Customer Reviews

Overall:
We enjoyed having all the space we needed for our large group. We loved sitting by the pool and enjoying the view. We cooked out at the grill and ate breakfast on the patio as well. We had great family time in the big dining room the night that Beatrice and her friend cooked for us.
Enjoyed Most:
It was a "true villa" experience. The house was well cared for and provided enough privacy for all the 15 members of our party. There were so many living areas that it took us a while before we quit getting disoriented. The outdoor space was wonderful for our May visit.
Enjoyed Least:
The location was quite remote. Our GPS took us past the property. We actually walked around behind the villa via an overgrown path before finding it. Beatrice was charming, but spoke very little English. She preferred communicating by text messages.
Surrounding Area:
The spectacular countryside was breathtaking. Our cameras worked overtime until we realized we could never capture the magnificence of the vistas except in our hearts.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There were several tiny hamlets, but none them were within walking distance except Bagnano where we walked for dinner at Wilma's one evening. If you have large group like ours was, reservations were necessary almost everywhere we went.
Tips or Restaurants:
We followed some of the recommendations of previous villa guest and tried two that we agreed were fun as well as delicious: Osteria Das di Chianti was an unforgettable experience due to a very animated and entertaining waiter there named Manuele. Also the view and food were excellent up in Certaldo Alto at Taverna L'Antica Fonte.
Directions:
The directions can be quite different depending on your point of origin. Some of our kids used Google to find the place and were directed down dirt roads part of the way.

Beverly, May

Overall:
Our group consisted of nine people and we used five bedrooms. The villa was amazing and we enjoyed EVERY minute we were there! What a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the Tuscany Region!
Enjoyed Most:
Everything! The villa is so large that we never felt crowded. There were several sitting areas where we could gather and visit or we could find a quiet area and be by ourself. It was so quiet and peaceful, both inside and outside.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing!
Surrounding Area:
It was beautiful! The views were fantastic!
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Certaldo which was about a 10 minute drive from the villa. The roads were very narrow and winding, but after a week, we were used to driving in them.
Tips or Restaurants:
We couldn't find the coffee maker, so we made "Cowboy Coffee" each morning. Speaking of kitchens... it was very cozy. Large room with table and chairs to sit at while we watched the "cooks of the day" prepare meals!
Directions:
We used a GPS and still had a little difficulty.
Check In Out:
Both were VERY easy. Beatrice met us at the villa the day we checked in and let us move in early after the cleaning was finished. She showed us the villa and tried to explain everything, although her English was limited and our Italian was also limited. The only problem we ran into was the trash detail, but we managed to figure it out about two days later. Our checkout was even easier and our deposit was returned with no hassle.

Karen, May

Overall:
We all thoroughly enjoyed the spaciousness of the property. We were 10 in the party. It was a nice central place to do day or half day trips. We liked the fact their was a restaurant next door where we dined twice.
Enjoyed Most:
Central location in the Chianti region. Close to Florence, San Gimignano, Siena, Volterra etc
Enjoyed Least:
Not enough patio furniture. We used the dining chairs as we like comparing stories at the end of the day from our excursions.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery was spectacular. You can take side roads and find excellent food in sample villages.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nearest town was Barberino Val d'Elsa. Needed to drive there.
Tips or Restaurants:
Wilmas restaurant was fantastic! We brought our own wine and it was in walking distance.
Directions:
I used a GPS.

Keith, October

Overall:
We (all 11 of us) absolutely enjoyed our stay at Villa Barberino! We would definitely consider going back (and yes the ant problem has been taken care of)!
Enjoyed Most:
The view was incredible! The rooms were spacious and all bedrooms had their own bath. The pool was fantastic (great after a morning run). The location is convenient to many sites in Tuscany. The nearby town of Certaldo has a train station with trains running frequently to just about anywhere you would like to take a day trip. Certaldo also has a great selection of restaurants and the old town is worth exploring. There is also a great local restaurant just 14 mile away from the villa called Wilma's.
Enjoyed Least:
It was a little hard to find. Three of us followed the directions and managed. One couple was lost for 3 hours with spotty text and phone service.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area is rolling hills and vineyards and just beautiful. The villa's location is so convenient for exploring Tuscany!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Sciano and Certaldo are nearby - but not walking distance. There is a restaurant called Wilma that is about 14 mile and walkable, but it is only open for dinner.
Tips or Restaurants:
The Villa is a short drive from the nearest towns and food stores. I would stop on the way there and stock up on basics such as breakfast foods. We had cars and were able to make runs to stock up.
Directions:
Putting Bagnano as the city worked the best with GPS.
Check In Out:
We were very pleased with the check in out process. Beatrice was delightful!

Betty, September

Overall:
Pleasant.
Enjoyed Most:
It was a historic building and fun to explore.
Enjoyed Least:
Ants. Editor's Note: The ant problem has been resolved. Villa Barberino was completely renovated in 2015.
Surrounding Area:
Central to many towns as day trips.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo, one way, and Poggibonsi, the other way. Both too far to walk. There were a few small villages within walking distance.
Directions:
After a series of sharp, downhill switchbacks, it is the very first driveway on the left. When you pull into the driveway, you will pass 2 farm buildings on the right before you get to the main house.
Check In Out:
It was very easy.

Carly, July

Overall:
Very good.
Enjoyed Most:
Convenient location and view. My grandchildren loved the pool. The key holder was a great help. We had lots of room.
Enjoyed Least:
Ants, the lack of air conditioning, and lack of an American coffee maker. Editor's Note: Villa Barberino was completely renovated in 2015. The ant problem has been resolved and there is now air conditioning in the bedrooms on the first floor.
Surrounding Area:
Close to many interesting and convenient places.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Bagnano is the nearest town, but there is not much there; it's walkable.

John, June

Overall:
The villa was wonderful. It was quiet and the view was beautiful. It was spacious and very clean. Proximity to Fireze was great. We would come and stay here again.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool with its view and the proximity to Firenze.
Enjoyed Least:
There were a lot of ants. They invaded the kitchen first and then the bathrooms and even the bedrooms. Editor's Note: The ant problem has been resolved. The villa is under complete renovation. November, 2015.
Surrounding Area:
Firenze and San Gimignano.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Barberino; it's not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
House was very well equipped. Wilma was a great little restaurant down the street.

Vee, June

Overall:
Excellent. Our group was so excited when we all arrived. They could not believe how great our accommodation was. The view over the pool, the noise of hunters in the nearby forest, and the feeling of having the villa all to ourselves, made our overseas holiday one to remember for all time.
Enjoyed Most:
Basically everything. For me personally it was the joy that everyone in our group had and how they liked different aspects of the villa. There was not one disappointed person in our group of 14. My children swimming in the pool with a view of San Gimignano was special.
Enjoyed Least:
The time it took to do some clothes washing (slow washing machine) and there was not a lot of space to hang the washing out to dry. We worked around this though.
Surrounding Area:
We where close enough to Coops and the rail station in Certaldo where we could accommodate our groups' needs. A short drive by car. We found a cooking school that 5 of our group enjoyed in Certaldo Alto. Drives to Siena, Florence, the Chianti wine region and San Gimignano were done as day trips quiet comfortably.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The best towns that had good shopping Coops were Certaldo and Tavarnelle Val d'Elsa. An easy drive. A couple of our group walked up a steep hill to a small village - Petrognano - a long walk but great views.
Tips or Restaurants:
We booked and used the local cooks to cook at the villa on two nights. This was great as we could enjoy our meal as a group - and we did. We also had dinner at a local restaurant - Wilmas - which was within walking distance.
Directions:
Once in Certaldo we foud the villa quite easily. I used Google Earth prior to our trip and found our villa, which helped.
Check In Out:
All went well.

Bill, October

Overall:
It was a wonderful experience. Beautiful, restful, and a perfect location.
Enjoyed Most:
The view, and the house was fascinating.
Enjoyed Least:
There were lots of ants. Also, the WiFi didn't work for the vast majority of the time. Also, it was challenging to recieve information about operating so many appliances from someone who did not speak much English. It was difficult to figure how use the oven and washing machine. Editor's Note: The owners have said that 2011 was a particularly bad year for ants due to the heat. They prefer not to use chemicals to deter them; however, they can do so if necessary. It helps to keep the food in the refrigerator. As for the WiFi, there were problems due to a thunderstorm. It was fixed right away. Also, the WiFi works best in the upstairs sitting room, as well as at the outside table. Editor's Note: The ant problem has been resolved. The villa was completely renovated in 2015.
Surrounding Area:
We went to so many beautiful towns: Florence, Montereggione, Orvieto, Siena, Certaldo, and San Gimignano.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Certaldo. No
Tips or Restaurants:
Plastic bags, etc. The book Living Like A Local was a godsend. We used it over and over. There was a restaurant in Orvieto called Tipica Trattoria Etrusca that was amazing and so enjoyable. Also, it was reasonable.
Directions:
It was very difficult to get to the property because many of the roads do not have names. It took us an extra hour and a half to find it. Many switchbacks, it was a tough drive.
Check In Out:
The check-in process seemed rushed. The check-out process was excellent.

Roberta, July

Overall:
It was a great value for the money.
Enjoyed Most:
Very private.
Enjoyed Least:
They put the screens on the windows but you cannot beat the ants and the mosquitoes--they win. You just have to understand that Tuscany in the summer means ants and mosquitoes. Editor's Note: The ant problem was particularly severe during 2011 due to the heat - even into late October. The owners do not like to use chemicals to deter them; however, they can do so if needed. In any case, it is very important not to leave any food outside the refrigerator. Editor's Note: The ant problem has been resolved. The villa was completely renovated in 2015.
Surrounding Area:
Simple and straight forward.
Tips or Restaurants:
Accept that there will be ants and bugs in the summer. We would have liked to have driving directions from the south.
Check In Out:
Excellent and efficient.

Dr Leslie Jay, July

Overall:
This villa is a great place for a multi-generational family reunion! It is a good value, well-located, has beautiful views from the patio, garden and pool area.
Enjoyed Most:
The outside area, including the pool. The views. The several sitting and dining areas which allow for space and privacy. The villa was perfect for our large family!
Enjoyed Least:
The small, narrow bathroom and tiny shower between the two downstairs bedrooms. Also, the door from one bedroom into the bathroom sticks. The steep stone stairs to the first (U.S. second floor) floor.
Surrounding Area:
The proximity to Certaldo, San Gimignano, Siena, the Chianti region, Volterra, etc. The area is beautiful. I actually prefer this area to the Chianti; it is more accessible.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Barberino and Certaldo were the closest towns. You definitely need to drive to both.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a really good trattoria, Wilma's, just down the road. An easy walk. There is another restaurant in the other dirction - Semifonte - that is also good. Of course, there are restaurants in San Barberino and Certaldo, as well. Great day trips from the villa: Volterra, San Gimignano, Siena, Certaldo Alto (charming). I highly recommend having Francesca and Maria cook for you! We had them 3 times a week for our group of 13. Wonderful!!

Suzanne T., June

Overall:
Overall, we had a wonderful time. We were very glad we'd arranged to have dinnners made for us and some grocery shopping done prior to our arrival.
Enjoyed Most:
The view was spectacular, the house was well-kept except for the ants (see below, the bedrooms were very spacious and comfortable with screened windows, and one of the things we enjoyed the most was having Maria and Francesca prepare our dinners 3 nights- they were wonderful and everything they made us was delicious.
Enjoyed Least:
The ants were a real nuisance in a couple of the bedrooms and bathrooms. They got in to everything despite our efforts to control them. Editor's Note: The ant problem has been resolved. The villa was completely renovated in 2015.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area was peaceful and beautiful.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nothing was really within easy walking distance except Wilma's Restaurant, which we enjoyed very much.
Tips or Restaurants:
I was surprised how few supplies were provided. Although there were 1-2 day's worth, we eventually had to buy dishwasher soap, dish soap, toilet paper, napkins, trash bags, and ant spray.
Directions:
We had a GPS and didn't have any trouble finding the property although I can see how people could get a bit lost.
Check In Out:
Everything went as expected- no surprises.

Kathleen, May

Overall:
Fantastic.
Enjoyed Most:
The views, the pool (it was very hot), the large space for our group of 15.
Enjoyed Least:
The ants, especially downstairs. It would have been nice to have been provided with fans as it was very hot to sleep, especially in rooms without cross ventilation...even if you charged a bit more for the extra electricity. Editor's Note: The ant problem has been resolved. The villa was completely renovated in 2015. There is now air conditioning in the bedrooms on the first floor, as stated in the description.
Surrounding Area:
Tuscany, what's not to enjoy. But I think the Barberino is located in an especially beautiful area. The towns Greve, Panzano, Radda, Castellina in Chianti and Monteriggioni were great, as was Certaldo Alto.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We did get into Barberino a lot. Very good for shopping, etc.
Tips or Restaurants:
All the restaurants were excellent, but we mostly cooked in. Our group likes meat, so they liked very much the 30 euro fixed meal with lots of meat, about 8 courses, wine, water, etc, dessert, in a lovely, lovely place with AC. Don't remember the name, but it's famous and is in Panzano and run by the butcher right across the street. He is very colorful and delightful. After dinner, we all went back to the butcher shop and had grappa!
Directions:
No comments. the directions were as good as they could be in the remote area.
Check In Out:
The young woman who checked us in-out was extremely pleasant and efficient. And the place looked immaculate. She gave us back our deposit minus the cleaning, and there were no hidden or extra charges, which was delightful.

William, July

Overall:
The house, the location, panoramic views and the surrounding area exceeded our expectations. We had a fantastic visit and didn't want to leave !
Enjoyed Most:
The awesome view, the large outdoor spaces, the pool and huge living space in and around the house for eating and relaxing. You really felt like you where in a different world. Very authentic experience.
Enjoyed Least:
No major issues. The person who met us at the house did not speak much English, however, she was very nice and everything worked out fine. Make sure you confirm that hot water is turned on and how to use kitchen appliances and washing machine.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful views of the countryside - lots of olive groves and vineyards, little hill towns and good proximity to Florence and Siena.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Tavernelle had the closet food store or Coop. You could buy everything you need there. A 1/2 day trip to Certaldo Alto was well worth it. Need to drive to both.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring or rent a GPS - an absolute must for getting around. Bring ziplock bags and large garbage bags. You can buy anything else you need at the Coop. Roads are a little bit of a challenge, so the smaller the rental car the better. We had Giuseppina come in and cook dinner for us one night it was delicious. If you make a left out of the villa and head towards Certaldo about 10 minutes there is a restaurant on the right called Pizzeria Meroni. The food is inexpensive and fantastic. We ate there two nights in a row and the outdoor seating view is great.
Check In Out:
Danielle was on-time for our check-out as we had to leave early to catch a train in Florence and there were no surprises. The cleaning fee was as agreed, we received our deposit back, etc..

Paul, July

Overall:
Our overall experience was excellent.
Enjoyed Most:
The views, the size, the position, the condition of the property. The local wine and olive oil are very good.
Enjoyed Least:
It turned out that the girl who met us was new, and so was not well versed in how to help us. For example, she had not told us how to use the phone at the villa for reporting a problem with lack of hot water. We discovered how to turn the hot water on the next morning by ourselves. The washing machine was not easy to operate and took a long time.
Surrounding Area:
The proximity of everything was great. The Coops in Certaldo Poggibonsi were very good. Trains from Certaldo to bigger towns were good. The restaurant up the road, Wilma's, was a godsend! It was only about a 300 mt walk. The local ladies, Francesca and Maria, were wonderful, although the first evening meal was better than the second one.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Barberino Val D'Elsa is not within walking distance - about 7 minute drive. Certaldo, a much bigger town, was about 15 minutes in the other direction.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a hairdryer. There is no coffee, tea, sugar, salt and pepper provided. Wilma's is a great local restaurant providing typical Tuscan fare. You can also purchase wine to take away if you want to.
Directions:
We hired a GPS with our car it got very confused as there are a variety of ways of numbering properties in Tuscany. The sign at the gate is very small.

Spencer, June

Overall:
Our time at Villa Barbarino was delightful! We loved sitting out by the pool and watching the lights in the surrounding hill towns come on as the sun went down. The local cooks, Francesca and Maria, prepared wonderful dinners
Enjoyed Most:
We loved the views and the big kitchen. The weather was lovely and we enjoyed opening the windows and sitting outside.
Enjoyed Least:
The indoor stairs were a little treacherous for older guests. Also the rooms were on many levels with one or two steps between rooms.
Surrounding Area:
We loved the views, and the drumming that we could hear from a nearby church. Some of us swam in the frigid water of the pool. Others sampled the wine from the grapes grown on the property.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Barbarino was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a hairdryer. The COOP in Tavernelle was a good place for groceries.
Directions:
We had difficulty finding the house even though it is near the road. It would be helpful to add that there is a barn in front of the house and that the gates near the road will be closed.
Check In Out:
Barbara was very pleasant and helpful.

Leila, October

Overall:
Very nice - very relaxing, quiet beautiful villa. We had a very good time and enjoyed most the kitchen where we prepared and ate most of our meals and the outdoor patios where we could all congregate and talk and laugh.
Enjoyed Most:
View, spaciousness, kitchen, and outdoor patio areas.
Enjoyed Least:
Please tell people to get a GPS before trying to find the place! We had 4 rental cars coming from different directions and each one got lost.
Surrounding Area:
Certaldo and San Gimignano were great little towns to visit. Beautiful breathtaking country vistas, sunsets.
Tips or Restaurants:
No local restaurant finds. Bring lots of ziploc bags, get directions from someone to the market in Tavernelle and Barberino before you go. Get the Tasty Italy people to cook your dinner - it was great - chefs Dorianna and Claudio were wonderful. Have the villa manager buy you some groceries for first day, night, and morning essentials.

Karen, September

Overall:
We had 13 in our group and the house comfortably accommodated everyone. The weather was very warm and the pool was a welcome spot every afternoon. A perfect location for touring the Chianti region and day trips to Florence and Siena.
Enjoyed Most:
We liked the pool and cabana and the dining table just outside the front door where we ate most of our meals. We had Francesca and Maria cook us a delicious six course dinner on two nights - well worth every penny!
Enjoyed Least:
The ants. We think it would be a good idea to provide a more detailed description of appliances and kitchenware so renters can plan accordingly.
Surrounding Area:
We liked the peace and quiet of the area and the ability to drive less than 20 minutes to hill towns in every direction. Drive east into the Chianti region and go to charming towns Castellina in Chianti and Greve in Chianti. Certaldo Alto is a hidden treasure nearby.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The two towns, Bagnano and Petrognano, are within walking distance, but really don't have any services. We did not eat at the two restaurants available nearby so can't comment on them. We walked in the morning to Petrognano for some exercise. The two main towns, Certaldo and Barberino Val d' Esa are just 10 minutes by car.
Tips or Restaurants:
The hill town of Certaldo Alto, just above Certaldo has a wonderful restaurant called Osteria del Vicario where we had a delicious lunch and dinner. Make sure you have someone stock the pantry with paper towels, plastic bags, dish washing soap, etc. before you arrive since stores are closed on Sunday, making it nearly impossible to get anything before Monday. We made arrangements for the refrigerator to be stocked with breakfast supplies upon arrival, but wished we had asked for other items too.
Check In Out:
Mario was very easy going and made the check-in-out simple. He provided us with a bottle of wine and access to the locally produced wine if we desired.

David, July

Overall:
Loved the villa. Just wish there had been better shower heads.
Enjoyed Most:
The view.
Surrounding Area:
Loved Tuscany countryside and the people.

Virginia Tvl Agt, June

Overall:
We were more than pleased. We thought the villa looked even better than the on-line pictures. It was immaculate, roomy, beautifully furnished, charming, and the kitchen and bathrooms were outstanding. Ten of us had room for privacy, but plenty of room for the whole group to be together. We particularly liked the veranda overlooking the pool and San Gimignano visible in the background.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was beautiful and convenient to places we wanted to visit. We appreciated how well this 1616 property had been restored and maintained. We arranged two dinners prepared by the local cooks Francesca and Maria and they were wonderful--both the cooks and the food.
Enjoyed Least:
Everything was wonderful! It might be useful to note that the washing machine is small so plan time if you have very much wash to do.
Surrounding Area:
The beauty of the views and the three excellent restaurants we discovered nearby.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Petrognano was a little too far and too steep to walk for older folks but was a cute little town. Bagnano was closer but very small.
Tips or Restaurants:
"Wilma's," just up the hill in Bagnano, was quite good and very inexpensive. Found a great restaurant in Petrognano named "Il Campanille" and another in Barbarino Val d' Elsa called"La Bustecca". The Villa was well equipped and you only need to bring your personal items and the food you may want.
Directions:
The sign is small and on a small building at the entrance BEFORE the iron gate. We passed it twice before seeing the small sign.
Check In Out:
Mario was great and gave good advice about the area and the local restaurant. Everything went smoothly in regard to finances--just what we expected. It was nice to have a bottle of wine waiting when we arrived.

Bradford, May

Overall:
Wonderful location -- we enjoyed olive oil tasting and wine, local restaurants, nearby cities, sitting outside.
Enjoyed Most:
The living area upstairs, the grounds, views, setting, the peace and quiet and nearby towns.
Enjoyed Least:
No Internet access. The beds were almost all made as shared and we had no couples. Ants. Some maintenance-renovation could be good.
Surrounding Area:
Siena, San Gimignano, oil and wine producers, a restaurant we found outside Certaldo.
Tips or Restaurants:
Yes -- find Enrico's Osteria Casa di Chianti... between Fiano and Certaldo... nearer to Fiano. WONDERFUL! It was the best part of our trip.
Check In Out:
Mario, who lives there, is great. He made us super focaccia.

Rebecca, May

Overall:
Lovely.
Enjoyed Most:
The grounds.
Surrounding Area:
Scenery, villages.

Cathy, May

Overall:
It was wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was easily large enough to allow 12 adults sufficient privacy, which was great, and sufficiently warm and intimate enough to allow for great get togethers, both cooking together in the great kitchen and dining together in the formal dining room and outside. We loved the setting.
Enjoyed Least:
A more efficient clothes washer and dish washer would be a great addition.
Surrounding Area:
The villa was so close to many wonderful day outings, whether to Certaldo Alto, Siena, San Gimignano, Montalcino and Montepulciano, and Firenze, yet, it was totally private and quiet, tucked behind the operational farm of olive orchards and Chianti vineyards.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town was Certaldo where we found a very good food Coop, and wonderful bakery. it was about 12 km, so not walking distance. Barberino Val d'Elsa was also close, 10 km, and had a food Coop, although not as large as the one in Certaldo.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring ziplock bags.
Check In Out:
Chiara was extremely helpful and very good as the local agent.

Judy , August

Overall:
We were there with a few other couples who are good friends over a two-week period, and the consensus of all was that it was the best part of the time we spent in Italy.
Enjoyed Most:
The architecture, ambiance, relaxing atmosphere, the views, the sunsets, the dinners. It's very relaxing to have such a nice place to come home to after a day trip to Chianti or one of the hill towns. We enjoyed sipping wine on the terrace in the evenings and waking up to the birds in the morning. Although we expected there to be no heat since it was May, the radiators did come on during some of the cool nights. It took us a while to figure out how to regulate them, and one of the upstairs bathrooms had one that remained on regardless of what we did. The house was quite comfortable, though, and it turned out that utilities were included, and were not an extra charge.
Enjoyed Least:
Minor things - the house is a bit dark inside, but after all, it was built in a different age. The weather was wonderful so we spent all available time outdoors anyway. Some chandelier bulbs need to be replaced in the dining room and upstairs sitting room. Water pressure is quite good everywhere except the downstairs shower, which might simply be clogged with mineral deposits.
Surrounding Area:
The villa is convenient to the Chianti Classico area for picturesque towns, vineyards, wine tasting, olive oil, and the wonderful Tuscan rolling countryside. We all had cars, and did day trips to Siena, Volterra - terrific, San Gimignano, Castellina and others. Between the villa and the town of Barberino is a hilltop with views and a replica of the dome of the Duomo in Florence. We loved the spot for watching the sunset with some wine, cheese and bruschetta.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Our favorite nearby town was Certaldo, 7 km away. It is unaffected by tourists, has a convenient train station and supermarket, COOP, for our food purchases, and a town wine cooperative where you can get good local wine very inexpensively. Bring your own bottles which they fill from the casks, or they'll provide you bottles to start with. It also has a charming medieval hill town, Certaldo Alta, reachable by car, funicular or foot with some good restaurants and great views.
Tips or Restaurants:
Our best dinners of the whole trip were prepared at the villa by Francesca and Maria, so be sure to arrange that for a night or two. In Certaldo Alta, we loved eating at Taverna L'Antica Fonte. The farm at the villa produces excellent, dark, flavorful olive oil, which we used liberally in our own cooking. Don't worry about the broken American-style drip coffee maker. Buy a package of coffee for the stove-top Italian Moka espresso makers, and use those. The coffee is so much better. You can download the technique from the Internet.
Check In Out:
The complimentary wine and olive oil were a nice touch. Be sure you understand how to operate the stove. We had to call and follow up on that. It may be because we were the first renters of the season, but the master gas valve was off so we were temporarily mystified. The valve is huge and in plain sight, but is not marked in any way, nor is it particularly close to the stove.

Jack, May

Enjoyed Most:
The Villa is unique and has wonderful links to its origins in the 17th century. We truly enjoyed the features, its multiple rooms and it historical accuracy.
Enjoyed Least:
The property needs maintenance, some minor and some major. Light bulbs missing, one light with a short in the plug. One of the ovens does not work. The items were more of nuisance than a hindrance. Editor's Note: Ovens repaired; new washing machine, dishwasher and kitchen utensils; heating system fixed; further renovations. January 2007.
Surrounding Area:
The villa sits in a beautiful valley with wonderful views of the area countryside.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Although there are two small villages or collections of houses on either side of the villa the nearest small town is Barberino. It has a very interesting old walled town which can easily be missed. It is up to your right as you pass through on your way to the villa and well worth taking the short time to wonder it streets.
Tips or Restaurants:
One of the best restaurant finds was the house keeper. For 25 euros per person she will cook a very nice meal for the guests. We found that San Gimignano is loaded with great restaurants and is only a short distance from the Villa. We used a Hertz Neverlost which enabled us to explore the back roads of Tuscany between Florence and Siena. We saw a lot of breathtaking countryside that we would have not otherwise seen. For a great Vineyard Tour we went to Castello Di Verrazzano, a unique property owned by the Verrazzano, who explored the east coast of the U.S. The Vineyard is in Greve and requires reservations 39 335 52 42 453. Good lunch and wine tasting.

Overall:
Loved the caretakers of the farm and villa - very nice
Enjoyed Most:
Ambiance, architectural structure, location very centrally located, bedrooms and bathrooms, view - most everything!
Enjoyed Least:
Minor points - should have a working drip coffee maker. The current one not functional. Also need to provide more than one set of towels per person.
Surrounding Area:
Easy access to Florence, Siena, Certaldo, San Gimignano, Volterra and Chianti country

Paul, September

Enjoyed Most:
The location, the grandness of the villa, the amount of space, the views of the countryside. The local wine produced sold on the estate is quite good. The cooks prepared outstanding meals for us.
Enjoyed Least:
The weather was quite warm and as a consequence, the bedrooms were very warm it was difficult to enjoy the villa because of this. Also, the bees, flies and mosquitoes were extremely bothersome, both in and around the swimming pool and in the bedrooms at night, as there are no screens on the windows.
Surrounding Area:
The beauty of the area. The Chianti region is magnificent. Views are stunning. The food is terrific as is the wine. The surrounding towns are quite interesting and worth exploring.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Barberino, a fifteen minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Any restaurant in any of the surrounding towns is going to be great, and we enjoyed all the meals we had. Bring plenty of bug repellent, particularly in the summer months there are several supermercatos that have whatever you need.
Check In Out:
Everything went smoothly.

David, July

Overall:
I want to go back!
Enjoyed Most:
The villa is spectacular there is a view of San Gimignano across the valleys and hills. Everything exceeded our expectations. The house itself was so spacious, clean, inviting and elegant, yet it was perfect for the six children we had. The pool was so lovely.
Enjoyed Least:
No AC and the kitchen was rather dark.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Barbarino, which we drove to.
Tips or Restaurants:
There is a nice pizza place about 7 minutes away. Be sure to bring bug spray. There is a garden which has basil; if some sprigs are placed around the pool, the wasps stay away.
Check In Out:
Chiara is great.

Georgiana, July

Overall:
The villa completely lived up to our expectations. In summary, it was a memorable trip and everyone in the party was very happy with the property. We would recommend it highly. Also, our experience with Rentvillas was excellent and we would recommend your company to anyone interested in renting vacation property.
Enjoyed Most:
It was very convenient for exploring Tuscany. We took many day trips to Florence, Pisa, Siena, Montalcino, Assisi, and other small towns. Several of us took a two day train excursion to Rome. The housekeeper, Francesca, and her daughter, Chiara (who speaks English) were very helpful. Check in and check out were completely problem-free. We had Francesca cook a Tuscan dinner for us one night and it was one of the best meals we had in Italy. She provides all of the food, cooks and cleans after. Well worth the 25 Euros per person.
Enjoyed Least:
As mentioned by others, the property needs better maintenance and property management. Some of the appliances are old and difficult to use--toaster, coffee maker, washing machine. The washing machine is old, too small and very slow. With 10 people this can be a problem. Also there is a bug problem. Plenty of mosquitoes, so bring the bug spray.
Surrounding Area:
The views from the villa and surrounding country were spectacular. Tuscany completely lived up to my expectations.
Tips or Restaurants:
The town of Barberino has limited facilities, but Certaldo which is not much farther has a good COOP, much like our supermarkets. Be sure to stock up on necessities before you arrive, because the COOP and other stores close rather early on Saturday evening and are closed on Sunday. We could find almost everything we needed at the COOP except paper towels. I never found a paper towel in any store in Italy. Obviously too bulky to pack.
Directions:
Directions to the villa were excellent. We had people coming in three different cars from different airports and everyone arrived with no problems. Driving on narrow, winding Italian roads can be an adventure. When the directions say sharp curves, they mean it.

Robert, June

Overall:
If one does not mind being "in the country," there cannot be a better villa, especially for the money.
Enjoyed Most:
The outdoor patio, the pool area and the spectacular view. Also, we hired Francesca, one of the housekeepers, to cook several meals for us. She was excellent and the price was less than what we spent in restaurants. We highly recommend her.
Enjoyed Least:
Small refrigerator, no instructions in how to use the washing machine, and sometimes poor water pressure.
Surrounding Area:
The area is very beautiful and the central location between Siena and Florence puts all of Tuscany within easy driving for day trips.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Bagnano, which was about a 5 minute walk. The nearest towns with super markets and other stores were Certaldo and Tavernelle Val di Pesa, both about 10 to 15 minute drives
Tips or Restaurants:
We thought it was a fabulous villa and enjoyed our entire stay. We thought the restaurant in Petrognano (we do not recall the name but we think it's the only one in the town) was excellent. When you check in, ask Chiara how to use the washing machine. There are multiple cycles and we had several loads that went, literally, 12 hours before it finished.

Keith, June

Overall:
It's a beautiful property that could be made into an unforgettably lovely experience with just some hands on property management and maintenance.
Enjoyed Most:
The size and location and views of the villa. The cooking and service provided by Francesca and her daughter Chiarra. Chiarra spoke English and helped us a lot. We were also helped by the English tenant, Chris, who held our luggage for us when airline lost our bags for 3days, she also emailed hotels in Italian on our behalf, and pulled local Certaldo train schedule from the internet.
Enjoyed Least:
Outmoded or dysfunctional appliances and lack of routine maintenance review. No English instructions for use of appliances. The house phone was poorly located in a bedroom downstairs and had no instructions for how to use the phone.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful views and friendly people.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring toilet paper and soap and beach towel and facial tissue, dishwasher and laundry soap. also bring a laptop computer to have some access to services plane, train, car rentals. Best shopping is in San Gimignano on Thursdays and Saturday. Lucca also good but further. Good restaurant within walking distance in Bagnano, La Botteghina di Wilma - very accommodating for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Good for buying local wines, coffee, bread or tobacco. Great restaurant at La Spinosa winery BB in Barberino Val' d'Elsa.

Victor, May

Enjoyed Most:
This Villa is wonderful. It is very large and comfortable with a huge amount of space. Excellent location.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen appliances are old but very acceptable. The only real downside is the laundry room. A small washer and no dryer. And it would not hurt to have electric plug converters that are compatible with American appliances. We burned up a hair dryer and a phone charger using a converter that we brought with us that turned out to be incompatible.
Surrounding Area:
Lovely area! Beautiful countryside and a very good location.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Both Barberino and Certaldo are relatively close but neither is within normal walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Make sure you bring a few good electric converters. There is a wonderful restaurant in Certaldo called "Latini". The owners are very kind. The husband is local and his wife is from Washington State. Food is Tuscan and spectacular. The place is relatively small and gets filled easily so get there early. Early being before 8 PM as people there eat regularly between 8 and 9. Also the little trattoria just down from the Villa is very good for dinner. Nothing special - just very good Tuscan fare. Usually rabbit, wild boar, tripe and chicken liver spread on toasted crude bread are offered along with pasta, steak, pork and the like. Very sweet people and very reasonable prices. Get the house wine anywhere in the Tuscan countryside and you can't go wrong. Finish with a glass of Vin Santo. Make sure you stop at a Coop supermarket early on because they do not stay open very late and you will need things like toilet paper, paper towels, drinking water, etc. One other thing. There was an electrical storm that hit one day when we were away and it knocked out the refrigerator and dishwasher. Ask Chiara to explain where this surge protector-circuit breaker is before she leaves on your check in day. Also, you do not enter via the front gate, but have to enter by way of the farm next door and drive around back and into the villa grounds from the rear.
Directions:
Directions are difficult in Italy at best. If you find yourself in Tavernelle and you are traveling in the direction that puts the Coop on your left you are going the proper direction. Just continue out of Tavernelle and then go through Barberino. Just as you are leaving Barberino turn right and then immediately left. About two or three miles later and after the extreme curves be on the lookout for the property on the left with beautiful wrought iron fence and gate in front.
Check In Out:
I say the process was very good because once we established who was to meet us and where she was. Chiara and her mother were both excellent once we found them.

Frank, April

Enjoyed Most:
The property is conveniently located to several of the areas we wanted to visit, i.e., Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Lucca and the Chianti region.
Enjoyed Least:
The first time we stayed at this villa the property manager lived on the property. We found her presence is be helpful. This visit we did not have the same level of guidance and attention.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful - beautiful countryside.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest small town was Certaldo. It was not within walking distance, however, the grocery store was well stocked and fulfilled our shopping needs.

Vicki, September

Enjoyed Most:
We really loved the view. The kids loved the chickens and the cat. It was a very charming villa.
Enjoyed Least:
Not too much to say that is negative.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area was beautiful. There were a lot of places to see and visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The town of Bagnano was a 5-minute walk and there is a small restaurant that is good for lunches.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring bug repellent. The restaurant down the road going towards Barberino Val D'Elsa was excellent. Another good one is in the town of Piazza.

Avril, July

Overall:
Would definitely recommend and surely rent this property again! A real gem, exceeded expectations of all 12 guests----and that is hard to do.
Enjoyed Most:
Peace and quiet, the views and just the overall setting.
Enjoyed Least:
Other renter nearby in a separate house about 40 meters away was dropped off every night at 2:00am------not really too bad after enough wine!
Surrounding Area:
Easy access to just about anywhere in Tuscany.
Tips or Restaurants:
Just bring the usual personal bath and some kitchen items. Need to bring spices.

Fritz, May

Overall:
This villa lived up to all of our expectations. The property is a working vineyard and farm. so expect the clucking of chickens in the morning and the occasional wandering cat. Andrea, the key holder, was working on this year's vintage, so there was plenty of activity in the afternoon hours. Andrea took the time to introduce the Vintner and explain the wine making process. A day later we returned home to find that Andrea had left large basket of grapes, just picked, waiting for us to enjoy with a glass of wine and the cheese we picked up that day from the little shop down the road. This is the spot to come for a complete relaxing vacation. Wander the olive groves, pick roadside grapes, have a glass of great inexpensive wine while looking at a million-dollar view. I will be back.
Enjoyed Most:
The view is wonderful. The property is situated at the top of a large valley with stunning views. Built in 1650, it has exposed beamed ceilings, tile floors, a huge kitchen and many sitting and spacious bedrooms.
Enjoyed Least:
Access is a bit tough. To get to a main road you have to travel through a few miles of very narrow and curvaceous roads.
Surrounding Area:
The area around the villa is picturesque. The vineyards, farms and homes are picture perfect. Very quiet and rural setting.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Barberino is the closest town about 10 km. away. It has all the essential shopping, including a COOP, a large grocery-chain store. There is a dry cleaner-laundry, small grocery store, bank, and other necessity retailers as you come into the town on the right hand side just off the road.
Tips or Restaurants:
There are four restaurants in the immediate area. 500 meters down the hill from the Villa there is a small Cafe with tiny grocery store. Good for a quick meal or necessities. Towards Barberino, there is Le Campanille, a fabulous family-run restaurant. Great wine list and huge antipasto dishes. Order the seafood antipasto. The sister restaurant owned by the same family also called Le Campanille, is in Barberino above the main road in the small square of the old town. Great views, more limited menu, great value. San Flippo is in the small town right on the main road toward the Autostrada, 2 KM on the left, next to the hotel. The chef is the owner and the food is very good, with a good local wine list. Also, a good value, with fresh and homemade tastes.
Check In Out:
Andrea, the key holder, lives on the adjacent property and is a warm and delightful man who tried to make our stay comfortable. He also gave us many directions to local hot spots.

Jack, October

Overall:
It's a beautiful property. The house was built in 1616 and has a lot of charm. The fireplace in the smaller dining room is a treat. Andreas, the grounds keeper, has an apartment at the villa, and Chiara did housekeeping and cooked with her mother for us. They were a wonderful help to all of us.
Enjoyed Most:
As others have stated, the view off the back of the property is gorgeous, including seeing the towers of San Gimignano. Our beds were really comfy, we all cooked up a storm in the kitchen and spent a lot of our time on the patio just taking in the scenery.
Enjoyed Least:
The vehicle noise from the road is actually a bit loud. And having the phone in one of the bedrooms made it difficult to make calls at times.
Surrounding Area:
It was beautiful everywhere you looked. The restaurant down the hill was good; everyone was really nice. The local Ceramics school was a nice treat. Certaldo is a neat town...check out the castle on the hill. The train station in Certaldo can get you into Florence, etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We visited Certaldo frequently but had to drive to it. Just the restaurant down the hill with its attached little store is all that is really within walking distance. You must have access to a car if you stay at this villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
Shop at the COOP in Certaldo for groceries and dishwashing soap and laundry soap. The restaurant down the hill is very enjoyable and reasonable.
Check In Out:
We were a little early in our arrival and were accommodated beautifully. The check out went well, too. Everyone was most accommodating.

Liz, September

Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful location and the overall comfort of the space. The size of the property with many large rooms offered several wonderful settings for our group of ten.
Enjoyed Least:
The television is not Satellite but we never wanted to turn it on. There was too much else to do! The following items would improve the property: a large American coffee maker; a CD player and radio for music; the box springs are missing from one of the upstairs bedrooms with private bath; white plastic table on patio could be upgraded; the shower head in the laundry room bath needs to be replaced for better water spray control.
Surrounding Area:
We really enjoyed the beauty of the countryside with access to olive groves, vineyards, farm animals, etc. The proximity to Certaldo, Bagnano and Barberino were all helpful for food, restaurants, train station, information, etc.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Bagnano - less than one KM so it was walkable. The location is spectacular for the day trips to Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa and Florence. Our group made trips to all of those places in day trips or less. The drive was scenic and the access was great.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring plenty of bug spray and do grocery supply shopping upon arrival, or have someone shop for you and bring the items to the villa, like the The Tuscan Turtle. That was a real benefit! A rental car is necessary, even for getting to the train station.
Check In Out:
Andrea was extremely helpful! He met us promptly and was available by telephone whenever we needed him!

Sylvia, September

Enjoyed Most:
We really enjoyed the pool and the view from the back. We probably spent 90 percent of our waking hours outside. View of San Gimignano was wonderful. Would suggest removing one of the trees to expand the view. Location was also perfect for sightseeing around the Chianti region. A few of the days we picked a hilltop village in the area to go see late in the afternoon. Had a wonderful meal in Monteriggioni. I can't remember the name of the restaurant.
Enjoyed Least:
We had 5 kids ages 6 to 17, so a bigger TV and VCR-DVD would be great. The Olympics were going on, so a dish that picked up English channels would have been a nice extra. With 12 people, we could have used a bigger coffee maker. The furniture on the patio could use some upgrading. We ate and spent a good deal of time there. Also, need a sign out front that says the name of the property.
Surrounding Area:
What's not to enjoy? Barberino was a treat. as was Pertagnano. Easy access to numerous small hilltop villages.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Bagnano, if you can call it a town. Nice little store and small restaurant which was a savior when we first arrived. Next in line, Barberino which as mentioned above was a treat.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant in Monteriggioni was wonderful. It is right on the main square but can't remember the name. Main suggestion is to bring engough food and supplies to get through to Monday.

Keith, August

Overall:
We highly recommend it! It was wonderful!
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was beautiful, the views, gardens and pool superb, the caretaker was friendly and very helpful. The location was perfect and day trips to surrounding hill towns as well as Florence were a breeze. The olive oil and wine produced on the property were very good. The view of San Gimignano from the yard was incredible!
Enjoyed Least:
No comment as we really have nothing negative to say.
Surrounding Area:
The countryside was just beautiful, we loved the cupola di San Michele Arcangelo, the tiny hill town of Barberino
Nearby Events or Locales:
Walking to a town would be difficult, but there is a wonderful small store and restaurant about a five minute walk from the Villa. The nearest small town of Barbera is about a 5 to 10 minute car ride.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa is very well equipped. All we had to buy was food. Avoid the local restaurant in Petragnono as the prices were out of site and the food average

Lisa, July

Overall:
It completely met our expectations - we were all very pleased.
Enjoyed Most:
The view, pool, comfortable living areas, and location. Kitchen and dining room easily accomodated our group of 13. Very family-friendly layout.
Enjoyed Least:
The noise. especially in the early morning but also at night. While you can hardly complain about the roosters, the workers were noisy.
Surrounding Area:
We took day trips to San Gimignano, Voltera, Siena, Florence, Lucca and Greve Chianti road. All easily accessable and interesting.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Our property was situated between Certaldo and Barbarino. Neither are within walking distance. Certaldo is the bigger town and has a good supermarket.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. Go to the tourist information center in Barbarino for good local maps and local activities. We hired a cook, Simone, to prepare two meals for us. The food and service were great. The state wine of 5 Euros a bottle was very good and a great value.
Check In Out:
Andrea was very helpful.

David, June

Overall:
We had dinner at the villa one night and Simona was delightful as well as the meal!
Enjoyed Most:
The view. The rural location. The people who met us and helped us were very nice
Enjoyed Least:
It was farther from Florence than expected. We were very cold, and had problems with the heat. The washer was difficult and time consuming to use. The living room was rather cold in feeling and not very comfortable.
Surrounding Area:
The area was very beautiful!
Check In Out:
The people were very pleasant to deal with!

Patricia, March

Overall:
This is the second holiday rental trip we have planned for this group of friends and family and they look forward to another trip.
Enjoyed Most:

Coming home everyday to the villa was a delight. The entire property is comfortable and inviting. We enjoyed the fireplace in the dining room.
Enjoyed Least:

There is not an American style coffee maker.
Surrounding Area:

We spent many evenings taking in the views at the back of the property. The terrain is very representative of Tuscany.

October

Enjoyed Most:
It's a large and beautiful villa, in a beautiful setting. The location is ideal for many day trips. We truly loved everything about it. It's old and has charm and beauty, yet is updated and very functional. We loved the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful countryside and views of San Gimignano in the distance. A truly perfect location.
Tips or Restaurants:
We loved ll Paese dei Campanell, a beautiful restaurant located in the nearby deserted town of Petrognano. A very romantic and magical outdoor setting. We had a chef and interpreter come to cook with us one evening. It was lots of fun! I would definitely recommend it! We enjoyed day trips to Florence, San Gimignano, Pisa, Lucca and Volterra.
Directions:
Be prepared that most Italian Highways and roads do not have names. They just have signs to name towns or cities in the direction you are heading.

Melissa, July

Overall:
The villa was exactly like you might imagine an Italian villa built in the 1600's that was expanded it was absolutely delightful. The setting and the gardens were very beautiful. There were potted lemon trees loaded with fruit, roses in bloom and wisteria draped over many of the outbuildings old tile roofs. The brick and stone terraces, walks through the various gardens, surrounding vineyards and olives, the views of distant hilltowns and a nicely maintained pool all helped to reinforce by sight and sound and smell the quintessential Tuscan experience.
Events or locales:

Petrognano - Beautiful little medieval village next door to villa that was just a pleasure to drive through. Full moon in San Gimignano although I realize you didn't have much to do with this one!
Tips or Restaurants

Bagagno cafe - great for casual dining - try the ravioli - walking distance to villa.

June

Overall:
An absolutely beautiful property! The villa was very welcoming and comfortable. Breakfast and dinner at the villa really gave us the sense that we were living in Tuscany. Perfectly situated for touring Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:

We especially liked having drinks with our friends at sunset, looking over the towers of San Gimignano.
Surrounding Area:

Some of the best vistas I've seen. We visited a number of towns but Montalcino was the most enjoyable.

June

Overall:
The property exceeded our expectations! the photos and descriptions were not adequate in their praise of the surroundings, the views and the people who service the environs.
Enjoyed Most:
The cleanliness was immaculate, the vistas breathtaking and the ambiance soothing. The combination of relaxation, rustic but elegant surroundings and the proximity to nature and beauty has been unmatched in my experience.
Enjoyed Least:
Only a cultural difference and a slight one at that.., the lack of screens was mentioned by many people in our party. I myself, prefer their absence.
Surrounding Area:
The local store and local restaurants were quite astounding, mixing the flavor of the region with flexible hours one would find more often in stateside situations. The Chianti region is simply breathtaking during this time of year!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Many wine and Olive Oil factories dotted the roads which were more than open to visits and tastings, as well as some cermaic factories which were often open for inspection.
Tips or Restaurants:
Il Campanile is very good food but a bit stodgy, make sure you are dressed at least semiformally, the staff is great but the other patrons are a bit stiff.

Douglas, September

Overall:
There were some idiosyncracies, but it was lovely and we had a great time!
Enjoyed Most:
The pool, the bathrooms, the space, and the view of San Gimignano. We enjoyed eating el fresco every meal.
Enjoyed Least:
The washing machine and the coffee maker. Some rooms were furnished beautifully, and some seemed incomplete. There was quite a bit of street noise. The garden is aging but not unpleasant.
Surrounding Area:
The chapel on the hill was lovely.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The chapel on the hill and Petrognano.
Tips or Restaurants:
We ate at the Campenelli several times and were charmed. We had excellent pizza in the old section of Barberino.

August

Enjoyed Most:
Cleanliness, well-maintained, decoratively furnished, pool, comfortable beds.
Enjoyed Least:
Difficult to find. Spent an hour wandering last 3 km. Villa not well marked. Front gates were locked and were never unlocked. Had to enter through farmyard next door.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful setting and scenery. Nice store nearby, open all the time. Fruit trees and vegetables - figs, pears, tomatoes, basil - and no charge.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Beautiful town of Alto Certaldo with fascinating museum and lovely restaurant with great view called Osteria del Vicario.
Tips or Restaurants:
Fun pizzaria in Sciano. Very popular with locals. Reservations needed.

March

Overall:
We loved it! It exceeded our expectations, and was certainly a good value. The location was fantastic. We would go back there without question. The views were spectacular. It was more than adequately equipped. Anna, the housekeeper, was very helpful.
Enjoyed Least:
It is a working farm, so they had chickens, including a rooster who likes to roar early in the morning. Once you get used to his crowing, there are no Enjoyed Least.
Surrounding Area:
There is a small, locally owned and managed store within walking distance. Great for morning cup of coffee
Tips or Restaurants:
If you rent a car, get all of the insurance you can - the drivers are aggressive and the roads are small.

November

Overall:
It was better than expected or described, and a good value. The area is absolutely beautiful. We could see San Gimignano from the yard. The property was plenty large for eight people. Views were wonderful, just what you expect of Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:
We particularly liked having a caretaker on the premises. We liked having the villa part of a working farm as it created additional interest.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was small.
Surrounding Area:
While somewhat remote, stores and restaurants were not distant, and we cold reach almost all the hill towns within an hour.
Tips or Restaurants:
Good restaurants: Trattoria del Campanella in Petronagno and Antica Borgo in Tavernelle.
