Overall we loved our stay at Casa Berto. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
The location - in the hills of Chianti - is gorgeous. The property's history is also very intriguing. I wish I had read the book before Wednesday and could have asked if there was a tour of the property available.
Enjoyed Least:
The description of the kitchen in Casa Berto leads one to assume it is a fully functioning kitchen. However, there is no oven. This put a damper on our ability to make meals after we completed our daily adventures. There is only so much you can cook on a stove top.
Surrounding Area:
As stated, the Chianti area is absolutely gorgeous. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for the traditional Tuscany landscape. We weren't that far from Florence or Siena and were able to go to both cities, explore to our hearts content and return back to the property the same day.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I believe the nearest small town was Bacciano. A number of our party walked to this town for groceries. There was also a winery in the opposite direction that some of our party went to and picked up excellent Chiantis.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely bring spices (salt, pepper, oregano, etc.). Also, the stores close between 1 and 4 p.m. on Saturdays. If you do nothing else, plan on stopping at the grocery store before they close if you are arriving to the property on a Saturday.
To be fair, we had no problems locating the property using our phone GPS. Once the drivers found the property, they had no problems locating it again. However, there are about three to four different ways to access the property depending on where you are coming from.
Check In Out:
We arrived a couple of hours earlier than the check-in time and I thought we would have to wait. However, the staff was very welcoming and didn't blink an eye upon our arrival. We were checked in, escorted to the apartment and everything was explained in our native tongue. The check-out process was just as easy and accommodating.

Just peaceful and gorgeous. Everything I wanted it to be.
Enjoyed Most:
The bells ringing. The view. The quaint villa. The huge castle. The dinner. Just too much to put into one favorite thing.
Enjoyed Least:
There was a huge fireplace, but nothing to light it. However, Giuseppe was kind of enough to get it going.
Surrounding Area:
The Grotto.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring matches for the fireplace. Bring towels.
Google Earth helped us out quite a bit.
Check In Out:
No. Everything was great!
