Customer Reviews

Overall:
This was our second time at the property.
Enjoyed Most:
Location, serenity, pool, house...
Enjoyed Least:
Arrived Saturday, but couldn't get A/C issues resolved until Monday or Tuesday.
Surrounding Area:
Ability to visit hill towns in Tuscany and Siena...wine tasting, food...what's not to like?
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti...it' a short drive.
Check In Out:
The folks at check in were very accommodating, but do not speak English...so knowing a bit of Italian helps getting schooled on the ins and outs at the house.

Michael, July

Overall:
Villa Adelina was a relaxing and beautiful location. The rooms were large enough for all, and the furniture was classic. Beams in the ceilings made for a nice ambiance.
Enjoyed Most:
The swimming pool with a view is breathtaking! The water was a bit cool, but we enjoyed sitting by pool in the sunshine, admiring the scenery. The outside views were lovely.
Enjoyed Least:
The doors locked and unlocked with some difficulty. The driveway could use more gravel as rain washed out parts of it.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed Castellina in Chianti...the shopping, and the people were just so friendly. We frequented the gelato place (red building on outskirts of town) often. Just driving around and enjoying the Tuscan countryside was great. We also went to Siena and Cortona, both nice areas.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina Chianti...no, but it was only 10-15 minutes to drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed the restaurant that was about a mile from the villa, La Casina di Lilliano. We had trouble finding parking in Castellina for the restaurants there or we would have eaten there. Parking in any of the small towns was challenging.
Directions:
We used a GPS but the address was not detailed enough to find the winery where we were to check in. It was raining and phone reception was poor, plus language barriers made it difficult to connect with host. But we got there!

Kathy, September

Overall:
Our party of 10 adults had plenty of room, bedrooms with private baths, common areas for every taste (indoor/outdoor), and the ability to do things all together or find some private, peaceful time in the house and on the property.
Enjoyed Most:
Setting was beautiful, peaceful, and conducive to relax and enjoy the property and great pool, yet close enough to hill towns, Siena and Florence to make half day excursions for site seeing and wine tasting. The staff was very responsive when we had an issue and visited regularly to clean up a bit.
Enjoyed Least:
Could have had more seating on the patio outside the kitchen as well as the outside patio off of the second floor...didn't use those areas because of the lack of seating, but they were beautiful. The home was well stocked, except for plastic cups that could be used to enjoy a glass of wine at the pool.
Surrounding Area:
The property was not far from the highway between Florence and Siena, yet isolated so that all one heard were birds and an occasional tractor working the nearby farms. The views from he property were breathtaking.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti was the closest town, and although not within walking distance, very easy to reach quickly. It had wonderful shops and restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a GPS and enter the coordinates. The written directions get you so close, but make it impossible to find the exact spot without a couple of phone calls (I'd be happy to modify the directions). The property had towels to use at the pool, and was very well equipped for 10. The highlights of our dining experiences included having Dora (a local chef) come to the villa and cook dinner for us on two occasions. Besides renting this villa it was the best decision we made. Her meals were authentic, delicious, and bountiful and reasonable. Next time we'll have her every other night.
Check In Out:
Once we finally connected, they made it very easy...just wish the person who met us to walk us through and should us how to use everything spoke English...our Italian is limited and we never did figure out how to get certain things working...yet it was a wonderful, memorable week.

Overall:
Excellent. Beautiful views. Very comfortable accommodations.
Enjoyed Most:
The location. In a great area to visit many small towns and vineyards. The pool is fabulous with great views and resting area.
Enjoyed Least:
Finding the location was difficult.
Surrounding Area:
Wonderful small cities to visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina. Not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Have meals prepared in house. Highly recommended having several meals there.

Bill, June

Overall:
We were very pleased.
Enjoyed Most:
It was what we expected from the information we saw on the web site.
Enjoyed Least:
More outside seating on the porches, balconies would have been helpful; the beds were not the most comfortable.
Surrounding Area:
Scenery, views, solitude.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Castellina - not within walking distance
Directions:
The directions were perfect. We did not use a GPS.
Check In Out:
No problems with check in/check out. The process was smooth.

Nicholas, October

Overall:
Overall our experience was memorable and we truly enjoyed our stay.
Enjoyed Most:
The views, spacious, private.
Surrounding Area:
The beauty, peacefulness, and privacy.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monteriggioni - 10 minute drive and Castellina in Chianti - 15 minute drive
Tips or Restaurants:
For a very casual, local scene - Bar Dell'orso For a memorable dining experience close by - Ristorante Albergaccio in Castellina in Chianti.
Directions:
Directions were good but going there for the first time a landmark of some sort would be helpful.

Jeanne, October

Overall:
We had a very enjoyable time. Villa Adelina is a charming rustic farmhouse in a lovely quiet location, about a fifteen minute drive from Castellina in Chianti. Our stay was from September 13 - 20, 2014, so we did not use the pool. Even though there are no screens on the windows, bugs were never a problem.
Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful peaceful setting. The rustic charm of the building. The large kitchen. The proximity to Castellina in Chianti. The house was clean and the grounds were well-maintained. Plus, there's plenty of space for anyone who wants to find time to be alone. The free wi-fi was a bonus and it worked well!
Enjoyed Least:
The driveway is in poor condition. You need a vehicle with high clearance to negotiate it, so it deterred us from going out in the evenings. The villa has rooms we never used--like the study. It would have suited us better to have a larger living room, but we solved the problem by moving one of the couches from the study to the living room. The bathroom towels are thin, the kitchen lighting is poor, and there are no sharp knives. Editor's Note: New, high quality bath towels have been provided. October, 2014
Surrounding Area:
Castello Brolio, the wine festival in Greve. The towns of Greve, Panzano, Radda, Volpaia and Vertine. Volterra and San Gimignano can be done in a day trip. (It's best to go to San Gimignano first thing in the morning.) We also visited Lucca (1 12 hours away). An interesting town, though their market was a disappointment. Siena was an easy day trip.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti is about a fifteen-minute drive. It's a great little town to explore, plus it has a "COOP" supermarket and fabulous butcher shop. There's nothing within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The towels are thin, but if you won't be using the pool, use the pool towels as bathroom towels. Editor's Note: New, high quality bath towels have been provided. October, 2014. The kitchen was stocked with dishwasher and liquid detergent, sponges, coffee filters and paper towels. There was plenty of toilet paper, but you'll need to bring (or buy) any spices you plan to use, including salt and pepper. There were no sharp knives in the kitchen. You'll also need your own shampoo, body soap, etc. We had a lovely meal at Cantina Squarcialupi in Castellina. We also had Dora cook for us. The price was very reasonable, but it would have been more fun if we could have communicated with her. (She does not speak English.) Editor's Note: Toilet paper, bath soap, dishwasher and washing machine detergents, paper towels, and garbage bags are provided. New, high quality bath towels were also installed in October, 2014.
Directions:
The directions to the property were fine.
Check In Out:
Check in check out was a breeze. A staff member led us to the villa.

Lynette, September

Overall:
Perfect!
Enjoyed Most:
Excellent location, spacious, well-appointed, clean.
Enjoyed Least:
Never really mastered the satellite TV operation.
Surrounding Area:
Scenic. Easy day trips to interesting towns (Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, Siena, etc.).
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina Scalo was an easy, short drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Engage Dora to make dinner on-site. She makes great, traditional Tuscan fare and is very inexpensive.
Directions:
Directions are straightforward. Check in at the winery, and someone will lead you to the property. It is easy to find.
Check In Out:
Check in/out was easy. Go to the winery.

Stephen, October

Overall:
We loved the Villa. Everyone was so very helpful, especially Francesca. The villa was spacious with lots of living spaces, so that if anyone wanted some "alone" time it was an easy option. All in all, we loved Italy and were extremely pleased with the Villa. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is interested in staying in the area. Castellina-in-Chianti is a charming little town with a couple of good restaurants.
Enjoyed Most:
The general feel, the variety of living spaces both indoors and out. We also really enjoyed the 2 nights that Dora cooked for us. Excellent!!!!
Enjoyed Least:
Problems with the refrigerator. Also lack of toilet paper.
Surrounding Area:
We really enjoyed going in to Castellina - a very easy drive. Several good options for restaurants, and of the course, the "COOP" supermarket. Enjoyed listening to the pheasants in the morning and evening.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nearest town was Castellina and it was not in walking distance.

Suzanne, September

Overall:
Just one word: heavenly.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything.
Enjoyed Least:
There wasn't anything I didn't like about the property.
Surrounding Area:
Everyday was a adventure and we throughly enjoyed our stay.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina, it was not walking distance but we were ok with that.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa is fully equipped with everything.
Directions:
The GPS took us right where we needed to be.
Check In Out:
Check in and out were a breeze.

Jill , June

Overall:
Our experience was beyond expectations. We had a little trouble finding our way out of Florence, but once we were on the right road we did just great getting to the villa and traveling around the area.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was cozy and comfortable. With 7 women in our group there was still plenty of personal space. It was very peaceful and relaxing with large sofas and comfy chairs and a dining table large enough for everyone to sit together.
Enjoyed Least:
There was no clothes dryer and that made drying laundry for 7 women a 2-day event. English direction for operating the washer would probably have saved time and water
Surrounding Area:
We loved visiting the wineries and tasting the local wines and grappas. We also enjoyed the views and how easy it was to visit the nearby towns. San Gimignano was about a 30-minute drive away and had many shops and great restaurants.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town we visited was Castellina in Chianti. It had several shops, outdoor cafes, quaint restaurants, food markets for fresh produce, breads and cheese, plus 3 wine stores with tastings on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought a can of coffee, creamer, sweetener, instant cream of wheat/oatmeal, and dried fruit for Sunday morning. We drove about 10 minutes from the villa to the town of Panzano, caught the local bus to Florence where you can spend the day--or catch a train in 2 hours be in to Rome or Venice. Last bus back to Panzano is 8 PM.
Directions:
There are many roundabouts to navigate in getting to the villa, so it's helpful to have a navigator who can read the many signs so the driver can managae the traffic.
Check In Out:
Check in and out went smoothly even though the person at the cantina did not speak english. She came back on Friday morning and returned out security deposit.

Karen , October

Overall:
We had an excellent experience. We loved the villa.
Enjoyed Most:
It was a true Tuscan villa in the middle of nowhere.
Enjoyed Least:
A little hard to find.
Tips or Restaurants:
We traveled to eat each day but found the local cook, Dora, to be very good.
Directions:
We had to call because we couldn't find the office at the winery; the woman I spoke to spoke only Italian (and luckily, so do I).
Check In Out:
Check-out was great! No issues.

Vincent, September

Overall:
There were 8 of us and we all loved this villa. Very roomy and each of us had our own bathroom. The kitchen was well-stocked with pots and pans, glassware, etc. If you wanted your own space then that was so easy as there were many places to go. There is a lovely patio off the kitchen but no furniture. The villa is better in real life than in the pictures!
Enjoyed Most:
The spaciousness, the location in Tuscany; the staff answered all of our questions and were very friendly when we went to the office.
Enjoyed Least:
We understood that we were in a different country... but we never seemed to have enough toliet paper. When the cleaning folks came in I don't think they even checked. We did not realize that this was our responsibility.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the location as it was easy to get to so many of the wonderful hill towns. We adored Castellina. The villa is hard to find originally, however they escort your from the key pick-up location place to the villa and explain everything.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina-in-Chianti is the closest town and NO, it is not walking distance. Very windy road.
Tips or Restaurants:
As I previously stated, renters could bring coffee, salt/pepper, and any herbs if you are doing alot of cooking, like we did.
Directions:
We brought a GPS but didn't use it to find the villa. It came in handy for other areas.
Check In Out:
We met at the winery and were greeted with a wine tasting and snacks. Fabulous--it was quick and easy.

Patti, September

Overall:
This villa is spacious, peaceful, and beautiful. Our families loved our stay here, and would return in the future.
Enjoyed Most:
The incredible views and the luxury of having your own swimming pool at your disposal were like a dream. It is kept up in stellar condition--the caretakers, a married couple, work very hard to maintain it. They cleaned the pool every day. Several bottles of the wonderful wine from the winery on the owner's property are left for you to taste, which we really enjoyed. We visited and toured the winery, and purchased several more bottles.
Enjoyed Least:
The lack of air conditioning in the evening and morning (the air conditioning only runs from noon-8 PM and ONLY upstairs) made it very difficult to sleep. They assume you will open the windows during the night, but with the amount of biting bugs, lizards, and snakes this is not always the best option with windows that have no screens on them.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the wineries and local villages, and the close proximity to so many places--Siena, Florence, Lucca, Pisa, just to name a few. The smaller towns, such as Radda and Volterra, are fun to explore as well.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti is very close, and a charming village. There are several small towns nearby in which you can do grocery shopping or find good restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
You will need grocery bags for the local markets--they will only provide 2 plastic bags and it is easier to carry your items in reusable bags. Depending on the length of your stay, you will need soap, toilet paper, shampoo, etc. They don't leave enough for one week's stay. Also, we recommend having Dora the cook make a meal for you--her food is excellent, and it is so nice to be able to stay in the villa and not go out. The only problem is Dora speaks no English, so she was very shy and wouldn't communicate with us. We were lucky to have one person in our group who could speak some Italian, and so she was able to translate for us and Dora was much more friendly and open once she could speak through her to us. Dora's zucchini dish and her tiramisu are not to be missed!
Directions:
We had some difficulty finding the offices for the villa, and then checking in. The directions we received were confusing, and the woman who normally manages the property was away on vacation. A call to her phone went to her husband, who only spoke Italian. So, this was a difficult arrival for us.
Check In Out:
We had difficulty checking in, but I believe this isn't usually an issue. The woman who normally does this was on vacation, and so other employees of the villa had to do her job. We met with a woman (Juliana) at the winery to pay and do paperwork, and her English was good. She was helpful, but very busy trying to run the winery. The couple who cleans the villa were there to greet us, however, they spoke no English at all. They were extremely warm, friendly, and kind though, and did an excellent job cleaning the huge property. Luckily, one person in our party spoke some Italian, so we were able to find out some things we needed to know about the property and checking in. Otherwise, we would have been lost.

Jon, July

Overall:
Wonderful. We loved the house and staying there.
Enjoyed Most:
Being in Tuscany.
Enjoyed Least:
Finding the location.
Surrounding Area:
It is gorgeous!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castelina in Chianti was not within walking distance - and the road was pretty busy and narrow for walking anyway.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring fewer clothes. We had a cook and also cooked ourselves some nights. This location would not be as good for someone who wants to go out to eat more often. The other issue is Internet. We have grown dependent on it and going to the reception office was somewhat of a pain. On the other hand, as much as I would have liked easier Internet access, perhaps it was better that i didn't!

Roger, June

Overall:
It was good. They had a problem with the gas which meant we had no heat until Monday morning. Luckily, we are Canadian! They felt very badly about this and did what they could to make amends--some extra cleaning during the week and apparently no charge for final cleaning.
Enjoyed Most:
Spacious, quiet, nice view.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was well equipped with pots etc but was awkwardly laid out.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina in Chianti. A short drive, but very nice.
Tips or Restaurants:
Antiqua Del Torre in Castellina is nice. As others have said, a Garmin or equivalent GPS unit is a must.
Directions:
Quite tricky. Would not have made it with paper directions only.

Bill, April

Overall:
Wonderful. The property was beautiful, well cared for, and very comfortable.
Enjoyed Most:
The seclusion, privacy and beauty. It was also very quiet in the house.
Enjoyed Least:
Can't think of anything we didn't like.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful, but still close driving distance to services.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Castellina Scalo was the closest small town.
Tips or Restaurants:
Your planning guide was quite useful. We all stopped at the COOP and picked up essentials. We hadn't counted on there not being much soap, however. Just one very small hotel size per bathroom, so we had to pick up more the next day. Also, no face clothes, so that's something we'd bring next time. What worked well for us was to each pick up picnic items for Saturday night that we could pool into dinner. That gave us a nice, relaxing first night in the Villa. The second night we had dinner cooked for us by Dora, who did a wonderful job. Having those two nights with dinner handled was really nice.
