Customer Reviews

Overall:
It was a wonderful stay. The owners were very helpful and the views could not be beat.
Enjoyed Most:
The peace and quiet and the gorgeous views.
Enjoyed Least:
Would have been nice to have an American coffee maker.
Surrounding Area:
Lots to see and do either by just walking or taking day trips. Good restaurants nearby.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Massa Lubrense is a short walk (15 min) either to the marina or if you are fit, to walk up the hill and into town (about 30 min.)
Tips or Restaurants:
Everything we needed was at the house. Bring good walking shoes if you are going to go into town. The restaurants down at the marina are great and the meals were fantastic.
Directions:
Had a driver and they had no trouble finding the place.
Check In Out:
Owners were great with both the check in and check out. They were a delight to speak with and had a wealth of information on the surrounding area.

Overall:
Extremely attractive pool area and views to Capri. Beach below is decent for swimming. Cooks were amazing. Staff overall wonderful. Owners and coordinators were great support and lovely people.
Enjoyed Most:
All the above
Enjoyed Least:
Probably just the irritable neighbours who are just sick of tourists coming into their haven. Also, in terms of location its narrow winding road down to town a bit tricky to navigate. Location is away from any action - but we loved that!!
Surrounding Area:
Local town 15 min walk has very well priced restaurants. Cute but by no means spectacular compared with other towns along the Amalfi. Can hire boats to Capri and surrounding area from Massa rather than have to go to Sorrento.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Massa Lubrense village.
Tips or Restaurants:
Hire chefs as it's so well priced and the food is very fresh. Restaurants in Massa Lubrense are very well priced if you prefer to eat out.
Directions:
GPS will find the location, but its narrow road down to the bottom. This property is right at the bottom of the winding road.
Check In Out:
Owners are very friendly and lovely and speak English well.

Overall:
This is an extraordinary property. Spacious, spectacular views, with great access to beach and within an easy and flat walk to Marina Lobra for dining out.
Enjoyed Most:
The views (from Capri to Naples with Ischia and the entire Bay of Naples in between), and the open, airy and spacious layout.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
This is a terrific base for exploring the Naples-Amalfi area without being too close to the heavily touristy Sorrento area.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Marina Lobra was a short 10-15 minute walk along a very easy (and attractive) path along the water. There are a few (very solid) restaurants, a bar and a small grocery, as well as private boats to Capri, Sorrento and Amalfi. This was a pleasant surprise
Tips or Restaurants:
Taking a private boat from Marina Lobra to Capri instead of going to Sorrento. Much faster and more convenient and pleasant, if a bit more expensive.
Directions:
No. But do not rent a large car or van - it is a very small and winding road down to the property. Anything larger than a standard station wagon would be difficult. We rented a Volvo V90, a largish station wagon and it was fine. Another family nearby rented a large 7 person Mercedes van and it was a huge headache for them.
Check In Out:
No - the on-site representative from the local agency was delightful, helpful and accessible.

Overall:
Magical. The villa is gorgeous with amazing greenery and is kept beautifully. The owners were incredibly sweet and helpful and even drove us to town to get groceries one day.
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds. They are gorgeous. The view is of the island of Capri on the left and Naples in the right. The sunsets were amazing!
Enjoyed Least:
The beds were not comfortable and the shower in the annex and tower guest rooms were very small.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nothing was in walking distance unless you are in incredible physical shape. The road up to town is a very long aims winding steep hill.
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved Angela's for pizza and drinks at the Marina which you can walk to from the villa along the coast there is a cement path. We also enjoyed La Terna and Red Lion in Sorrento .
Directions:
We had a driver pick us up at the airport. We arranged tours through RentVillas.
Check In Out:
Very easy on both ends of the trip. No problems at all.

Faith, October

Overall:
Our family had a great time at the villa. It was like our little slice of heaven enjoying beautiful views from every vantage point, dining outdoors, walking down to the beach and the fishing village close by. Our little granddaughter had fun in her own playground which was a delightful surprise.
Enjoyed Most:
We enjoyed the spaciousness of the bedrooms and the indoor/outdoor feeling. The best sunsets were experienced out by the pool and that million dollar view.
Enjoyed Least:
Our family always congregates in the kitchen and for the size of the villa it was quite small. The washing machine was great to have but drying our clothes on one rack and draped over outdoor chairs wasn't practical.
Surrounding Area:
My husband really enjoyed swimming at the beach everyday and the private access. The restaurants at the fishing village were great too.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We stayed in Massa Lubrense or drove into Sorrento for the train to Naples or ferry to Capri. We didn't walk the hill to the market just for safety reasons.
Tips or Restaurants:
I highly recommend bringing mosquito repellent or buying several VAPE (plug in type) for each bedroom. If you are allergic bring an antihistamine. You do not need extra beach towels or salt, pepper, sugar, unless you plan to be cooking yourselves. Most of the pantry was stocked with olive oil, balsamic, paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap etc. If you hire the 2 cooks they shop and bring everything. We ate at Michele's at the fishing village.
Directions:
We took a cab from the town of Sorrento and the cab driver knew the villa. My son had a GPS but ended up in someone's private driveway not far from the property but after the first time, it's fairly easy. My husband actually took photos of the turn off and then again where you can easily get off course and texted them to my son. Landmarks are good.
Check In Out:
The owners are very nice and pleasant people. They know the house very well as they used to occupy it. The daily housekeeper is necessary because he does tidy up and it's a huge villa with grounds that need to be maintained. The book that provides instructions is thorough and just making sure everything is in order prior to check out. Both check in and check out was efficient.

Overall:
Overall, good. We had a very nice time.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was smaller than we would have liked. It doesn't have an ice maker.
Surrounding Area:
We only walked down to the beach and into the marina. It was nice to be able to swim nearby.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The area near the marina. About a 15-20 min walk I think.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would tell them to bring towels, clothes line. I would also recommend renting a boat to tour Capri, Positano, etc. Bring some snorkel equipment.
Directions:
I recommend always getting a driver or taxi. I do not recommend any non-locals driving in the area.
Check In Out:
Be sure to get clear instructions on trash disposal and laundry.

Overall:
Villa Flora was a delightful experience for our family and friends. The location is spectacular, and we were able to use this villa as a base camp for our adventures along the Amalfi Coast. The expansive patios offer plenty of sunsets and sunrises and full view of Capri. This waterfront location and the pool gave us plenty of opportunity to cool off in the hot August temperatures. We would stay there again.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and the beautiful Italian ceramic tiles on the floor in every room. The villa is surrounded by a dazzling garden with lemon trees, grapes, and olives. We even picked some lemons to use for cooking. Also, the waterfront, private access is very nice.
Enjoyed Least:
The number of stairs. This is NOT a home for anyone with knee problems or disabilities of any kind. It takes seven flights of stairs just to get to the main floor. Throughout the home there are numerous stairs in and out of bedrooms, patios, kitchen, etc... There is only a European-style washing machine (long cycles) and no dryer; be aware.
Surrounding Area:
We were seeking a vacation on the Amalfi Coast, and were glad to be in Sorrento. It's closer to the train station in Naples, but far enough away from the tourist chaos in Amalfi and Positano. We rented a big boat for a couple of days to visit Capri, the grottos, and all of the cities along the Amalfi Coast. My favorite place of all was Ravello. It's about an hour and half drive from the villa up in the mountains. It's worth the drive.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Masa Lubrense was the nearest town within walking distance. We didn't do much walking there though. The roads are all so narrow, so not very conducive to pedestrians.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring water containers--Yetti's, etc.. for the pool and the beach. Bring water shoes. The beach is rocky, not smooth. Bring bug spray in the summer time.
Check In Out:
The check-in process was pleasant. We were all relieved to see the pleasant surroundings, etc... A delightful experience overall and the owners are lovely people.

Wendy, August

Overall:
It was an amazing experience and everyone has a terrific time. There was ample room for everyone to feel comfortable. The location was stunning and close enough to all attractions.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and location. It was inspiring.
Enjoyed Least:
The stove was challenging.
Surrounding Area:
The area has many wonderful restaurants and other activities for excursions and site seeing,
Nearby Events or Locales:
Massa Lubrense. It might have been but it was too steep to walk,
Tips or Restaurants:
We enjoyed all the local restaurants. Having the villa pre-stocked with items was extremely useful. We shopped every day for some local goods (mozzarella and Parma ham and bread) which were to die for and highly recommended. Da Adolfo was quite a fun experience.
Directions:
We used a driver to transport us from airport to the villa and he did his research to get there. We used GPS for excursions but once knowing where the villa was, it was not complicated.
Check In Out:
Luciana and Gino were very attentive and lovely in every way. Giorgio came daily to help with the pool and clean and he was terrific. Check in and out were smooth with no hidden aspects.

Lucy, August

Overall:
Our group had an unforgettable experience at Villa Flora. The property is beautiful and the views are unsurpassed. Four couples shared this villa with plenty of room for the group to gather or when desired, plenty of areas for privacy. Although most previous reviewers indicated that a car is not necessary, we wish we would have rented a small car just for quick runs to a store.
Enjoyed Most:
The beauty and comfort of the home and property.
Enjoyed Least:
Our group did not understand the need for daily housekeeping, which renters are forced to pay and is expensive. We would not have minded if housekeeping included fresh towels and linens. Without a dryer, washing our own towels was difficult as hanging the wet towels outside was not always convenient or possible due to rain. The housekeeper cleaned the pool, swept the outdoor areas and tidied the bathrooms and kitchen (which our group kept well maintained on our own!) This is the only negative in renting this property. Daily cleaning should be optional.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed walking to the fishing village where we found great restaurants.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Massa Lubrense was the nearest small town. It is within walking distance along a busy road. One must be in shape to navigate the long and winding uphill climb. Also, because there are no sidewalks, one must be extremely careful.
Tips or Restaurants:
Future renters must bring their own toiletries, including bath soap and shampoo. Also, if a renter prefers a clean bath towel, I suggest packing one to use while waiting for the villa's towels to dry. We were provided one towel per person to use for the entire week.
Directions:
We did not have a problem locating the villa as all of our taxi drivers at the Sorrento port are aware of the property.
Check In Out:
The check-in and check-out process were seamless as the owners of the villa live on the property.

Vicki, October

Overall:
Overall, the experience was wonderful. It is a lovely villa in a great location - near Sorrento and within walking distance to the Massa Lubrense marina area. It has a great layout for a group of people - lots of bathrooms! Being able to jump into the sea right below the villa, as well as enjoy the pool, was fantastic. The sea views - including Capri! - were wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa itself - lovely layout and décor. Also, being able to swim in the sea right below the villa as well as the pool. The views were amazing! Great location for exploring Naples and the Amalfi coast.
Enjoyed Least:
The noisy neighbors. The villa that is located directly above the pool area hosted loud parties with many attendees on several nights while we were there.
Surrounding Area:
Being close to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast was wonderful. We were also able to visit Naples, Pompeii, and Capri. Capri was terrific!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Massa Lubrense. The marina area is within walking distance, where there are several nice restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
The cook service at the villa was wonderful! We booked it for 2 nights, but due to a mix-up we only had it for one night. We wish we had made arrangements to have it 3-4 nights. It was the best meal we had during our time at the villa, and very economical when compared to restaurant prices.
Directions:
I think the directions were fine. We did use a GPS, so didn't have any problems finding it.
Check In Out:
The check-in and check-out process went very smoothly. The owner, Signora Monda, was lovely. She told us not to hesitate to call her if we had any problems. We did have a few plumbing problems, but after calling her, they were fixed right away the same day.

Jeanne, September

Overall:
We truly enjoyed our stay at Villa Flora! The owner was gracious and quickly fixed the few minor plumbing problems we noticed when we checked in. The view was fabulous, the outdoor area was splendid, and we enjoyed our ocean access too! All the rooms were comfortable and the décor was amazing!
Enjoyed Most:
I enjoyed the views, the gardens (lemons, limes, figs, table grapes), and the Mediterranean décor, tile floors, lots of shells in glass cases, and white and blue walls. The pool and the ocean access were wonderful too!
Enjoyed Least:
The neighbors were noisy on several nights, once until 11:20 PM. There's not much that can be done about that though.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the neighborhood grocery store, the sea walk to several restaurants, and the proximity to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Masse Lubrense is the nearest small town. We were able to walk to the harbor area of Masse Lubrense where there were several seaside restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
We had one meal catered by the cooks while we were staying at the Villa Flora. It was excellent, one of the best meals we had the whole 3 weeks we were in Italy!!! It was also an economical option, quite a bit less than we were spending at restaurants. I would recommend that future renters consider having these two ladies cook at least two or 3 meals. It's not every day you can eat in your swimsuit under a beautifully draped portico table with friends or family! The restaurant '... Michele' was also very good with great views of the marina and the ocean.
Directions:
The directions were good. I would add that the last turnoff is near a large pine tree - and that the road down to the villa is very narrow. Tell drivers to proceed with caution between the parked cars and the rock walls - and to keep a lookout for the convex mirrors which can warn you of oncoming traffic around the hairpin curves in the access road. We did have a GPS which was helpful.
Check In Out:
Check in and check out was very smooth.

Rebecca, September

Overall:
Excellent villa. Beautiful setting and comfortable.
Enjoyed Most:
Outdoor spaces are amazing!
Enjoyed Least:
Kitchen was a bit cramped.
Surrounding Area:
Easy walk to marina.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Massa Lubrense was within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Insect repellent coils for outdoors, which you can find in any grocery store. Large plastic cups to use poolside (supplied glasses are small in size and made of glass).
Directions:
Had driver.

David, May

Overall:
This was the best vacation we have had in a while!! The house and grounds were beautiful. It was a perfect place on the water with views of Naples in one direction, and the island of Capri in the other direction. We had a driver pick us up at the train station in Naples, and he ended up taking care of us the whole week. I do not have one complaint about anything! A perfect house in a perfect location!! Thanks Sarah, at RentVillas, for all of your help and guidance.
Enjoyed Most:
The location and view.
Enjoyed Least:
Construction was going on at the house behind us which tended to get a little loud at times. Editor's Note: Construction on the neighboring property (a new pool) was completed on May 30th, 2015.
Surrounding Area:
Simply beautiful!! Some of us walked to the small marina close by every day. Wonderful restaurant there too.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Masse Lubrense - and yes it was in walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
We went to a lot of good restaurants that our driver took us to mostly in Sorrento and Massa Lubrense. We made a grocery store stop on the way to the villa. Simple things like salt, pepper, and sugar are not provided - also paper towels, tin foil, etc. The grocery stores are wonderful with fresh fruits and vegetables, etc.
Directions:
We had a driver. His name is Bernardo, and RentVillas set us up with him. He was fantastic!! He knew all of the good restaurants and other interesting places to see. I would never consider driving on those very narrow roads in the mountains!
Check In Out:
The owner of the villa checked us in and out, and she was so very nice.
