Overall:
The best thing you can say about this apartments is it has a great location. The coliseum is very nearby, but you have to be outside to see it. Excellent restaurants all around. We especially liked the restaurant we nicknamed "Einstein" that was just across the street and to the right about 50 steps. The grocery store directly across the street was handy, although they never had ice. Transportation means was very close--buses, cabs, the metro, all no more than one to five minutes away.
Enjoyed Most:
Its proximity to everything. There were TVs in both bedrooms and in the living room. Our bedroom TV had Netflix.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room furniture needs upgrading. We spent almost no time in that room.
Surrounding Area:
We were just a two-minute walk to the coliseum and a five-minute walk to the bus stop for the hop-on/hop-off tours, which we highly recommend. The train system in Italy is great. Don't worry about booking ahead. Just go to the station and get your tickets.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in Rome! We did go to Pompeii and tried to get to Capri, but when we got to Naples, the water was rough and the boats weren't running.
Tips or Restaurants:
All the restaurants in the area, and there were at least a dozen within a 3-minute walk, were excellent to good. We had no bad meals.
Directions:
Directions were fine.
Check In Out:
Check in and out were excellent.

Overall:
We had a wonderful stay. There was plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 children. Loved having the outside terrace, also.
Enjoyed Most:
Great location.
Enjoyed Least:

Surrounding Area:
Loved having a 24-hour Carrefour (groceries) across the street, steps from the Colosseum, great food nearby and taxi stand right around the corner.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We we able to pretty much walk every where we wanted
Tips or Restaurants:
Best restaurant by far was Ai Tre Scalini, Via Panisperna, 251
Directions:
we had no problem finding the property with the address given.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out were very easy and we had no problems.

Shana, August

Overall:
This is a very quirky apartment in an awesome location. The bathroom was not in the what seemed like the master bedroom and it made it awkward for our family. Again, great location though.

Enjoyed Least:
Bathrooms, decorations, bedding.
Surrounding Area:
Coliseum was in our sites as we walked out the door
Nearby Events or Locales:
Central Rome.
Tips or Restaurants:
The notebook on the property contained recommended restaurants and we agreed with most of them
Directions:
We had a driver, can't make any suggestions

Took a while to get a hold of the manager. We were an hour early on arrival so they had to clean while we went sightseeing.

Carol, July

Overall:
We had a great experience at this property. It is in a terrific location in the city center and was very inviting.
Enjoyed Most:
Loved the location and the size of the apt. It was quite spacious with two traditional bedrooms and a loft area that my daughter loved, especially since it basically had its own bathroom. The kitchen was very nice and very well equipped. The bathrooms were quite nice and spacious. We especially appreciated air conditioning in all the rooms as it was in the 90's when we were there. The patio is lovely but only an interior view. The kitchen was very well equipped.
Enjoyed Least:
It was a bit noisy. The bed covers could use some refreshing.
Surrounding Area:
The apt. is truly located in a Roman neighborhood. The grocery store and pharmacy are frequented by far more locals than tourists so it is a fun experience to feel a part of the city.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen was very well-equipped and there was a grocery right across the street. Great restaurants very nearby - Naumachia and i Clementi and Li Rioni for pizza. Very convenient to the taxi stand and metro.
Directions:
We had a driver take us to the property and he had no difficulty finding the apt.
Check In Out:
Check in went very smoothly. It is not a hotel so you have to be prepared to call and wait a few (not a long wait at all!) minutes to meet the person handling the check in. There is a lovely cafe right next door where you can get a drink or coffee. Answered all our questions.

Mary, June

Overall:
Great location for visiting the sites. I would stay there again just because it is so well-located.
Enjoyed Most:
The rooms were large, nicely furnished and clean.
Enjoyed Least:
The low ceiling and steps in the back bedroom. The garbage pickup was very early and noisy.
Surrounding Area:
Everything! You can't beat walking a few minutes to the Forum and the Coliseum. And there was a market across the street, which was great.
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed the restaurants right in the area.
Directions:
We had a driver pick us up.

Martha, June

Overall:
We loved Palatina and it was perfect for us due to the layout and the location. Being located above a restaurant/bar and next to the Coliseum it's not the quietest place to stay, but it's well worth it in order to enjoy all that the area around the Coliseum and Forum has to offer.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and the convenience of staying in a real apartment with all the amenities. This gave us the freedom of a flexible schedule.
Enjoyed Least:
The stairs up to the loft bedroom were a bit tricky to negotiate in the dark.
Surrounding Area:
It's exactly what we pictured Rome to be. Being able to look out a bedroom window at the Coliseum was priceless.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in downtown Rome so we were in the heart of the city.
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved the Gladiatore Restaurant that was right next to the apartment.
Directions:
Directions were easy to follow; no issues at all.
Check In Out:
Francesco was great and made the check-in painless.

Joseph, June

Overall:

Li Rinio restaurant down the road does fabulous pizzas.

Charlotte, February

Overall:
Great location one half block from the Colosseo and Forum. Taxi stand around the corner. Grocery store across the street. Many sights in central Rome are within walking distance. The 3 bedrooms were perfect for our family of 6 adults. We loved staying there.
Enjoyed Most:
Especially loved the outdoor terrace. A/C was welcome in all rooms.
Enjoyed Least:
The floors were dirty. Walking barefoot in the apartment produced black feet after only a few minutes. The rest of the apartment, including bathrooms, was spotless.
Directions:
Took a taxi from Fiumicino airport. It's a flat rate of 48 Euros.

Ramsey, June

Overall:
We loved the comfort and convenience of the property. Also the property owner gave us several restaurant recommendations that were awesome as well as a wonderful walking tour.
Enjoyed Most:
The convenience to various sites and the metro station. Easy access to any of the sites.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
Lots of restaurants and sightseeing options.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ask the property manager/owner.
Directions:
We took a taxi from the airport and he had no trouble finding the property.

Dene, June

Overall:
This property is fabulous. The location was excellent. The view of the Colosseum was sublime. The balcony was delightful. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We absolutely loved our stay at Palatina!
Enjoyed Most:
It's difficult to choose one thing. The balcony really made it lovely. Everything was very comfortable. We really appreciated the magnificent view of the Colosseum. It was great being so close to the Metro.
Enjoyed Least:
It was almost perfection aside from the rather loud music that emanated from the restaurant below in the evenings. Even that little quirk was ok for a week, as it added to the charm of the city experience. It might not be so charming for a long duration. I did start to get bothered by the noise, most especially on the weekends when they turn it up another notch. Editor’s Note: The owner has confirmed that there is a bar on the ground floor of the building, but there is no music played by the bar. It can happen that people play their own music, however, especially on weekends. July 2013.
Surrounding Area:
The view of the Colosseum and the close proximity to the Metro station.
Tips or Restaurants:
The prices at the restaurants on the corresponding street facing the Colosseum were high, but worth the experience. The food was good and it was nice to have a decent meal and a drink and be able to walk around the corner to the apartment. The best meal we had in Rome was at an establishment called The Library on Vicolo della Cancelleria 7. It was amazing and very memorable.
Directions:
We used a GPS. It was a little tricky with the one-way streets surrounding the apartment, but we eventually found our way.
Check In Out:
Everything worked out very well!

Kimberly, June

Overall:
Very good.
Enjoyed Most:
Proximity to historic sites, metro, and taxi stands. The apartment was also very comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of ample hot water and the shower drains were slow. In all fairness though, we did not call the owner to complain!
Surrounding Area:
The ambiance of the surrounding neighborhoods.
Tips or Restaurants:
Lots of restaurants in the neighborhood. Take bags if you go to the grocery store as they charge for the bags.
Directions:
We had a hired car take us to the apartment from the airport.

Barbara, May

Overall:
The stay at Palatina was far better than we expected, even after reading the positive reviews. Located within a block of the Coliseum it was the perfect location for a stay in Rome for a party of 5. Highly recommended.
Enjoyed Most:
The apartment was clean, well equipped (DVDs, books), and the TV and WiFi worked well. The patio was a delightful and welcome feature. A well-stocked market was just across the street.
Enjoyed Least:
The layout worked well for us, but one of the "bedrooms" is really a loft in the second bathroom, which has a large tub. This configuration may not work for every party.
Surrounding Area:
All of ancient Rome is within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
There are many good restaurants within walking distance.
Directions:
Our limo service had no problem locating the address.
Check In Out:
The manager met us at the appointed time, and both check-in and check-out were uneventful.

John, April

Overall:
We had a great stay at Palatina.
Enjoyed Most:
It was amazing to look out the bedroom windows and see the Colosseum. It was very handy to have a market literally across the street from our property as well as 4 restaurants on the block, as well as a dozen other eating establishments within a 5-minute walk. A metro station was approximately 200 yards from the property, so you could get around Rome almost effortlessly. There were also bus and taxi stops as well as a currency exchange office within 25 yards of the property.
Enjoyed Least:
The terrace overlooked several other terraces, so there was little privacy.
Surrounding Area:
It offered anything you needed, especially if you wanted a quiet day around the property.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in the heart of Rome.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen was well-equipped. The bathrooms contain blow dryers. Having a washing machine was very handy - apparently there are few dryers in general in Italy, but there was a drying rack and clothes line with pins,we had no difficulty drying clothes.
Directions:
We took a taxi from the train station.
Check In Out:
The owner was very helpful - made sure we knew how to operate the appliances, made restaurant suggestions, made sure we knew about the metro, taxi, and bus locations, and told us to call him if we had any questions. We were not charged extra for using the air conditioning and the units worked well - it was 90 degrees when we were in Rome. The wi-fi worked well. The owner even had a system on the TV in the living room with which you could watch some shows in English if available.

Sherry, September

Overall:
It was nice not being in a hotel. The apartment was well-appointed and in a good location near the Coloseum.
Enjoyed Most:
Being close to the Coloseum.
Enjoyed Least:
Street noisy until late. Mattresses could have been more comfortable.
Surrounding Area:
Nice neighborhood; good restaurants close by and a store across the street.
Tips or Restaurants:
The street that the apartment is on has many good restaurants nearby.
Directions:
We arranged to leave our baggage with the landlord because we arrived early.
Check In Out:
The women cleaning the apt for us showed us around and gave us restaurant suggestions. They were wonderful. We met the landlord when we had trouble with the toilet.

Cindy, September

Overall:
We had a fantastic time in this property. It had everything we needed. Plenty of space. The location is next to the Colloseum. There are grocery store across the road, plenty of good restaurants nearby, and the Metro is minutes away.
Enjoyed Most:
The location is great for sightseeing as the Metro is nearby and the taxi is around the corner. The patio is lovely. It was nice to be able to sit outside for a drink or dinner.
Surrounding Area:
Grocery store across the road, metro station nearby, taxis around the corner, and the big bonus of the Colloseum right outside the door.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Most of the sights of Rome were pretty much in walking distance of the apartment.
Tips or Restaurants:
Restaurant "Le Naumachine" two blocks from the apartment. It was recommended in the guest book in the apartment and we also thought it was one of the best in our location. The food was excellent and the service was entertaining.
Directions:
We took a taxi from the airport. There is a taxi location right around the corner from the apartment. This was very convienent when it came time to go back to the airport
Check In Out:
Federico was very efficient and pleasant. He arrived within minutes of our phone call and told us all the necessary details.

Susan, September

Overall:
Overall experience was positive. We had a great time in Roma and the property and its management only added to the experience.
Enjoyed Most:
Convenience to the older historic parts of Rome as well as other facilities.
Enjoyed Least:
The small bathroom had a step down. We had to watch carefully.
Surrounding Area:
The Colosseum and the Forum. And the local markets.
Directions:
We arranged a driver through management to take us from the airport to the apartment. We had a delay by about 12 hours. RentVillas and local management made all the necessary changes for us.
Check In Out:
Check in was easy. At check-out, the management let us use their storage for luggage while we toured for the day. They even assisted us with carrying the luggage.

Sharon , June

Overall:
Overall we had a wonderful time. The villa is located close to taxis, grocery store, restaurants, and is practically across the street from the Colisseum for a grand view. It was comfortable and roomy with all the amenities we needed.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was great.
Enjoyed Least:
We thought first floor meant ground level but it was up one flight. This might matter to those who have a harder time walking. One night we heard the people upstairs--hard wood floors with no insulation between us and them. But that was one night and it didn't last long.
Surrounding Area:
A grocery store was across the street. The taxi stand which we used frequently was 500 feet from the door. Plenty of restaurants within a few blocks. There is a produce market every morning just a few blocks away. A tobacco shop for metro/bus tickets was one door away. The Colisseum was right across the street practically, a grand view to every day in Rome. The metro and bus stops were close as well. We could get a gelato across the street, and fresh bread, pastry and salami, cured meats within a few blocks.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were smack dab in the heart of the eternal city.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring face cloths if you use them, and bags to bag up groceries. We ate at Osteria dei Bastioni midway between St. Peter's Square and the entrance to the Vatican Museum and it was delicious. Spinach ravioli with tomato creme sauce, capuccino and tiramasu that was wonderful. And the owners were gracious and helpful. We found the cafe Dolce Vita in Piazza Navonna and had a tasty mushroom pizza while watching people walk by. Lovely. We found a corner trattoria near the villa - Luzzie's I believe - that was packed with locals. Good prices, wood grilled pizzas, lots of choices on menu. Be careful of the prices and portions of some restaurants on the streets.
Directions:
The taxi driver took advantage of us, charging us way too much and dropping us off two blocks away. Know where you need to go and have an idea of how to get there.
Check In/Out:
We had some difficulty getting in touch with the key holder as we were confused by the telephone numbers listed on the voucher; we were making a local call, not an international one. We did not have a cell phone and had to use the public phones in the train station.

Denise, November

Overall:
Good. Very convenient to all our outings.
Enjoyed Most:
The location.
Enjoyed Least:
It wasn't very well-equipped.
Surrounding Area:
The restaurants were within walking distance. The buses and metro were so close.
Directions:
We didn't get directions for this property.

Dolores, August

Overall:
We had a wonderful stay at Palatina!
Enjoyed Most:
There was so much room in the villa and it was so well appointed. The kids loved that they had Internet access and we loved how close we were to the grocery store directly across the street and to some good restaurants.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing!
Surrounding Area:
We loved how close Palatina was to the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Metro station. We walked everywhere! Make sure you don't miss the San Clemente church--it was one of our favourite sites.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring good walking shoes! We liked the Divin Ostilia wine bar and restaurant.
Directions:
We really appreciated having the taxi arrangements made for us so when we arrived tired from Canada, we didn't have to worry about finding a taxi and explaining where to go.
Check In Out:
We loved Ms. Rada, she was very sweet and Federico gave us some excellent restaurant recommendations and helpful hints about the surrounding area.

Jane, July

Overall:
Fantastic. This is a very comfortable property, well-located and well-equipped. The key-holder has great English and explained everything well.
Enjoyed Most:
Location is very good, both in terms of being walking distance to major sights, but also in terms of nearby amenities: supermarket, cafes, gelato, restaurants.
Enjoyed Least:
Early morning noise caused by daily deliveries to the supermarket across the street.
Surrounding Area:
The views of the Colisseum, easy access to amenities.
Nearby Events or Locales:
This is in the Celio section of Rome, which is very convenient to much of what Rome has to offer, though farther from the Vatican than other neighborhoods.
Tips or Restaurants:
The immediate Celio neighborhood is good for basic shopping and cafes but is not scenic except for the Colosseum at its northern edge. Don't miss the Cavour neighborhood, which is very nearby, accessed by stairs near the Colosseo Metro station or by via Nicola Salvi.
Directions:
Took a taxi

Peter, April

Overall:
It was wonderful! The owners met us at Tarquinio, the apartment we originally booked, only to tell us that apartment had a problem. They led us to another apartment about 2 blocks away, carrying as much of our luggage as possible. We were very happy with the substitute. It was spacious, extremely well appointed, and only steps away from the Colosseum.
Enjoyed Most:
First of all, we really appreciated the property managers. They were friendly and helpful. Not only did they explain everything in the apartment (Federico spoke English very well), they also gave us maps and made lists of some of their favorite restaurants in the area along with directions how to find them. We were surprised by TVs in every room with English channels, DVD player with a large assortment of movies, and especially the WIFI. Everything worked! Even though we had modern amenities and comfort, the charm and old world character of an apartment in Rome was still in tact. And the location couldn't have been better.
Enjoyed Least:
We had to leave it after only 4 days (the duration of our stay).
Surrounding Area:
The history of ancient Rome was literally steps outside our front door. A grocery store was across the street, and banks and a number of very good restaurants were also within a couple of blocks.
Tips or Restaurants:
We bought European hair dryers once we arrived in Europe for about 10 Euros. They worked very well with no danger of blowing fuses in an old building. Ask Federico about the restaurants. He won't steer you wrong.
Directions:
We took a taxi from the train station.
Check In Out:
Theoowners were extremely friendly and helpful. In addition to showing us everything in the apartment, they provided us with maps and detailed lists of some of their favorite local restaurants. Couldn't have asked for finer hosts.

Sherry, September

Overall:
We loved the apartment. Very clean and well stocked. A lot of room and our son enjoyed the huge jacuzzi tub. Air conditioning in every room was a blessing considering it was 104 some days!
Enjoyed Most:
The local feel. The owner Federico spoke English very well and wrote down the local restaurants to try and those to avoid. Amazing food just blocks away!
Enjoyed Least:
The apartment is a bit dark, as most are because there are no windows on the sides.
Surrounding Area:
Awesome food and wine for 30 euros! We ate out every night. And there was a small grocery store directly across the street and a gelato place as well. Dangerously good!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
We could walk to most everything. The Colosseum is literally one block away and you can see it out our bedroom window. We have a five year old, so we did take taxis a lot and lucky for us there was a taxi stand within 30 steps of the front door!
Tips or Restaurants:
No need to bring anything! The apartment even had converters for the electrical sockets. The satellite TV converted to English speaking as well. My husband even watched a Giants baseball game. And it's stocked with DVD's. As far as restaurants, Luzzi was our favorite. We also loved Li Rioni for the amazing pizza only open at dinner. Wonderful wine store Di Vino Stilia had a great selection and a wonderful lunch menu. Best of all -- the local POOL! Because it was record temps, Federico let us in on a little secret. To the left side of the Colosseum was a local public pool All'Ombra Del Colosseo. For 16 euros you could swim all day and come and go as you please. Life-saver with a five year old!
Directions:
We took a taxi to the property and didn't drive in Rome. But drove to Positano, in Florence and all over Tuscany. GPS - downloaded Italy before we left. Do this before you do anything. My husband drove like a local!
Check In Out:
Federico was very patient with us as we were 1-1/2 hours later then we said we would be because I left my cell phone in the rented car we had just returned. He was so kind and laid back. As far as checking out, we just cleaned up and left the keys on the counter.

Kelly, July

Overall:
Wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
It was comfortable and beautiful. There was a grocery across the street and a wine bar downstairs. There was a hair dryer and an iron.
Enjoyed Least:
Some noisy renovations going on nearby.
Surrounding Area:
Colosseum nearby and plenty of restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
The apartment had everything.
Directions:
We had a driver to pick us up.
Check In Out:
We arrived around 9:30am The renters from the previous week were still there, but the apartment manager assured us they would be out by 10:30am, and the apartment would be clean and ready to use by 11:30am. When we did return at 11:30, the apartment was clean and ready for us.

Peter, June

Overall:
We had a great trip and the villa was excellent. Manager was very helpful. Location was very good for sightseeing. Property was one floor above an outdoor restaurant, which was open late into the night, however we never heard them if the window was closed.
Enjoyed Most:
Location across from Coliseum and outdoor patio for sitting around at end of day. Also close to subway stop.
Surrounding Area:
Forum and Coliseum very close.
Tips or Restaurants:
Watch out for pickpockets on subway. One grocery store across street closes at 8 and a better one about 2 blocks away. ATM about 1 block. Have a good pair of walking shoes with you. We took outlet adaptors and the apartment supplied us with 5 or 6, so you do not need them.
Directions:
We had a driver pick us up at the airport and take us to the apartment. This was arranged by Rentvillas and worked well. Cost was 70 euros and for the 5 of us was cheaper than the train would have been.
