About The Experience
This beautiful Tuscan villa has many vantage points from which you can admire the rolling hills and landscape of the Chianti region. The villa enjoys a rich history and has been carefully restored to offer modern comforts amidst rustic elegance. Beautiful outdoor spaces equipped with dining and lounge areas are the perfect place to gather with family and friends for meals and conversation. You are also ideally located to plan day trips to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, and Volterra.
Location Description

The villa is located 3km outside the medieval village of Barberino Val d’Elsa in the Chianti region of Tuscany. There are shops, restaurants, a great pizzeria, a market, a bank, and a post office. Dating back to the Middle Ages, Barberino Val d'Elsa marks the midway point between Siena and Florence. The village has an ancient church, castle, chapel, and beautiful views of the olive groves and vineyards that make up much of the Chianti Classico region. You can enjoy wine tasting, biking, tennis, and other activities in the area. Nearby Poggibonsi has markets, shops, restaurants, and a small train station.

Nearby Attractions: San Gimignano is perfect for a day trip. As one of the most visited towns in Tuscany, it is known for its rich history dating back to the Etruscan times. It is full of life and things to do. Popular attractions include the famous towers, the 12th century Duomo, the People's Palace, and several museums dedicated to artwork and archeology. There are also plenty of wine tasting tours, art galleries, shops, and delicious restaurants. Numerous celebrations and gatherings are held every year including a music festival featuring theater, ballet, and opera performances, and a Medieval Harvest festival where the people of San Gimignano dress up as knights, play medieval games, and have tournaments.

Customer Reviews

Overall:

Rooms were great and outdoor seating accommodated our group nicely.
Enjoyed Least:
Many doors leading outside, each with a unique key. A little awkward to manage different keys.
Surrounding Area:
Scenic drives, good restaurants and wine tasting.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Barberino Val d'Elsa. It was not within walking distance but just a short drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring lotion, shampoo, bath soap as there is only enough provided for about 2 days.
Directions:
No issues
Check In Out:
Owner does a great job walking through the property and identifying options around the area, as well as special events that can be hosted at the villa.

Joan, October

One of the most enjoyable and memorable family experiences we ever had!

Enjoyed Least:
The road in is rough but it's not a significant factor.

Nearby Events or Locales:
Barbarino val d'Elsa, and you did need to drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ristorante Campanellino was right at the top of hill across the street from the villa and the food was fresh and authentic.
Directions:
GPS was not accurate.
Check In Out:
The owners were responsive and easy to work with - no problems whatsoever.

Louis, July

Overall:
Renting a luxury villa in Tuscany has always been on my "bucket list" and Villa Liona exceeded my lofty expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
If you want a lovely, first class property with a million dollar view this is the villa for you. We had 6 couples who each had wonderful accommodations and could still have their privacy.
Enjoyed Least:
We had a few miscommunications with the property owners but nothing major.
Surrounding Area:
It is well situated between Florence and Siena to allow for day trips to many areas. It is not too far off the highway yet still is nestled in a peaceful location with a commanding view of the beautiful countryside.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Tavernelle is the nearest town, maybe 10 minutes away. There is a lovely restaurant within walking distance of the villa and we enjoyed a nice meal there.
Tips or Restaurants:
Annagloria and Enzo were very helpful in recommending all sorts of things to help us fill out our week. Either stop and get some basic food items upon your Saturday arrival or you can ask Annagloria to pick up some items as stores are closed on Sundays.
Directions:
The directions were fine.
Check In Out:
We had some problems coordinating the check in process with our hosts which spilled over from Saturday into Sunday. More of an inconvenience than a major problem however.
