Location Description

The villa is ideally located in a quiet and affluent area in the heart of Saint-Remy-de-Provence. The village’s bars, cafes, restaurants and shops are a short walk from the property (200 m). Be sure to take in the popular Wednesday market. Saint Remy is only 18 km from the larger city of Avignon, home to a famous theater festival, art galleries, cultural events, gastronomic restaurants and TGV station. St Remy is conveniently situated between the Luberon, Camargue and Cevennes, and it is a 50-minute drive from the Marseille International Airport.

The fenced grounds contain a large garden with grass, trees, shrubs, heated swimming pool (12 x 6 m) and sunbeds. A pergola provides shade over the terrace, which has an outdoor dining table and barbecue. Onsite parking is available.

Main House: The villa’s three levels are connected by stairs and an elevator.
Ground Floor: The living area has a sofa, armchairs, open fireplace, TV, DVD player, CD player and doors to the garden, and the reading room has a sofa, fireplace and home cinema. The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, oven, dishwasher, American coffee maker and electric tea kettle. A dining table for eight is just outside the kitchen. There is also a wine cellar and a laundry room with a washing machine and clothes dryer. An independent bedroom, which is accessible from the outside only and is not part of the main building, features a king-size bed (180 cm, can be separated into two singles) and an ensuite bathroom with a shower, sink, toilet and hairdryer.
First Floor: There are two bedrooms, one with a king-size bed (180 cm) and one with two single beds (90 cm, can be joined to form a king-size bed). Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with a shower, sink, toilet and hairdryer. There is also a separate bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet.
Second Floor: There are two bedrooms. The first has a king-size bed(180 cm) and an ensuite bathroom with a shower, sink, toilet and hairdryer. The second bedroom, a master, has a large king-size bed (200 cm) and an ensuite bathroom with a shower, sink, toilet and hairdryer. There is an office equipped with a PC, as well as a terrace with chairs and a table.

Guest House
Ground Floor: There is a sofa with a convertible queen-size bed (160 cm), coffee table and kitchenette with an oven, gas stove and dining table for four. The bedroom has a queen-size bed (160 cm), and the bathroom features a bathtub, sink, separate toilet and hairdryer.

Overall:
We had a wonderful week - 11 family members for a big birthday celebration.
Enjoyed Most:
The position in Saint Remy, the privacy, the amenities - the bedrooms with ensuites, the outdoor table and chairs, the swimming pool and the charming gardens.
Enjoyed Least:
The bedroom and the apartment not within the main part of the building were of a lower standard. The very cramped en suite bathroom on the ground floor had a shower that would block and was in need of thorough cleaning.
Surrounding Area:
It was delightful to walk out onto Bld Victor Hugo and have everything at our fingertips: restaurants, boutique shopping, supermarket, Tourist Information Centre - the list goes on. Fun!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Some of the party went for walks but usually we drove.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring mosquito repellent if travelling during swimming season.
Check In Out:
I should have contacted the agent before leaving Avignon, or better still Australia! We had a stressful time finding the villa. Once I spoke to the property manager, all was clear.

Overall:
Perfect retreat. Being in the center of Saint-Remy we were within walking distance to many shops, restaurants, museums, weekly market, etc. It was easy to get in and out of town from this location. The high walls around the villa's beautiful gardens provided a peaceful oasis.
Enjoyed Most:
Superb location. Outside area and pool. Being right across the street from the historical center. The privacy of the bedrooms in the main house where we three couples stayed - two bedrooms on each of the upper two floors were at opposite ends of the house from each other. Plenty of alternate space to relax in. Very good appliances. Separate laundry room. Beautiful views from the bedroom windows.
Enjoyed Least:
The master bedroom and bathroom is far superior to the other bedrooms with en suite bathrooms in the main house. There were two large bedrooms with lots of closet space and two much smaller rooms which had no closets and only a rack for hanging clothes. We did go into the the separate guest house. While the upper level apartment seemed well appointed, the ground floor room was very dark and we felt fortunate that we did not need this space. WiFi was only so-so. Only two sets of keys were offered. As each couple went in different directions, each day we needed to secure another set of keys, which the property manager provided.
Surrounding Area:
Wonderful towns within an hour's scenic drive. Les Baux, Roussillon, Gordes, Village des Bories, Avignon, Villeneuve-les-Avignon, Lourmarin, Eygalieres, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Uzes, etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You are in the center of Saint-Remy on the road that encircles the historical center.
Tips or Restaurants:
You can walk to Joel Durand chocolate maker to buy chocolate and ice cream dipped in chocolate, and Le Petit Duc for biscuits. Gus, which is right across the street, was a favorite restaurant. Elevator is for luggage only.

Overall:
Everyone had a wonderful time on the vacation. We have been renting villas for the past twenty years and for the most part they have been the countryside near a small village. This time the villa was in the middle of the small town. It worked very well for us as the villa was isolated by the walls and the spacious gardens of the property.
Enjoyed Most:
The gardens and pool were beautiful, spacious and isolated. The villa was large and suitable for our needs.
Enjoyed Least:
The only complaint was that the two odd bedrooms were a bit musty.
Surrounding Area:
Being in the middle of St. Remy many restaurants were in walking distance as were ancient ruins and the van Gogh exhibit. Day trips to Avignon and sites such as the Pont du Gard were convenient.

We used GPS systems in our Autos and the only problem we had was in leaving the Airport in Marseille.
