- Location Description
-
Positano, just one kilometer from this villa, is located in one of the most beautiful valleys of the Amalfi Coast, and the valley opens up to an equally magnificent stretch of coastline. At the center of the pedestrian maze of cobblestone alleys and steps, you can see the traditional brightly colored dome of Santa Maria Assunta, the main church of Positano. As well as completing the picturesque view of this Southern Italian town, the church is also a very important part of daily life for many local inhabitants. Even though Positano is such a beautiful town, you will want to venture further, into the surrounding areas of Ravello, Sorrento, and Amalfi. You can take a bus, taxi, or ferry to reach the other towns along the coast. Blue SITA buses cost about 1-2 euros, depending on destination. Stops are marked with a blue and white SITA sign. The small internal bus (orange mini-bus) of Positano is marked by a brown FERMATA sign.
Please Note: While the Amalfi Coast is beautiful and charming, it is also steep, with many uphill and downhill stairs and walkways. In general, it is an area that is not kind to those of us with knee or mobility issues. This should be considered before booking a property in this area.

(1000 m2 of gardens + 350 m2 of terraces)
This villa is hidden behind walls with a large wooden door opening directly onto one of the many passageways through the village. Dating back to 1741, this historical house is decorated with antique furniture and paintings resembling the inside of a museum. The villa features a Mediterranean garden full of bougainvillea, lemon and orange trees. The house has several terraces, and the garden has a lovely view on the beach of Positano. There is a private pool area (4.5m x 8.5 m, 1.3m deep) with sunbeds and beach umbrellas. Please note: It is not possible to access the villa by car – this can only be done on foot via a long, winding alleyway with over 150 steps in total. A porter is available to help with luggage transfer on arrival and departure, but this villa is not recommended for babies or toddlers, those with walking difficulties, or the elderly.

Overall:
Gorgeous property with skilled, friendly, accommodating staff.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the staff.
Enjoyed Least:
Not for anyone with mobility issues or tendency to motion sickness. Property is accessed via steep walk and only very winding roads in and out of the city. Difficulty in accessing the city/villa is what makes the landscape so dramatically beautiful.
Surrounding Area:
The hiking trails and amazing views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nocelle is within walking distance, for able hikers. Worth the climb and descent. The beach below the villa offers good shopping and great restaurants for lunch, as well as water sport and boating options.
Tips or Restaurants:
The pool at the villa is much more relaxing than sunning and swimming on the beach below. Casual clothing with comfortable walking shoes are advisable, as are hats for the hot and sunny summer months.
Directions:
Villa Lara does not appear on GPS listings.
Check In Out:
It was easy. Any questions before travel were readily answered via email with the property manager.

Overall:
The whole week was amazing. All 15 of us loved every minute of it.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa itself with its stylish decor, wonderful staff, beautiful pool, and amazing views of Positano and the sea.
Enjoyed Least:
So many steps to get up to it, but worth it. We'd often go for a swim in the pool upon returning to the villa in the afternoons.
Surrounding Area:
Perfect for everyone in the group. Day trips to Amalfi, Ravello, Pompeii. Guided Path of the Gods hike. Lunch and shopping in Positano. Chartered boat to Capri for day including two stops for swimming.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Positano walk down steps.
Tips or Restaurants:
Hiking boots if you plan to hike.
Bathing suits for pool and sea.
Hat and sunscreen.
Villa has anything else you'd need.
Directions:
You can see the villa from the ferry dock in the harbor, but exact directions on which staircases to take would be helpful. First time up we followed the road which takes longer and is too close to buses. (After yellow awning take stairs across street. At mini market take another set of stairs up).
Those arriving by car/driver have it easier. Drivers dropped them off at last set of stairs.
Check In Out:
Easy. Need cash for security deposit and copies of passports. Security deposit is then used to buy groceries. We only had to pay an additional 310 euros for food/wine.
