutes away, all running alongside the river that runs through the town. If you want to stay in, the local butcher has plenty of local produce and makes his own delicatessen meat dishes and terrines. He also makes spit roasted chickens but ask him to take the head and feet off, this with some cheese and olives from the local shop (try the french beer) and fresh bread from the bakery--a meal fit for a king!
Directions:
We did use a GPS and had no problems finding the property.
Check In Out:
Check in, check out was easy. Owner greeted us on arrival and said goodbye on departure. All easy with no problems.
