Customer Reviews

Overall:
It was comfortable, clean, and conveniently located.
Enjoyed Most:
The castle and beautiful scenery.
Tips or Restaurants:
It's important to rent a car.

Misty, September

Overall:
It was fun to be staying at a castle. The location was good. The place itself was neat and clean and for our needs it was fine.
Enjoyed Most:
Walking around the property was enjoyable. Finding the grotto with its statuary just by chance was fun.
Enjoyed Least:
Without sounding too grumpy, I guess I was expecting to have more privacy. Others' tables and chairs outside were very close. The indoor lighting was minimal at night, the kitchen was basic, and we would have liked to have had more hot water for showers.
Surrounding Area:
Very pretty area. Throughout the trip I never got tired of looking at the olive groves and grape vineyards and the wonderful castles and fortified towns.
Tips or Restaurants:
For our last night, we tried the restaurant just 15 minutes away and it was excellent.
Directions:
Thank heavens for GPS.

Overall:
Wonderful. Wonderful. A magnificent castle with out-buildings in beautiful countryside. We rented 5 units - all in the out-buildings. I entered the same comments for all 5 units.
Enjoyed Most:
The old castle is from a movie set. Beautiful. The out-buildings are tastefully blended in.
Enjoyed Least:
Kitchens were a little primitive, but quite adequate. The in-house restaurant seemed expensive.
Surrounding Area:
The views and the clean air.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana was about a 15-minute easy walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
Eating out or eating in cooking are both good options.
Directions:
There are 2 entrances to the estate. One is easier than the other. Look around.
Check In Out:
Keyholder is in the out-buildings after hours.

Overall:
Castello 14 e benissimo!
Enjoyed Most:
The villa was cute and peaceful. The staff at the castello are very helpful and friendly. The views were spectacular and the entire property of the castle was gorgeous. The outdoor area was a great space to sit outside with wine and take in the scenery.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room was not really usable. The fireplace needs something at the top of it to prevent the strong winds from overwhelming the room. It was usually too cold from wind to spend too much time sitting in the living room. Fires were fun to try, but the room quickly filled up with smoke.
Surrounding Area:
Castello was in a great location to be able to visit all of Tuscany. We would leave in the mornings to drive to various towns and were able to cover a lot of territory each day. Even the towns around the castle are really cute and a fun place to explore for the day.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Baccaiano and Montagnana are both within walking distance. Montagnana is up the hill from the castle and is an easy walk. There is a little grocery store in both towns, a post office, and a cafe or restaurant. In Montagnana there's a winery right outside of town that has free tastings and offers tours. The restaurant right in the town was probably one of the best meals I had on the entire trip. It is definitely worth eating there at some point on a trip. Baccaiano is down the hill. The walk up can be challenging. Don't try walking to Montespertoli - the road is not made for pedestrians. But if you take a bus or car it is one of the bigger towns and worth visiting.
Tips or Restaurants:
- Nothing is 5 minutes away, but you will be told everything in 5 minutes. - If you are taking a bus to the castle make sure you go really early and plan ahead. On the Saturday we arrived the closest bus stop to the castle was Baccaiano. The walk up is really difficult with luggage. It is better to plan on going on a day when there is a bus to Montagnana or Montegufoni. - Definitely rent a car. It is worth it. You will have much more freedom and really be able to see Tuscany.

Overall:
We will go back, it just doesn't get any better. The grounds around the castle were so well maintained, and the views across the valley were a benediction.
Enjoyed Most:
The location was incredible, the view and scenery spectacular. It was everything that we hoped for, amazing to be on a hillside in the middle of a vineyard and olive grove. We loved just sitting out watching the colors change as the sunset, it was ethereal.
Surrounding Area:
All the little villages that surrounded the castle. We spent several mornings in Montespertoli, stopped in Baccaiano in the evening coming home, just loved driving around the country side.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Yes, you could have walked to Montagnana and Baccaiano.
Tips or Restaurants:
We didn't need the towels that we brought. There was a restaurant across from the gas station in Montagnana right up the hill, I think the name was Focarelli, great place, great food. Several good restaurants on the central square in Montespertoli.

Overall:
I loved the place and the whole experience. We will all be returning in the future!
Enjoyed Most:
The beautiful views, the large bedrooms, the outside space, the high ceilings and how peaceful it was. The staff were absolutely superb and the food in the restaurant was delicious!
Enjoyed Least:
I can't think of anything! Oh, except there were no sun loungers by the pool!
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful countryside and vineyards. The place was very peaceful!
Nearby Events or Locales:
It was about 1km away. The town was very small and the trek back up to the castle was hard work! The bakery in the town was fab, though. There was an excellent play area for children.
Tips or Restaurants:
You will need to bring condiments like salt and pepper. Visit the castle restaurant on an evening as the food is delicious! The restaurant is also a great place to get snacks from during the day!
Directions:
No problems finding the property!
Check In Out:
The staff were excellent. They were really helpful and thoughtful!

Enjoyed Most:
It was a very comfortable property for our large 2-family group with 4 children. The bedrooms were good and the common living space roomy enough. The office staff was very friendly and helpful, and walking around the gardens and property was very enjoyable. The joggers in our group had lovely areas for runs.
Enjoyed Least:
The fireplace in the living room was tricky to use and smoke backed up into the room even when the winds outside were mild.
Surrounding Area:
The countryside was gorgeous in early spring and was just what I was hoping for in a visit to the Tuscan countryside.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We had excellent meals in local restaurants recommended by the office at Montegufoni. There was a tasting room for a winery just a short walk away from the property.
Tips or Restaurants:
The kitchen did not have any staples such as salt, pepper, paper towels, dishwashing liquid. We purchased these at a local store. However, coffee filters were available and laundry detergent was provided with the washing machines. There's no clothes dryer, so plan ahead for lots of time to hang and dry your clothes, especially if you have damp weather.

Overall:
Overall, the place was just excellent. I would definitely recommend this place. The location, view, the castle itself, the history, and the very clean accommodations were well worth putting up with some loud French tourists and the Germans who stole our table!.
Enjoyed Most:
The castle and grounds were spectacular. The buildings and gardens were very well maintained!
Enjoyed Least:
The only downside was the noise. The buildings are close together, and it is very much a family destination. Large families produce a lot of noise! We were three women on our own and would have enjoyed a more adult spot. The main pool was overrun with children. However the second pool was quiet, this one is located on the lower property -- which seemed to be much more peaceful all around---yet, I think this was more luck then anything else, as the children there were simply less rambuctious. Conversely, if you are looking for a family friendly vacation -- this is certainly the place!
Surrounding Area:
The little town up the hill was lovely -- and we were close to Florence, wine country, Siena and Pisa---all the spots we wanted to visit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town is Montespertoli and no, it was not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant selections in Montespertoli are very good, and the employees at the castle were very helpful. Remember that there is an 11 Eu charge per person for final cleaning with a 44 Eu minimum.
Check In Out:
Very easy---very nice staff---very accommodating.

Lisa, July

Enjoyed Most:
The fireplace, firm beds, big dining table, and bathrooms.
Enjoyed Least:
There was no oven and it took a while to figure out how to get the right 'draw' for the fireplace. Also, we wished we had known that heating was included in the rental price as it was very cold. We were a bit nervous about using the heat as we had no idea of the the cost.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montagnana - yes, about a mile away
Tips or Restaurants:
You will need to purchase cooking/household essentials (salt, pepper, etc) upon arrival.

Penny, April

Enjoyed Most:
The location - off the beaten path, but easy to find and navigate to other areas to explore.
Enjoyed Least:
The living room area only had 2 chairs. Not enough room for a property that can sleep 8 people!
Surrounding Area:
Not typical touristy towns. Felt more like a native!
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring mosquito repellant or buy the little Italian Vape device.
Directions:
The directions took us right to the door!

Vallerie, May

Overall:
I have been to Montegufoni before. I loved it then and I loved it this year!
Enjoyed Most:
The rooms were a good size. The furnishings are comfortable. The property is well kept. What I like most is that it is very peaceful. Beautiful setting. Well located for day trips to Florence, Siena, Lucca etc. The pool is very nice. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Enjoyed Least:
No where in your description does it say that Montegufoni #14 is an outer building. We were a little disappointed that we were not in the main castle. I think you should make that clear in the literature.
Surrounding Area:
Everything! On Sunday night the piazza in Montespertoli is hopping. We really enjoyed a day trip to Lucca and Siena. There are restaurants in the local village as well as nice little markets. Local people are friendly.

Patrick, June

Overall:
A beautiful castle and grounds. We loved the kitchen, and the fact that we could spread out and have some privacy. The place did get a bit noisy with the cars etc. from the close road.
Enjoyed Least:
The only bad thing was that one night we left our key inside the apartment and when we got back no one was around to help us.
Surrounding Area:
The fact that we were within an easy drive of Siena, Pisa, Lucca, and the beautiful scenary.
Nearby Events or Locales:
there was a local wine fesitval in Montespertoli.
Tips or Restaurants:
La Terrazza in Montespertoli- very good food- high quality there are some ceramics shops in the area with very reasonable prices Ipercoop in Lista de Signa is wonderful- lots of ready made food etc.
