Overall:
I felt I was in a movie. What a beautiful villa. The area is perfect for going on day trips to Rome or Florence. We were met by the owners with a bottle of Prosecco and snacks. They supplied us with a folder about the area and suggestions on dining. They also told us that we had unlimited long distance calling to the US and a GPS for our vehicle with many of the dining and suggested towns already loaded.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything was just beautiful. The villa has everything we needed. It was hard to get us to leave on our planned day trips. I loved the kitchen and we ate there every night. Jude and Richard left us enough food and wine for at least a few days. The patio is very nice for eating outdoors and the views are breath-taking. Looking over the fields to the castle on the next hill was a memory I will never forget. The beds were comfortable and the home is furnished with the owners' African art collection. Each room was a revelation.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing to dislike. Everything was perfect including the weather I don't know how they managed that one, but thanks again.
Surrounding Area:
The hill towns of Bagnoreggio, Sarano, and Pitigilano. We also love the nearby village of Torre Alfina. The gelato at the bottom of the castle is the best. We visited Orvieto as a day trip and shopped for groceries there on our way through to other towns. Ovieto is definately worth a day trip and it is very near, 15-20 minutes.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina, with its castle, is easily within walking distance. There is a walking trail a few hundred yards from the villa that comes out just below Torre Alfina.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a GPS! There are few street signs I never saw any but I'm sure they must be there and once at the villa you can use the one they provide to get to favorite places they suggest. One of the best restaurants was the one overlooking the footbridge to Bagnoreggio di Civita. The terrace dining overlooks the ravine and the bridge to get to the hill town. We ordered 4 different entrees and all were delicious and reasonable. When I asked the waitress where the wild boar we ordered came from, she pointed to the ravine and smiled. Priceless!
Directions:
We had a GPS for our drive from Venice and used the directions from Orvieto that were provided by Rentvillas. Once there we just entered the villa as home on the GPS.
Check In Out:
We were met by the owners, Jude and Richard, and they welcomed us with wine and snacks. Richard showed us around the next morning and gave us a history of the villa and the surrounding area.

Overall:
This was our second trip here and another wonderful experience. Once again, the owner was very generous and most helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
We had just spent a busy week in Rome and it was great to be able to relax and enjoy being at this property. We were traveling with our son and his family and we all loved the space here. My five year old granddaughter said that playing in the large yard was her favorite part of the vacation.
Enjoyed Least:
You do have to drive to the stores and restaurants, but can find the things you need only ten minutes away.
Surrounding Area:
This is just a beautiful area.
Directions:
Yes we did use a GPS to get to the property. The owners also had a GPS that was programmed for several locations which made things very easy for us.
Check In Out:
Everything went as planned.

Overall:
We had a wonderful experience at La Cappella dell'Alfina
Enjoyed Most:
The home is a restored "antique", very lovingly cared for. The owner is very available for questions about the property and the surroundings. There were booklets in the house that had suggested day trips, and suggested restaurants. These were very useful.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room was quite dark. There are few windows in that area of the house, and not much lighting to help out. During the day in summer it was hot and we kept the shutters closed against the heat. This made the interior VERY dark. Only late in the afternoon, when the weather cooled off, could we open up the house to the light. We also had 2 encounters from afar with scorpions. These are not the deadly variety, but are scary nonetheless
Surrounding Area:
The house is well situated for touring. The little neighboring town of Torre Alfina is lovely--great gelato, too! Orvieto is very close by. The little hill towns of Tuscany and Umbria are well within a day's travel.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina was the nearest town. It was not within walking distance--more like a 10 minute car ride.
Directions:
There are no street markers, but the directions were excellent. We did have our GPS, which we brought with us from the States. The owner of the property also has a GPS. I would suggest that once you arrive, you set the location into memory.

Jamie, August

Overall:
Wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The gardens and villa are beautiful. We felt very welcomed by Richard, the owner, and at home in the villa.
Enjoyed Least:
Some barking dogs and gun shots in the morning. It wasn't really a big issue, though.
Surrounding Area:
Lots to do and see. Richard was very helpful, making suggestions, and assisting us in making reservations.
Tips or Restaurants:
The entire area has tons to offer. The hard part is deciding what to do. We liked wine tasting, visiting small quaint towns, small intimate restaurants, going to the beach, visiting castles, etc.
Check In Out:
Richard welcomed us with prosecco, cheese, olive oil, and fresh tomatoes. He described the history of the villa, provided a written guide/house book, gave us a walk about the property, etc. It was amazing.

Joe, August

Overall:
I can only place our experience in the "WOW" category -- this was a first class villa with all the amenities. This is a first class operation from beginning to end.
Enjoyed Most:
Wake up every morning and look up at a castle --- welcome basket provided upon arrival - food stocked for fires, series of meals and wine provided.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing not to love -- wi-fi was a little slow - but we weren't there to use wi-fi!
Surrounding Area:
Perfectly located -- with easy access to Lazio, Umbria, and Tuscany -- all within 30 minute drives.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alifna and Aquapendente were both close. We drove to both.
Tips or Restaurants:
There isn't a bad restaurant in the area -- and Richard, our host, has lots of great suggestions!
Directions:
We did use our GPS -- and it was essential to finding our way through the small towns and villages.
Check In Out:
We were met by the host, filled out a few pages, and were given an intro to the villa -- all handled very professionally.

Clarence, April

Overall:
It was a wonderful experience. The property was beautiful and the views outstanding. The owners live in a separate part of the building but made sure that we had all the privacy we needed. They were so welcoming and generous.
Enjoyed Most:
It is just gorgeous! Everything we needed was there. A great place to relax and be comfortable.
Enjoyed Least:
It is a good distance from the larger cities, but you just have to plan for that and enjoy the smaller towns and villages.
Surrounding Area:
The views and the peacefulness.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Acquapendente. It was about a fifteen minute drive. There was a nice grocery-supermarket there and a few restaurants and coffee shops.
Tips or Restaurants:
I do not remember anything that we wish we had taken. Coming from the States, it took a few days to get use to the fact that most places close down for two to three hours after lunch and reopen later in the day.
Directions:
We did not use a GPS to get to the property. We used the written instructions we had received. Our only problem was some confusion at a couple of the round-a-bouts.

Katherine M., October

Overall:
Wonderful experience. The beauty of the restored farmhouse, the location, the quality of the home and the hospitality of the owners. Could not have been better.
Enjoyed Most:
The garden, outdoor eating area, location.
Enjoyed Least:
A little bit of noise from the surrounding farm where they train hunting dogs, so there was shooting during the early mornings and evenings.
Surrounding Area:
Excellent touring location. A bit off the regular tourist route so not too busy. The villages around the villa are great.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Acquapendente and Torre dell'Alfina - but not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Plan to stay in and cook as the kitchen is wonderful, the outdoor eating area is the best!
Check In Out:
Could not have been better!

Liz, August

Overall:
Fabulous! Beyond expectation!
Enjoyed Most:
Richard! Great host! He took us on a wonderful hike, helped us plan each day's itinerary, made arrangements for us to attend the most amazing cooking class and dinner, told great stories, made us feel like friends. Also loved that there was room for 8 of us. The outdoor dining table under the pergola was wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
Barking dogs at night. I had to close the shutters to block out the noise, but then I'd get too hot with the windows closed. Editor's Note: There are ceiling fans in the upstairs bedrooms and portable fans in the downstairs bedrooms.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful countryside, castle towns to explore, a lake to swim in, woods to hike in, restaurants with the best food I ever ate.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina. Not exactly within walking distance, unless you wanted a half-day hike. Aquapendente was close, too - but not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring earplugs and a small fan if it's summer. Leave room in your suitcase to take home cheese, wine, treasures from town. Ask Richard for restaurant suggestions. Be sure to sign up for Pucci's cooking class!
Directions:
Good directions; We didn't use GPS. Just be sure to arrive in daylight.
Check In Out:
It was hard to say goodbye to Richard!

Linda, July

Overall:
Amazing! I am totally sold on the ease and economy of having a villa.
Enjoyed Most:
The hostess and host, Jude and Richard. Absolutely wonderful! They thought of every comfort and need we could have. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the kitchen was wisely stocked with everything one needs for basic cooking. Shopping in the area was extremely affordable and the location was ideal.
Surrounding Area:
Each of the little villages had a unique charm and we love visiting them. Some we just passed through, others we made friends with restaurant and gelateria owners. The area is a treasure!
Tips or Restaurants:
I left all of our great finds with Jude, but let people know that if they are traveling with children (we had our teenagers) that renting a house with separate rooms for everyone is the best money you will ever spend. The rest of our trip to Europe carried so much tension because we were never apart, but our time at the villa created the space we all needed and everyone got along better.
Directions:
GPS comes in handy, and the owners provide one, but have a map back up as the GPS doesn't always know where you are. Jude's directions were perfect.
Check In Out:
They had sparkling wine waiting for us and made us feel at home immediately.

Betsy, June

Overall:
We have stayed in several rental properties over the years and I must say this was the best. Jude and Richard pamper you as guests - so it is much more than a rental. It starts with the welcome basket of food to cook along with a suggested menu until you have time to go to the store. There were fresh flowers in all of the rooms. Great linens and comfortable beds - all in a fantastic setting in the Italian countryside.
Enjoyed Most:
The house is wonderful. My husband and I took the bedroom downstairs with a private garden door. We enjoyed keeping the door open with the screen shut and waking to the fresh country air and the birds chirping. We had three couples and each enjoyed their private bath and bed arrangements - very comfortable. Jude and Richard supplied us with Internet, a cell phone, GPS and recommendations on local sights.
Enjoyed Least:
All great.
Surrounding Area:
It is beautiful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nothing within in walking distance, but it is a short drive into Acquapendente - which has great shops. Our favorite town was Orvieto. We also did a day travel to Lake Bolsena. Civita di Bagnoregio is a must see.
Tips or Restaurants:
Have at least one night with the recommended cook, Doriana. She was fantastic! How wonderful to have a 4-course Italian meal cooked in your own kitchen complete with wine, service and clean-up. We just sat back and enjoyed. We loved it so much we had her come back a second night. We also did a wine tour with through winetourintuscany.com They picked us at the villa and provided a guided tour of southern Tuscany and great wines and cheeses.
Directions:
Our Garmin had some problems with providing consistent directions - this property is a little off the main path. Once we arrived and set it in our coordinates, we had no problems finding home.

Julie, April

Overall:
Awesome. Our first time out of the country and our honeymoon couldn't have been more perfect. The villa was beautiful. The owners were very welcoming and knowledgeable. The area was beautiful and the quaint, local towns were what you would imagine out of a movie.
Enjoyed Most:
The quiet, serene feeling you get just being there. The decor was perfect. You almost didn't feel like you had to leave, we could have stayed there and never gone sightseeing!
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing...everything was perfect!
Surrounding Area:
The quaint town of Orvieto, cobblestone roads..the amazing cathedral...little shops..ceramics..especially the chocolate!!
Nearby Events or Locales:
I think Acquapendente was closer than Orvieto...but we liked Orvieto better...it was only a 20 minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owner has a booklet with all kinds of suggestions..it just depends what you want out of the experience...we wanted to relax and we definitely got that!! They have a Tomtom programmed for The Best Pizza and it truly was - we ate there twice!! You really don't need to bring anything different then what you would usually pack. The owner has everything you could possibly need, even a cell phone..you just need a calling card.
Directions:
We did not have a GPS until we got to the villa, but we found the property without having to turn around or getting lost. Just definitely drive aggressively.
Check In Out:
The owner was extremely warm and accommodating.

Kevin, November

Overall:
We were treated like royalty by the owners, Jude and Richard, and they were available to answer questions and give advice on restaurants, tours, markets, etc. We had a very positive experience and would happily return.
Enjoyed Most:
The comfort and attention to detail by the owners. The beds were especially appreciated as they had comfortable, American mattresses and very high quality linens. Every convenience was provided including a dock for my Ipod. They provided reading lights in the bedroom and had instructions on how to operate everything.
Enjoyed Least:
The bathroom for the lower level bedroom was one flight up stone steps. They were well lit but it was a slight disappointment that the bath couldn't be on the same floor I realize that given the layout of the home this would be impossible. This was not a large enough problem to prevent me from staying in that same bedroom next time we visit. The laundry room has a very good washing machine but they do not provide a dryer and have a folding rack that you can set up on the outside patio. They do provide an iron and ironing board.
Surrounding Area:
The open countryside and privacy. There were many local villages that offered good food and interesting experiences. The location gives you the ability to explore Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany as they all meet near the location of the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Acquapendente was about 5 miles and Torre Alfina was about 10 miles, Orvieto takes about 20 minutes. This is a location that requires that you have a car to get around. They provided us with a portable GPS to use in our car.
Tips or Restaurants:
The owners provide many suggestions and I would happily go any place they recommended. We had some excellent meals by following their book that they provide for you. If you have an Ipod be sure to bring it. They provide wireless internet service and phone service to Europe and United States. The kitchen comes very well supplied and even has sharp knives and they provide local delicious wine that you pay for out of your deposit. Be sure to bring your electric plug converters 2 pins as you would to any other country.
Directions:
The final instructions that come before you leave gave very detailed directions and we had no trouble finding the property even though it is out in the countryside and not well marked on the road.
Check In Out:
The owner is very professional and gives you a receipt for the deposit that is held until you leave.

Patti, June

Overall:
Our overall experience was wonderful. The house surpassed our expectations as did Jude's hospitality.
Enjoyed Most:
We liked absolutely everything. The owners greeted us with prosecco for our party of eight and had the kitchen stocked with a welcome baskets of fresh, local cheese, wines, bread, eggs, pasta, etc. Everything was done so well.
Enjoyed Least:
There was nothing not to like!
Surrounding Area:
The peace, the rollings hills, the friendly locals, the food, the wine, the proximity to towns in Umbria and Tuscany.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Torre Alfina and Acquapendente. No.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a GPS supplied by the owner. Torre Mare in Torre Alfina.
Directions:
The directions were fine.
Check In Out:
The hosts were very accommodating and welcoming.

Lisa, April

Overall:
I can't say enough about the peace and tranquility of this beautifully restored farmhouse, nestled in the woods and fields of the Italian countryside. We have been to Italy many, many times in the past. This was like being in a movie.
Enjoyed most:
Peace! Privacy! Proximity! Where do we start? We were able to take day-trips (which is really all you need for many famous sites) to Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino and even Assisi, Siena and more, yet make it back in time for leisurely dinners on the vine-covered terrace. And to cool off in the noon day sun, Lago di Bolsena is less than 20 minutes by car. We were also impressed by the fact that the house is so beautifully furnished with original artwork and collector's pieces from Asia and Africa - makes you feel at home. (The beautiful bathrooms were a special treat!) There was also an extensive DVD collection (English and foreign) for lazy evenings.
Enjoyed Least:
Can't think of any. I even enjoyed the occasional "wake-up calls" of local farmers and their hunting dogs in the far distance (though my husband snored through it all).
Surrounding area:
The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens, lovingly attended by the owners. The grapevine-covered pergola provided welcome shade in the afternoons and served as our favorite location for long family dinners. The fact that the garden is surrounded by forest and farmland (the nearest house is on the horizon) means absolute privacy, and allows a storybook view of the castle in Torre Alfina.
Nearby events or locales:
For groceries and other routine shopping needs, Aquapendente is five minutes away. And a hot tip from the owners, the area's best gelato in Torre Alfina - also just minutes down the road.
Tips or restaurants:
The designer country kitchen (no Euro mini-fridge here!) even has its own original brick pizza oven (though we didn't use it). Outside the kitchen door, we could pick fresh herbs for every meal, most of which we ate at home. But the owners can recommend nearby restaurants - and, most importantly, their recommendations can be trusted. The restaurant Il Giulione in Proceno---- is a must!
Directions
We arrived at Fiumicino Airport (Rome) and followed the detailed instructions (down to a fraction of a kilometer!) straight to the house. We happened to have a portable GPS (for Europe) which proved to be extremely useful navigating the narrow, medieval streets of nearby cities such as Siena and Orvieto.
Check-in and out:
The owners were there to greet and show us around. They have a completely separate apartment (separate entrance and drive) which ensured us privacy, but made it convenient whenever we had questions or just wanted recommendations.

August

Overall
Our first sight of the property was literally breathtaking, and that impression grew for us on each approach. The photographs can't do full justice to the beautiful building and spacious grounds. Inside, the rooms and facilities exceeded our expectations, together with stunning views. Eating pasta and drinking coffee or red wine under the grape vines, while watching Umberto herd the cows on the neighbouring property, was wonderfully relaxing. If we wanted help with deciding on the day’s trip, Jude was there, but we spent a blissful week pretending we owned our own glorious villa.
Enjoyed most:
Lovely cool airy rooms inside the farmhouse, a charming and spacious kitchen, so easy to work in; beautiful living areas with interesting art works, superbly comfortable bathrooms and bedrooms, plenty of room. Sitting, eating and drinking in that balmy morning and evening air under the grape vines. Walking around the property - flowers and fruit trees evidence of much love and care. Visiting the amazing medieval towns, Orvieto and Torre Alfina. Taking the train to Florence for the day.
Enjoyed Least:
None. I had expected to find driving a bit intimidating, but with Jude’s handy tips, finding our way around all the nearby towns was easy. The train rides to Rome and Florence from Orvieto were similarly easy. It is a wonderfully convenient location, combined with total rural peace and quiet. The biggest drawback was having to leave, but this inspired us to return as soon as possible.
Surrounding area:
The market at nearby Acquapendente should not be missed, and the drive above Lake Bolsena is enthralling. The clifftop medieval town of Orvieto is the sightseeing highlight, with good restaurants a bonus. Old churches in all the nearby towns are always different, and the thermal bath spa at San Casciano dei Bagni is essential therapy.
Nearby events or locales:
Our walk in the volcanic forest to see the Cahen mausoleum near the medieval castle at Torre Alfina was comparable to being on a movie set. It was the ultimate Italian experience, with fascinating history among unspoilt nature.
Tips or restaurants:
At the Nuovo Castello restaurant in Torre Alfina we had a wonderful long afternoon over pasta & red wine, enhanced by a friendly waiter, but good restaurants abound in the area. We also discovered that the nearby gelateria is famous for good reason!
Directions:
The owner is a great drawer of maps – we never got lost.
