About The Experience
Spend the vacation of your dreams in this idyllic Tuscan paradise amidst olive groves, vineyards, and wooded hillsides. This beautiful villa rental boasts traditional interiors that are both rustic and elegant. You and your guests will feel right at home on this large private estate just outside San Gimignano—one of Tuscany’s most renowned hill towns. Spend your days swimming in the pool, dining alfresco, or planning trips into the nearby towns and villages!
Location Description

San Gimignano is one of the most visited towns in Tuscany and is full of life and things to do. You will want to climb up one of the towers, visit the 12th century Duomo, the People's Palace, and museums dedicated to artwork and archeology. There are also plenty of wine tasting, art galleries, shops, and delicious restaurants. Numerous celebrations and gatherings are held every year including a music festival featuring theater, ballet, and opera performances and a Medieval Harvest festival where the people of San Gimignano dress up as knights and play medieval games and have tournaments.

While San Gimignano is 3.5 km away by car, it is possible to walk to the town on an unpaved country road for about half the distance, and then meet up with the main road into town - all uphill.

Nearby Attractions: Volterra is situated on a rocky hilltop 1770 feet above sea level and is filled with restaurants, shops, markets, and ancient castles. It is a great place to visit for anyone interested in the Etruscans. It is encircled by Etruscan walls and features the Guarnacci Museum, home to a large display of Etruscan antiques and artifacts.

Customer Reviews

Overall:
We had a wonderful time at the villa. Everything about the villa and property exceeded our expectations. The grounds at this time of the year were breathtaking with flowers in full bloom. Every detail in the house was welcoming, all of our needs were anticipated. As we were making our plans before arrival, the owner was most responsive. Once there, the villa manager catered to our every need. We cannot wait to return.
Enjoyed Most:
The pictures cannot capture the serenity and beauty of the property. There are welcoming places around the villa to sit and absorb the views. Though only a few members of our party used the pool, we all enjoyed sitting there. The large fully equipped kitchen was the heart of the villa for us. It was hard to choose whether to eat outside or in the dining room. Each bedroom is unique and furnished exquisitely with an adjoining bath. Each bedroom is private. We felt welcomed and at home.
Enjoyed Least:
I don't think there was anything we did not like about the property. You will be best served if a member of your party enjoys driving as the road at night is a bit daunting. To our three sons, it was an enjoyable part of the experience.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the proximity to so many wonderful towns and Florence. Which ever way you went from the Villa, the drive was incredible.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The Villa was a short distance to San Gimignano. For more adventurous types, it would be walking distance. And forget Rick Steves. This was our favorite small town. Just beautiful and so enjoyable.
Tips or Restaurants:
You don't need to worry about bringing anything. The villa is fully equipped with everything. Too many great restaurants to write about.
Directions:
Directions to the Villa that were provided were excellent. And of course Google Maps on your phone takes you every where now.
Check In Out:
Nelson made the check-in and check-out process very easy. We were surprised by all of the wonderful items stocked in the kitchen to make our first evening/breakfast enjoyable. My husband particularly enjoyed the Nespresso machine and abundant cups. Just were sad to leave after a week.

Overall:
Staying at Villa Dora feels like you have been entrusted with the keys to a dear friend's home who has invited you to stay while he is away. The property, the home, the furnishings are all exquisite. No detail has been forgotten. The home is elegant, timeless, peaceful and welcoming. When we left, we each held hopes of returning.
Enjoyed Most:
I liked how all the elements of the property combined perfectly. Everything flowed and balanced and pulled you in to enjoyment of a very special place. Members of our family could be inside the home, down by the pool, sitting around the patio table or enjoying the gardens while still feeling happily connected.
Surrounding Area:
This was my first visit to Tuscany and I really enjoyed the beauty of the countryside, the ancient hilltop towns and the friendliness of the Italian people.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was San Gimingao. Technically it is within walking distance but not for me a good use of time.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you have the opportunity to stay at this villa, don't miss it. The owners have thought of everything you might want. He is also very helpful with advice and suggestions before you even arrive. His local representative is also very personable and available.
Directions:
Follow the directions the owner provides and you will have no difficulty finding the villa. Maps on your smart phone are very helpful for traveling around Tuscany.

Overall:
The caretaker was fantastic upon our arrival! He provided an excellent tour and answered all of our questions. The villa exceeded my expectations and I have already recommended it to several of my friends.
Enjoyed Most:
Every bedroom had its own sitting room and bathroom. And lots of space for all of us to hang out and not be on top of each other.
Enjoyed Least:
Not really a complaint, but the dryer took forever to dry.
Surrounding Area:
Very serene and peaceful. Also, our group can get quite loud, especially with wine, so it was great not to have anyone super close by. )
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano. Technically it was in walking distance (about 2 miles away), but very hilly, so we didn't walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Great restaurants in San Gimignano and Cesani winery in Volterra - wine tasting at Podere Marcampo and dinner at Ristorante Enoteca 'Del Duca'.
Directions:
We used GPS so it was super easy.
Check In Out:
It was efficient and excellent!
