(28,000 m2)
This beautiful, 16th century farmhouse, located at an elevation of 600 meters, offers spectacular views of the Sieve Valley. The seven-acre property is a blend of informal landscaped area and gardens, wildflower-covered meadows with grazing sheep, and a wooded area with olives, grapes and many fruit trees. It is very private and secluded, even though there are other properties on the hillside. To access the house there are three kilometers of country road, followed by one kilometer of maintained, winding dirt road. There is a swimming pool (12 m x 6 m) and plenty of outdoor furniture: a large table and chairs for dining on the terrace, a gas barbecue, lounges and a table and chairs by the pool – all with umbrellas for shade. The pool is open from early May to late September. The owners live in the apartment under the main part of the house.

Questions and Answers From Our Clients

Q: Was this property too far a drive to Florence, Siena and/or San Gimignano?
A: Too far?? No. We have three children under 10 and too far can be 10 minutes or 3 hours depending on how they are behaving!! For us, we stayed a week at Casale Olmo and decided to do day-trips to Pisa, Siena and San Gimignano. We arrived on Saturday and scheduled day-trips for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. In general you are in the car for 2 hours to get somewhere (except Florence which is much closer and you can even take the train into the city). For us it worked out great because we left after breakfast and usually arrived at our destination late morning. Did some site-seeing, walking the towns, churches, museums, etc. Had a late lunch and then more site-seeing. Ended every trip with a gelato!! Then back in the car for the drive back to Casale Olmo or dinner in Londa. Couple of suggestions, Pisa is worth only staying for the tower. The rest of the town was not impressive. We always had one other site/town/castle/vineyard as a "backup" in case we wanted or needed to stop on the way to or from a destination. And another note, we always felt the extra drive was worth it when we returned to Casale Olmo. We went in late June and in each town it would get hot and a bit muggy. We'd return to the villa and the sky was clear, the air seemed fresher and it was always a comfortable temperature. Maybe it was us in La-la land. But we all noticed the difference.
Q: How many vineyards are nearby? Did the owner have personal connections with all the vineyards?
A: I am not sure of the number of vineyards nearby but let's just say there are plenty around to visit and enjoy. The owner did have personal connections with many of the vineyards but more importantly, he was instrumental in arranging and hosting several outstanding events. For example, he and his wife scheduled and joined our family for a lunch at a restaurant that is owned and operated on a vineyard. He knew the chef who personally prepared each course and we had a different wine perfectly matching each course. It was an amazing and memorable lunch for all of us including our young children. The owner also took my wife and I on a wine tasting while the owners wife spent the afternoon with our children. We of course paid him extra for his time and picked up the cost of all the meals. They can be as involved as you like or will leave you alone. It is up to you. For our family Casale Olmo was magical.

Enjoyed Most:
The property is gorgeous and nicely furnished.
Enjoyed Least:
NO SCREENS on the windows. Website says that the windows have screens. Editor's Note: In fact, the owner has screens for all of the windows and will put them up if requested.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Londa is the nearest small town. It is definitely not within walking distance. Too dangerous to walk down the narrow lane from the villa to the road leading to town.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owners are fantastic hosts. They have furnished the villa with everything that you could need or want. They are extremely friendly and full of knowledge about the local areas.
