About The Experience
Everything is within walking distance of this Tuscany holiday apartment in Arezzo, the city in which the movie "Life is Beautiful," starring Roberto Benigni, was filmed. Not only is it a great place to stay, it is also special for its low prices! Spend your time exploring the small shops and sampling excellent Italian cuisine from the restaurants around this Tuscany budget apartment. Alternately, you can drive around the area or take the train to Florence or Rome.
Location Description

This charming apartment is conveniently located in the center of Arezzo where the acclaimed 1997 movie "La Vita e' Bella," starring Roberto Benigni, was filmed. The apartment faces Piazza Vasari and is within easy walking distance of a lovely public park and the train station (5 minutes). Once one of the most important Etruscan cities, today Arezzo is beautiful for an array of architecture spanning centuries, from Etruscan ruins to the Roman amphitheatre and the Medici Fortress. The first weekend of each month brings a popular antique fair, while annually there is a festival called "Joust of the Saracens," where all of the citizens dress in medieval attire and knights representing each part of the city charge at a target representing a Saracen king. The area is also well-situated for day trips throughout Tuscany. Florence can be reached in 30 minutes by train; a train to Rome takes an hour and ten minutes. Horseback riding (5 km) and tennis facilities (2 km) are available within the vicinity. A parking garage is located near this rental.

Customer Reviews

Very positive. Spacious apartment that gave a feel for being in the old town. Accessible to the area.
Enjoyed Most:
Location was excellent with proximity to the Piazza Grande and the old town shops and restaurants. Also, the vintage feeling of the apartment and its vaulted stone ceilings and original fresco. The city is interesting and lively without tons of tourists. The Piero della Francesco frescoes are amazing. Restaurants were good and accessible. The owner is friendly and helpful.
Enjoyed Least:
The lack of light given the small windows and minimal lighting fixtures other than the kitchen. The bedroom and living room need much better lighting to feel more comfortable and inviting. The view of the parking lot is a detraction.
Surrounding Area:
Proximity to the old town and to the park which is so close. Ease of finding good restaurants. Ease of getting to the train and bus station for travel to Cortona and other hill towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Short bus ride to Cortona. Old town of Arezzo around the corner of the apartment. Other small towns within an hour ride.
Tips or Restaurants:
Restaurants - La Torre di Gnicci, La Vita Bella for breakfast, La Casentino

Very good. The Vita Bella apartment is well-located, within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, the train and bus stations in Arezzo. The neighborhood is quiet, even though it is just off the main piazza. There was a lot of "local color" and the people were friendly.
Enjoyed Most:
Being met at the train station by the owner, who personally took us to the apartment and who showed us how things worked, e.g., kitchen appliances, etc. Riccardo also made several telephone calls on our behalf regarding a lost wallet while in Rome the preceding week.
Enjoyed Least:
We missed having a microwave oven in the kitchen. Maybe that's just an American "thing." We also suggested to the owner that several doors didn't close easily in the bathroom and closet, and that he might install a shower curtain in the bathroom.
Surrounding Area:
As everyone knows, the Tuscany Region is beautiful for all the obvious reasons, i.e., landscapes, history, food, and climate.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in the central part of Arezzo. Walking to places we wanted to go was no problem.
If the owner had not met us at the train station - a truly nice touch, we would have taken a taxi, as the apartment was a little too far away to find it by walking with luggage.
Check In Out:
Suggested to the owner that he make the housekeeping directions, restaurant, etc. recommendations more prominent, such as putting them on the kitchen table where guests are sure to see them.

We had an excellent overall experience in Arezzo and at Vita Bella.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was extraordinary. It was in an old, walled city. It was not a bucolic country setting. We did not want that. We wanted an authentic urban experience.
Enjoyed Least:
It was a little chilly for late March and the heat was a bit temperamental.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the City of Arezzo. Our best meal was 50 feet from our door. We were surrounded by art, museums, churches, stores and people.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were IN the small city of Arezzo. We walked around extensively and used our rental car only for excursions outside the City limits.
Tips or Restaurants:
You cannot park a car at Vita Bella but it is easy to park at the municipal lot outside the walled city. It is about a 15 walk to the lot but it is well worth it. We never tired of the beautiful walk. Do not fail to visit Osteria del Borghicciolo, La Torre di Gnicche, Miva or the Trattoria Il Saraceno for great food.
Our landlord met us at the Arezzo train station in a snow storm. He is a wonderful, friendly and energetic man who was most helpful in orienting us to Arezzo and the region.
