Customer Reviews

Overall:
Our group of 3 couples spent a week in late October at Villa Cometa. After a stop in Naples, the villa was very relaxing. It offers a great location--in Positano but far enough away from the city center to be isolated from the crowds. The price for that was the walk into town down and back on the very steep steps other reviews have mentioned. The views from the upper flow terrace are spectacular. We arrived on the last weekend of the season and Positano was still very, very crowded. But from Monday on the town was more relaxed and accessible. The only downside was that a number of restaurants and shops were closed. Overall, a wonderful experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and the convenience of grocery and wine shops nearby. Hotel Gabrisa next door is also a convenient bar and restaurant with very good service.
Enjoyed Least:
The dish washer and washer dryer take some getting used to. But overall, all of the facilities were good.
Surrounding Area:
The sights and shopping in Positano can be covered pretty quickly, so some trips outside are a good change of pace. We hired a car and driver for a day trip to Ravello and enjoyed it. Beautiful views from Villas Rufolo and Cimbrone. We also visited Sorrento on the way to Positano and enjoyed it much more than Naples.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You are right in Positano up the cliff from the beach and town center. Although it's probably less than 3/4 of a mile linearly, the steps make it a good workout. It's a more gentle but longer walk to follow the road through its switchbacks to the beach but it is narrow and there is a lot of traffic.
Tips or Restaurants:
Hotel Gabrisa next to the Villa is a great bar and restaurant and we loved the staff there. We also really enjoyed the restaurant Next2. We ate there twice because the food and service as so good. Also enjoyed lunch at Bucca di Baco on the beach.
Directions:
We used a car and driver for the transfer from Naples to the Positano and the driver called Paola the property manager for perfect directions
Check In Out:
The property manager was terrific. Check in was quick and easy and she was always accessible by text or WhatsApp for questions and suggestions. We really appreciated her help.

Overall:
It was fantastic! It was very quiet, clean and well appointed. The manager was most helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
The outdoor patio areas and the amazing view of the sea.
Enjoyed Least:
I wish it wasn't overlooking a roof, but you can't have everything.
Surrounding Area:
Enormously charming and beautiful surroundings with amazing views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Everything is within walking distance, and if going to restaurants or other towns there is a shuttle service or ferries.
Tips or Restaurants:
Our favorite restaurant was Il Ritrovo where they picked us up by shuttle. It was an amazing experience. The food was absolutely delicious!

Overall:
Very good.
Enjoyed Most:
We liked the private feel although you are nestled in with other houses and hotels, you feel separate.
Enjoyed Least:
The set up of the bedrooms on the second floor is odd - you have to walk through bedrooms to get to others unless you walk on the outside balcony and leave the balcony door into the house open.
Surrounding Area:
Restaurants and town are easy walking distance. Easy to get to beach although steep path back up.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Praiano - not really easy walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Hotel Villa Gabrisa just down the steps is excellent - also enjoyed eating at Max - many good restaurant choices.
Directions:
Directions were good.

Overall:
It was nothing short of amazing. Completely far exceeded my expectations. It was everything and more then what I was looking for. From the exceptional care provided to us from the beginning from Mary Kate to our arrival and greeting by Paola, it set the tone for what turned out to be an unforgettable dream holiday.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was simply perfect. The amenities are what you would expect from your home away from home. The care and attention to detail again provided by Maria and Paola was exceptional. The views were spectacular, the rooms were large and very comfortable. We decided to stay in two nights and cook. The local butcher, produce, and fish merchant were in close proximity and reasonably priced.
Enjoyed Least:
I honestly cannot say that there was anything within the property that I didn't like. We knew what we signed up for in regards to the number of stairs to get up to the villa and down to the beach. But it's Positano. The buses were extremely convenient and at 1.80 euro worth every bit. The WiFi was intermittent and didn't work in every room which again was absolutely fine. The only thing missing from the villa was music.
Surrounding Area:
It was extremely convenient to get to the beach, stores, town. I would have to say it was the perfect location to everything.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You would need tohire a car or take a bus
Tips or Restaurants:
Chez Black is a landmark down by the water. I would recommend Tattoria La Tagliata for a great dining experience. They will send a car for you and your party. Authentic farm to table local cuisine. Prepare to spend at least 2.5 hours. They even take you in to the kitchen to meet and have pictures with Mama. No menu.. didn't know what it would cost until we got our bill. The best 45 euro a piece I spent. Great experience.
Directions:
He hired a driver and he had no issues.
Check In Out:
Both were extremely seamless.

Overall:
We loved Positano and the property and location did add to the experience. We spent most of our time in the kitchen and outdoors.
Enjoyed Most:
Location and views. The bedrooms were beautiful... also the bathrooms. The maid service was very much appreciated!
Enjoyed Least:
We did not find the living area to be comfortable. There were no English language channels on the TV.
Surrounding Area:
What's not to like!? Location into Positano convenient, especially with the bus stop so near. Restaurants so near were wonderful!
Nearby Events or Locales:
We did several tours, but did hire a private tour company.
Directions:
We did not drive at all. Directions were perfect.

Cathy, May

Overall:
We had a very positive experience. We spent most of our time in the kitchen or outside areas. The villa and Positano is not an easy area to get around, so be sure you are ready to walk and climb steps.
Enjoyed Most:
Location. It is centrally located in Positano. It seems that Positano is centrally located in the Amalfi coast and easy to take side trips to the other towns. The view from the top floor bedroom area is wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
The main level outside areas are very nice but the view is blocked by a building. Internet service is spotty.
Surrounding Area:
The view from the bedroom balconies is fantastic. There is a very good restaurant located at the bottom of the villa's steps. The entire area is very picturesque.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in Positano and very close to steps to the shopping and restaurants, as well as, the bus stop that takes you to those areas if you do not want to walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
RentVillas guidelines provide good suggestions. The kitchen is well equipped. Need detergent for the washing machine. There are hairdryers in every bathroom. Renters should seriously think about hiring porter service since there are 50 steps up to the villa and more inside.
Directions:
We had a hired driver from Rome so we had no problem. Parking is very difficult.

Overall:
An enjoyable stay at Villa Cometa in beautiful Positano! Location, location, location... it's perfect. High enough for amazing views and a hotel with restaurant at bottom of steps with great breakfasts and dinners or for a glass of wine! The villa was comfortable for our group of 6 with plenty of room. The villa is dated (which is no surprise considering its age), but the beauty of the area makes up for it. The bedrooms are huge and beds were comfortable. I would have enjoyed more dcomfortable furniture in the living room to gather with our friends. We spent all of our time in the kitchen.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and views are amazing!
Enjoyed Least:
The living room furniture was not terribly comfortable; we spent not time in there. The terrace could use some weeding.
Surrounding Area:
The access to the bus and the hotel just at the base of the steps of the villa. Walk down the hundreds of steps to the beach (there is an area that is a winding walkway when you get low enough), then just hop on the bus for the ride back to the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Positano, You are there! The ferry at the beach takes you over to Capri. You can also travel to Amalfi by boat or hire a driver from Persico Car Service to get anywhere (Amalfi, Sorrento, Ravello) and they will also stop for great lunches and tell you all about the area! Highly recommend their service.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure to bring converters if coming from the states. Recommend shopping at the grocery store in Sorrento on the way to the villa. Would bring an ipad if wanting to watch news or Netflix since the villa has no English speaking channels. The Gabrisa hotel has great breakfast and dinnersdesserts. Also recommend Da Vincenzo which is just down from the many steps and a short walk down the street.
Directions:
Persico driver took us right there from Rome. They were waiting for us for check in. The driver also took us to Naple's airport upon leaving the villa.
Check In Out:
Highly recommend paying to have your luggage taken up the 55 steps to the Villa. Stop and get groceries before you arrive since no real grocery stores close by.

Carrie, May

Overall:
Exceeded our expectations.
Enjoyed Most:
Location close to everything.
Enjoyed Least:
The mattresses were firm.
Surrounding Area:
Sightseeing, beach, food, shopping relaxing at the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Positano. Down the stairs was a restaurant. Grocery, wine sho and cheese shop all just steps away.
Tips or Restaurants:
Renters should know they have to provide their own toiletries, soap, dish detergent, paper towels, toilet paper. Worth it to have these things delivered ahead.
Directions:
Directions were given when we got close by the property manager.

Shelley, September

Overall:
Fantastic week in heavenly Positano.
Enjoyed Most:
It was very spread out and comfortable for my group of 11.
Enjoyed Least:
The stairs were a challenge for my 75 yr old mom.
Surrounding Area:
Having a home base to enjoy all that area has was wonderful. We loved going to Capri on the boat we chartered for the day. Also, we took a cooking class and that was a treat.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ate at our favorites - Casa e Bottega, Chez Black, Da Vincenzo, Da Gabrisa. All very good.

Dalina, June

Overall:
Overall this villa is outstanding. Paola is the bomb! She provided outstanding guidance throughout the visit. We were there a week. The villa is 2 floors with a mother in law suite detached. We had 6 people, which included 1 couple so everyone had a room with a view. Upstairs is basically all bedrooms that share a big balcony with amazing views. Downstairs are living areas and the dining room. We didn't use the downstairs at all. Like never. The kitchen is on a mezzanine between floors. It was very large and had modern appliances. It also had the view. We washed clothes frequently so it was nice to have the machine. The villa is adjacent to a nice little restaurant/hotel. The villa is located up high on the hill, with a one way road winding all the way down to the Grand beach. We were traveling with 2 grandmothers, and they did fine walking up the stairs to the villa from the street. However, be warned. Use the bus or taxi back up from the beach. Its a hike straight up. There were plenty of cabs available at all hours. The bus was usually a wait. We ate at a different restaurant every night and most nights walked down the the restaurant and took a cab home. Shopping and food are all super close by. The villa is in an outstanding location. All of the bedrooms had wonderful glass french doors that opened to the view. We left them open most of the time except in the hottest part of the day. The air conditioners will only work if the doors are closed. They also had a unique shutter system so you could have the door closed and open the shutters. Pretty cool actually.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and spaciousness of the villa are superb. We sat outside every night and had drinks. You just can't get tired of seeing the beautiful ocean and mountains. And I have to say Paola. She was wonderful.
Enjoyed Least:
The downstairs. Living areas don't exist on the second floor, but who cares.
Surrounding Area:
Restaurants and shopping, along with a local market just steps away.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We did pop over to Sorrento for the day but it is a 30 minute car ride away. We also rented a beautiful boat for the day to tour Capri and see the Blue Grotto. I highly recommend that and Paolo can help (like she did for everything else we asked!)
Tips or Restaurants:
I highly recommend the boat tour. We were 6 people and rented the La Lucia. It stated it could hold 12. It can't! But 6 was perfect. It was only 1100 US for the entire day! Captained and all the wine we could drink. Amazing value. I would NOT rent a car, even though the villa has a garage. You can walk everywhere and taxi or bus. Bring lots of electrical adaptors. They are cheap and you can never have too many. Hair dryers were in the villa.
Directions:
Spot on directions.
Check In Out:
ALl extremely professionally handled by Paola and the staff at RentVillas.

Bill, June

Overall:
Our overall experience at Villa Cometa was excellent! The views are lovely, especially on the second level where the bedrooms are. There is great outdoor space for soaking up the sun, eating, and enjoying the weather and plenty of room for our toddler to stretch her legs. Beautiful flowers as well.
Enjoyed Most:
The bedrooms are great, very roomy with lovely views. And the outdoor space is ample for relaxing and enjoying the weather.
Enjoyed Least:
There is no powder room on the main level of the house. Our babysitter used the small bedroom on the main level with a bathroom, so we didn't feel comfortable using her bathroom which meant we had to go upstairs each time. Also, the steps up to the villa can be challenging after a long climb up from town/beach.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the spectacular views, the Island of Capri and the Blue Grotto, the beach in Positano, the food and wonderful restaurants in town, the GELATO was terrific, the French bakery at the beach. It was fun renting a boat for a day and cruising up the shoreline.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Positano is the town which was within walking distance of Villa Cometa. Of course, you need to have strong legs and good knees to navigate all of the steps up and down to/from town.
Tips or Restaurants:
We liked having the Villa stocked with cheese, wine, snacks breakfast items before our arrival. This made is easy for us to relax after we unpacked. We enjoyed La Tres Sorrel restaurant at the beach and a coffee/breakfast place at the pier for French pastries and coffee.
Directions:
Best landmark to find the property is the hotel next door (Hotel Gabrisa?). That's what we used to direct our taxi with no problem. We were driven from Naples to Positano and back via a car service.
Check In Out:
Paula was excellent and we had a smooth transition in and out. We had a Pizza Party on our last night at the Villa. The chef was outstanding and he went all out to provide a fabulous evening and TONS of delicious pizza for us. At 550 Euros it was steep, but we all felt that given the amount of the effort and wonderful pizza, it was well-worth it.

Gretchen, May

Overall:
We were a group of 11 and enjoyed our breakfast and before dinner cocktails on the terrace.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was perfect.
Enjoyed Least:
The stairs were challenging but we got the hang of it and were in better shape by the end of the week!
Surrounding Area:
Many restaurants and shops easily accessible.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Positano and yes, we walked down to the center many times.
Directions:
We had a driver so we had no problem
Check In Out:
Definitely enlist the aid of a porter to help with the luggage checking in and out because of the stairs.

Rosanne, October

Overall:
Very pleasant because of the beautiful architecture and good weather that enabled us to be outside in the garden.
Enjoyed Most:
The view, the architecture.
Enjoyed Least:
All the steps.
Surrounding Area:
Gorgeous, scenic layout of the town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in Positano. It was walkable for an able-bodied person. Lots of climbing involved.
Tips or Restaurants:
Too many good restaurants and shops to mention.
Directions:
We had a driver from the airport.
