About The Experience
Taormina, Mt. Etna, Siracusa and the coast of Sicily are easy day trips from this wonderful location. The rural setting of the villa and the large terraces provide for relaxed gatherings at the beginning and end of the day. In addition, the beautiful pool beckons on those warm days… It is hard to beat this destination!
Location Description

Close to Taormina, this villa is located just 1 km from the town of Graniti, which offers fine restaurants, food markets, and a post office. However, you need not go that far to find good food-- just down the road from the villa there is a moderately-priced, authentic Sicilian restaurant. Local sights not to miss include the lava rock gorges at Gole Alcantara (created when eruptions from Mt Eta flowed into the sea) and the beaches of Giardini Naxos. For those with sporting interests, Il Picciola golf course is 15 km away and other activities such as horseback riding, scuba diving, and boat rentals are available locally. When you arrive, the on-site manager can provide you with information about private tours to Mount Etna, the Ruins of Agrigento, the Aeolian Islands, and more. If you prefer to go it alone, there is municipal bus service to all local beaches and towns. The bus stop is 150 feet from the villa's main entrance, but buses do not run frequently so a car is recommended for the most efficient explorations.

Nearby Attractions: Graniti (restaurants, food markets), Gole Alcantara (lava gorges), Giardini Naxos (beaches), Il Picciola (golf), horseback riding, scuba diving, boat rentals, Mount Etna, the Ruins of Agrigento, the Aeolian Islands.

Exterior Description
(3 hectares) Originally constructed over 500 years ago, this 15th century villa was lovingly restored in 2001 and consists of three separate residences on different floors, of which this is one. Each residence is very private and has its own entrance. The villa sits on a hillside and views overlook the Graniti River valley, covered in orange, lemon, and almond groves. The apartments share gardens graced by 500-year old olive trees, flowers, fruit and nut trees, and multiple terraces for dining or sunbathing. The shared swimming pool (5m x 10m; 0.9m-2.7m deep, open May 1 - Oct 31) is newly built, surrounded by fountains, statuary, lounge chairs, tables, and outdoor showers. Palm trees and tropical plants complete the setting. The villa's original colonnade, characterized by grand arches, is lighted by a series of ceramic chandeliers designed expressly for the villa. The villa itself is accessed via a paved, two-lane road. There is a large, gated parking area adjacent to the villa with room for at least 10 cars.

Customer Reviews

Good. We had an enjoyable time. All facilities were as advertised.
Enjoyed Most:
The view, pool, and convenient location.
Enjoyed Least:
There was a surprising amount of street noise, although some comments on warned of that. There were a number of problems with the electricity; apparently new transformers didn't work properly. Editor's Note: City-installed electricity transformers are now functional. The public works started early in the morning, adding to the street noise. July, 2014.
Surrounding Area:
The neighboring restaurant and the close by Paradise restaurant were both very good.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Gaggi was close by but not in walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Paradise restaurant was excellent.
We used GPS. The property was easy to find.
Check In Out:
It would have been helpful to check-in earlier than 3 PM even to drop off luggage. Our flights arrived in the morning and we had a few hours to wait.

A very good week. The space is excellent and Phil and Carmelo are friendly and helpful. The villa location is also quite good, with many attractions in the immediate vicinity, and a couple of outstanding restaurants literally up and down the street.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, space, and an excellent pool area.
Enjoyed Least:
We got the sense that some of the rooms hadn't been used in a while and the beds were a little dusty. This probably wouldn't have been a problem if we had come later in the season after the villa had been used more regularly.
Surrounding Area:
Taormina, Giardini Naxos, Castelmola, and the Alcatara Gorge are very close. Mt. Etna, Catania, and Siracusa are also workable day trips. We even went to the Aeolian Islands one day (a hydrofoil ride from Milazzo).
Nearby Events or Locales:
Graniti and Gaggi are both walking distance away, although the road is narrow with blind corners and traffic, so I wouldn't recommend walking.
Tips or Restaurants:
There are two excellent restaurants a stone's throw away, one called Paradise, and the other called Casita. Paradise in particular is an outstanding example of good Sicilian cooking. Casita is literally right next door. We ate at both places on multiple occasions.
Phil and Carmelo's directions are actually quite good. GPS is generally helpful for driving in the area. But make sure the settings are set for large highways. We were routed across TINY country roads on several occasions, probably because the GPS didn't want us to have to pay (autostradas are tolled).
Check In Out:
Phil and Carmelo are very nice, welcoming, and helpful. Both check in and check out went smoothly. They even let us check out (with security deposit refund) one day in advance since we were leaving very early Saturday morning.

Great experience. Convenient to Taormina, Etna and shopping. Owners delightful and very helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
Lots of space, beautiful foliage, lemon trees to pick from. Spectacular pool for kids and adults. There were 15 family members in our group.
Enjoyed Least:
Traffic noise. Mattress in my room was a bit soft for my taste, but I slept very well. Editor's Note: The road has been recently widened and resurfaced, resulting in much less traffic noise. May 2013.
Surrounding Area:
Views, Etna, small towns to shop in. Not infested with tourists so we had an opportunity to meet and deal with ordinary people in shops.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Gaggi was not in walking distance, an inconvenience. The main reason is there are no sidewalks and the roads are very narrow so it would be hazardous to walk on the road.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant next door to the Villa was excellent. The owner speaks English and the food was typically Sicilian and very good.
Check In Out:
The owners gave a clear and useful introduction. They made checkout very easy.
