About The Experience
This 18th century villa is nestled in the colorful cliffs of Positano. The villa’s charming authentic features remain intact, such as a wood-fired oven used in the past for bread baking. The villa is airy and light and offers guests a panoramic terrace overlooking the town, the Tower of Fornillo, and sea. The location allows for access to town by foot (it is steep!) where there are many restaurants, shops, and cafés. Guests can slip into the slow-paced leisure of coastal life along the Mediterranean.
Location Description

“Positano bites deep” John Steinbeck wrote, referring to the dream-like quality the town possesses. The charming pastel residences sit along narrow, winding roads on steep hillsides overlooking the Mediterranean. From the villa you are just a 10 minute walk from the center of town and 15 from the nearest beach. The beach Spiaggia Grande has been described as one of the most beautiful beaches along the coast but, for more peace and privacy, seek out Fornillo beach; accessed along a coastal path via Spiaggia Grande. If time permits, hire one of the town’s “sea taxis”; small boats which transport visitors to secluded bays only accessible by boat. Wander in to the many colorful boutiques or quaint cafés, and dine at one of the many restaurants.

Please Note: While the Amalfi Coast is beautiful and charming, it is also steep, with many uphill and downhill stairs and walkways. In general, it is an area that is not kind to those of us with knee or mobility issues. This should be considered before booking a property in this area.

Nearby Attractions: Visit nearby Sorrento, which is famous for its limoncello (an alcoholic aperitif) and inlaid wood – you can visit one of the workshops still in operation today to see this centuries-old craft in action. Visit Sorrento’s 10th century Basilica di San Antonio, which was built to honor the patron saint of navigators and still attracts sailors’ offerings to this day. The "Sorrento Summer of Music" is also held at the cloisters from July to September, and features international musicians performing alongside emerging talents. Amalfi is also nearby and dates back to the 6th century, with historical and medieval architecture throughout. The main sites include the Duomo, in Amalfi's center, the cathedral of Sant' Andrea, which dates back to the 11th century, and the Cloister of Paradise. There is also a museum dedicated to the works of Morelli and a museum where you can view artifacts of Amalfi's long and interesting history. During the summer months, there are daily ferries leaving from Positano to Capri, Sorrento, and Naples.

Customer Reviews

Overall:
Our group of 3 couples spent a week in late October at Villa Cometa. After a stop in Naples, the villa was very relaxing. It offers a great location--in Positano but far enough away from the city center to be isolated from the crowds. The price for that was the walk into town down and back on the very steep steps other reviews have mentioned. The views from the upper flow terrace are spectacular. We arrived on the last weekend of the season and Positano was still very, very crowded. But from Monday on the town was more relaxed and accessible. The only downside was that a number of restaurants and shops were closed. Overall, a wonderful experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the convenience of grocery and wine shops nearby. Hotel Gabrisa next door is also a convenient bar and restaurant with very good service.
Enjoyed Least:
The dish washer and washer dryer take some getting used to. But overall, all of the facilities were good.
Surrounding Area:
The sights and shopping in Positano can be covered pretty quickly, so some trips outside are a good change of pace. We hired a car and driver for a day trip to Ravello and enjoyed it. Beautiful views from Villas Rufolo and Cimbrone. We also visited Sorrento on the way to Positano and enjoyed it much more than Naples.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You are right in Positano up the cliff from the beach and town center. Although it's probably less than 3/4 of a mile linearly, the steps make it a good workout. It's a more gentle but longer walk to follow the road through its switchbacks to the beach but it is narrow and there is a lot of traffic.
Tips or Restaurants:
Hotel Gabrisa next to the Villa is a great bar and restaurant and we loved the staff there. We also really enjoyed the restaurant Next2. We ate there twice because the food and service as so good. Also enjoyed lunch at Bucca di Baco on the beach.
Directions:
We used a car and driver for the transfer from Naples to the Positano and the driver called Paola the property manager for perfect directions
Check In Out:
The property manager was terrific. Check in was quick and easy and she was always accessible by text or WhatsApp for questions and suggestions. We really appreciated her help.

Enjoyed Most:
The outdoor patio areas and the amazing view of the sea.
Enjoyed Least:
I wish it wasn't overlooking a roof, but you can't have everything.
Surrounding Area:
Enormously charming and beautiful surroundings with amazing views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Everything is within walking distance, and if going to restaurants or other towns there is a shuttle service or ferries.
Tips or Restaurants:
Our favorite restaurant was Il Ritrovo where they picked us up by shuttle. It was an amazing experience. The food was absolutely delicious!

Overall:
Very good.
Enjoyed Most:
We liked the private feel although you are nestled in with other houses and hotels, you feel separate.
Enjoyed Least:
The set up of the bedrooms on the second floor is odd - you have to walk through bedrooms to get to others unless you walk on the outside balcony and leave the balcony door into the house open.
Surrounding Area:
Restaurants and town are easy walking distance. Easy to get to beach although steep path back up.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano - not really easy walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Hotel Villa Gabrisa just down the steps is excellent - also enjoyed eating at Max - many good restaurant choices.
Directions:
Directions were good.
