Customer Reviews

The location was very good. Easy driving to some of the towns we wanted to visit, such as Pisa, Lucca and Siena. The beds were comfortable and the villa was roomy for 4 people.
Enjoyed Most:
The restaurant was superb. The chef, Simona, was delightful as was our waiter. The restaurant has a nice vibe and there was a lot of interaction as people shared their stories of what they had done in the area. A delightful mix of Americans, Canadians, Brits and Australians.
Enjoyed Least:
The villa itself needs some work. The shower handle and shower door were both broken. The stove had to be lighted manually. In order to use the microwave, you had to set it on top of the stove so you could plug it in.
Surrounding Area:
The proximity to some of the cities in the area, and the proximity to the train station in Montelupo. The area itself was beautiful and picturesque - all rolling hills and green fields.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Baccaino. Yes, within walking distance but not much there.
Tips or Restaurants:
Next time I would bring salt and pepper because those were quite expensive and we didn't need much. Il Fico Lesso in Montespertoli was a good restaurant for pizza and calzones. Jack's Bar in Montespertoli was a nice little neighborhood gathering place.
The directions were very good.
Check In Out:
Both were quite quick and easy.

Very peaceful and pleasant with spectacular scenery that exceeded our expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
Very convenient to Florence and the entire Chianti region. The history of the castle as well as beautiful scenery around it were quite enjoyable. The castle itself and its gardens were very interesting to stroll through and explore.
Enjoyed Least:
We noticed a slight chemical smell, perhaps insecticide, in the unit. The stove top was somewhat difficult to light.
Surrounding Area:
Scenery at and around the castle as well as both the restaurant in the castle and the restaurant in Baccaiano. There was also a small winery and olive oil factory nearby in Montagnana which was a pleasant side trip. The food and wines of the area are terrific as is the olive oil.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Baccaiano, the nearest town, was within walking distance, although we only drove there. Nearest large town was Montespertoli which was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The small restaurant in nearby Baccaiano was good, although somewhat difficult to get into without advance reservations. The food served at the restaurant at the castle was also quite good. Our primary regret was not being able to spend more time at the castle to enjoy the area more. We found the services of Italia Roadrunners, recommended in the handbook from to be extremely helpful in planning our various day trips.

We could not have chosen a better location for our first visit to Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting of the property within the grounds of a historical castle added extra interest to our stay, particularly since there were links to historical paintings within the Galleria Uffizi in Florence.
Enjoyed Least:
The terraced sitting area was down a flight of steps and not convenient for taking food and drink outside. The setting near a road meant traffic passed regularly from early morning and occasionally disturbed us.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery and character of the countryside surrounding the property.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Bacaiano was the nearest village, about 1 kilometer, and could be walked to down a fairly steep hill. It had a small general shop where fresh bread could be purchased daily as well as other provisions, a tobacconists and post office, 2 bars and a fish restaurant.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ensure you bring mosquito repellant, and pool towels. Do not miss the opportunity to visit the Leaning Tower at Pisa. Although about an hour's drive from the property, it is the most spectacular experience to climb the Tower and view the rooftops of Pisa City.
