About The Experience
Taormina, Mt. Etna, Siracusa and the coast of Sicily are easy day trips from this wonderful location. The rural setting of the villa and the large terraces provide for relaxed gatherings at the beginning and end of the day. In addition, the beautiful pool beckons on those warm days… It is hard to beat this destination!
Location Description

Close to Taormina, this villa is located just 1 km from the town of Graniti, which offers fine restaurants, food markets, and a post office. However, you need not go that far to find good food-- just down the road from the villa there is a moderately-priced, authentic Sicilian restaurant. Local sights not to miss include the lava rock gorges at Gole Alcantara (created when eruptions from Mt Eta flowed into the sea) and the beaches of Giardini Naxos. For those with sporting interests, Il Picciola golf course is 15 km away and other activities such as horseback riding, scuba diving, and boat rentals are available locally. When you arrive, the on-site manager can provide you with information about private tours to Mount Etna, the Ruins of Agrigento, the Aeolian Islands, and more. If you prefer to go it alone, there is municipal bus service to all local beaches and towns. The bus stop is 150 feet from the villa's main entrance, but buses do not run frequently so a car is recommended for the most efficient explorations.

Nearby Attractions: Graniti (restaurants, food markets), Gole Alcantara (lava gorges), Giardini Naxos (beaches), Il Picciola (golf), horseback riding, scuba diving, boat rentals, Mount Etna, the Ruins of Agrigento, the Aeolian Islands.

Exterior Description
(3 hectares) Originally constructed over 500 years ago, this 15th century villa was lovingly restored in 2001 and consists of three separate residences on different floors, of which this is one. Each residence is very private and has its own entrance. The villa sits on a hillside and views overlook the Graniti River valley, covered in orange, lemon, and almond groves. The apartments share gardens graced by 500-year old olive trees, flowers, fruit and nut trees, and multiple terraces for dining or sunbathing. The shared swimming pool (5m x 10m; 0.9m-2.7m deep, open May 1 - Oct 31) is newly built, surrounded by fountains, statuary, lounge chairs, tables, and outdoor showers. Palm trees and tropical plants complete the setting. The villa's original colonnade, characterized by grand arches, is lighted by a series of ceramic chandeliers designed expressly for the villa. The villa itself is accessed via a paved, two-lane road. There is a large, gated parking area adjacent to the villa with room for at least 10 cars.
Interior Description

Private Outside Area: Private off-street parking leads through a lovely garden area to a staircase of 30 steps. This apartment boasts multiple terraces, including one that wraps entirely around its lower floor, giving magnificent views of the surrounding mountains, the river valley, and the sea beyond. There are also multiple exterior seating areas, nooks, and hideaways. An Italianate bridge from the terrace on the fourth floor leads to private garden areas with a fountain and 4 upholstered chaise lounges.

(300 m2)
Third Floor: The apartment, the grandest residence in the villa, is accessed via a private entrance on the third floor. This apartment was the original residence of the French Baron who built the villa more than 500 years ago. There is a large living room complete with fireplace, two sofas (one converts into a bed for one adult or two children), two armchairs and a coffee table. The living room is equipped with satellite TV and a CD player. The eat-in kitchen has ample counter space as well as an oven, stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, American-style coffee maker, juicer, food processor, and washing machine/dryer. A large foyer (with adjacent WC) leads into the dining room, filled with antique furnishings and a marble dining table which seats 12. The dining room, living room, and kitchen boast 12 foot ceilings and 11-foot double doors which open onto a grand terrace. A master bedroom has a 160 cm queen-size bed with Ungaro linens and down pillows. Furnishings include large armoires, dressers, and an antique chair. The master bathroom (not ensuite), done in rare Taormina marble, has a sink, toilet, shower, and separate tub with handheld shower head.

Fourth Floor: A staircase leads from the foyer to the upper floor of the apartment. On this floor there are two large double bedrooms with 160 cm queen-size beds outfitted with Versace-inspired linens and down pillows. Each bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom decorated in Travertine Marble and Italian tile. Both bathrooms have a sink, toilet, and shower, but one also has an additional Jacuzzi tub. All bedrooms have independent climate control for heating and air conditioning.

Customer Reviews

This historic villa can be seen from miles away, perched on the hillside with all kinds of greenery around it. It is a beautiful place, created and maintained with love and pleasure by its artistic owners.
Enjoyed Most:
The location is hard to beat - close to Giardini Naxos, Taormina, Mt. Etna, and the autostrade. The outside areas are wonderful for morning coffee, reading and relaxing.
Enjoyed Least:
The road noise - but this was really our fault, because we chose the bedroom facing the road. Editor's Note: The road has been recently widened and repaved, resulting in much less traffic noise. May 2013.
Surrounding Area:
There is so much to see and do! Just up the road is a fascinating gorge and a mountain-top ancient town - very, very picturesque. Taormina and Giardini Naxos are close by, and so is Mr. Etna. Further afield, but a comfortable drive away, are Caltagirone (famous for ceramics), Ortigia Island, and Piazza Amerina. A week is too short a time to see everything!
Tips or Restaurants:
All of the restaurants we found were very good. Order seafood! We particularly liked the restaurants in Giardini Naxos and Ortigia. Be sure to try to restaurant right new door - it is great!!

The villa is lovely and Carmelo is a gracious host. His grounds are beautiful and the pool is very nice. The location is good--not far from Taormina or the highway.
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds were meticulously cared for by the gardener and the owner. It was also next door to one of the better, lesser known, restaurants in that area. The villa is well maintained and has all the amenitites.
Enjoyed Least:
There is a blind curve in front of the villa leading to the intersection and many of the cars honked so that others would know they were coming. Editor's Note: See note above.
Surrounding Area:
The villa is in a quiet area near Graniti. Across the road is a sheep farm and the mountain views were lovely. It was away from the tourist areas but close enough to get there in 15-20 minutes.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Gaggi is the nearest small town. It is probably about 2-3 km--walkable but a dangerous road to walk on. We needed a car for Sicily to get to the store and local restaurants as well as other places in Sicily.
Tips or Restaurants:
I don't remember the name of the restaurant next door but it is a very short walk and the food was very good. Usually, we were by ourselves and the owner was an enjoyable fellow. No menus but great food. La Zagara in Gaggi was also pretty good and reasonable.

It was lovely to be in a rental property that truly showed the interests and collections of the owners. Often when staying in this type of property one feels that the furnishings are the most basic and in Villa Due Angeli one knew all about the owners and they did not put away any of their favourite objects but instead proudly displayed them.
Enjoyed Most:
The owners made us feel completely at home. The section of the villa we took is more ideally suited for 3 couples as there are only 3 bedrooms.
Enjoyed Least:
Only quibble would be the proximity to the road, but given that it wasn't that heavily trafficked, it really wasn't a problem.
Surrounding Area:
Great day trips to Mount Etna and Taormina.
Tips or Restaurants:
Gaggi has a great café, Buon Café, with wonderful pastries...but be prepared to sit and enjoy the morning as it takes time to prepare a wonderful cafe doppio. We had many wonderful meals at the restaurant next door to the villa and the owner and his family are wonderful and made sure we left heartily satisfied with the meal. Delicious antipasto, wonderful grilled seafood and meats and the ricotta cake became a favourite from the first bite.
