Customer Reviews

Overall:
Beautiful views of the countryside. Very Tuscan rural villa. Quiet and restful place.
Enjoyed Most:
The view.
Enjoyed Least:
The pool area. No mattress on the plastic sun loungers. The grass around the pool was not mowed. No kettle. Just a coffee machine. Should be specified so we could bring a travel one.
Surrounding Area:
Villa very well situated to explore Tuscany.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo Alto.
Tips or Restaurants:
Kettle and mosquito repellant.

Genevieve, August

Overall:
Wonderful, relaxing time in a beautiful home, in a beautiful setting. Truly a home away from home.
Enjoyed Most:
Loved the rustic Tuscan style and decor, and the setting was pristine and rural. Even the bed was comfortable!
Enjoyed Least:
Unfortunately, the clothes dryer was having issues the entire time we were there, which impacted the amount of laundry we and our friends had hoped to do there. It kept giving the message that the filter was clogged, even when it wasn't.
Surrounding Area:
We stayed here to be in striking distance of many of the small, ancient, hilltop villages in Tuscany, and we were not disappointed. Each day of our seven-day stay we struck out in our car in a different direction for a new adventure. It was so wonderful to come "home" to the same comfortable place each night for a relaxing evening. The Tuscan countryside is absolutely beautiful picturesque and memorable.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano was the nearest town, yes, it was within a (long) walking distance, although we didn't walk there. We only drove there one night, to the pizzeria (which was fantastic!). There wasn't much else to see or do in Sciano. Certaldo, however, is a little bit larger town, but a bit farther away, and definitely worth the trip. Don't miss the old portion of the city!
Tips or Restaurants:
The closest restaurant, a pizzeria, is just a few miles away, in Sciano, and it was wonderful! It was such a surprise to find such a terrific restaurant out in the middle of nowhere, and also to find out that it is so busy! It was packed the night we went there, and since we had no reservations, we had to wait a few minutes to be seated! We had read the earlier reviews about this villa from previous renters, and were thus forewarned of a few things we needed to bring, so I concur with the following: zip-lock food storage bags (all sizes), matches, laundry soap and dryer sheets, sugar for coffee, paper towels, bathroom and kitchen hand soap. We shopped for groceries a few times while we were there so we eventually wound up with everything we needed that we may not have brought, but generally speaking, the villa was completely livable when we arrived the things we bought were mostly personal preference.
Directions:
We attempted to use a combination of GPS and the directions that were We managed to navigate with GPS all the way to the little town of Sciano, but it didn't recognize the address on our rental agreement, so we had to call the owner to meet us at the pizzeria and escort us the last mile or two. It worked out fine, however, and the owner wasn't at all annoyed that she had to come and get us, thankfully.

Kathy, October

Overall:
We had a wonderful time at this property. WE PICKED IT BECAUSE OF ITS LOCATION! Near so many wonderful places! The expatriate owner Elizabeth is wonderful and WANTS to be a resource.
Enjoyed Most:
Sitting on the veranda with a bottle (s) of wine and antipasto.
Enjoyed Least:
We love to cook and, therefore, love a gourmet kitchen. This one was more than adequate but not gourmet. One thing I have learned is to buy one really nice knife at the beginning of every trip and use it! It is impossible for rental properties to maintain great knives and I don't expect them.
Surrounding Area:
We recommend Tenuta Torciano Winery www.torciano.com Reserve for a wine tasting.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo ... and it is not within walking distance. Be sure to take the funicular up to Certaldo Alto.
Tips or Restaurants:
Well, I mentioned buying a knife and we arrived with matches and mosquito coils based on other reviews. Ahh, the weather was just such that there were no mosquitos, and and we didn't use the pool. Bring a few bars of soap and your own shampoo.
Directions:
We had a GPS and the good directions and found it!!
Check In Out:
Everything went very well.

Bruce, June

Overall:
Wonderful stay with a perfect location. Elizabeth was exteremly helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the view and peace and quiet. It was among the best rentals we have had in Europe.
Enjoyed Least:
Loved the property, though the dryer was tempermental.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed how easy it was to get to different cities from this location. I really enjoyed early mornings on the porch.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. It was not within walking distance
Tips or Restaurants:
Rental is well equipped.
Directions:
Present directions a little overwhelming in detail. It would be helpful to note that most of them do not start until you reach Certaldo and that the rental is actually just outside of Sciano.
Check In Out:
Check in/out very straightforward. No surprises.

Leslie, May

Overall:
Outstanding in all respects.
Enjoyed Most:
The condition of the villa, the bathrooms, kitchen and view.
Enjoyed Least:
Bathrooms were a little dark.
Surrounding Area:
It was peaceful and beautiful. Quiet and scenic. Good location and easy access for day tripping.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano was a town of about 25 people and a restaurant. Could have walked there.
Tips or Restaurants:
Fully functional villa. Just bring oneself.
Directions:
Not sure that directions to property can be improved. It is quite hidden and there are some back roads. Our hostess met us in Certaldo once we could no longer follow directions. That is the best way for entry to the property.
Check In Out:
Check in/out was a breeze. Elizabeth was quite accommodating.

Eric, May

Overall:
We loved our home for the week. Elizabeth was so wonderful and welcoming. We enjoyed the fireplace and loved our outdoor terrac, especially for al fresco dining. BBQ was awesome too. Wish we'd been there in the warm summer months when we could have used the pool!
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the veranda and the fireplace - great views. Very spacious.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was a bit small as we all cooked and would gather in the kitchen.
Surrounding Area:
Gorgeous landscapes - some wonderful restaurants. Accessible to many places for day trips.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo - (not really walking distance)
Tips or Restaurants:
The most beautiful restaurant I've ever been in was Il Paese dei Campanelli! Bring matches! Impossible to purchase them at a local grocery store - must go to a specialty shop that sells tabacco.
Directions:
We used a GPS, but the directions were sufficient. That said - it's a bit hidden, but we managed.
Check In Out:
Very casual, which is how we liked it. Elizabeth offered us a warm welcome - and made herself available to us, if needed. She really left us alone and we enjoyed the times that we did see her. She also offered some good restaurant suggestions.

Suzanne, November

Overall:
Wonderful time! Elizabeth met us and introduced us to the various features of the property.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and views from the veranda.
Enjoyed Least:
The dryer only worked on the highest setting. Editor's Note: The dryer has been repaired and is fully functional. October, 2015
Surrounding Area:
Certaldo Alto is a lovely hill town that the tourist books do not mention. Absolutely lovley! We also loved day trips to Siena, Volterra, Moltepulciano, Florence, etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. No, we did not walk and would not recommend doing so.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't miss Certaldo Alto. Lovely!! The restaurants Elizabeth suggests are quite good. You can't go wrong.
Directions:
We did use a GPS. We still needed to call Elizabeth, but discovered we were close. All of Italy is a bit of a maze. But call Elizabeth and she will assist you.
Check In Out:
Check in and out was wonderful. Not a problem.

Barbara, October

Overall:
Had a wonderful time! Elizabeth was gracious.
Enjoyed Most:
Location and quiet. Great getaway if you are looking to lose yourself.
Enjoyed Least:
We were rather cold at night... especially in the upstairs bedrooms. Dryer did not work properly. If we put clothes in on high, we had some luck.
Surrounding Area:
Certaldo Alto was fabulous! A hidden gem we had not expected.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. No, it was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Osteria Antica in Certaldo Alto was lovely. Bring matches. You can make a fire, but there are no matches. Matches are only available at tobbaco shops, so we had no fire until the end of our stay to chase away the cold.
Directions:
We did use GPS. But we still needed to call Elizabeth and found we were close to our destination. If you don't have GPS in Tuscany, you are out of luck. Roads are not always in the direction you think you are going. So use a good GPS device to get where you are going.
Check In Out:
All went well.

Barbara, October

Overall:
Villa Sella is a warm, welcoming home. Everything we needed for a month-long visit was provided. Elizabeth, the owner, is extremely helpful and addressed anything that came up immediately. The back porch is lovely with lots of room for meals and relaxing.
Enjoyed Most:
All of the rooms are very comfortable and beautifully decorated. We loved the outdoor space and the back porch. The property is in a wonderful, central location to enjoy Tuscany.
Surrounding Area:
There are great restaurants in the Certaldo area and it is convenient to highways. The surrounding scenery is so beautiful and Certaldo Alto is a fun place to visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano. No
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed La Saletta in Certaldo Centro and Osteria di Casa Chianti in the country.
Directions:
We used a GPS and had rented here last year.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out is very easy. Elizabeth is wonderful to her guests, providing everything for a wonderful experience.

Joan, October

Overall:
We had a wonderful experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The amenities and decorating were first class.
Surrounding Area:
Quiet with great views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't expect to find a restaurant on a Monday in Certaldo. Most of town shuts down.
Directions:
Definitely use a GPS system. We resorted to using Google maps on our phones.
Check In Out:
Elizabeth made check in and check out easy. Great hostess!

Garry , September

Overall:
Wonderful experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful views of the Tuscan countryside.
Surrounding Area:
Excellent location for day trips to neighbouring small Tuscan towns.

Certaldo - not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely see Certaldo Alto.

Nisha, August

Overall:
We are returned customers to Villa Sella because we found it the PERFECT Tuscan getaway!
Enjoyed Most:
Its location, architecture, and classic beauty--both inside the villa and in the surrounding Tuscan countryside.
Enjoyed Least:
The dryer didn't work properly either time we were there.
Surrounding Area:
The villa is nestled perfectly among classic towns. The train runs through our town, so we could hop on the train to go anywhere, though we drove to most places. We certainly enjoyed our town of Certaldo Alto and Maroni's Pizza place.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Well, maybe 4 hilly miles. Easy drive!
Tips or Restaurants:
Pizzeria Maroni's and a FABULOUS dinner farm called Il Paese dei Campanelli.
Directions:
No problem with the directions provided. We did use a GPS for other sites, but our last trip we didn't even request a GPS. It happened to come with the car this time.

Rebecca, July

Overall:
A beautiful experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The views.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful farmland. Friendly, helpful people.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. Not quite walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Marino's Pizzaria is the best place to eat and closest to the villa.
Directions:
Use Google maps to trace your directions. 429 S is tricky to find as it runs parralel to 429 R, which is a regional road.

Vito , July

Overall:
The villa was beyond our expectations. Lovely views of the rolling Tuscan hills everyday. The pool was terrific after touring the many hill top towns close by. The outside patio was wonderful. We went with our adult children and it was the trip of a lifetime for us all.
Enjoyed Most:
Number one was the view! The rooms and overall place was clean and very comfortable. There were actually 4 full bathrooms which worked out great. Very nice kitchen and the private pool the best!!
Surrounding Area:
The scenery and the close by medieval hill top towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. Not in walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Elizabeth gives a good list of restaurants close by but the one we loved the most was Pizzeria Maroni which is a local restaurant with the best pasta and pizza ever!!The owner is very nice and it is a busy place.
Directions:
It is not easy getting around at first but the directions were better than the GPS.
Check In Out:
Check in and out was all a breeze and Elizabeth was a wonderful host, always checking on the pool and to see if we needed anything. She left us alone at the same time.

Debbie, July

Overall:
Fantastic time. Great location. Million dollar view.
Enjoyed Most:
View and location. Owner always available to help in any way.
Surrounding Area:
Certaldo and Certaldo Alto is a great town only 4km away. San Gimignano and Siena are very close, Florence a 1 hour train ride away.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo--not walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ceiling fans in every room, screens everywhere. These are not listed on the RentVillas site and were a plus! Bring translation book if you want to go to the supermarket.
Directions:
Directions were excellent.

Steven, June

Overall:
We had a terrific visit to Villa Sella. It was relaxing and quiet, had all the amenities we expected and required, and was very picturesque.
Enjoyed Most:
The views from the loggia were unbelievable.
Enjoyed Least:
Personally for me, the bed in the master bedroom was a little uncomfortable. However, this is a matter of preference as I prefer a soft bed and this was very hard.
Surrounding Area:
Villa Sella is about equidistant from Siena, Firenze and Pisa, and there are several small towns like San Gimingnano, Certaldo and Volterra which are very picturesque and fun to visit. There's also a great pizzeria restaurant very close by.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Villa Sella is in Sciano, which has one great restaurant but nothing else, and it is within walking distance (watch out for cars, you have to walk on very windy roads). Certaldo is the nearest town with any real stores, and it is 10 minutes by car.
Tips or Restaurants:
It's a long way driving to even the nearby towns. The owner knows a local driver with a 7 pax van who can be hired for the days to take you to various towns (even Florence) and it's sooo worth it to be driven around (like you can enjoy the wine!). Plan to spend a day just sitting and enjoying the pool and the loggia. Bring a good map!
Directions:
So, both of us driving there got lost. A lot. The problem is not so much the directions as the almost complete lack of road signs that match up to whatever the GPS tells you. The owner was very helpful and gracious in retrieving us when called. My best advice would be to a) make sure you have a working cell phone before trying to find this place yourself. b) call the owner once you get off the A1 near Florence. c) have at least one GPS. We had a rental car provided GPS and an iPhone GPS, they were at odds on every trip. And we still got lost driving around.
Check In Out:
Elizabeth was wonderful and very flexible with both check in and check out. We were surprised by the 150 Euro cleaning fee, though upon checking back it was in the fine print.

Rob, June

Overall:
The experience was excellent! We loved the property, the view, the privacy of having our own pool! The set up of the villa was absolutely perfect.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the views and the privacy. We also liked the way that the villa was set up so that all three families had their privacy with each bedroom having an en suite bathroom. Additionally, there was an additional 4th bathroom on the lower level. We also loved working with Elizabeth....she is fabulous and extremely helpful!!!
Surrounding Area:
We loved being in Tuscany with the rolling hills. We also loved the fact that we were not in the city, but could enjoy the local area. We walked to a local eatery and enjoyed using our Italian to communicate.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. It was about 2 1/2 miles away. The town itself was not within easy walking distance only because of the windy roads.
Tips or Restaurants:
Elizabeth was absolutely fabulous with ideas for dining, shopping, etc. The items that were listed on the sheet provided by RentVillas were extremely helpful!
Directions:
We used a combination of GPS and the directions that were provided by Elizabeth.
Check In Out:
Check in/check out process was very easy.

Donna, May

Overall:
It was fantastic!
Enjoyed Most:
The house was very cozy, but the owner Elizabeth was the best! She offered to pick up some guests at the train station and help in ensuring the surprise factor for another guest!
Enjoyed Least:
The steep cost for cleaning that was taken out of the deposit. Editor's Note: A five-person cleaning team assists the owner in rendering the villa spotless in preparation for each arrival; the cleaning fee goes directly towards paying the cleaners, professional laundering of all linens, and pool maintenance.
Surrounding Area:
Its proximity to such wonderful, small, medieval towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo is not exactly within walking distance, but very close.
Tips or Restaurants:
Just ask Elizabeth...she was of great help!
Directions:
We used a GPS and also used the typed directions emailed in the voucher as a back-up.
Check In Out:
Ask and you will probably receive! One couple checked in before the posted time but Elizabeth ensured us that no fee would be charged.

Laura, March

Overall:
What a dream....everything was perfect.
Enjoyed Most:
American amenities, Italian charm.
Surrounding Area:
Central to everything in Tuscany.
Tips or Restaurants:
Talk to Elizabeth the owner, she has great information and is eager to share.
Directions:
Directions are great, no improvement needed. Yes we used GPS.

Liz, October

Veronica, October

Overall:
It was absolutely outstanding. Elizabeth was great and very accommodating!
Enjoyed Most:
Everything. The location was the best. Being so close to so many hilltop towns and amenities.
Enjoyed Least:
The barking dogs and the farmer's tractor plowing all day and into the evening. But hey, we were in the country so it comes with the territory.
Surrounding Area:
Certaldo, Voterra, Greve in Chianti and the beauty of the countryside!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
We didn't walk but if we had to it would have been to Sciano.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pizza Maroni and Wilmas were the best!! Bring your own CDs for the CD player.

Yes, we used a GPS and it was invaluable!

Yes, do exactly as Elizabeth recommends.
Directions:
Directions were very good. Yes, we used our iPhone maps.
Check In Out:
Very pleasant.

Robert , October

Overall:
Villa Sella is an amazing getaway and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The serenity of the surroundings are what one craves after a day of touring and the pool was a lifesaver. Amazing linens and towels made one feel spoiled.
Enjoyed Most:
The location of Villa Sella is perfect. The views are unparalleled and Elizabeth is simply lovely.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was a little smaller than we would have liked as we are all avid cooks and it was definitely a squash and a squeeze.
Surrounding Area:
The villa is perfectly located to explore the surrounding Tuscan countryside. Nothing is too far away.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo is very close by- but not within walking distance. Sciano is close by and could be walked to but there is very little there!
Tips or Restaurants:
Elizabeth provides a great list of local restaurants. We did a lot of cooking at home for dinners and had big lunches out.
Directions:
We used a GPS and it got us there perfectly.
Check In Out:
Everything was perfect.

Beth, September

Overall:
We had a wonderful time. The property is within easy distance of the train station, supermarket, and many vineyards and historical towns. The owner Elizabeth was warm and friendly and welcoming.
Enjoyed Most:
The view from the porch was outstanding, as well as the 2nd floor bedrooms. It was peaceful, with beautiful countryside all around us.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was on the small side, with very little space to work in. The drains to the shower were very slow.
Surrounding Area:
The vast openness and scenic countryside. We loved driving down country lanes and came across some amazing towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo was the nearest town and it had everything we needed. It is not within walking distance but is easily a 10 min drive. It was easy to get to from the the villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
The property was well-equipped, including a hair dyer, so just bring your clothes and enjoy.
Directions:
We flew into Pisa and used the directions given to us and had no problems finding the villa.
Check In Out:
The check in and check out were smooth. Elizabeth the owner lives next door so was always on hand if you needed her assistance.

Harinder, August

Overall:
I spent a month at Villa Sella and can honestly say I loved every minute of it. The location of the villa was ideal for anyone hoping to meander through the Tuscan countryside, with the charming village of Certaldo a 10 minute drive away and the hustle and bustle of Florence a 50 minute train ride from Certaldo. The villa itself was absolutely lovely and had every amenity imaginable included. Elizabeth and her husband were wonderful hosts, anxious to help their guests feel at home and enjoy their experience.
Enjoyed Most:
It was a toss up for us between the private pool where we relaxed in between all our day trips, the veranda, where we enjoyed many a bottle of local wine and delicious meals and last--but definitely not least-- the master bedroom suite.
Enjoyed Least:
Probably the mosquitoes. It was a warm, humid summer so they were in abundance. The owner brought us a fan for the veranda which really helped, coupled with plenty of citronella candles.
Surrounding Area:
The location in Tuscany was perfect...very close to San Gimignano, Certaldo and Poggibonsi with easy access to the main highway between Florence and Siena. We were able to visit many of the hilltop cities Tuscany is so famous for.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The little village of Sciano with a cute pizza/pasta restaurant was a good, long walk from the villa but the closest town with all amenities, Certaldo, was about 6 kilometers away. It was really a wonderful, little town with a walled city at the top of the funiculare with wonderful little restaurants, a great ceramic shop, and fantastic views. The main city of Certaldo itself had cute shops, great gelato on the square, and a wonderful market, the Coop, just outside of the city. Don't fret if you haven't visited any wineries yet, the Coop has a great selection of wines, especially Chianti!
Tips or Restaurants:
Elizabeth really thought of most everything for your convenience but be sure to bring your mosquito repellent devices. Also bring matches! For some crazy reason you can't find matches to buy anywhere. Be sure to avail yourselves of the wood burning grill outside. We made absolutely wonderful florentine Steak and seafood. As far as restaurants go, Pizza Marone in Sciano was good and had good take out pizza. In Old Certaldo I would highly recommend Da Messere Boccacio....wonderful food and great house red wine. If you are up for a beautiful, leisurely dinner with a view I would highly recommend Osteria Del Vicario near the top of the hill. Dinner and wine were both wonderful.
Directions:
The directions were absolutely perfect. We had no issues finding the property.
Check In Out:
Elizabeth was an exceptional hostess who made us feel welcome and facilitated the check in and out process.

Chris, August

Overall:
Overall outstanding villa. Exactly as described on the site. Clean, nicely decorated, functional kitchen, nice porch, and a private pool. Central location in Tuscany, in between Florence and Siena, and on the western edge of the Chianti region perfect to use as base to explore the area. Certaldo, the nearest town (10 minute drive) is not a tourist destination, but has 3 important assets: good restaurants, train station (on the Florence-Siena line, free parking), and the little hamlet of Certaldo Alta (a must see old town, some shops, nice restaurants). Elizabeth, the property owner, is very helpful and although we did not seek much advice she was always ready and willing to be contacted to answer questions.
Enjoyed Most:
Overall condition was excellent, plus central location between Florence and Siena and close to train line in Certaldo. Also, we loved the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Two relatively minor things: first, since the villa is next to another rental villa (which you can't tell by looking--the privacy is terrific), if there are loud clients on the other villa's deck, you can hear every word from your deck. Second, a bright light that illuminates part of the property is adjacent to the deck, which therefore is always under the light at night.
Surrounding Area:
Typical, beautiful Tuscan countryside. Central location.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo is 10 minute drive, not walkable. Parking was never a problem.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring usual toiletries, bug spray if mosquito season, and sun block. 3 options for local restaurants in Certaldo, there are several options (La Salette is very good but small) there are more in Certaldo Alta, which is beautiful and the local Pizzeria Maroni is a nice place for pizza or pasta (casual, 5 min from villa).
Directions:
I recommend using the new SR429 rather than the SS429 di Val d'Elsa to get from the the Florence-Siena autostrada. You would then exit from this new highway just south of Certaldo, which places you a little north of the villa, but then you would proceed south on SS429 until getting to turn off. On GoogleMaps, the Villa Avanella is a good reference for the road to the villa, but as the there is an error on a portion of road map right at villa it appears on Google as a dead end, which it isn't. It actually is contiguous with a road that appears to not connect that continues to Sciano and Creato.

James, June

Overall:
Lovely.
Enjoyed Most:
The backyard, the view, the quiet, the privacy, proximity to Florence by train and helpful, attentive Elizabeth.
Enjoyed Least:
Uncomfortable beds and small kitchen.
Surrounding Area:

Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. Not within walking distance.

Overall:
We had an amazing time with Elizabeth and the surrounding guests in the other villas. Many memories were made.
Enjoyed Most:
Elizabeth, the owner, without a doubt.
Surrounding Area:
Tuscany and it's rolling hills. Such a great place to do our daily walks.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo; you can walk if you are able to walk 3 km or so. I would be happy to do this without children.
Tips or Restaurants:
Mosquito repellent.
Directions:
It was fine with our GPS.
Check In Out:
Seamless.

Tracey, November

Overall:
Very enjoyable! The property is ideally located for use as a home base while taking day trips throughout Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:
The unit was very comfortable, and the views are fantastic!
Enjoyed Least:
We would have preferred a larger kitchen, but it is very functional.
Surrounding Area:
The property is located amidst the vineyards of Tuscany, and is a great location for visiting wineries in the vicinity, and walking in the area is very easy.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo is about 10 km away, not within walking distance but a quick drive away.
Tips or Restaurants:
You will need to bring converters for electrical devices (laptops, hair dryers, etc.) if you are American. La Saletta in Certaldo is a terrific restaurant with a good selection of wines and wonderful food!
Directions:
We did use a GPS, but found that the actual address of the villa did not appear. We used Sciano (the nearest very small town) as a reference, and once we were close, followed the written directions provided. We have no trouble finding the property from the written directions.
Check In Out:
Very easy check-in and check-out. This was altogether a wonderful experience, and we would recommend this villa to anyone interested in a comfortable place to stay in Tuscany!

Sheila, October

Overall:

Quiet and the view.
Surrounding Area:
Taking walks and meeting the neighbors. It was a great central location to visit many of the hilltop villages.
Nearby Events or Locales:

Surrounding Area:
Access to train station. Restaurants. Walking. Views of vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:

Tips or Restaurants:
Elizabeth provided a good list with directions. It would helpful to have the addresses of the destinations in order to use GPS.
Directions:
Used GPS.

Carl, September

Overall:
Absolutely superb!! EVERYTHING exceeded our expectations!
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was beautiful, the views magnificent, attention to detail at the property was impeccable. Very comfortable and spotless. The pool was enjoyed very much after hot days in the Tuscan sun. Location was excellent - very easy driving access to many towns. The nearby train in Certaldo was extremely convenient for longer day trips.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing to report here.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful Tuscan countryside with vineyards and olive groves was so calming, especially while sitting and relaxing on the porch. Also, just a 2-minute walk from the villa was a Catholic church which Elizabeth told us was built in 998 - amazing. Do not miss Certaldo Alto - wonderful ancient part of town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano was the nearest small town and you could walk there if you chose to, although the roads are very narrow however, there was not much there except Pizzeria Maroni.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pizzeria Maroni was only about 2 or 3 kilometers from the villa and their food was delicious, especially the gnocchi. Prices were very reasonable and we ate their a few times as well as got take-out. Future renters do NOT need to bring hair dryers, towels, wash cloths - everything is supplied.
Check In Out:
Check In was easy - Elizabeth was there and walked us through everything we needed to know for the villa. Ditto for Check Out.

Donna, July

Overall:
We all had a wonderful time at Villa Sella. It felt like home! Elizabeth was so helpful and friendly. She was very entertaining and introduced my grandson to her son and he enjoyed spending time with him doing playing video games.
Enjoyed Most:
It was very comfortable. We always felt like we were coming back to our home after a day of touring. We also loved the view of the rolling hills of Tuscany from just about every window in the villa. We loved Certaldo and its wonderful restaurants. Pizzeria Maroni was just down the road and the food there was delicious !
Surrounding Area:
Being close to the hill town of Certaldo. It was beautiful and not a lot of tourists know about it which made it so pleasant. We could always get into any restaurant without reservations and the food was delicious! It was also nice to be close to other hill towns. We rented a car and drove to many of them during our stay.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. We drove to the area.
Tips or Restaurants:
I mentioned Pizzeria Maroni which is on the way to Certaldo, plus any of the restaurants in Certaldo were all very good ! The Pam Market is nearby and they have all you need, including wines.
Directions:
We used our phones for directions to everywhere.
Check In Out:
Everything went so smoothly.

Cheryl, June

Overall:
The villa was wonderful, exactly what I imagined a Tuscan villa to be like. And the owner, Elizabeth, was great, as well.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting.
Enjoyed Least:
The bugs.
Surrounding Area:
Nearby to Certaldo, a small hill town not overrun by tourists.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano - a bit of a hike, and not really a town, but a restaurant.
Tips or Restaurants:
A good GPS system if you're driving yourselves !
Directions:
Used GPS in our rental but it was in Italian. In general, the Italian highways and roads are a little intimidating at first, at least for Americans.

Kevin, June

Overall:
The villa was amazing and then some! The views are breathtaking, great location, nicely decorated. We could not ask for anything more!
Enjoyed Most:
Sitting on the back porch with a glass of wine and watching the world go by was heaven! The villa had everything you could possibly need. Sciano was a great little town and Certaldo was the perfect mix of a hill town, but not too touristy.
Enjoyed Least:
A little tricky to find the first time, but then after that, no problems!
Surrounding Area:
The location was great for day trips to Lucca, Siena, and San Gimignano, but our favorite place was Certaldo Alto.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The villa is in Sciano, which doesn't have much except for a really great restaurant, Pizza Maroni. But it was easy to drive to the grocery store to stock up for the week, and go into Certaldo to the take away market to make a nice meal at the villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
Certaldo Alto is a special place. The best meal of the week was at the Ristorante L'Antica Fonte in Certaldo. Amazing food and great views. Pizza Maroni was also a favorite. But making dinner and eating on the back porch with the view that went on forever was the best.
Directions:
Make sure your rental GPS can be changed to English! It was fun trying to navigate in Italian, and we got pretty good at it!
Check In Out:
Elizabeth the owner greeted us with a warm welcome and came down when we told her we were checking out. It was a very smooth process.

Jeanne, June

Overall:
Very good! The property was gorgeous.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and the view. Also, the privacy of it and the private pool.
Enjoyed Least:
The beds were firmer that we would have liked. Also, it was the time of year when no heat is allowed. It was a chilly, wet spring. The house was cold.
Surrounding Area:
The Tuscany area is beautiful! We enjoyed the old town of Certaldo Alto. We enjoyed the wine bar up there and a fabulous resturant!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. No, nothing is walking distance.

Maureen , May

Overall:
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay because the villa was well appointed, clean, and had great views. The pool was open but the weather was too chilly.
Enjoyed Most:
Location in Tuscan hill country, close to Florence and Siena.
Surrounding Area:
Small towns to visit and few people.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo - not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pizza Maroni
Directions:
We didn't have a GPS as the car rental was out of units. Location is easy to find after you are familiar with the area.
Check In Out:
Elizabeth was a gracious host.

Jan, May

Enjoyed Most:
The view.
Surrounding Area:
We found an enjoyable wine tasting at nearby Tenuta Trociano.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo is the nearest town; it's not within walking distance.
Directions:
Great directions.

Corey, May

Overall:
Villa Sella was the perfect base for our Tuscan visit. Elizabeth and her staff were warm and wonderful hosts, providing everything we spoiled Americans needed to enjoy our visit to the fullest.
Enjoyed Most:
While the villa itself was very clean, well put together and luxurious, the terrace and views were simply magical!
Enjoyed Least:
The beds were a bit firm for our taste, but we knew this was typical in Italy.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed exploring the hilltop villages and historic cities during the day such as San Gimignano, Volterra, Monteriggioni, Siena, and Castellina in Chianti--and then finding a good vineyard and grocer in the afternoon to cook ourselves a fine Italian meal back at the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The village of Sciano was 1 mile away with a very good pizzeria ristorante (Maroni) run by the nicest family. It's better to drive. Certaldo was a few more miles away and had everything you needed.
Tips or Restaurants:
Villa Sella was really quite complete. Antica Trattoria La Torre in Castellina in Chianti was very good. The incredible vineyard Castellare is quite close by, as well.
Directions:
Elizabeth's directions to the property were great. We did use a GPS, as well, which was a great help for the exploring we did beyond the villa.

Ron, April

Overall:
The overall experience was wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was the best part of the property, along with the peace and quiet.
Enjoyed Least:
The mattress could have been more comfortable.
Surrounding Area:
The house was centrally located. The surrounding area was quiet and well-maintained.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The property is in the town of Sciano.
Tips or Restaurants:
Elizabeth provides everything you need for the house. Definitely visit Sylvia at the bakery in town, Forno Moderno. We also stumbled upon a restaurant about 30 minutes from the house called La Fattoria in Tavarnelle in Val di Pesa. Francesco the waiter and Riccardo the owner make you feel like family.
Directions:
You definitely need a GPS; we found it useful to enter the coordinates, instead of the address.

Omali, April

Overall:
Amazing. We had a wonderful time and LOVED the property. We will definetly use RentVillas again.
Enjoyed Most:
The property itself was just lovely. The house was beautiful and the scenery was breathtaking. We loved the back porch and the view while sitting outside. The house itself was so well-planned and we wanted for nothing. The owner, Elizabeth, was so accomodating and pleasurable to deal with. She made our stay outstanding and was always available if we needed anything.
Surrounding Area:
We loved that we were able to drive to so many Tuscan towns and were not far from any of them.
Tips or Restaurants:
There were several lovely restaurants. The owner can tell you which places are best.
Directions:
We used a GPS which was helpful for us.
Check In Out:
Elizabeth greeted us upon arrival and walked us through the house. Check in and check out were seamless.

Anthony, October

Overall:
Villa Sella is very comfortable. We spent most of our time enjoying the porch in the early mornings and late evenings. Due to cooler temperatures in October, we were unable to take advantage of the pool. Bedrooms were great for 3 couples and we had plenty of room to ourselves and great common space to share together.
Enjoyed Most:
Tranquility. Beautiful view, comfortable surroundings. We enjoyed having the services of a local chef for a wonderful dinner at home.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing, all was good.
Surrounding Area:
Easy access to grocery shopping in Poggibonsi. The old town of Certaldo on top of the hill, accessed by funicular, was lovely. The beauty of the area is awe-inspiring.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano was the closest with a pizzeria, but really you must have a car to travel to the surrounding towns. Certaldo and Poggibonsi were the closest, each around 7-9 km. Train station in Certaldo offers easy access to other areas; one of our group took the train to Venice for a day trip.
Tips or Restaurants:
There are no wash cloths provided, bring your own.
Directions:
We called Elizabeth and she met us on the road and escorted us to the property. Once we had the coordinates entered into our GPS (and not the address) there were no problems.
Check In Out:
Check in and out were very easy. Elizabeth was great. Only suggestion we could make is that the recycling buckets in the house and on porch be labeled for what goes in. It was great having such a good recycling program in place.

Joyce, October

Overall:
It was wonderful in every way and it exceeded our expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
The views, the terrace, the modernity of the home, the helpful landlord, the swimming pool, and the washer/dryer.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen, living room and terrace were a tight fit for 6 people, however, there are two other villas on the same wonderful property that are larger and just as nice.
Surrounding Area:
The cooking school was the highlight of the trip, the hill towns were amazing, and Siena was fantastic.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo--no, driving distance only. The nice thing is that there is a train station in Certaldo, so you can take the train to Florence and any other bigger towns you might not want to drive to.
Tips or Restaurants:
Yes, the only mistake we made was by not renting the villa for two weeks or longer. You dont need to bring anything with you, but you do need to buy any snacks, beverages or breakfast items you may wish to have. The Coop is the best grocery store, however, it is closed on Sundays. We liked the little Pizza Marrone nearby as it serves a full menu and was very convenient and the people running it were very friendly and nice. Be sure to read and make use of all the good printed material the landlord prepares for you. The day trips to hill towns and the "driving instructions" were extremely helpful. Getting the rental car back to the Florence airport is tricky; allow extra time for that.
Directions:
We did not use a GPS, but followed the written directions. However, we did have an iPhone and a person who is good at maps and directions.
Check In Out:
The landlord, Elizabeth, who is American originally, gave us a thorough explanation of everything.

Robert , September

Overall:
Very pleasant.
Enjoyed Most:
The terrace and bedrooms.
Surrounding Area:
We were well-placed for visiting Tuscany's major cities.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo is 4 km away.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a few basics as no shop is within walking distance.

Patsy, September

Overall:
We had an amazing week at Villa Sella. The home was the perfect villa in the Tuscan countryside. Elizabeth was a great host who carefully planned and thought of everything. The home was beautifully furnished and had everything we could possibly need for the week.
Enjoyed Most:
Spacious, fully equipped, and beautifully decorated home with a lot of amenities, inside and outside. The private, good-sized pool overlooking the hills was a real bonus and we used it every day to compensate for the summer heat. Elizabeth provided use of a local cell phone and bikes which were helpful.
Enjoyed Least:
Mosquitoes.
Surrounding Area:
Peaceful countryside setting overlooking Tuscany hills...very little traffic--pedestrian and vehicles.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano village - walkable but nothing there. Closest town was Certaldo, driving about 5 mins, not walkable as is too hilly. Larger town is Poggibonsi for supermarket shopping, about 10 minutes away.
Tips or Restaurants:
Definitely a GPS, a car, and mosquito repellant. Make a trip out to Certaldo Alto (drive from the backside) and book a cooking class with Guiseppina - a real treat and amazing experience. Bikes were older and some have no gears however; you want to rent if you plan to do serious biking. We enjoyed the nice ride to Certaldo for morning coffee. We also enjoyed restaurants out in Certaldo Alto.
Check In Out:
Elizabeth was very efficient and check-in and check-out were quick. Have ready 250 Euros cash for security deposit/final cleaning.

Olwyn, August

Overall:
Excellent. I wish we had had more time at the villa but we had so many other wonderful places to see. I recommend it highly. Would go again.
Enjoyed Most:
The view, the proprietor, the pool, the location.
Surrounding Area:
I loved the rural area, the people, and their lifestyle.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. Ambitious walk for us.
Tips or Restaurants:
I brought more than I needed. They supplied beach towels, wash clothes, and laundry supplies. We loved Pizzeria Maroni, which is nearby.

John, August

Overall:
Excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa's spaciousness and the beautiful views from the patio and master bedroom.
Enjoyed Least:
The mosquitos and the lack of shade by the pool. The photo shows umbrellas but we did not have any and it was very hot.
Surrounding Area:
The beauty of the landscape and the nearby hill towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo was not within walking distance. There was a smaller "town" with a good pizzeria but the road there is a bit treacherous. I would not walk it with my small children who are not mindful of cars.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring bug spray. Other than that, the place has everything you need.

Gerhardt, August

Overall:
A very comfortable, modern, relaxing and enjoyable property that easily accommodated a family of seven, including a 21 month-old child.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything, especially the three large bedrooms with ensuite baths; the modern, well-equipped kitchen; the dining veranda with country view; the private swimming pool; and the modern television, computer, and WiFi systems.
Surrounding Area:
We visited the towns of Certaldo, Volterra, San Gimignano, and Castellina in Chianti as well as toured an olive oil factory and cheese farm. We sampled wines at Cennatoio, Fontodi, and Fonterutoli. We also attended Certaldo's annual Mercantia festival.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo, which is a 4-5 km drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
We highly recommend the following restaurants: La Saletta Osteria/Enoteca in Certaldo, the Ristorante Dorando in San Gimignano, and the Ristorante Vescovino in Panzano.
Directions:
Although my wife and I stayed at Villa Certaldo previously, we did use GPS coordinates to locate the villa. Our son and daughter, driving separately, were impressed with the detailed accuracy of the written driving directions.

Gary, July

Overall:
We stayed in the PERFECT Tuscan home high on a hill with surrounding views of vineyards, olive trees, cypress, early morning mist, and fantastic sunrises. Our property's owner was MOST helpful yet totally non-intrusive. The architect/owner of the property has attended to EVERY detail of this home, so it is homey, intimate, cozy, while being elegant and classically "Tuscan" in color and design. Three lovely full bedrooms with terrific bathrooms and fine views.
Enjoyed Most:
The property was impeccably designed and maintained with perfect "Tuscan" views. Neat and clean and beautifully appointed, we felt we were living a dream of what Tuscan life should be. Quiet, picturesque, lovely, we felt at home the second we arrived. We had a wonderful week in the Tuscan countryside. Our villa was nestled into the country yet close to all the destinations to which we wanted to go. We could drive or take the train, which was only ten minutes from our villa.
Surrounding Area:
On windy yet well-maintained roads, we could step outside our door and walk to a little, ancient church, vineyards, olive and cypress groves. We were also close to the town of Certaldo, from which we could take the train to Florence, Siena, Venice, and other destinations. We felt as it we were in the heart of Tuscany and in the country, yet conveniently close to everything we might need in terms of transportation.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo was five miles away and the roads aren't great for walking as they are narrow with no shoulders, but it is an easy and quick drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
BEST pizza in Italy was one mile from our villa--Pizzeria Maroni! We brought our own adaptors, but the owner supplied everything, so I'm sure she had adaptors as well. She was THE BEST!
Directions:
Directions were perfect! We had a GPS but didn't use it.
Check In Out:
It was SO EASY! The owners were fabulous and treated us with enormous kindness and graciousness.

Becky, July

Overall:
The property overlooked a beautiful Tuscan countryside. We ate outside several nights (we hired a cook 2 nights and did take-out from a nearby restaurant, as well). The kids loved the pool. It was pretty hot the week we rented and a dip in the pool each night was great.
Enjoyed Most:
The view. Elizabeth, the owner, was also great.
Enjoyed Least:
There were a few ants which were promptly taken care of.
Surrounding Area:
Certaldo was a really neat little town. No crowds.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. Not really walking distance but a quick, scenic drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
I believe the restaurant name was Maroni's. Excellent and good prices. We ate there one night and did take-out one night.
Directions:
The directions to the property were great. I would however, suggest a GPS for anyone who plans to do a lot of driving in Tuscany.

John, June

Overall:
We had a fantastic time. The countryside was incredible and our host was wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The peaceful surroundings and the beautiful view.
Enjoyed Least:
The pool wasn't heated and the pool furniture was in need of repair.
Surrounding Area:
The vineyards and olive trees surrounding the area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo was the nearest town and was a 10-minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
The local pizzeria was incredible, the food and wine we had were some of the best. Bring your own shower soap and laundry soap. When they came to clean they took the soap we had and didn't replace it. Coffee is a must if you're not into espresso. Other than those small items everything was great.
Directions:
We used a GPS and it was a godsend. Sometimes the roads were a little confusing; make sure you go through the proper toll gate-- don't go through the one that says telepass; we found out the hard way and got a 50 Euro ticket for not having the proper toll ticket. No such thing as giving a tourist a break!

Dale, May

Overall:
We had a great time and the owner was excellent and very helpful. She gave us many good suggetions.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was great.
Enjoyed Least:
We arrived and could not find the owners, but we were eventually able to get in touch with her.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful scenery.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano
Tips or Restaurants:
We did not have a good experience at Wilma's, a nearby restaurant. We went there based on recommendations from the owner.
Directions:
GPS is helpful!

Fran, May

Overall:
Outstanding! The location, views, proximity to Certaldo with the railway station, and the property and amenities are great. Elizabeth was wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
It had all the conveniences of home in a beautiful Tuscan setting.
Surrounding Area:
We visited Lucca, Pisa, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, Florence, wineries and vineyards and all were convenient to the location. The train station in Certaldo made our trip to Florence very easy without the stress of driving. But most of all the warmth of the people of the area and great local resturants and food.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There is a wonderful pizzeria within walking distance. Certaldo is a few km away and has all the conveniences of a town.
Directions:
WE aarrived afterdark and would have had problems had we not had a GPS

Larry, April

Overall:
Excellent--we went April 7-14 and the weather was mostly overcast, chilly or raining so we blame the time of year. But we had fun!!
Enjoyed Most:
Our hostess was excellent--whatever we needed she attended to the matter. The villa was well equipped. We had fires every night and the villa supplied the wood for free. The location makes it easy to travel to San Gimignano, Siena, Volterra Monteriggione (fortified hamlet), and Florence.
Enjoyed Least:
The villa was not conducive to eating outside because of the weather. If they had an outside heater similar to what restaurants have (propane heaters) we might have ventured out to enjoy the beautiful view.
Surrounding Area:
Peaceful and typical Tuscany--rolling hills full of olive trees and vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo--not walking distance
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring warm fleece in April. The train system from Certaldo to Florence works fine. Alto Certaldo was a quiet relaxing town to visit and so close. Guissippe and Simone cooked a wonderful dinner at the villa and served the family wine and specialties they love to prepare. The hostess has many food/restaurant recommendations. Bring a GPS!!!
Directions:
GPS is so important, but to get to Villa Sella the owner's directions are great. Now getting back to the airport and other points of interest without a GPS is more difficult.

Roger, April

Overall:
Villa Sella was everything, and more, as it had been described on the RentVillas website. We were a family of six, five adults and one child. We went sightseeing almost every day and came home to relax by the fireplace, have a glass of wine, and listen to the provided CDs. We wish we could have stayed longer. Check in and out was a breeze.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was very beautiful and the home was decorated in very good taste. Elizabeth thought of every little detail. The bedrooms and bathrooms were nicely sized as were the living areas and kitchen. The back porch looked out on fields and was a delightful spot to sit and relax on days when it was warm we were there in March
Enjoyed Least:
We liked everything, no negatives.
Surrounding Area:
The villages of Certaldo and Certaldo Alto were charming. We spent a lot of time there. We all took the cooking class from Giuseppina and had a great time. I would definitely recommend that to others.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano was the closest town and it was in walking distance. I would not let my grandson ride a bike on the road though as it is pretty narrow. Certaldo is a short drive from Villa Sella.
Tips or Restaurants:
We liked Casalinga in Certaldo for dinner. We went twice and found the owners to be a wonderful couple. We stopped by on our last day to say goodbye and have an espresso. They gave us a big bag of biscotti for our drive to Venice. We also had a wonderful meal at Osteria la Magona in Castel Fiorentino which was not too far from Certaldo. We fixed our own dinner in the villa a couple of times. It's hard to find an open market on Sunday. Do get a GPS in your car.
Directions:
Directions were from either Florence or Pisa. We were driving from Rome so had to pick up the directions from a point in Poggibonsi.

Mary Ann, March

Overall:
Fantastic. Loved staying at Villa Sella.
Enjoyed Most:
Very homey feel. Everything is modern and beautifully decorated. Host is also brilliant and extremely nice and helpful.
Surrounding Area:
The town of Certaldo, which is a 5-min drive, is beautiful and has amazing local restaurants!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. We walked in one day and it's a good/easy 45-min walk with the most spectacular views
Tips or Restaurants:
Delfino in Certaldo does great pizza and pasta; we ate in and got take away and took it back to the villa.
Directions:
Directions provided were easy to follow.o

Carla, January

Overall:
It was very nice.
Enjoyed Most:
The fireplace in the living room was nice for those chilly October nights. And the "can do" spirit of Elizabeth and her family was much appreciated when we had a car issue.
Enjoyed Least:
The location was a bit far away from any meaningful villages.
Surrounding Area:
Biking and driving through the Chianti vineyards in the fall.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano is located 2-3 km away on a narrow road. It isn't much of a town.

Mike, October

Overall:
The villa is lovely. We were very comfortable and enjoyed our time there.
Enjoyed Most:
The decor is very nice and the setting is lovely.
Enjoyed Least:
We had a couple of issues that arose, but Elizabeth sorted things out quickly.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed attending the cooking school in Certaldo with Giuseppina. That was probably the hightlight of our time there.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano is the closest town and is walkable. Not much space, though, for pedestrians.
Tips or Restaurants:
Enjoy the lovely villa that Elizabeth has provided and visit the restaurants that she recommends. We had dinner at Wilma's and the local pizza place in Sciano and both were good.
Directions:
GPS is very helpful.

Esther, October

Overall:
Wonderful! It was like walking into a painting. Elizabeth was great! We arrived later than expected due to flight delays and she ordered food for us from a close by pizzeria. We had our first meal on the candlelit veranda.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and veranda were fabulous. We loved lounging by the pool and the weather was warm enough for swimming. The location was perfect for quick trips to Certaldo and longer day trips to Florence, Siena, and Volterra. The villa was clean and ready for use.
Enjoyed Least:
There are really no drawbacks to this villa. Small, sharper knives would be good. Local dogs can bark some, but that can happen anywhere.
Surrounding Area:
The market in Certaldo and walks in the vineyard.

Nicole, October

Overall:
The villa was very pretty and well situated for enjoying the gorgeous views. It was well appointed and had great modern amenities.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved enjoying the evenings on the back porch with easy access to the kitchen and living rooms. Having the Internet was a great plus for planning excursions.
Enjoyed Least:
Our only disappointment was that another villa is being constructed on the property right next door. Every morning, we were awakened by drilling and hammering, making it impossible to enjoy a quiet morning or afternoon at the villa. Editor's Note: The new accommodations of the same owner as Villa Sella will be finished by the start of the 2012 season. Most of the noisy part of the reconstruction has now been completed. November 2011.
Surrounding Area:
The old city of Certaldo is a welcome change from the busier tourist sites. Enjoy a wonderful meal at Taverna Antica Fonte at the top of the hill. Nearby, the pizzeria is wonderful and inviting and has a pasta tasting option that we enjoyed very much.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town is Certaldo and a car is necessary. Try the bakery for a wonderful breakfast treat.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa has almost anything you would need. Bring your toiletries and laundry soap. The local grocery store,"PAM", is open late on Saturday for your arrival and is also open on Sundays. Go to the villa first to take inventory then head to the store for anything else you might need.
Directions:
The town of Certaldo has a lot of looping one way streets with some dead ends. The GPS will probably route you around town but once you get to know the area, you will be able to negotiate.

Kim, October

Overall:
The amenities and view were better than we expected. Better than the photos. The pool was larger and cleaner than expected. The view from the bedrooms and deck is spectacular.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, view, pool, privacy, fans, reading material, Internet access, helpfulness and accessibility of Elizabeth, the owner.
Enjoyed Least:
Only minor complaints, as I would recommend Villa Sella, and return to it any time. Bathroom door in 2nd bedroom did not close. No full-length mirror anywhere in the house. The view from the pool was totally obscurred because the hedges hadn't been trimmed.
Surrounding Area:
We loved Certaldo Alto! Once you learn your way onto the main road, the location is great. Secluded, but accessible.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The walk into Certaldo is all downhill, with beautiful views much of the way. Arrange to get back by car.
Tips or Restaurants:
Electric adapters, spray-on insect repellant. We loved all the restaurants--cafes, pizzerias, Tuscan style, elegant--that we found in Certaldo. We actually had better food in Certaldo than the other towns we visited. I'd only go to the Sciana pizza place if I absolutely didn't want to drive to town. It was very noisy and crowded and we had to wait for a table.
Directions:
We did not have a GPS. Having actual mile or kilometer distances added to the directions would be very helpful. The landmarks referred to were obscure or no longer there.

Lynne , September

Overall:
We had a serene, highly pleasant time while at the villa, and were within easy drives of the many Tuscan sites we wished to visit.
Enjoyed Most:
The owner's anticipation and awareness of travelers' desires made this stay outstanding in our series of villa visits in several countries. Everything we needed was there.
Surrounding Area:
The immediate area is not Tuscany's most scenic, but we met some fascinating, warm, and creative people, in particular the culinary specialist Giuseppina Pizzolato and her family. We were delighted to have her prepare our first-night dinner at the villa and then to take a cooking class at her nicely equipped shop.
Nearby Events or Locales:
A vigorous hiker ready to leap off the winding road as the occasional vehicle suddenly appears could manage a walk to a small town with few attractions.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owner provides a knowledgeable restaurant list, a wealth of travel guides and maps, WiFi service and customized advice.
Directions:
One driver used a GPS and the other didn't. Neither had any problem finding the villa.

Alexander, September

Overall:
We loved Villa Sella. We could not have asked for a more peaceful spot, and the views were truly breathtaking. The house itself was perfect for our family, and the bathrooms were the best we found in Italy. Elizabeth is a gracious and very helpful host, and was there to help us whenever we need it.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was perfect. Siena was only 40 minutes, Florence just over an hour. We loved the views, especially from the porch in the morning, or at dusk. We had our meals outside whenever possible. The bathrooms and showers were wonderful, right down to the fluffy towels and soaps provided.
Enjoyed Least:
One night, we heard a lot of barking, but it was from across the valley.
Surrounding Area:
San Gimignano is a small hillside Tuscan that is only about 15 minutes away. There is also a winery close to San Gimignano which has tours and great wine tasting. Siena was close--40 km. Our favorite nearby village was Barbarino Val D'Elsa, which is about 20 minutes away. Wander through, and stop at one of the great restaurants.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano is close, but not really within walking distance after dark. Certaldo was about 8-10 minutes away by car, and has a train station where you can catch a train to Florence, Siena, or other places.
Tips or Restaurants:
We really liked Wilma's--a recommendation from Elizabeth. We had a great dinner and a delicious bottle of Montepulciano Nobile Chianti. The pizza place Elizabeth recommended was good, but make a reservation! Make sure you bring or rent a GPS; it was invaluable to us so many times. You really must have a rental car.
Directions:
We used the GPS coordinates, and it worked perfectly.
Check In Out:
Elizabeth was very pleasant and accommodating during check in, check out, and throughout our stay.

Anne, July

Overall:
Great.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the quiet at night and in the morning.
Enjoyed Least:
During the day, we could hear a plow or tractor working on the fields. The pool filter did not work for the first 3 days.
Surrounding Area:
Great area for day trips.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo--short drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
We found the beach towels on our last day in a chest in the hallway upstairs. Elizabeth, the owner, was out of town and she would have helped had she been nearby. Ask Elizabeth to explain how to use the dryer.

Overall:
My husband and I LOVED Villa Sella. The location was perfect for every day trip we planned and the house itself was so comfortable. We were located far enough away from the street that we never heard cars but we also didn't feel like we were in the middle of nowhere. It is tough to get a feel for a location when looking for a house in another country--and we can say we can't imagine we ever would have done better. Great kitchen and perfect for cooking breakfast and dinners. Elizabeth, the owner, was so helpful with explaining everything to us and she had all of the basics that anyone would ever want--from towels and paper goods to kitchen supplies.
Enjoyed Most:
All of it. Sounds trite but it is true. First class. My husband's only complaint about the entire trip was that we didn't spend enough time at Villa Sella. The views were off the charts. People warned us about the hard beds but our's was great; we've never slept so well and the sheets were amazing! We asked if Elizabeth could pre-stock for us and she had it all done perfectly, including fresh-picked apricots. She really went out of her way. She'll even lend you a local cell phone to use while at the villa so you don't have to use yours--and she has her number on it if you need to reach her! The TV has American channels and she has tons of movies in English as well as a library. We didn't have any bugs, but there were screens in the windows, anyway.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
The pool was incredible and private. The views are incredible from all bedrooms and from the living area. The back deck over looks the valley--just amazing. Certaldo was a 10-minute drive and has everything you could need. Also, it's really easy to pop on the train to Florence or Siena.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We drove everywhere. You really need a car and a GPS.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would suggest seeing Certaldo Alto. There are great stores in Certaldo, including specialty shops and a great clothing store . The weekly market is fun on Wednesdays.

Overall:
Villa Sella and the owner, Elizabeth, were a delight! Our family of five was very comfortable. We used the pool every day and the outdoor seating.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were amazing. The inside was very comfortable and the bathrooms were quite spacious.
Enjoyed Least:
A bit of problem with bugs one day, but we realized this was inevitable as we were in the country. Elizabeth took care of the problem right away.
Surrounding Area:
The grounds were beautiful. Lots of local restaurants nearby.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo, not within walking distance
Tips or Restaurants:
Basically, Elizabeth thought of everything that was needed. We brought bug spray to use around the pool and evenings when outside. We loved Wilma's--very authentic.
Directions:
We were a little lost using both the written directions and GPS. The roads and driving up the mountain were a bit of a surprise for us as we weren't sure how two cars could fit on the narrow roads! Our GPS kept dropping signal as well.

Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo is several miles/kms away. While it is within distance if you are in good shape, the area is hilly and driving is much easier.
Tips or Restaurants:
Take a cooking class at the at Giuseppina's nearby cooking school. It was by far the most fun we had on the trip. Bring or rent a GPS. It was invaluable for getting around.
Directions:
You will need a GPS for getting around.

Overall:
We had a fantastic time from the moment we arrived. All went very smoothly from our car pick-up in Florence to our arrival at Villa Sella's idyllic setting. GPS is recommended. Elizabeth was so welcoming and helpful in showing us around the villa and giving us restaurant tips. The villa is really well-located for day trips to many of the gorgeous hill towns, including San Gimignano, Volterra, the Chianti towns, Siena, Pisa and so on. It was hard to leave!
Enjoyed Most:
The villa itself is very comfortable and spacious. We were three adults and one child. It is nicely decorated, with a wonderful covered terrace overlooking the valley. Stunning views and very peacful. Lots of happy birds, and some incredible firefly shows! Also close enough to civilization (Sciano only a couple of minutes by car; Certaldo maybe 10 minutes) for easy access to restaurants and grocery shopping.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
The gorgeous scenery: one rolling hill after another and towns of Tuscany. San Gimagnano is very close and we went there for lunch a couple of days.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano was the closest and is definitely within walking distance, but we drove each time we went to the pizzeria.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa is well-stocked with all the basics like towels, toilet paper, soap, kitchen utensils, and staples like olive oil, salt, and pepper. It has a cute and functional kitchen with dishwasher, plus washer and dryer. We bought some citronella candles as there were a few bugs. Just bring a half empty suitcase so you can do a lot of shopping! Eliazabeth provides a list of restaurants and we tried two. Pizzeria Maroni was really good; it's the closest restaurant to the villa, in Sciano. One night was also tried Il Paese dei Campanelli, about a 15-minute gorgeous drive up into the hills. The food was delicious and the setting beyond pretty. In my next life I'd like to return as their very contented pet bulldog!

Absolutely amazing! Elizabeth was outstanding. She hooked us up with Giuseppina and her son, Simone. They cooked us a meal in our villa. Highly recommended. Guiseppina's brother's wine was one of the best wines we drank in Italy.
Enjoyed Most:
Private. Beautiful views. Personal touches, such as laundry soap, dishwasher soap, scented bath soap, hairdryers. Elizabeth was so accommodating. She was available 24 hrs a day.

Surrounding Area:
Beautiful views. Lovely walking areas. Wildlife. So relaxing. We hated to leave.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. Not within walking distance, but worth a visit. Good gelato!!! Also, worth visiting was Certaldo Alto. Take the funicular ride to top add walk around. Giuseppina's shop is located there, also.
Tips or Restaurants:
Villa is well equipped. All you need are groceries. We had our first experience with Florentine steak. It came raw, so make sure you let them know how you like it cooked.

We did have a GPS. It helped very much. Highly recommend. One of our couples bought a GPS in the states had Italy downloaded.

Everything! This was a return visit to Tuscany for us and Villa Sella far exceeded our expectations. The layout of the house was perfect for us. We explored the region and were always excited to get back to the house in the afternoon and enjoy the villa and the private terrace in the evening. There is a private pool for the villa and plenty of parking. The views are breathtaking. We woke in the morning to the beautiful views of the vineyards and rolling hills with hot air balloons gliding through the horizon. Simply amazing! I have been all over Europe, never to Italy until this trip. What greeted us was truly the single greatest vacation my wife and I have ever enjoyed. From the countryside Villa, to the surrounding geography, to the food and the people, we just thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Your suggestion of Villa Sella was perfect. We will not hesitate recommending your services or using them again as we plan for future vacations.

Tips or Restaurants:
Our trips to Pisa, Siena, Volterra, Firenze and Verrazano were quite delightful and often magical In Volterra there is a Roman Theater that dates 100 years BC. And we could walk amongst the remarkable site! That was magical.

Overall:
We had a wonderful time, great location, loved the views from the porch and the upstairs bedrooms. We spent all our time on the porch when not traveling. The men enjoyed the pool. Enjoyed Most:
The pool.
Enjoyed Least:
The spectacular view by the pool was obstructed by bushes and the lounge chairs could be more comfortable.
Surrounding Area:
Piazzera Maroni and the Moderno bakery - both of which we became "regulars" at within days of our arrival. The area is picturesque beyond words. Certaldo Alto is a must.
Tips or Restaurants:
Elizabeth provided all the information any renter could need. The best suggestion is probably to bring less.
Directions:
We used a GPS and had no problems.

Ann, July

Overall:
Very good experience -- great property and no problems during our stay.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, views, pool. Wireless and Netbook. Cleaning and fresh linens weekly. Washer-dryer.

Nearby Events or Locales:

Sciano is very small and was about 2 km - Certaldo was about 4 km.
Tips or Restaurants:
restaurants we liked were the ones suggested by Elizabeth - also the cooking school was one of the highlights
Check In Out:
I did not understand that I would be charged a cleaning fee for each week.

Charles, June

Overall:
This centrally located three bedroom villa was the perfect home base for our family gathering. Each of the three couples has their own bedroom and bathroom and shared a very comfortable common area. Elizabeth was the perfect hostess and helped us make our stay very enjoyable. The location was ideal for venturing out into all of Tuscany. It was close to a major highway so we could easily get to Cinque Terre and Pisa to the north or even venture further south to Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano, and Cortona on a day trip.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was spectacular. My husband is a photographer and took advantage of the views from the terrace overlooking the Val D'Elsa, especially at sunset.
Enjoyed Least:
It was cold while we were there in the first week of April. I don't think the heat had been turned on in a while so it was very cold inside.
Surrounding Area:
The villa sits overlooking a very picturesque valley. We travelled all over and around every turn it was another beautiful scene. It is close to the town of Certaldo where the train stops. You can take it to Siena or Florence easily for day trips without a car. Or you can travel by car to many of the hill towns on day trips. We were able to visit the Chianti area one day, San Gimignano and Volterra another day, the hill towns south of Siena another day, and Cinque Terre a final day.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano is the nearest small town. While I suppose you could walk to it, it is not really what I would call within walking distance. You really need a car at this villa in order to be able to get around. Certaldo is a bit further off and definitely not within walking distance. The Certaldo train station has a parking area where you can leave your car if you decide to take the train to Siena or Florence for the day.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa is really stocked with all the basics. We arrived with it stocked with plenty of toilet paper, soap in all the bathrooms, laundry soap for the washing machine, salt, pepper, and even coffee.
Directions:
We used our Garmin GPS with the coordinates for the villa. It got us right there. I would highly recommend bringing or renting a GPS system when driving in Italy. It was invaluable for our entire trip. Between it and the blue directional signs on the roads, we were able to navigate everywhere.
Check In Out:
We had planned on arriving right at 5:00, but our flight was delayed six hours. Our son and his wife arrived before we did at the villa and Elizabeth graciously let them in and showed them around - even though they did not have the voucher and deposit. She was very accommodating and helpful, especially in an unexpected predicament. Checkout was equally easy. She even allowed us to stay a bit longer if we needed to as there was not another group coming that day.

Patty, April

Overall:
We had a wonderful experience at Villa Sella. Elizabeth was a fabulous host. The photos of the property villa on your web site were completely accurate. Beautiful Villa and surrounding property.
Enjoyed Most:
I loved the views from the upstairs bedroom - it was absolutely beautiful. The Villa was spacious and had all the modern conveniences from home. It was nice to have a washing machine and dryer. The villa was beautifully decorated as well.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing that I did not like about the Villa Sella and nothing that I would change. We absolutely loved it.
Surrounding Area:
So many small towns - Villa Sella was centrally located and we could drive to so many of the small towns for day trips and to Florence.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo was the nearest town but was several miles away - and the road has no sidewalks so we did not want to walk with our children.
Tips or Restaurants:
The bathrooms already have electrical converters, hair dryers, towels, and wash cloths. There is an American coffee pot they have plenty of guide books, maps in the villa. They have DVDs also that the entire family can enjoy. Bring house slippers, the floors are tile and get cold - and we were there in March.
Directions:
We used a GPS to get from Villa Sella to the other surrounding towns, but from Florence we used the directions that Rentvillas provided - better directions than the GPS.

Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo was the nearest town that we visited. It's not within walking distance but is a 10 minute drive. You'll find a well appointed COOP grocery store and several excellent restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
Every restaurant recommended by Elizabeth was fabulous. We particularly enjoyed La Seletta sp? where we had the most amazing slow cooked wild boar!
Directions:
We plugged in the GPS coordinates provided by Rent Villas and found it with no problems. Would highly recommend a GPS if you plan on driving around Tuscany... an invaluable tool!

It was a little difficult to find. Our GPS was acting up. I am glad it wasn't dark at the time.

Louise, October

Overall:
Fabulous! The villa was lovely, picture-perfect view out the back of the villa. It was truly serene.
Enjoyed Most:
The peace it generated. It was quiet with an absolutely unbelievable view out the back of the villa.
Enjoyed Least:
Unfortunately, the cool weather set in later in our stay, and we did not have heat. We were warned there would be an additional charge, but the villa owner said she would be fined if the heat was turned on. She did accommodate with kindling and wood to make a fire, which we did, but it was uncomfortable at night especially, with temperatures in the 40's, and we did not come prepared for the temperatures to drop so low.
Surrounding Area:
We were in the countryside of Tuscany, which also gave us a sense of peace and tranquility as well as being away from the big city and tourists like ourselves!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano, and yes it was walkable, however there were really no stores, or coffee shops that we could visit during the day. The roads are very, very narrow, so caution is the key word when walking on any of the roads.
Tips or Restaurants:
If the stay is any time after mid-September, bring a coat! Be prepared the first day, as getting coffee is not easy, so bring your own from home, with your own creamer and sugar.
Check In Out:
Our hostess was most gracious and helped us out whenever we asked for help. A suggestion, a nice touch, would be a welcome basket with some fruit, coffee, maybe some bread and cheese for the first morning. It would have made finding those things less urgent.

Paulette, October

Overall:
This place was fabulous! Elizabeth has thought of everything and didn't hesitate to get us what we needed! I chose Villa Sella because of the reviews and I was not disappointed. Everything that everyone said was true. I only wished we had more time to spend at the villa. Take Elizabeth's recommendations about where to eat. I highly recommend Villa Sella!
Enjoyed Most:
I would have to say the view. All of the amenities were a plus too.
Enjoyed Least:
I liked everything!
Surrounding Area:
The peacefulness and tranquility. They were harvesting grapes when we were there and it was fascinating to watch them do it by hand. You truly feel as if you are living amongst the locals.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano is the closest with a great pizzeria. Certaldo is a short drive away. It has everything you need, even a train station if you want to go by train anywhere. We took the train to Florence, Venice, Cinque Terre. We drove to San Gimignano, Greve in Chianti. We also went up to Certaldo Alto...great view. Take Elizabeth's recommendations on where to eat. We ate at 2 restaurants in Certaldo Alto and 1 in Sciano and they were all fabulous.
Tips or Restaurants:
Elizabeth has thought of everything. The villa is stocked with toilet paper, bath soap, dish-washing detergent, laundry soap, paper towels, pool towels, ample bath towels, hand towels and wash clothes, flashlight, kitchen gadgets, spices, olive oil, vinegar. She supplied us with a small laptop and 2 pay as you go cell phones. We just picked up a few food supplies at the Coop in Certaldo. My only suggestion is to bring an alarm clock if you plan to get up early for day trips. Restaurant finds Sciano...Pizzeria Maroni Certaldo Alto...Il Castello and L'Antica Fonte San Gimignano...Ristorante Albergo Latini actually is very close to Certaldo
Directions:
We drove from Pisa and directions were easy to Certaldo. We arrived into Certaldo after dark and the only problem with directions was finding mile marker 48 in the dark. If at all possible, arrive when it's still daylight.

Rodney, June

Overall:
The property was as described on the website and the owner could not have been more helpful and accommodating. She was wonderful and even met us at the local butcher to help us translate what we needed.
Enjoyed Most:
The views are wonderful and the property is located far enough off the main road to maintain the peace and quiet of the countryside. The owner maintains everything in great condition and although has decorated in the Tuscan flair, has also provided for the way Americans like to travel comfort-wise. Things such as a full washer and dryer were great perks. The pool and backyard area were more than ample and were private as well. The animal preserve is a great place to walk and everyone took full advantage of exploring it. The location of the villa is also excellent for day trips to most places in Tuscany from Firenze to Montalcino and out to the coast.

No dislikes but the only regret was that we were not able to access the WIFI the owner was adding the following week. We did have access to the internet though. The kitchen is a little tight if six people planned on eating in it but we ate all meals outside on the patio.
Surrounding Area:
In our group we had marathoners, bicyclists, horse riders, wine lovers, and explorers. None were disappointed.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town, Certaldo, had most of the things that are needed. It would be about a two and a half mile walk into town. The train station is located there and although the grocery store there is closed on Sunday, another one is nearby via car that is open on Sunday.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa is well stocked as far as appliances and kitchen utensils. The only thing would be to bring BBQ tools such as a long fork and tongs if you plan on using the BBQ often. We managed but it would have been simpler.
Directions:
The coordinates are a little off but we still found the property with the excellent directions given. All other directions we received from the owner were also perfect and got us there no problem.
Check In Out:
Could not have been easier. The owner even enlarged the form required by the local police so those of us who use glasses had no problems reading it.

Susan, May

Overall:
It was WONDERFUL!
Enjoyed Most:
The view.
Surrounding Area:
The close proximity to so many different villages and Florence.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring converters and adapters, but the owner had an additional adapter. She also provided a list of GREAT restaurants and what they offered. We went on every recommendation and we were never disappointed.
Directions:
We used a GPS system and it worked great. We worked off the address on our GPS system.

Rodger, April

Overall:
Incredible. It was a perfect home away from home!
Enjoyed Most:
Privacy and the fact that it had everything needed to be comfortable - washer-dryer with laundry soap, dishwasher with soap provided, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, movies, cable, phone etc. The owner has thought of everything.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing
Surrounding Area:
The ease of getting into town. The view from the porch. Cooking classes at Cucina Giuseppina.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano is 1 km away with a few restaurants. Certaldo is 4 kms away and has full services.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owner has great recommendations for nearby restaurants and things to do. Cooking with Giuseppina was excellent! The prosciutto and peas that the owner's chef made for us one night, along with an incredible dinner, were delicious. A GPS unit made navigating the countryside MUCH easier and enjoyable.
Directions:
We used a GPS. We used the coordinates given to us and that took us directly to the unit with no problems.
Check In Out:
If you go in the winter be prepared for the heating cost.

Kurt, January

Overall:
After reading the property reviews we had high expectations. They were all met or exceeded. The owners are very engaging and went our of their way to get us properly oriented. They were ready with explanations and suggestions when asked, but left us to ourselves which we appreciated. We also want to compliment our travel consultant from Rentvillas, who went our of her way to help us with planning our trip. She was invaluable to us, even helping us with an issue over a weekend when she "just happened" to pick up our email.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the peace and tranquility of the property as well as the marvelous views. Also enjoyed the smell of lavender after a fall rain--from the lavender bushed on the grounds. We also enjoyed dining on the very comfortable loggia with its marvelous views of the hills of Tuscany.
Enjoyed Least:
What is not to love about this property?
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the pace of life, olives being harvested from the many nearby olive groves, and the beauty of the surroundings. San Gimignano and Volterra are not to be missed.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano is within walking distance and we enjoyed the pizzeria located there very much. It is family owned with a bustling atmosphere. Food is simple, but delicious.
Tips or Restaurants:
The property is well appointed. If you are driving, we recommend a GPS system that can readily be purchased before your trip. We bought a Garmin Nuvi 670 that included maps of Northern Europe, including Italy. It was a Godsend.
Directions:
We arrived in the dark of night and would not have found Villa Sella without our GPS. The coordinates were supplied by Rent Villas.com.
Check In Out:
Quick and easy.

Steve, November

Overall:
We had a wonderful time. We felt like the villa was our home away from home. I would say that this was the best vacation we've ever had. The villa owner, Elizabeth was fantastic. She was always available to assist us.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was fabulous. We enjoyed morning walks. The location was convenient to travel to various areas such as Luca, Pisa, Siena, and Chianti country. The villa itself was very comfortable, equipped with a TV, DVD player, washer and dryer, full kitchen. We enjoyed feeding Bardot, the horse. Also, being Catholic, we loved having a church just a short walk away.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing we did not like about the property.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed historical sights, the food, the wine, the view of the Tuscan hills.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo was the nearest town, just a 5-10 minute drive from the villa. There were some good restaurants there, a grocery store, train station, and just about anything that we needed.
Tips or Restaurants:
Certaldo Alto is a neat medieval city reached by the "finiculare" cable car from the center of Certaldo. We were able to enjoy their Fall Festival. Casalinga and Wilma's were great restaurants. I must say, we never had a bad meal anywhere! The villa was equipped with a list of local restaurants, maps, tours etc.

Helena , October

Overall:
Great time! The location provides very central access to all Tuscany highlights...the farthest we had to drive was Lucca...approx. 45 miles...most locations were less than 20 mile drives.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa sits atop a hill 600' above sea level, so provides wonderful view of the valley and opposite hilltops...all with vineyards, villas and olive groves. Since the owner is an X-pat American, all amenities are 'just like home'...even HD TV Fox News! and internet access.
Enjoyed Least:
No downside that I can identify.
Surrounding Area:
The location provides very central access to all Tuscany highlights...the farthest we had to drive was Lucca...approx. 45 miles...most locations were less than 20 mile drives. There are a number of local 'pizzerias' win minutes of the villa...or more upscale restaurants win 2-3 miles in downtown Certaldo or Certaldo Alto...so, no shortage of good food and wine!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo is 2 miles...not a casual walk, but a 5 minute car ride to "Centro" with ample parking in town square...where a tram can also take one to the old walled, hilltop city of Certaldo Alto, the original medieval city.
Tips or Restaurants:
The joy of this location, as mentioned previously, is that the 'hostess' is an X-pat American, so has all the amenities that we are used to...microwave, new stove, refrigerator, washer, dryer, internet access...so we had very little to bring, other than clothing!
Directions:
A little tricky getting on A11, to A1 out of the airport...my GPS was not charged upon arrival, so 'winged it' and missed the A11 entry...so drove half way to Bologna before realizing my error!! So, make sure your GPS is working...GPS is also a much needed friend when cruising around the Tuscany countryside...I highly recommend that GPS be included in your check list.
Check In Out:
The owner us and gave us 'key operator' instructions on all appliances and helped me set up the internet access, using the Nokia cell phone as the Internet modem...works at 460kbsec which is fine for email usage...would not plan on any PowerPoint attachments, however!

Overall:
It was an amazing week. The house exceeded our expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
It is hard to begin - the view was incredible. The bedrooms were very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. The living room was very comfortable - we curled up at night after a wonderful day sightseeing and watched movies. The terrace was superb. Having the owner on site was a plus -- Elizabeth and her husband were very attentive and helpful. I could go on and on!
Enjoyed Least:
There were a few insects around but that was due to the warm weather they had just had. Was not too much of a bother at all.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery and countryside are amazing. The neighboring towns of Certaldo and Poggibonsi Nord had stores and supermarkets for food shopping, which helped us settle right in.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The smallest "town" was Sciano, which you could walk to, although it might take a bit. It is really more of a village. Certaldo is the closest real town but you have to drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Elizabeth makes sure the house has everything you need. There is a Coop and a Pam, both supermarkets nearby. Coop is in Certaldo and there is a Pam off the Fi-Si highway in Poggibonsi. We enjoyed eating at Wilmas and at Pizzeria Meroni, both a short distance from the villa and both recommended by Elizabeth. However, we had one of our best meals at La Mangiatoia in San Gimignano, which is about a 15 minute drive from the house.
Check In Out:
Elizabeth took us on a tour of the house at check in and presented us with driving directions to grocery stores and various area restaurants. This was extremely helpful and thoughtful and made settling into the villa much easier.

Kay, September

Overall:
It was great, Elizabeth was very helpful. The cooking class she sent us to was really fun. We did have some rain so didn't get to use the pool very much. She did bring us firewood, so we could have a fire on a few cold nights.
Enjoyed Most:
Very modern, all the convenience of home, close to most things. Day trips easy from here.
Enjoyed Least:
Need better lighting in the bathrooms.
Surrounding Area:
The view, location, centrally located for the day trips.
Tips or Restaurants:
Buy food for the first day at least, as you'll be tired. Elizabeth has lots of good ideas, you can ask her anything. Best Pizza was at Pizzeria Maroni in Certaldo. Pam was the grocery store that was closest, and easy to get to.
Directions:
We did use a GPS. Was the best thing ever!
Check In Out:
Everything went smoothly.

Carol, September

Overall:
Villa Sella is truly an amazing villa, and the host, Elizabeth, is a wonderful villa owner and goes far out of her way to ensure your stay is comfortable. I would recommend this villa to anyone; it is centrally located to visit all the surrounding areas in Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa had everything to offer, a well equipped kitchen to prepare meals, the bathrooms are very spacious, laundry facilities and a beautiful patio to drink wine on every night!!
Enjoyed Least:
I truly cannot say a bad thing about this villa!!
Surrounding Area:
The view, when you wake up the first thing you see is vineyards below you!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Certaldo, it was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owner has a list provided in the villa of outstanding restaurants near by.
Check In Out:
Our villa owner went through the entire villa with us upon arrival.

Cheryl, September

Overall:
Wonderful. Beautiful views, beautiful house, marvellously well equipped with everything we needed.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was sensational. Sitting on the loggia looking across the valley and having dinner was magical
Enjoyed Least:
Mosquitoes are a problem that needed heavy duty insect repellent .
Surrounding Area:
Fantastic small hill towns with magical atmosphere
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring good mosquito repellent. Otherwise everything that you may need is provided - even pool towels and dishwasher tablets!
Directions:
Our SatNav system uses address and postcodes, not GPS. It couldn't find the house, so we had to ring and ask - but Elizabeth was brilliant with directions and it was all solved very easily.
Check In Out:
Very smooth, very easy.

Susan, August

Overall:
We had a wonderful time at this house. Everything was perfect. The owner could not be nicer and more helpful. She has taken great care to think of everything that one would need when renting a house. We enjoyed the pool every day. Ate outside on the porch for every meal. It was great!
Enjoyed Most:
The house and the views. The house is very well designed with well done bedrooms and baths. The kitchen was very well equipped. Beautiful area with wonderful views.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing!
Surrounding Area:
We loved visiting the hill towns, Siena and Colle di Val d'Elsa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo is the closest town but not within walking distance. There is a small village, Sciano, which you can walk to that but it is mostly houses. We had some wonderful walks on the small roads around the house.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owner provides you with great recommendations for restaurants in the area. There is a great bakery in Certaldo.

Barbara, August

Overall:
We were very comfortable from the minute we arrived. The house lived up to our expectations with its gorgeous views, and modern set-up. The owner has thought of everything to make guests comfortable.
Enjoyed Most:
The house was perfect and we loved the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
We liked everything.
Surrounding Area:
The shopkeepers in Certaldo were so nice, and patient with us. The town is so cute. The countryside and hills are so bucolic and restful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo - not within walking distance. We could have walked to Sciano, but it was too hot.
Tips or Restaurants:
Even though the house has screens, bug spray would be helpful. Even the restaurants with outdoor seating had lots of bugs.

Joan, August

Overall:
We had high expectations and they were all met or exceeded.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and view were stunning, we were within easy driving distance of so many wonderful places.
Enjoyed Least:
Without window coverings I felt a little exposed taking a shower in the upstairs bathroom overlooking the parking area.
Surrounding Area:
Everywhere you looked and everywhere you went there were beautiful old buildings or towns. We didn't even make it up to old Certaldo because we wanted to see soo many other things, but also wanted to spend lots of time relaxing at the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano was within walking distance - for us, anyway - but other than a fantastic restaurant there wasn't much there.
Tips or Restaurants:
We picked up dinner at Giglio's Alimentari several nights. After running around during the day we enjoyed spending time at the Villa so much it was perfect for us. Don't bother brining DVDs from North America, they don't work in European DVD players, but we enjoyed watching the stash a the Villa.

Jim, August

Overall:
Our experience at Villa Sella was wonderful. The villa is exceptional. Elizabeth is a marvellous hostess. The location is great.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything! It is wonderfully appointed with every amenity one could imagine. The sundeck overlooking the wonderful views and the fabulous pool are both marvellous.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing. We had read about a privacy issue with the neighboring villa, with being able to see into the property, but that is not an issue at all, as there is now a very discreet but complete divider between the two properties. We had total privacy.
Surrounding Area:
Its a lovely area. Its a bit of drive - about 40 minutes to Florence, but being located in the middle of Florence, Pisa and Siena was wonderful. Also, San Gimignano is a terrific adventure and only minutes away.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano is a very tiny hamlet that is within walking distance - about a 30 minute walk. There are no shops but there is a good pizzeria. Certaldo is about 4km away. There are some shops, but the best part is Certaldo Alto accessible by funicular or a nice hike. It's a very nice medieval walled village.
Tips or Restaurants:
The Pizzeria in Sciano has great service and good food - very casual. We did find an excellent cooking school about a five minute drive from the Villa. Guiseppina is the lady's name and Elizabeth at the villa can put you in touch with her. She is lots of fun.
Directions:
Don't be dismayed if your GPS takes you up a very steep gravel road you are on the right track. Once you are settled you will realize that you do no need to use this route.
Check In Out:
Simple and smooth.

Sue, July

Overall:
Wonderful. The house was great with beautiful bedrooms and gorgeous views. The location was well situated to get around easily. The owner was very helpful with any problems that arose and gave useful suggestions.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was great. It was easily accessible to all the surrounding towns. The views were spectacular. We liked being on a country road - the boys were able to ride the bikes that were provided and jump into the pool. Perfect end to a day.
Surrounding Area:
Easy to get around to various sites and it was easy to go to Florence if you felt like battling the traffic. The owner provided us with a list of restaurants in the area and each one was a wonderful experience. I urge guests to take advantage of this and not to bother to find your own, you will miss out on a fabulous dining experience!!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo was a 10 minute drive by car.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owner takes care of this.
Check In Out:
It went very smoothly.

Jeanmarie, July

Overall:
Magical experience, even better than the beautiful pictures would indicate. Very comfortable accommodations near a wonderful Tuscan hill town that is well preserved and overlooked by most tourists !!
Enjoyed Most:
Seclusion, decor, view and private pool were all wonderful aspects of the property. A Tuscan experience with an appeal to American comforts and amenities
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing major... bicycles need to be upgraded a bit.
Surrounding Area:
Local town of Certaldo and proximity to other hilltown tourist destinations.
Tips or Restaurants:
Listen to the owners !! They know best.

Michael, June

Overall:
The photos and descriptions were quite accurate and the owner was quite accommodating and eager to make our stay memorable.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, view and surrounding area.
Enjoyed Least:
Somewhat close to the owner's other rental property and could hear guests during meals on the portico.
Surrounding Area:
Close to town to shop for fresh food and take train to Florence.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owner, Elizabeth, was filled with great suggestions for food and activities in Certaldo. We enjoyed shopping and cooking our dinners in the privacy of our own villa.
Check In Out:
Owner was wonderful!!!

Miles, May

Overall:
A beautiful home a well-appointed country villa estate with a spectacular view of the Tuscan hills. A helpful and welcoming host couple who made every effort to allow us to feel at home.
Enjoyed Most:
The home was a beautifully restored and converted outbuilding with great views, spacious bedrooms, and an outside dining area that was delightful.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing to dislike.
Surrounding Area:
Quiet, agricultural area close enough to Florence but closer to smaller towns with ancient centers that were very much worth exploring in their own right.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo was nearest, but too far to comfortably walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Rely on hosts for recommendations. Explore the smaller, old walled towns in the area rather than focusing exclusively on Florence.

Richard, April

Overall:
Our stay was fabulous. The owners were terrific--always available to answer questions and help in anyway they could. If we ever have the chance to travel to Tuscany again we would definitely stay at Villa Sella.
Enjoyed Most:
Villa Sella was HOME. Totally comfortable and the VIEWS were magnificent. There are DVD's and CD's, travel books and a wonderful Satellite TV with English stations. The kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked. I wish we had been there when the pool was open - it was still quite cool in April - because the pool and the pool area are perfect.
Enjoyed Least:
Can't think of a thing.
Surrounding Area:
The views were beautiful. We had a GPS that took us through back roads that seemed like someones driveway and it was amazing.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo was the nearest town and not within walking distance but just a short drive. There is a bakery there that had not only baked goods but eggs and milk, etc. ---everything you need to prepare a delicious breakfast.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pizzeria Maroni in Sciano between Villa Sella and Certaldo is very good. Enjoy the experience of being a local. Shop at the Bakery in Certaldo and the PAM market in Poggibonsi.

Christine, April

Overall:
The week in Tuscany was thoroughly enjoyable and this villa was a wonderful place to unwind after sightseeing. We have a large family and we were very comfortable, and there were plenty of dishes and towels. We particularly enjoyed the outside space, including lounging around by the pool. Unfortunately, we were a bit too early in the year to enjoy the pool.
Enjoyed Most:
Waking up to the most amazing view over the Tuscany countryside. Also, Villa Sella is set up for all ages - it is truly a home from home with everything that you need for a family. We had toddlers and teenagers and there were games, toys, movies, music, etc. for a wide range of ages and tastes. The owners were wonderful as well and made us feel right at home.
Enjoyed Least:
I honestly can't think of anything that we didn't like.
Surrounding Area:
The villa is extremely well situated for sightseeing between Florence and Pisa. Each day we drove less than an hour and a half and had plenty to see and do. The smaller walled cities of San Gimignano and Volterra were our favourites, along with Siena.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Certaldo. It wasn't walking distance but it was a quick drive and easy parking. There was a smaller village, Sciano, that could have been a pleasant walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owners had recommended Wilma as a restaurant for home cooked meals and we found the food delicious. We didn't find a bad meal anywhere that we went. Due to plane delays and missed flights, we didn't arrive at the villa until 10 pm on Saturday night. Luckily, we managed to stop in a store 15 minutes before the closing and picked up groceries. But, it was handy to have packed small boxes of cereal and a few snack type items to tide us over until we were able to shop properly.
Directions:
It is very easy to follow road signs and a map and head in the general direction. We attempted to download directions from Google and Yahoo and found those incredibly distracting with turns and street names which we never saw.

Crystal, April

Overall:
It was truly a gem, and we would return in a second!
Enjoyed Most:
Renting Villa Sella was our favorite part of our Italian vacation which also included stays in some cities. Being able to come "home" and relax after a day of sightseeing and exploration was wonderful. The house was truly a home - comfortable, well-furnished and relaxing. We were travelling with 2 teenagers, and the fact that they could just hang out and watch TV - a wonderful TV! - allowed a down-time that is not possible in a hotel. The property owners could not have been more helpful, as they answered every question graciously and even allowed us to use their computer to check train schedules, etc. The kitchen was very well-appointed and made it very easy to return each evening and make a simple dinner.
Enjoyed Least:
This has nothing to do with the property itself, but we were sorry that, because we were visiting in late November, when we returned each evening it was already dark and chilly, so we did not have the chance to enjoy the terrace or views as much as we would have liked. Other than that, there was really nothing that we did not like. Any idiosyncrasies were well explained i.e., how to use the washer and dryer, heat, so we were not taken by surprise.
Surrounding Area:
The views! We did a lot of driving, and around every turn we marvelled at the views, villas, animals, etc. Certaldo was charming, and our host gave us some local restaurant recommendations that were great.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano was the closest small town, and we enjoyed a pizzeria there very much. It was not withing walking distance, at least not in November, but you probably could ride a bicycle in warmer weather. Certaldo was the closest larger town, but that was driving distance, as least for us.
Tips or Restaurants:
I cannot think of anything we were missing, and the local markets were easily found to buy supplies and food and drink. One note - we arrived on Sunday, and in Italy at least in the countryside everything closes Sunday at noon, so we were unable to buy any supplies until Monday morning. If you are planning to arrive on Sunday be sure to stock up before noon!
Directions:
Once we got off of the autostrada the directions noted a turn at "48". At first we thought it was 48 kilometers, but it referred to road marker 48, which actually came up fairly quickly. Other than that they were very clear.
Check In Out:
Our host was ready for us when we arrived, showed us around the property and made us feel welcome from the start.

Lisa, November

Overall:
Our experience at Villa Sella was way above our hopes and expectations - which were high to begin with! Many thanks to the owners and to the staff of Rentvillas for helping us experience a vacation that was as near to perfect as you can get!
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was exceptionally clean and well-maintained, and wonderfully appointed. The owners are superb hosts! And the view is spectacular!
Enjoyed Least:
There is very little to be critical about! The only problem we had was with some sewer gas smell in the guest bath. Editor's Note: The owner had this fixed immediately; the problem was that no one had used the shower, and the water had become stagnant in the pipes.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area is wonderful. Sciano and Certaldo are delights, as is the proximity to San Gimignano. I especially appreciated the fact that we had the feel we were out in the Tuscan countryside!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano is the closest town and yes, you could walk there. It's a short drive to Certaldo or Poggibonsi, with good shops and amenities there.
Tips or Restaurants:
We took the train from Certaldo to Firenze for a day visit, which was definitely good! Also, for late October visits it's good to be aware that weather conditions can be quite variable - pack for moderate and sunny or cool and rainy. The weather, however, is no deterrent, and sightseeing is as much fun in the drizzly fog as it is in the sun - it's a totally different ambiance!
Directions:
The sign to Sciano at the 48k mile marker comes up really quickly and it's easy to overshoot it!
Check In Out:
Our flight was delayed and we had planned to be the first at the villa, but the owner was extremely gracious in welcoming the rest of our family and getting everyone settled in.

Ronald, October

Overall:
I would definitely highly recommend either Villa Sella or Villa Certaldo which is on the same property. I would say that the Villa was one of the highlights of our trip to Italy.
Enjoyed Most:
The house itself is very nice and is immaculately clean, the view from the back porch is incredible and the owners are very friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed eating outside on the back porch.
Enjoyed Least:
The beds were very firm, although it didn't seem to disturb my sleep at all. We have travelled in Europe several times, and I realize that firm beds is just part of the European experience.
Surrounding Area:
The view is incredible! We liked being out in the country and away from city noises. We also enjoyed being very close to a church that we walked to on Sunday morning. The location was convenient for making day trips throughout Tuscany. Certaldo is a small town which is unaffected by tourism. We enjoyed going in to the bakery, meat market and grocery store and living like a local for a week.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen was stocked with most of the essentials that you would find at a B&B in the US. We didn't really need to bring anything from home. Our last day at the villa, we had a nice dinner in Certaldo Alto at Il Castello. We had a really nice dinner, and the setting is gorgeous.
Check In Out:
It was extremely helpful to have an English-speaking owner.

Linda, October

Enjoyed Most:
Outlook, full Satellite coverage and English stations, comfortable lounge seating.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was too small to dine in, no electric jug, power failed and required resetting.
Surrounding Area:
Close to many attractions
Tips or Restaurants:
Well stocked.

Ken, October

Overall:
The photos do not come close to capturing the beauty, peacefulness and luxury of the villa. It is truly spectacular. We will recommend to all! The owner is an amazing hostess. She has created simultaneously a luxurious and homey environment. She was available to us at any time of the day for questions or recommendations.
Enjoyed Most:
It is difficult to single out just a few things, because it was all so spectacular. From the moment you drive on to the property, the grounds are beautiful. The villa is so fresh and open, beautifully decorated, windows everywhere looking on to amazing views, state of the art kitchen, even nice bed linens!
Enjoyed Least:
There was not one thing we would change.
Surrounding Area:
We loved hiking through the 75 privately owned acres. Very romantic. The market days in Poggibonsi and Certaldo were great.
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved the fresh food at the markets, so we cooked in the wonderful kitchen and ate on the veranda every night. We did love the hill town, Lucca. Great day trip. Bring warm slippers and warm clothes for chilly mornings. We left all the windows open all the time and with the tile flooring we needed to dress warmly in the morning.
Check In Out:
We felt very welcome and at home, almost like visiting a friend.

Monica, September

Overall:
We all had a wonderful time at Villa Sella. The owners not only prepared the property with ease and comfort in mind but also personally made us welcome as their valued guests.
Enjoyed Most:
The house itself was charming, yet new and very modern, with all of the conveniences one could want with comfort and beauty included! There were many little touches that really welcomed us and made us more comfortable: a very well appointed kitchen and beautiful tubs of flowers on the porch overlooking a spectacular view and a sparkling swimming pool, very welcome after a long day of exploring the countryside and vineyards and little towns. There were even lovely sprigs of lavender scenting the rooms. The owners were very accommodating and helpful in suggesting local eateries and driving routes and shopping locations.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing to not like.
Surrounding Area:
The peacefulness and lush fields of the countryside combined with the hilly, winding roads made the entire area seem like an escape from real life, almost a fairy tale, which is a great way to feel on vacation. The property is close to roads leading in all directions to make sightseeing and exploring easy.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The town of Certaldo is a compact, busy little village that met all modern needs, but having the old town up on the hill, accessible by funiculare, was really a treat! It was fascinating with its history, small museum, little gift shops, an artistic workshop area that sold paintings and hand decorated pottery, and the castle itself. We even had our best meal of the trip there at a little outdoor cafe.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is really nothing to suggest except perhaps beach towels for the pool. The kitchen is very well equipped as are the bathrooms, all with hair dryers. The owners recommended the restaurant Wilma's - very good hearty food. In the old city of Certaldo there is a small outdoor cafe under the trees a short way down the street from where the funiculare lets you off, on the right side of the road that was excellent.
Check In Out:
Everything went very smoothly even though we arrived about an hour early and initially got a tiny bit lost. The owners were lovely and very helpful in all ways.

Diane, July

Enjoyed Most:
We loved every aspect of our stay, including our wonderful hosts. They went out of their way, literally! to ensure that our trip was excellent. We were traveling with a 2 year old, and the owner had stocked our villa with age appropriate toys, books, outside toys, pool toys etc.
Enjoyed Least:
No complaints.
Surrounding Area:
Gorgeous views--we even had a double rainbow visible off our porch one evening.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo-not within walking distance, but about 5 mins by car.
Tips or Restaurants:
For families with small children, don't worry about books, toys, a bed, etc... just bring enough to keep them occupied on the airplane. My daughter far prefered playing with the "new" toys to the ones I brought from home. Note that most places in the town of Certaldo and the accompanying Certaldo Alto, the ancient hill top town above the modern city that you can get to via a cable car, are closed on Monday. There is a supermarket in the nearby town of Poggibonsi that is open on Sunday - very rare for Italy! Also, the villa is fully stocked, so some of the Rentvillas suggestions--ie pillowcases, dish sponge etc, were not needed, unless you are staying other places as well, bring only your clothes etc...be sure to bring raingear, at least in the spring. It rained several days. Certaldo is a large town, so you should be able to arrange for a car rental pick up there. You can take a train to Certaldo. Our rental car plans fell through, so we were driven to the property by our host. If people don't want to rent a car in Certaldo, I would recommend renting in Florence where we eventually got a car, rather than the Avis in Siena, as they were closed at 12:00pm on Sat, and all day Sunday...
