About The Experience
This 18th century villa is nestled in the colorful cliffs of Positano. The villa’s charming authentic features remain intact, such as a wood-fired oven used in the past for bread baking. The villa is airy and light and offers guests a panoramic terrace overlooking the town, the Tower of Fornillo, and sea. The location allows for access to town by foot (it is steep!) where there are many restaurants, shops, and cafés. Guests can slip into the slow-paced leisure of coastal life along the Mediterranean.
Location Description

“Positano bites deep” John Steinbeck wrote, referring to the dream-like quality the town possesses. The charming pastel residences sit along narrow, winding roads on steep hillsides overlooking the Mediterranean. From the villa you are just a 10 minute walk from the center of town and 15 from the nearest beach. The beach Spiaggia Grande has been described as one of the most beautiful beaches along the coast but, for more peace and privacy, seek out Fornillo beach; accessed along a coastal path via Spiaggia Grande. If time permits, hire one of the town’s “sea taxis”; small boats which transport visitors to secluded bays only accessible by boat. Wander in to the many colorful boutiques or quaint cafés, and dine at one of the many restaurants.

Please Note: While the Amalfi Coast is beautiful and charming, it is also steep, with many uphill and downhill stairs and walkways. In general, it is an area that is not kind to those of us with knee or mobility issues. This should be considered before booking a property in this area.

Nearby Attractions: Visit nearby Sorrento, which is famous for its limoncello (an alcoholic aperitif) and inlaid wood – you can visit one of the workshops still in operation today to see this centuries-old craft in action. Visit Sorrento’s 10th century Basilica di San Antonio, which was built to honor the patron saint of navigators and still attracts sailors’ offerings to this day. The "Sorrento Summer of Music" is also held at the cloisters from July to September, and features international musicians performing alongside emerging talents. Amalfi is also nearby and dates back to the 6th century, with historical and medieval architecture throughout. The main sites include the Duomo, in Amalfi's center, the cathedral of Sant' Andrea, which dates back to the 11th century, and the Cloister of Paradise. There is also a museum dedicated to the works of Morelli and a museum where you can view artifacts of Amalfi's long and interesting history. During the summer months, there are daily ferries leaving from Positano to Capri, Sorrento, and Naples.

Exterior Description
(200 m2/2,152 ft2)

(45 Steps) Entrance to the beautiful 18th century villa is accessed through a gate, via a narrow alley and staircase. At the entrance, below the terrace, there is a bas-relief of a Pistrice—a mythical sea creature. The outdoor space includes a sizable, secluded garden outfitted with flagstones—interlaced with grass—with plenty of outdoor seating. On the first floor there is a panoramic terrace overlooking the sea, with a vine-covered pergola and alfresco dining area.

Interior Description
(300 m2/3,229 ft2)

Ground Floor: The villa is furnished with many vintage pieces and décor. Through the entrance you will find the authentic wood-fire oven—it can only be used by a professional pizza maker, but pizza parties can be arranged. From this area you have access to a study and storage area. There is also a comfortable living room and dining room that lead out to the garden area.

First Floor: (10 Steps) In this area you will find the fully equipped kitchen—with rustic décor touches—which has direct access to the panoramic terrace and alfresco dining area. There is also a cozy single bedroom with 80cm narrow twin bed and an en-suite bathroom with shower.

Second Floor: (10 Steps) On this floor you will find additional bedrooms. There is a double bedroom with a 160cm queen-sized bed and an en-suite bathroom with a bathtub and shower. The next two bedrooms are also doubles with 160cm queen-sized beds. These rooms share a bathroom with a shower. The final double bedroom on this floor also had a 160cm queen-sized bed with a large bathroom with bathtub and separate shower (not en-suite). Each of these rooms has direct terrace access.

This portion of the villa is adjacent to the entrance gate—with its own private entrance—and contains the final double bedroom with 160cm queen-sized bed and has an en-suite bathroom with shower.

Customer Reviews

It was nothing short of amazing. Completely far exceeded my expectations. It was everything and more then what I was looking for. From the exceptional care provided to us from the beginning from Mary Kate to our arrival and greeting by Paola, it set the tone for what turned out to be an unforgettable dream holiday.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was simply perfect. The amenities are what you would expect from your home away from home. The care and attention to detail again provided by Maria and Paola was exceptional. The views were spectacular, the rooms were large and very comfortable. We decided to stay in two nights and cook. The local butcher, produce, and fish merchant were in close proximity and reasonably priced.
Enjoyed Least:
I honestly cannot say that there was anything within the property that I didn't like. We knew what we signed up for in regards to the number of stairs to get up to the villa and down to the beach. But it's Positano. The buses were extremely convenient and at 1.80 euro worth every bit. The WiFi was intermittent and didn't work in every room which again was absolutely fine. The only thing missing from the villa was music.
Surrounding Area:
It was extremely convenient to get to the beach, stores, town. I would have to say it was the perfect location to everything.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You would need tohire a car or take a bus
Tips or Restaurants:
Chez Black is a landmark down by the water. I would recommend Tattoria La Tagliata for a great dining experience. They will send a car for you and your party. Authentic farm to table local cuisine. Prepare to spend at least 2.5 hours. They even take you in to the kitchen to meet and have pictures with Mama. No menu.. didn't know what it would cost until we got our bill. The best 45 euro a piece I spent. Great experience.
He hired a driver and he had no issues.
Check In Out:
Both were extremely seamless.

We loved Positano and the property and location did add to the experience. We spent most of our time in the kitchen and outdoors.
Enjoyed Most:
Location and views. The bedrooms were beautiful... also the bathrooms. The maid service was very much appreciated!
Enjoyed Least:
We did not find the living area to be comfortable. There were no English language channels on the TV.
Surrounding Area:
What's not to like!? Location into Positano convenient, especially with the bus stop so near. Restaurants so near were wonderful!
Nearby Events or Locales:
We did several tours, but did hire a private tour company.
We did not drive at all. Directions were perfect.

We had a very positive experience. We spent most of our time in the kitchen or outside areas. The villa and Positano is not an easy area to get around, so be sure you are ready to walk and climb steps.
Enjoyed Most:
Location. It is centrally located in Positano. It seems that Positano is centrally located in the Amalfi coast and easy to take side trips to the other towns. The view from the top floor bedroom area is wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
The main level outside areas are very nice but the view is blocked by a building. Internet service is spotty.
Surrounding Area:
The view from the bedroom balconies is fantastic. There is a very good restaurant located at the bottom of the villa's steps. The entire area is very picturesque.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in Positano and very close to steps to the shopping and restaurants, as well as, the bus stop that takes you to those areas if you do not want to walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
RentVillas guidelines provide good suggestions. The kitchen is well equipped. Need detergent for the washing machine. There are hairdryers in every bathroom. Renters should seriously think about hiring porter service since there are 50 steps up to the villa and more inside.
We had a hired driver from Rome so we had no problem. Parking is very difficult.
