About The Experience
Set off for a family holiday at a historic estate in the gorgeous Umbrian countryside. This restored 12th-century villa was built by the Bishop of Orvieto and once served as the fortress for the entire Mealla Valley. Lounge by the pool, treat yourself to alfresco meals, and wander the grounds, which are filled with olive trees and still house a small 12th-century church and bell tower.
Location Description

The property is located between Fabro and Orvieto, overlooking the Val di Chiana in the Umbrian countryside. The villa is 3 kilometers from the nearest village, Ficulle, where there are restaurants and a castle. Adventurous guests who wish to hike to the village can do so on a hilly 4 km/2.5-mile path through the woods. Just 18 km away is the scenic medieval town of Orvieto, which is perched atop a large volcanic rock formation with vertical cliffs and offers some of the best views in the country. The town has many shops, cafes and restaurants. The famous Gothic Duomo dates back to the 13th century and features a beautiful façade and interiors. Visit the papal palace, Etruscan ruins, and embark on a guided tour of one of the village’s many underground caves. Be sure to purchase a bottle of Orvieto’s famous Classico wine. From Orvieto, there are fast trains to Rome and Florence.

Customer Reviews

We had an amazing time there. The property is phenomenal, the house is huge, there is rooms everywhere that gives each the possibility to find a quiet place during the day. The swimming pool was perfect. And the region is really nice. Overall we would definitely go there again another time.
Enjoyed Most:
The size of the house and the swimming pool
Enjoyed Least:
Some of the beds were old and the mattresses were losing their plastic covers in small pieces. There is too many stuff (decorations and others things) all around the house, it makes the house messy. (Please note: this way of decor can be common in some of the traditional Italian homes.)
Surrounding Area:
We loved going to do wine tasting in the area. Orvietto was also an amazing city to go, specially at night.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Ficulle was the nearest town and no, it wasn't within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Here is a few things we advice to take - Bottles of water (the tap water was really not good) - Mosquito repellent - A good car. The trail going to the house from the main road is not easy to access.
We used the GPS coordinates to find the house
Check In Out:
The check in was made with the owner of the house, it was perfect.
