Customer Reviews

Overall:
Our group of 19 adults had a wonderful experience at Villa Asteria 1 and 2. The Villas are located in a quiet neighborhood with easy access by a path to the beach. Our host, Theo, went above and beyond our expectation, helping us find great restaurants, plan excursions, arrange for a cook, locate other nearby beaches and points of interest, and even assisting with a car rental issue.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was perfect. We enjoyed the pool everyday after day trips by car and ferry boat to ancient sites and nearby islands. There were quiet spots on the verandas to read, and Theo had placed two outdoor tables together at one villa so that we could all dine together. We ate outside every evening and cool breezes made the air conditioning unnecessary at night. The houses and grounds were beautifully maintained, and the flowering plants in the landscape added to the idyllic atmosphere.
Enjoyed Least:
As mentioned in the property description, each villa had two bedrooms on the ground level which were smaller and did not have en suite bathrooms or views enjoyed by the upper floors. However, those rooms were still very comfortable and had separate bathrooms.
Surrounding Area:
The nearby beaches were wonderful. The water taxi to Spetses was a very short drive away and ran all the time. We also did day trips to Hydra and Monemvasia by boat, and Epidaurus, Mycanea, Naplio, Poros, and a great little winery by car. Several members of the group rented kayaks at Poseidon Sports in Porto Cheli.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Porto Cheli and although only 10 minutes away by car, the hills were a bit daunting for a walk to town. However, the hills provides lovely walks for exercise!
Tips or Restaurants:
We cannot say enough good things about our cook Hermione, whose restaurant in Porto Cheli, Salt and Pepper, serves traditional Greek food with attention to seasonal ingredients and fresh herbs. She cooked for us twice each week at the Villa and we also ate in town at her restaurant. On our excursions everyone enjoyed a range of wonderful food. We also especially liked Water of Love on Spetses (a five minute water taxi trip away). Porto Cheli had wonderful bakeries for bread and desserts. There were two grocery stores easy to reach with very helpful staff.
Directions:
The first day the property owner met us in Porto Cheli and drove us to the Villas because even with a GPS the unnamed roads were a bit tricky. Theo then provided us with a detailed map of the area, and we had no problems. We were glad to have him escort us that first day. The GPS worked very well getting us to other destinations. The windy roads have spectacular views, and driving was quite an adventure.
Check In Out:
The check in/check out process was extremely smooth. Again I must compliment the key holder, Theo, for his kindness and thoughtfulness. He spent a long time with us ensuring that we had settled in, and came back the next day to make sure we had found everything.

Overall:
I haven't been as relaxed in years! Our two weeks of leisure pampered my soul. Even walking across the floors was a tactile joy.
Enjoyed Most:
The terrace off our bedroom and its view of sky, sea, and islands - marred only by an unfinished house which blocked part of the view. Yet watching the martins swoop through the window openings was rather magical. And the lantana and bougainvillea were gorgeous.
Enjoyed Least:
The lot was rather cramped. I'm not accustomed to being that close to other houses. Also - while not a property issue - I found the amount of garbage littering local roads and beaches to be upsetting.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery and the choice of beaches and the food and the congenial people. EVERY person we encountered was helpful and friendly. And the color of the water defies description.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Porto Cheli - not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Great restaurant--Salt and Pepper in Porto Cheli. My Market on the road to Kranidi has everything. Hair dryers are provided at the property. Be prepared to drink only bottled water. Recycling at AB Market in Porto Cheli.
Directions:
We used a GPS with location lat/long provided by Theo, the owner.
Check In Out:
Theo, the owner, was a paragon of helpfulness. We've rented many houses in several countries and states - no one matched him for thoughtfulness and personal attention. When we reunited after two weeks, it was like seeing an old friend.
