About The Experience
Immerse yourself in the Victorian-era atmosphere of this Tuscany villa rental, an excellent choice for a family holiday, full of period furniture and elegant decor. Surrounded by olive trees, rolling hills, and the vineyards of Tuscany, you will be at your leisure to cool off in the private pool, enjoy a five-course dinner prepared by a chef, chat with your companions over a game of billiards, or organize a day outing to Florence or Siena. Whether you spend a week or a month at this Tuscany villa rental, you will have no shortage of things to do, places to see, or ways to relax.
Location Description

The closest village to this villa is Bagnano, which has a small food market. Just under six kilometers is the town of Sciano, with a food shop and pizzeria. Barberino Val d'Elsa offers additional grocery markets, bank, post office, restaurants, and cafes. Make sure to visit Certaldo, which has all the necessities combined with small-town charm. Explore Certaldo Alta, the old medieval village, and if you find yourself traveling in July, enjoy the Renaissance festival, complete with street artists, actors, musicians, and more. There are train connections from Certaldo to Siena and Florence, but there is no bus service from the villa to Certaldo.

Nearby Attractions: The medieval hamlets of Sant’Appiano and Linari, just a few kilometers from Barberino Val d’Elsa, are worth a visit. The parish Church of Sant’Appiano is referred to by many as the oldest church in the Chianti region. The small and charming village of Petrognano, with ruins of the town of Semifonte destroyed in 1202 by the Florentine, is a short distance away as well.

Overall:
Great week.
Enjoyed Most:
Views.
Enjoyed Least:
We expected that the villa would be better stocked with supplies. Cooking spices, toilet paper, and dish soap all had to be purchased.
Surrounding Area:
Scenery.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo or Barberino Val d' Elsa... and no, not in walking distance.

Overall:
We enjoyed having all the space we needed for our large group. We loved sitting by the pool and enjoying the view. We cooked out at the grill and ate breakfast on the patio as well. We had great family time in the big dining room the night that Beatrice and her friend cooked for us.
Enjoyed Most:
It was a "true villa" experience. The house was well cared for and provided enough privacy for all the 15 members of our party. There were so many living areas that it took us a while before we quit getting disoriented. The outdoor space was wonderful for our May visit.
Enjoyed Least:
The location was quite remote. Our GPS took us past the property. We actually walked around behind the villa via an overgrown path before finding it. Beatrice was charming, but spoke very little English. She preferred communicating by text messages.
Surrounding Area:
The spectacular countryside was breathtaking. Our cameras worked overtime until we realized we could never capture the magnificence of the vistas except in our hearts.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There were several tiny hamlets, but none them were within walking distance except Bagnano where we walked for dinner at Wilma's one evening. If you have large group like ours was, reservations were necessary almost everywhere we went.
Tips or Restaurants:
We followed some of the recommendations of previous villa guest and tried two that we agreed were fun as well as delicious: Osteria Das di Chianti was an unforgettable experience due to a very animated and entertaining waiter there named Manuele. Also the view and food were excellent up in Certaldo Alto at Taverna L'Antica Fonte.
Directions:
The directions can be quite different depending on your point of origin. Some of our kids used Google to find the place and were directed down dirt roads part of the way.

Overall:
Our group consisted of nine people and we used five bedrooms. The villa was amazing and we enjoyed EVERY minute we were there! What a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the Tuscany Region!
Enjoyed Most:
Everything! The villa is so large that we never felt crowded. There were several sitting areas where we could gather and visit or we could find a quiet area and be by ourself. It was so quiet and peaceful, both inside and outside.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing!
Surrounding Area:
It was beautiful! The views were fantastic!
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Certaldo which was about a 10 minute drive from the villa. The roads were very narrow and winding, but after a week, we were used to driving in them.
Tips or Restaurants:
We couldn't find the coffee maker, so we made "Cowboy Coffee" each morning. Speaking of kitchens... it was very cozy. Large room with table and chairs to sit at while we watched the "cooks of the day" prepare meals!
Directions:
We used a GPS and still had a little difficulty.
Check In Out:
Both were VERY easy. Beatrice met us at the villa the day we checked in and let us move in early after the cleaning was finished. She showed us the villa and tried to explain everything, although her English was limited and our Italian was also limited. The only problem we ran into was the trash detail, but we managed to figure it out about two days later. Our checkout was even easier and our deposit was returned with no hassle.
