Customer Reviews

Overall:
The people managing the property are first class. Very conscientious and helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
The property is nicely private, but in the same breath a little too far out of the way for our tastes...
Enjoyed Least:
Lack of dining options nearby. We felt the furniture was worn.
Surrounding Area:
Very nice country and pastoral views. The little village of Dudda with their nice restaurant...
Nearby Events or Locales:
No, nothing within walking distance and we couldn't even find the pizzeria that they recommended to us in the town of Lucolena, that is also only open on Fri, Sat and Sunday nights.
Tips or Restaurants:
Our best restaurant in the area was in old town Figline, named Stroncapane Ristorante..... about a 5-8 mile drive from said property.
Directions:
Yes, used our GPS. That should be sufficient.
Check In Out:
No, The management was very amenable.

Bo, November

Overall:
Delightful! We had come from Paris. Lucolena was the perfect contrast to a busy city. Loved the villa. We enjoyed the nearby towns, Greve and Dudda. We enjoyed eating Italian food in Dudda Lucolena, and Greve.
Enjoyed Most:
Enjoyed the quiet atmosphere after sightseeing during the day. The condo was quite spacious, well equipped, nice view of vineyards. We liked the Chianti wine from Leonardo. Nice bathrooms.
Surrounding Area:
Like driving on the curvy roads. We loved Greve. Of course we explored several nearby towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena. Yes.
Tips or Restaurants:
Lucolena has a fine pizza restaurant open on the weekend. Dudda has a fine restaurant.
Directions:
Directions were fine, especially considering that it is a confusing area when you are unfamiliar with it.

Overall:
We had a lovely stay and it was perfect to visit the surrounding areas.
Enjoyed Most:
Location and value for money.
Surrounding Area:
Everything was great.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Not within walking distance.
Directions:
We used a GPS but it was not accurate all of the time so you should use a map as well.
Check In Out:
Everything was fine.

The beautiful views, centrality for nearby sightseeing.

Lucolena, yes--a small hike. Also to Dudda where a good restaurant was located.

Our host provided great info on local restaurants and offered to make reservations for us. Most helpful.

Very professional.

Overall:
We enjoyed it a lot.
Enjoyed Most:
The views.
Enjoyed Least:
Seating in the living room was a little uncomfortable.
Surrounding Area:
The area was just beautiful around every turn in the road.
Tips or Restaurants:
Stop at all the small towns--they all have something to offer, and the people are very nice.
Directions:
I did use GPS, though we really didn't have much trouble finding the property.

Bruce, May

Views, convenience to other cities, and beautiful villages in the area.
Enjoyed Least:
Seating in the living room wasn't very comfy.
Surrounding Area:
Loved all the small villages we visited, especially on market day. Restaurant in Dudda was fantastic!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was within walking distance but we did not feel it was safe to walk on the roads.
Tips or Restaurants:
Be sure to bring coffee filters.
Directions:
We used a GPS and did not have a problem.
Check In Out:
Was smooth and we appreciated all the tips for travel and restaurants.

Claudia, May

Overall:
We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Toni 4! The setting was great, the facilities were wonderful, and the host was charming and helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was excellent. The facilities were great.
Surrounding Area:
The setting--close to Greve, the hills, the olive trees and vineyards, the great wines and foods.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Dudda is the nearest village; yes, it's within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is an excellent large supermarket--the COOP in Figline--which will have everything you need. We loved the little restaurant in Dudda.
Directions:
We were able to find the place without a GPS. The directions worked well.
Check In Out:
Things were excellent. Our host was amazing.

Judy, May

Overall:

Enjoyed Most:
Location.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Dudda is the nearest town, but is not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:

Danny, May

Overall:
Excellent. Our apartment was very comfortable and the setting was beautiful.
Enjoyed Most:
The views. We had breakfast outside and the quiet beauty of the hills was wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
Too many winding roads.
Surrounding Area:
The panoramic views everywhere we went.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Figline was about 9 km away. It was not within walking distance unless you wanted to take a hike.
Tips or Restaurants:
My favorite meal was in the tiny village of Dudda, about 3km away from the house, at a restaurant called Casa al Chianti di Francesca Golino. Very simple, very Tuscan, very nice.
Directions:
We took a few wrong turns until we realized that we needed to look solely for the blue signs. There are many directional signs on the road, and many of them are for commercial properties so we missed the sign for Greve more than once.
Check In Out:
Roxy was charming and helpful. Leonardo was very helpful when we checked out. He even took the parking ticket we received in Lucca with our payment to the post office and mailed it for us when we left.

Gary, October

Overall:
Beautiful! The property is located in a beautiful Tuscan vineyard setting, with views all around. It was very quiet, and like having our own home in the countryside. It was centrally located for visiting the walled cities, Florence, Siena, and other small towns.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and having a fireplace in the villa, which we used almost every night. The outdoor marble dining table and canopy provided a nice setting for dinner with a view. We also really enjoyed learning about the incredible history of the property. We stayed one day on the property to hike up to the old ruins which were the origional village of Lucolena, which date back to 100 AD.
Enjoyed Least:
The showers are very small compared to what we have in the U.S.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed a nice dinner in Dudda, which is close. We also took advantage of driving to the walled cities on several days. We then took the train into Florence and Siena - highly recommend that even if you have a car. Trains are inexpensive, easy to get to in Figline, and spare the headache of parking.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena and Dudda seemed to be equally close. You could walk to them, but they are still about a mile away. We were able to get a few grocery items in Dudda on Sunday.
Tips or Restaurants:
We would highly recommend getting the "official tour" of the property from Leonardo early in your stay if possible. The keyholder who greeted us was fine to check us in and help with directions to places, but didn't do the historical tour of the property--which Leonardo did. On our last day there, Leonardo (grandson of the owner of the property) took us into the rooms that were used to produce olive oil and wine for generations in his family. Wine tastings are even available if you want. We also highly recommend a hot air balloon ride over Tuscany. We took one on Monday from a company called Tuscany Ballooning and they were great! It was a wonderful way to take in the landscape and all the little cities as we floated along. We landed just outside a castle and had breakfast with spumante to top it off. Certainly worth it! Bring a phone, as there isn't one. We also brought music on an iPad.
Directions:
Our GPS did not cooperate for us, and we could not get it to recognize the property. We were thankful to have the written directions, as well. Recommend you bring a map to reference just in case your GPS fails you. Arriving in the daylight is the best way to go.
Check In Out:
They supplied a train schedule, which was very helpful! It would be nice to also have direction on where the train station is in Figline (it's easy only after you know where it is). The local maps and other information supplied at check in were also very helpful.

Mary Ann, September

Overall:
Fantastic.
Enjoyed Most:
Peace and quiet and the views.
Enjoyed Least:
There were a lot of insects (mosquitos and wasps).
Surrounding Area:
The scenery and history.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There wasn't a small town within walking distance. Dudda is the closest, with a smll shop/restaurant where you can buy provisions.
Tips or Restaurants:
Insect repellent. There is a great COOP Supermarket in Figline for all provisions. We found many good restaurants and the food and wine was very reasonably priced. The pick of the restaurants was Villa La Palagina with great food and views to die for. Greve is a great town about 20 mins from the villa where you must visit the butcher,s shop in the main square, Macelleria Falorni--it's sensational. About 10 minutes from the villa heading towards Figline there is the Norcenni Girasole Club which is a campsite. You can park there and get a bus into Florence. You can also book day trips to Pisa, Siena, and Rome, which are very reasonable.

Overall:
We loved it here. We were relaxed. Loved the remote location, but that it was still close enough to have everything we needed.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and the quiet were the best parts. We also really enjoyed using the pizza oven in the common BBQ area.
Enjoyed Least:
The assistant was somewhat rude. Leonardo was awesome, and always seemed more then willing to help us with anything we needed. The assistant was nice on the phone, but when we arrived seemed like she couldn't be bothered to help us with anything, and that we were an inconvenience to her. Such a difference from Leonardo and everyone else in Italy with whom we dealt.
Surrounding Area:
The peace and quite. After touring many big Italian cities, it was very refreshing and relaxing.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Dudda. I guess you could have walked, but there isn't much room for pedestrians.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen has all the bare basics you would need. If you prefer specific items to cook with, you might want to bring your own.
Directions:
The GPS coordinates are a tiny bit off, but they got us close enough. We thought the signs were a really good idea.
Check In Out:
Leonardo was absolutley wonderful.

Trevor , May

Overall:
We had a wonderful time - good weather and lots of things to see as long as you had a car. A restful location.
Enjoyed Most:
It was convenient to drive to see Siena, Pisa, Lucca, Arezzo and an easy train ride to Florence from Figline. We ate lunch out and cooked dinner at the villa most nights and the kitchen was well stocked with appliances and utensils.
Enjoyed Least:
No phone - visitors are expected to bring their own cell.
Surrounding Area:
Marvelous views and friendly people. Roads were lots of fun to drive on - just watch out for the motorcycles!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena was the closest - an easy walk but not much there. We drove everywhere. Dudda was a bit further, but had a neat store.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a cell phone. Good restaurant, Locando Borgo Antico, just on the other side of Lucolena.
Directions:
Definitely good advice to use the autostrada. We had a GPS and it was very helpful.
Check In Out:
Very welcoming!

Ellen , October

Overall:
Wonderful. A very relaxing holiday for the whole family in a beautiful property and location.
Enjoyed Most:
Staff memebers were very welcoming and helpful. Tranquil setting and view was amazing. The apartment Toni 4 was very comfortable with full amenities - especially the kitchen.
Enjoyed Least:
The outside area for this apartment was not as good as the other apartments.
Surrounding Area:
The views were amazing.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Lucolena, the nearest small town, was only approximately 1 km away. Possible to walk but not very safe, given the narrow roads and speed of which people travel. Certainly not at night. You need a car to stay at this property so it wasn't an issue to drive. The locals at Lucolena made our young family feel very welcome.
Tips or Restaurants:
The experience at the local pizzeria-community club in Lucolena was a highlight of our 3 week visit to Italy. It is only open Fri - Sun so plan a visit. It was very basic but you felt very welcome and as though the whole town was there. The apartments were very well supplied. Even with two small children we didn't need any extra equipment, laundry or bathroom products.
Check In Out:
Beware you need 200 euro for deposit in cash. Stop on the way in Figline off the autostrade if you need cash.
