Customer Reviews

Overall:
We had a very enjoyable stay. The apartment is located on a small side street with its own little piazza in front which offered an oasis from the hordes of tourists who were moving from Santa Croce Church to the Piazza della Signoria (Uffizzi/Palazzo Vecchio area). The apartment is centrally located with at most a 10 minute walk to just about every major landmark in Florence, close to shopping, and surrounded by restaurants.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was ideal. Centrally located and close to all major attractions but on a quiet side street with its own restaurants, which seemed frequented by locals. The apartment is also air conditioned, which is a big plus if you are visiting in summer, and the living room was wide open and airy with a wonderful window from which you could look out on the little square.
Enjoyed Least:
The building is older (like the rest of Old Florence) and you do have to walk three flights of stairs to get to the first floor where the apartment is located. Nevertheless the heavy wooden doors and wide, stone stairs gave the apartment added charm.
Surrounding Area:
You are in the middle of Florence with restaurants, stores, and major attractions just steps away. Once I learned how to navigate the maze of Florentine streets (big and small), we could quickly get to our favorite destinations while avoiding the tourist hordes who trundle up and down the main streets.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You are in the middle of Florence's old town.
Tips or Restaurants:
On our last day, we tried Star Chicken (which is 3 minutes away on a side street) for a quick and easy take out dinner. I was expecting low quality fast food, but the fried chicken was prepared to order in small batches and was simply some of the best fried chicken I have ever had.
Directions:
We took a taxi from the train station. We just showed the driver the address on our phone, and he drove us straight there in less than 15 minutes (it is not far, but the streets are narrow and filled with tourists who seem oblivious to the fact that there are cars in central Florence).
Check In Out:
The property manager Alberto met us in person and gave us a run down on how all of the appliances and air conditioning worked. He also gave us tips on where to eat and shop for groceries, and he offered to call a taxi whenever we needed one, which we did on one occasion. Catching a taxi at a taxi stand (which is very close) is very difficult as they all seem taken, and we quickly learned that the best way to get a taxi is to call for one and have it show up at the front door.

Overall:
Perfect location and Florence experience!

The size and location were perfect for our purposes plus the best gelato was right around the corner!
Enjoyed Least:
I thought everything was great!
Surrounding Area:
It was so close to good restaurants and excellent gelato!
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring bags for groceries. The restaurant that you can see looking out the front windows is delicious!
Directions:
We took a taxi and it was very easy to get there.
Check In Out:
It was very easy and seamless!

Overall:
It was excellent. The apartment was clean and in a nice location. It was comfortable and a good home-base for our activities while in Florence.
Enjoyed Most:
It was clean and comfortable. The location was great - close to good restaurants, pastry shop, grocery store, and a great gelato shop. It was also close to a taxi stand - very convenient when we left for the train station. It was also a good location to get to the places we wanted to see, but remote enough to be quiet.
Enjoyed Least:
Took us a while to figure out the washer/dryer combination, especially getting the clothes dried, but we managed.
Surrounding Area:
The restaurants and gelato shop and the unique shops. The history and churches were very interesting. A lot of unique and different sites to see and things to do - plus shopping.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We either did things in Florence - walked to, or took the bus or train to other cities.
Tips or Restaurants:
Restaurant across the street was good and also the one around the corner to the right and down about a block. The gelato place around the corner to the right was great - best in Florence. The pastry/espresso shop on the square was also good and reasonably priced.
Directions:
We had the address and the taxi driver knew where it was.
Check In Out:
No, the owner met us at check-in and was very friendly and explained everything well. Enjoyed meeting him.

Overall:
Our experience was EXCELLENT we have already actually recommended this property to 3 different friends who expressed an interest in going to Tuscany and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone and everyone. The location cannot be beat sd you are within a very easy walk (even for my 72 year old mother-in-law!) to basically everything you want to see within historic Florence, and cabs are easy to snag for anywhere you want to get to that's outside of the historic district. The apartment is beautiful, well-appointed and the kitchen is well-stocked.
Enjoyed Most:
The location. It really is an amazing location to stay in and makes exploring Florence very, very easy. The apartment is extremely well appointed. There are AC units in the main living area as well as each bedroom so guests can set the AC in each bedroom to the temperature they like. Modern appliances and a well-stocked kitchen had everything we needed for our stay.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing lovely property, no issues.
Surrounding Area:
Santa Croce is a couple short blocks away. The duomo and the Uffizi Gallery are less than 15 minutes walking away. Great restaurants surround, as do leather good shops and other shopping.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Heart of Florence - yes, you are in the middle of it all.
Tips or Restaurants:
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE TO THE APARTMENT!! Seriously, do not do it!!! We are experienced large city drivers, experienced drivers in various parts of Europe and let's just say after about 1.5 hours we gave up, drove to the airport to return the rental car and caught a cab back to the apartment. It's not about having "better directions" unless you have driven in Florence and know the streets (and which streets are really streets and which are alley-ways) you seriously should not attempt to drive to the apartment. The apartment is located in a small square that is surrounded by very narrow streets. Just get a cab there. On the street directly behind the apartment are grocers (there are a couple of butchers/meat stores, a fresh veggie/fruit shop with cold milk and yogurt and then sort of like convenience stores with bottled water, shelf-stable milk, etc.).
Directions:
There were not really any directions to the property provided by RentVillas, which I understand having stayed there. It would be difficult to map out directions. A cab from the airport was less than 30 Euros and well worth it.
Check In Out:
Process was extremely easy. The property owner was very accommodating and emailed me directly with his contact information. He was able to accommodate an earlier check-in and checked in with me midway through our stay to make sure everything was OK.

Overall:
Excellent. Great location, spacious and comfortable living area. Beds are very good and kitchen is well appointed. There is a washer/dryer!
Enjoyed Most:
The great room was spacious and very comfortable. It was a great place to come back to after a busy day of walking through Florence.
Enjoyed Least:
There is a low ceiling in the upstairs bedroom, complicated by an even lower, head-cracking beam. One of our party had trouble remembering to duck, but the beds were good and the room is spacious.
Surrounding Area:
Easy walking access to major attractions and shopping. The landlord provided a good guide to nearby restaurants and there were several maps and recent issue guidebooks we found helpful. If you pass down the left side of the Santa Croce cathedral there is a wonderful school of leather work that has excellent stuff, far better than what is in most of the retail shops. The nearby gelateria was superb!
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a good size grocery store (paper good, alcohol, and full produce, bakery, snacks, etc). Skip the mini-marts and find that.
Directions:
We deferred to the cabbie from SMN terminal. Florence is very walkable but the routes can be confusing. It was worth the relatively cheap cab ride.
Check In Out:
Landlord was great!

Brian, May

Overall:
Very good location as described. A 10-15 minute walk gets you to a number of great Florence sites. Very convenient for food, restaurants and taxi service.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was great. It was clean and stocked with the few necessities required. It felt very secure.
Enjoyed Least:
We were there during a heat wave and the A/C was barely adequate on the first day. The second living room A/C unit did not cool the second upstairs bedroom (which does not have AC). A fan was provided. After the first day, once the A/C had been on for a while, the apartment cooled off (except for the extra bedroom upstairs). Editor's Note: As of April 2016, the whole apartment is now equipped with A/C.
Surrounding Area:
Florence is a magical city. There is so much to do, see and eat there!
Tips or Restaurants:
Trip Advisor and Yelp are your friend when traveling.
Directions:
No GPS required. We took a taxi from the rental car center.
Check In Out:
I called the key holder when we were arriving, then waited in front of the building for a while. I thought she would meet us in front of the building (the front door is locked). After a while I called her and she said she was in the apartment waiting for us! Not the best communication.

Overall:
Overall, we enjoyed staying at Guelfo.
Enjoyed Most:
It is in a great location. We LOVED eating at the little restaurant right across the street called Francesco Vini. There was plenty of room in the master bedroom and we were able to keep it nice and cool.
Enjoyed Least:
The summer heat in Florence was at an all-time high, so we found it difficult to adequately cool down the apartment. The washer/dryer in the property was very difficult to figure out how to operate. The English instructions were quite inadequate. Also, we really needed a fan for each bedroom upstairs (only one fan was provided). The guests that did not have a fan were quite uncomfortable at night. There are nice big windows in the living room, but unfortunately, there really is only a view down to the street below.
Surrounding Area:
We most enjoyed the restaurant across the street called Francesco Vini. Had dinner there numerous times. The property is in easy walking distance to many places in central Florence.
Tips or Restaurants:
As I said before, be sure to try the restaurant across the street called Francesco Vini. They provide bath towels, but no wash cloths, so bring them if you want. We had to buy extra toilet paper.
Directions:
Take a taxi...don't even try to find the place on your own!!!
Check In Out:
Check in/Check out was very simple. The owner was so nice and accommodating for our early check in.

Gretchen, August

Overall:
The property is nicely decorated and really has that cozy feeling! Air conditioner was greatly appreciated. Really there is only positives with this property! Should we return to Florence there is no doubt we would rent this apartment again!
Enjoyed Most:
Location and cleanliness.
Surrounding Area:
Location and ease to get into the center of the town.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You could walk to the center of town and to the river. Could not have asked for a better location.
Tips or Restaurants:
There was a fantastic restaurant 10 steps from the front door and very convenient to all popular locations if you don't mind walking a bit! The apartment had everything so no need to bring anything over and above what you would normally travel with.
Directions:
We used a taxi from the train station so no GPS used.
Check In Out:
Check in and Check out was amazing. Owner was truly a nice person and very proud of his apartment as he should be!
