Questions and Answers From Our Clients

Q: we are very keen on this apartment, the only concerns us is the equipped outdoor area. Is this for that apartment only or is it not outside the apartment. we have young children and we will be wanting them to go to bed whilst we sit out.
Also is it excessively hot as there is no air con?
A: We did not use the equipped outdoor area. I don't know where it is, but it is probably within a few hundred meters. The apartment was not too hot when we were there in September. It was pleasant to sleep with the windows open. It was a wonderful place to stay in the vineyards and olive orchards.
Q: Does Castella 14 have an outdoor area with table and chairs to sit out at night?
A: It had a stone table with benches for a lovely evening viewing of the olive groves and vineyards across the road. We typically ate indoors but sat outside til dark eating cheese and olives and sampling the local wines!
Q: Were the rooms quiet at night? Were the bathrooms equipped well, enough towels, TP, soap, etc? How about towels for the pool?
A: Hi Jan,
Yes, the rooms were quiet - it might be a bit noisier in the summer as everyone will have their windows open but it is a lovely setting. Yes, the bathrooms were great, don't remember any problems with toiletries but this being Europe, I would always have a backup!!! AND you can walk to a little store up the hill about a mile or so away. When we were there the kitchen did not have an oven so any cooking we did was on the stove top. The ppol was not open since we were there in April. They do a a website www.montegufoni.it (on the home page you can translate it into English). I'm sure you could send them an e-mail and ask!! We really liked the property and the views are spectacular!! Enjoy!

A: Hi Jan! The unit is separate from the other homes (the villas were the servants quarters for the castle) -- so there is no wall to wall noise. However, while we were there, the unit near ours -- and directly down the slope from us -- was occupied by a very loud family. Luckily, there was only one evening where they partied until the wee hours, and they were only there for a few days of our week. The main pool was crowded and loud on one of the days as well, but there is another pool that is a lot more private.
There were enough towels and the bathroom was spacious. TP and soap were good, but I can't remember about shampoo. I can't recall the situation with towels at the pool. It doesn't stick out, but we did not have a problem with towels... so I assume there were either extra in the rooms or there were some at the pools :-)
The kitchen/living room/dining room was just one rustic and charming room -- we never spent much time on the sofa and two chairs in the "living room" -- however, all being said, it was VERY charming and we loved our rooms and the castle. The kitchen table is long and we spent many an evening chatting and drinking wine at the table...
Hope that helps!
Lisa

Overall:
It was fun to be staying at a castle. The location was good. The place itself was neat and clean and for our needs it was fine.
Enjoyed Most:
Walking around the property was enjoyable. Finding the grotto with its statuary just by chance was fun.
Enjoyed Least:
Without sounding too grumpy, I guess I was expecting to have more privacy. Others' tables and chairs outside were very close. The indoor lighting was minimal at night, the kitchen was basic, and we would have liked to have had more hot water for showers.
Surrounding Area:
Very pretty area. Throughout the trip I never got tired of looking at the olive groves and grape vineyards and the wonderful castles and fortified towns.
Tips or Restaurants:
For our last night, we tried the restaurant just 15 minutes away and it was excellent.
Directions:
Thank heavens for GPS.

Overall:
Wonderful. Wonderful. A magnificent castle with out-buildings in beautiful countryside. We rented 5 units - all in the out-buildings. I entered the same comments for all 5 units.
Enjoyed Most:
The old castle is from a movie set. Beautiful. The out-buildings are tastefully blended in.
Enjoyed Least:
Kitchens were a little primitive, but quite adequate. The in-house restaurant seemed expensive.
Surrounding Area:
The views and the clean air.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was about a 15-minute easy walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Eating out or eating in cooking are both good options.
Directions:
There are 2 entrances to the estate. One is easier than the other. Look around.
Check In Out:
Keyholder is in the out-buildings after hours.
