Customer Reviews

Overall:
Very good. The property management had lots of cheeses, meats, bread and wine for us upon arrival. Both kitchens were well stocked with glassware, dishes, pots and pans.
Enjoyed Most:
There were 11 people enjoying the spaciousness. This included 2 married couples . Most had individual rooms but in 2 rooms you can separate beds to make 2 twins. The villa very comfortable and very lovely. The views from property are beautiful. Nice outdoor spaces to gather. The pool was lovely but did not use at this time of year.
Enjoyed Least:
Because there is no small grocery near by, we went into Siena for supplies. Not a problem if you have a car. We made it work by using a taxi into Siena.
Surrounding Area:
The surrounding area is beautiful with rolling hills and vineyards. Enjoyed the evening sunsets. Could walk down roads to see beautiful views and saw other villas.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena is nearest town but not within walking distance. This group didn't have a car so we relied on taxi service to get to town. The town is only about a 15-20 minute drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
There are 2 good restaurants within a mile walking distance. However because we didn't have a car we had to use a taxi since the road is much too curvy and dark to navigate at night for dinner. Ristorante Montalbuccio was one we walked to in daytime for late lunch and got a carry out of pizza. I would recommend renters bring bath soap, dish towels that can pack in luggage. Supplies are limited but coffee there for first few days . Cleaning supplies are there.
Directions:
There were 3 different groups arriving at the villa since our group of 11 came from other tours. The driver coming from Cinque Terre was familiar with the address so did not have not much trouble. The other 2 groups had difficulty finding it. It is located on winding roads.
Check In Out:
Diana was most helpful. She stayed on property site until all of us arrived. She instructed us on use of gate key, locks on door. She gave us taxi information, how to call her if needed, turning on TV, how to use washer.

Johnnie Lynn, October

Overall:
As a group of 10 friends and neighbors, we really enjoyed all the space, both inside and out, to be together or to have privacy. Loved cooking together and comfortable dining areas! The grounds and pool were delightful!
Enjoyed Most:
The very spacious dining areas, lovely outdoor spaces and the chapel living room was just beautiful. The view of surrounding Tuscany was just amazing!
Enjoyed Least:
A bit difficult to get home to and not really within walking distance to dining or groceries.
Surrounding Area:
Short drive into Siena and very accessible to several Tuscan hill towns. Beautiful countryside!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Don't remember the name but we did have a nice dinner there. The walk would be about 25 minutes over quite narrow and curving country roads.
Tips or Restaurants:
We found everything needed right at the villa, including beach towels. It would have been nice to have a bigger supply of liquid dish soap and dish washer detergent.
Directions:
We did use a GPS but found it a mistake to use the given coordinates. Best way to find was by the actual address.
Check In Out:
We called the key holder as instructed and both in/out went very smoothly.

Penelope, May

Overall:
Amazing!
Enjoyed Most:
Spacious but not overwhelming and comfortable for large groups. Views amazing! Surrounded by olive trees and a vineyard next door. Jesus, the caretaker, is very helpful and always available (limited English).
Enjoyed Least:
Entrance into property is a tight fit especially if you rented a large car or van. The road to the villa is narrow watch so you need to watch for speeders.
Surrounding Area:
Views and beautiful countryside.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena NOT walkable. Road narrow and very hilly
Tips or Restaurants:
Basic necessities for everyday day use are needed (paper towels ,TP,soap). You need to pretty much buy everything for the kitchen (sponges, plastic wrap, dishwashing liquid, sugar, salt and pepper). Each couple brought their own personal items from home. Internet spotty at best. Restaurant in Florence "La Giostra" is recommended. When traveling to Florence drive to outskirts of Florence than take tram in-- so much more convenient then parking inside Florence. Get a good guide book be sure to check out San Gimignano and Orvieto. Be mindful of utility use as it can wind up being expensive at end of stay especially if you need to use the A/C.
Directions:
They were actually spot on , just be mindful of staying on A1 (right lane)
Check In Out:
Check in and out very smooth.

Cathie, September

Overall:
Beyond wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
Having breakfast outside with the beautiful view.
Surrounding Area:
Everything.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena; not in walking distance but a short drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Just enjoy the experience! Used GPS.

Joyce, September

Overall:
We found the property to offer one of the best vacation experiences we had ever had. The view was staggeringly beautiful, the outdoor area, including a few places to enjoy a meal or coffee, the pool and the neighborhood were lovely, and the villa itself--a work of art. Very well restored and maintained.
Enjoyed Most:
Truly hard to decide, there were a few. The way the house lay out allowed people to have their private space and to gather easily. The view from the arbors was breathtaking. The pool was perfectly placed so that late night swims did not disturb anyone sleeping. Sitting in the chapel was incredible. And, of course, there was Jesus (the manager) who was wonderful, very responsive to our requests (he repaired the WiFi and pool lighting which we let him know were not working, and was helpful with restaurant and driving directions).
Enjoyed Least:
If I go back and carefully read through the description, I find that it clearly states that the place is only partially air conditioned. However, that was unfortunately kind of a surprise. Given that the week we were there it was unusually hot (in the 90"s), it made the chapel living space uncomfortable.
Surrounding Area:
As previously mentioned, the views were incredible. We took a walk through the neighborhood on one of the days. (Facing the villa from the street we went to the left). We wanted to see more of the places we'd passed by when driving, and it was well worth it. There was an abandoned farmhouse, several caves dug out of rock that were very intriguing (but none of us was equipped to go farther than the entrance), and a castle that we thought was open to the public, but turned out to be a private residence.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I would not recommend walking on the streets in the dark. It's really dark, and could be a little iffy (no sidewalks and lots of curves).
Tips or Restaurants:
These owners were incredible. It was like they were entertaining us rather than renting to us! They provided beach towels, bath soap, washcloths and even a bottle of wine and bowl of fruit. Who knows if those last two were left by the people before, but who cares. It was really fantastic.
Directions:
I'm not good with directions, so I have no idea. But, here's what happened. We went the wrong way. Apparently the villa can be reached two ways. One, call it the "right way" comes from the main road, on which the grocery store is located. The other way, the back way.... is the one we took. We had to call Jesus several times for directions, and he finally came to get us and we followed him.
Check In Out:
Be aware that the security deposit is due in cash, as stated on the voucher.

Amy, July

Enjoyed Most:
We loved the beautiful setting.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful towns to visit.

Gail, July

Overall:
It was lovely. View of Siena was just beautiful. We felt quite secure with the electronic gates.
Enjoyed Most:
It was so spacious--we had a wonderful room where we could all gather to discuss our day and plan for the next. Loved that it had televisions and they even had American news channels from which to choose.
Enjoyed Least:
There were a few kinks we had to learn about, like if we had no hot water which buttons to push.
Surrounding Area:
It was very close to Siena, which we loved, and not ever far to drive to surrounding areas, no more than 2 hours to go to any other town of interest in the Tuscany region. The Ristorante Montebuccio is just a blink down the hill from the villa and it is the best place to eat. Has great selections from salmon to pizza and we ate there often but we often had to have a reservation--it is that good!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena was nearest and it is a bit of a drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ristorante Montebuccio, which is very close. In Siena, Nannini's on Piazza il Campo and Guido's.
Directions:
Had to have a gps for sure.
Check In Out:
No, Jesus, the caretaker, was there immediately and often when we needed him, and checking out was what we had anticipated.

Susan And Bill, November

Overall:
Overall it was a great experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The main sitting room
Enjoyed Least:
Some appliances are old.
Surrounding Area:
The georgeous views, easy to get to other small towns.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena and it wasn't within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Get caretaker to show you where to catch the Line 21 bus (near the abandoned little church on the road) to get you into Siena, but you need pre-bought tickets first to catch it.
Directions:
Our transport driver used the GPS and found it with no problem.
Check In Out:
Check in and out was no problem.

Vassa, September

Overall:
The overall experience was great.
Enjoyed Most:
The outside sitting area was great with the view. The history behind the property was interesting, too.
Enjoyed Least:
The flying insects that invaded the kitchen area every night no matter how careful we were to keep doors closed.
Surrounding Area:
It was beautiful to go for walks around the area. There is a nice restaurant down the road a bit.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena. Not within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
Ask about the cost of the electricity and gas. It is very expensive, so remember to turn off all lights. The Ristorante Montalbuccio down the road is really nice, great food. Buy ticket for bus in town so you can catch bus in as you need a pre purchased ticket. Use Line 21 bus stop near the little abandoned church at the crossroads - best way to get into Siena.
Directions:
The directions for us were fine. Our transport driver used the GPS co-ordinates supplied and found the property easily.
Check In Out:
The check in/check out was fine.

Vassa, September

Overall:
Superb.
Enjoyed Most:
The property was gorgeous, the scenery calming, the linens first rate, the house well supplied. But above all it was the views that I loved.
Enjoyed Least:
Musty smell in the small bedroom off the kitchen. It never went away. Editor's Note: Action was taken to resolve the issue mid-summer 2014 and the musty odor was eradicated; the owners are continuing to monitor the situation. May, 2015.
Surrounding Area:
Siena was not far, which was very nice.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalbuccio, you could walk to it.
Tips or Restaurants:
Pretty much everything is in the house.
Directions:
GPS did not work! You must follow the directions sent by RentVillas. The directions say look for a Best Western...we never saw it. It was really really hard to find this villa, but once there we were so happy.

Marianne, August

Overall:
Wonderful.
Enjoyed Most:
The chapel living room and the views.
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful countryside, friendly neighbors.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena. Not really within walking distance.
Directions:
I used GPS and it sent us up the road from opposite side - this was very long and confusing.
Check In Out:
Jesus, the caretaker, was excellent.

Michael, August

Overall:
Great. Would go again.
Enjoyed Most:
The seclusion, the view and the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen is a bit tight for cooking for a group. With heavy rain the caminetto has a leak.
Surrounding Area:
Its Tuscany!
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montebuccio... not quite.
Tips or Restaurants:
Montebuccio Ristorante--awesome local joint.
Directions:
The first time is tricky.

Matthew , July

Overall:
Wonderful. I stayed here 12 years ago and enjoyed it as much as I did the first time.
Enjoyed Most:
View. Lay out works for having a large group. Plenty of space for time together or for time to hang out by yourself.
Enjoyed Least:
We didn't receive instructions as to what to do in the event of a power outage. The car gates are electric and we didn't have a key for the walk in gate so we hung out til Jesus, the caretaker, came and let us out.
Surrounding Area:
Tuscany, whats not to like and enjoy.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena. A bus ride or 5 min drive.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you are people who like to cook bring some spices you like to cook with. Salt is there and fresh herbs are easy to find and buy. Pepper, cayenne, cinnamon etc are not. To buy a bottle of them is a waste when you are there for a short time. e.g. packets of pepper or some cinnamon in a zip lock bag is easy to bring.
Directions:
Some of my guests were lost. Easy to do in Italy. I had them GPS the coordinates for the Best Western in Siena, which is down the road. Once they got there they texted me and I drove down the road to meet them and lead them up. The address (there is a gate) is 18.The walk in door to the property is next down the road (it's locked) and the 2nd gate is number 16 after that. Good to know. There is a buzzer at the walk-in door which you can hear in the house. Bit tricky to know when people have arrived.
Check In Out:
Jesus is great and very helpful. The power went out during a rain storm. He came and helped us out. Enjoy everyone. It is great.

Helga, June

Overall:
Overall experience was excellent! The property was beautiful and well-cared for. Service when we needed it was also exceptional.
Enjoyed Most:
Views are beautiful and we loved the villa's well-preserved, old architecture.
Enjoyed Least:
Hot water was in and out, but they fixed it near the end of our stay.
Surrounding Area:
Siena is a spectacular place to visit and not very far away. We were also very central to many wine regions.
Nearby Events or Locales:
San Gimignano. Not within walking distance. There was nothing within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
We ate at one of the restaurants in the Palio area. Can't remember the name, but it was outstanding. When you faced the tall tower, it was the first restaurant on the right before the tower. It also helps to speak the language. We had them make us a special antipasto dish for 7 of us and also a pasta dish we could share. Entrees followed.
Directions:
Your directions were excellent. GPS in Italy sucks! You are better off buying a data plan and using your smartphone.
Check In Out:
It went well.

Pete, May

Overall:
It was by far the best vacation of my life and the property had so much to do with it! I had 13 friends join me to celebrate my 50th birthday and to have my celebration in such a wonderful place made it PERFECT!!
Enjoyed Most:
It was quiet, beautiful, peaceful and centrally located. I also allowed everyone to have privacy when they wanted it and be together when we wanted to.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful views and the convenience to the region.
Directions:
I suggest arriving while there is still daylight. It helps a lot.
Check In Out:
Jesus, the caretaker, was amazing - he was so wonderful to us on arrival and departure and all through our stay. My husband speaks Spanish and I know we have made a friend for life in Jesus. The check in and out was very easy.

Jackie, October

Overall:
We arrived in Siena the day before check-in which was a great idea as we had friends already traveling through Italy and others on their way. The directions to the villa were dead on, as we traveled down the dirt road Jesus was just opening the gates to heaven! The villa was everything and more. The views are breath taking and we spent everyday outside eating, talking and drinking wine and admiring the views. There were twelve of us staying at the villa and there was plenty of room for all! My partner and I had our wedding there and the whole event was set up by Original Tuscan Weddings; we had large catering trucks on site and the villa accommodated everything. Communicating with Simone was easy and if you don't speak Spanish or Italian, you will still be able to communicate with Jesus. I would return to this villa in a heartbeat! What an amazing stay.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were breathtaking and sitting outside having wine or just talking with friends and family made it that much more special! Even though it is large it still felt like a cozy home!
Surrounding Area:
The peace and quite. We saw neighbors on horses not far from the villa on the opposite hill. The villa is not far from Siena or other surrounding towns. We went to a local hot springs that was about 30 minutes away and it was amazing. It was easy access to the highway and it was great to get lost as you were surrounded by beauty anywhere you went.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The family restaurants were in walking distance but we didn't walk as the roads were really narrow. There are two family restaurants on Stradda di Montalbuccio close to the villa: one is a pizzeria and one is not. The one that is not is amazing--we loved sitting outside and dining and by the end of our trip we were hugging the chef and owners of the restaurant as the food was just wonderful! The grocery store was close--about 10 minutes away--as long as you didn't get lost or the GPS took you through town.
Tips or Restaurants:
We read what everyone else said to bring, so we followed suit. Since we were in Siena the day before we went to The Coop by the train station and stocked up. In addition to food, we bought toilet paper, sponges, dish detergent--and essentials, like wine! When you are in the villa in what we called the main kitchen (french doors go outside) look in the cabinets you will find candles etc. that others before have left, just like we did when we left. We organized a great wine tour and were picked up right at the villa and dropped off there, too.
Directions:
Follow the directions given and you are golden. We gave the directions to all of the guests staying at the villa some used them and some didn't. Those who didn't use them finally got to the the villa but had to take another very long route to get to us. We used GPS, but if you don't use it at home (like we don't) study up on it first to learn how to use it.
Check In Out:
Check in and out were smooth like butter!

Mark, September

Overall:
Great experience and one that I have and will continue to recommend to friends.
Enjoyed Most:
The peace and quite with amazing views.
Enjoyed Least:
Directions were challenging even with an iPhone with GPS for someone from the US, but ultimately we figured it out.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena. No, we drove.
Directions:
We used GPS and still had challenges finding the location the first time.

Paul, September

Overall:
We had such a good time! Fantastic.
Enjoyed Most:
The setting, the pool, the magnificent chapel, the spaciousness.
Enjoyed Least:
Only minor criticisms. The kitchen in the side house was a little small when catering for 13. The bedroom off that kitchen smelled a bit musty. Editor's Note: This problem was addressed mid-summer 2014 and the issue was resolved. The owners continue to monitor for recurrence. May, 2015.
Surrounding Area:
The view was classic Tuscany - everything that you could have wished for. Close to restaurants and supermarkets and of course, Siena. Close to main roads without being able to hear them.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Could have walked to closest resturant, but roads narrow and unlit at night.
Tips or Restaurants:
RentVillas.com has comprehensive comments from previous renters. Useful to know that Jesus speaks spanish. We shopped at Conad in the valley, but there is a very large and well stocked supermarket near the Siena railway station--about 20 minutes away.

Jane, July

Overall:
When we arrived at the villa we were absolutely blown away! It far exceeded our hopes of what the experience would be like. We had a wedding ceremony at the villa which couldn't have been more perfect for us! The owner Simone was so helpful with organizing the most amazing wedding meal prepared by a couple of chefs at the villa itself, as well as with all our general inquiries about the villa. Jesus was so friendly and helpful, despite the language barrier. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time in the villa with the magnificent views and villa lay out. Everywhere you turn there is something interesting to see. It was very homey. We highly recommend this place!
Enjoyed Most:
Everything! Location, scenery, and the converted chapel was very cool.
Surrounding Area:
Views. It is so lovely and feels like you are way out in the countryside yet it is so close to Siena! Cab drivers were all familiar with the location which is very helpful. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance, one we went to a couple times and the food was great. The closest supermarket is a 5-minute drive away.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town with shops was a few kms away along some winding roads so although possible to walk, wouldn't recommend, especially not when grocery shopping. Restaurants within walking distance though.
Tips or Restaurants:
Highly recommend renting a car for at least the start of your stay at the villa to get groceries, and doing any traveling outside of tour groups. It's not absolutely necessary but the bus is infrequent and although cabs are not too expensive it might add up after multiple trips. Take the flashlight if you walk to the restaurants. You can organize tours through the tourist info place in the Piazza del Campo, including pick up and drop off back at the villa.
Directions:
Make sure you follow the provided directions; we used Google Maps and it was a bit confusing.
Check In Out:
Jesus was flexible with check out. We needed to settle this fairly early on the last day and he was fine with this. He also organized some taxis for us. We were grateful for his help.

Kate, May

Overall:
We had such a wonderful time at the villa. We couldn't have asked for anything more. The villa was fully equipped with everything you could ask for. I rate it a "10".
Enjoyed Most:
The peace and quiet. The outdoor space was excellent. This property is well taken care of.
Surrounding Area:
The views, shopping, eating and the people were very friendly.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nothing was within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant down the hill is very good. Jesus (the key holder who checks you in) doesn't speak English so I would suggest installing a translator program on your iPad or phone. We did, and it made it very easy to converse with him.
Directions:
We did bring a GPS--and for some reason it took us the back way to the property. Once we found it, we were fine.
Check In Out:
Check in was very easy. Check out was just a easy. Jesus did a great job.

Lynda, April

Overall:
We loved it!
Enjoyed Most:
The chapel and the view.
Surrounding Area:
We had David Wagner's maps for town itineraries. These were marvelous and a good buy! The two restaurants just down the hill were good. The closest one has a sports program on the TV in it going all the time if you like that sort of thing (I don't).
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena was very close. A few miles but keep in mind the villa is at the top of a very steep hill and Siena is on other hills. In summer, I might have walked it. Not in winter. You need a car anyway and Italy is always a good place to walk within the towns - there are so many wonderful little passageways and streets. We had my 90-year-old mother with us. She is very game but was delighted to discover the escalators close to the Santa Caterina parking garage in Siena, and so were we.
Tips or Restaurants:
La Loggia was an excellent restaurant in Siena. Very good food. We ate there three times. We forgot to bring matches and there was no paper or kindling to start a fire.

Leigh, November

Overall:
We had an excellent experience at the Villa del Cielo. We were five couples, parents, brothers, sister, and spouses. We made very good use of the kitchen and Caminetto because we all love to cook. We even entertained family who live in Siena, used the outdoor barbeque, and ate under the arbor.
Enjoyed Most:
The peace, quiet, and privacy made for a serenely relaxing time. The villa is really divided into two sections with lots of rooms so we could find private spaces both inside and outside, or we could come together and socialize in the spacious common areas. We always came together in the evening, usually for supper, to talk about our day and plan the next.
Enjoyed Least:
In mid to late October, the villa was damp and very chilly so when we returned from our excursions, we spent most of our evenings in the dining room or the small living room because we could build a fire in the Caminetto every night. Doing laundry was difficult because we could not use the washer and dryer at the same time. Since we were spending two and three weeks in Italy, doing laundry was a necessity and with ten people, it sometimes felt like a marathon.
Surrounding Area:
Siena was a beautiful city with much to see and do. Tuscany is enchanting. We rented cars and traveled all over Tuscany and into Umbria. San Gimignano, Arezzo, Cortona, Firenze, Pisa, Lucca, Montalcino, Monteriggioni, Torre Lago di Puccini were some of the towns and cities we visited. We also had an amazing time at two vineyards and wineries, Castello Gabbiano and Castello Verrazzano. The last was particularly exceptional, and our guide/host Gino made it almost a spiritual experience.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monteriggioni was the closest town, but nothing was within walking distance. Since we had rented cars, this was not a problem, and Siena was very close, but one would not want to walk there. The roads leading from the villa are very narrow and winding.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would advise renters to follow the suggestions Rentvillas provides, bring wash cloths, laundry and dishwasher pods, etc. There are two excellent restaurants about a kilometer from the villa, but we did not have one bad meal no matter where we ate. We tended to stay away from the centers of the towns and looked for places off the beaten path. Hence, we had some amazing meals, including the ones we cooked.
Directions:
The GPSs that came with the cars were excellent. One person brought one from home; it was less accurate. We did use coordinates. I would advise renting a car with a GPS rather than bringing one from the States.
Check In Out:
Utility use is calculated at the end and payment is deducted from the deposit that is made upon arrival.

Connie, October

Overall:
We enjoyed our second visit to the villa very much. It offered spacious areas to be together and areas where you could be alone if you wanted. This visit we were able to enjoy the pool.
Enjoyed Most:
It is a beautiful property, very quiet and peaceful. We had 8 adults with different interests and it was accommodating. It is in a central location so that it's easy to travel to other locations but return in the evening.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchens are small but adequate, showers are small. The main travel to Siena is by taxi. There is a bus, but we never knew when or where to catch it.
Surrounding Area:
Great views. If you like to walk, there are many roads nearby with wonderful views.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town is Siena. It's a long walk, 4-5 K. Mostly downhill from the villa until you reach Siena, then it's all uphill into the city.
Tips or Restaurants:
We highly recommend having Matisse come in to cook for a dinner. We had him come both visits and the meals are wonderful. Everyone enjoyed them. Jesus, the caretaker is most helpful. If you have any problems, he helps with a smile. La Taverna di San Guiseppe at Via Giovanni Dupree 132 is a great restaurant in Siena, but make a reservation. There is a small restaurant within a 15- to 20-minute walk from the villa which is also good. Be sure to buy groceries if you are arriving in the evening for breakfast the next day.
Directions:
We used a taxi; the directions given were good, but note that the gas stations at the turn are no longer there.
Check In Out:
Jesus was very helpful in explaining the property. He is always most prompt.

Lani, October

Overall:
We had a fabulous time at this villa! When we arrived, we couldn't believe that the property looked exactly like the pictures - everything was gorgeous! The location is great - about a 10-minute drive to the town of Siena. There is a local restaurant about a mile away, which we very much enjoyed. We found the COOP in Siena (grocery store) and alternated between cooking and eating out.
Enjoyed Most:
The view is stunning. The villa itself is very roomy - more than enough space for the 9 of us who were there. We easily would have been comfortable with 15 people.
Enjoyed Least:
Avoid the first driveway - the hill is so steep that you will definitely bottom out as you try to exit. Also, the large coffeepot is SLOW - it takes about 45 minutes to brew a pot. There is a smaller coffee pot that's a little bit faster.
Surrounding Area:
Tuscany is stunning - what more is there to say! We spent a lot of time in Siena, and also visited San Gimignano, Castellina, and some wineries in Chianti.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The nearest town is Siena - it is NOT walkable. You need a car for this rental property. There is a restaurant about a mile away, but I would NOT recommend walking - there are no sidewalks and no shoulder!
Tips or Restaurants:
Note that this villa has 3-pronged electrical outlets (not the 2-pronged). The restaurant down the road is quite good and pretty cheap. We took a cooking lesson with Matisse, which was a wonderful introduction to Tuscan cuisine and culture.
Directions:
We could not have found the property without GPS.
Check In Out:
Smooth check-in and check-out process. Note that utilities are quite expensive in Italy - we paid 400 Euros for gas/electric for a week in September.

Shanna, September

Overall:
Excellent with lots of peace and quiet. No noise factor other than ourselves.
Enjoyed Most:
The view and spaciousness.
Surrounding Area:
Great to take a walk and see the many lovely places which are not visible from the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena is the closest.
Tips or Restaurants:
Everything is available at the property and the caretaker is only a phone call away and cannot do enough for you. We used the restaurants in Siena when we went out which was rare as the facilities at the villa are perfect for great dinners sitting outside with the fantastic view at night.
Directions:
When you go into Siena cabs only take 5 to 10 minutes to arrive and cost about 15 Euros. They have no problems finding the villa.

David , August

Overall:
We were celebrating grandmom's 70th anniversary with all the children and grandchildren, 13 people all together. The trip was a success.
Enjoyed Most:
The house was very suitable and useful for us overall. The pool was great--necessary on such hot summer days.
Enjoyed Least:
It was difficult to walk bearfoot outside because of the rough gravel in the yard. Also the ceramic tiles were very hot beside the pool. With 13 people in the house the amount of garbage and empty bottles generated was substantial. There weren't any big rubbish bin where we could put our waste. The kitchen was quite full of rubbish after one week.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful scene and peaceful surroundings. Very suitable for Finns. We found the singing of the cicadas interesting and small lizards funny.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena is 5 km away. Usually we drove there but the young ones ran some mornings when the weather was cooler.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring games for outside playing if you stay for a longer period. In walking distance there are two good pizzerias and in Siena there are lots of restaurants. We cooked a lot and barbecued.
Directions:
We identified the locatoin prior to departure with Google maps. One car had a GPS, two cars used a paper map and directions from Roma. We didnt get the coordinates.
Check In Out:
We thought that the security deposit did not include the cleaning payment, but it did. The electricity and gas were also included in the security deposit. We got some money back when leaving.

Matti, July

Overall:
Overall it was very good. Close to Siena and the autostrada. My children and grandchildren broke up the month by arriving at different times. The pool was delightful. there were many lounges and pool towels.
Enjoyed Most:
we enjoyed the pool almost every day. Our first week was chilly but then it warmed up.
Enjoyed Least:
I can't think of a thing!
Surrounding Area:
I fell in love with the Chianti region. It is sooo beautiful
Nearby Events or Locales:
The restaurants were close enough to walk (with flashlights). Food shopping was only by car.
Tips or Restaurants:
I brought lots of flashlights for walking in the evening. We never did find the bus schedule which would have been helpful. There was no House Book but we managed fine. Jesus was very helpful. The electricity was higher than we expected. Housekeeping once a week (mandatory) was 190.Euros. Guests should consider the cost of electricity and help to be 400 Euros a week
Directions:
We lost our way from Florence. I would not recommend flying into Florence. The connecting flight from Paris took off without us. Your directions were excellent.
Check In Out:
My son spoke Spanish so it was easy to check in. We were very delayed because of the missed flight but I called "Max" and he relayed messages to Jesus.

Kit, July

Overall:
We felt privileged to stay at such a great place. The view to the valley over the pool was pretty much what one would picture if you closed your eyes and pictured a Tuscany villa. Some of our party just spent days hanging out at the villa, swimming, drinking wine, eating cured meats and cheese.
Enjoyed Most:
Spectacular views, well maintained grounds, lots of room inside, plenty of beds and baths for our party of 8, including 5 adult women and two teenage girls.
Enjoyed Least:
The large living room area (the original chapel) wasn't inviting. There were two kitchens, but neither was spacious. However, these were minor and did not interfere with our enjoyment of the place at all.
Surrounding Area:
Nice walking close by to olive grove across the dirt road, pasture with horses down the road. Easy 10 minute access to parking for Siena Old Town; grocery store and main highway also within 5 - 10 minutes. We took several drives along back roads to small hill towns, drove into Florence one day and took the bus in another. Easy access (as long as you can read a map or have a good GPS).
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalbuccio doesn't have a market but does have a restaurant and a pizzeria (neither of which we tried, but both had good reviews). Maybe a 20 minute walk.
Tips or Restaurants:
One of our best meals was at Ristorante Il Fornacino in Guazzino, where you turn off the A1 from Rome onto Raccordo Autostradale to Siena. Our flight got into Rome in the morning, and we got to Sinalunga/Guazzino just in time for lunch. Great introduction to Tuscany.
Check In Out:
While we had no Italian speakers in our party, we were fortunate to have two fluent (one native) Spanish speakers, and the local property manager (Jesus) is also a native Spanish speaker (from South America). This made things much easier -- would have been difficult if we'd all only spoken English. The property gates are motorized and close automatically, so we initially drove by the property (to the location the GPS thinks is the property) since there was no indication that anyone was there.

Linda, June

Overall:
Our overall experience was excellent. Villa del Cielo is a beautiful property.
Enjoyed Most:
The views were amazing and the peace and quiet was just what we were looking for. The proximity to Siena was perfect for us.
Enjoyed Least:
These comments do not take away from our wonderful experience --however directions to the villa could be improved. Jesus was extremely accommodating but as he spoke so little English it might be an idea to have general housekeeping information written out in a few different languages thus eliminating the risk of miscommunication. We had a fairly wet, cool, week so the villa felt damp and a bit cold.
Surrounding Area:
The beautiful views exceeded our expectations. The proximity to Siena was very convenient and the nearby pizzeria and restaurant were great if we didn't feel like cooking.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montebucco is nearby and it is within walking distance. One of the couples in our group did walk back after dinner one night and although the road is narrow they had no problems. We had two small children with us so we drove instead.
Tips or Restaurants:
We all agreed that the kitchen was well stocked and anything extra you might need can be easily purchased at the Coop, such as plastic wrap, paper towels, etc. We enjoyed both restaurants very much. Yes, the wild boar stew was delicious but there were no menu disappointments whatsoever.
Directions:
We drove to the villa without a GPS and had a few problems. We used a GPS after that and found it to be a huge advantage. I would recommend using one.
Check In Out:
As mentioned earlier communicating with our extremely limited Italian was a bit difficult, although Jesus couldn't have been nicer. There were no real issues.

Adele, May

Overall:
Overall memorable. Very secure. Plenty of room for a party of eight. We dined in the Caminetto which has the better kitchen and dining room.
Enjoyed Most:
View and location. On-site guide book was very helpful. Jesus was outstanding and helped us whenever we needed him.
Enjoyed Least:
TV-new flat screens had trouble tuning to English stations but Jesus helped us get set up properly.
Surrounding Area:
Access to highway and pleasant country road walks.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena. Not close enough for walking.
Tips or Restaurants:
Great local restaurant nearby.
Directions:
GPS and directions were fine.
Check In Out:
Smooth check in and check out. Property management was excellent.

Dick, May

Overall:
It was just what I was looking for to accommodate nine adults comfortably in a rural Tuscan setting.
Enjoyed Most:
The architecture of the chapel gives the property a very special feel. There are so many wonderful entertaining areas indoors and outdoors. The views are breathtaking, especially at sunrise.
Enjoyed Least:
The entrance gate is narrow and the bottom of our car scraped against the road every time we went in or out. Not being able to communicate with Jesus, the property manager, was difficult. He did not set the thermostat as we requested, so one building had no heat and the other too much--which ran up our utility bill. Thankfully, this was corrected and we were not charged for utilities for the last two days.
Surrounding Area:
The proximity to Siena and the A1 superhighway makes it a great location for day trips all over Tuscany.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montebucco is nearby, but it's not a short walk. The road is narrow, too.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurant nearest the villa labeled with a "pizzeria" sign on the road is really good. They have a full menu, not just pizza, and dining on the patio for lunch is delightful. The dinner at the villa was great and there were enough leftovers for another meal, so it was very reasonably priced.
Directions:
It can be very easy to miss the property because the fence, gate, and hedges block any view of the house. An estimate of how long it takes to drive to the property from Florence would have been helpful.
Check In Out:
Again, communications were difficult because Jesus, the caretaker, does not speak English and our Italian was poor. He was very accommodating to us, though, and let us check in a little early and let us check out before all of us left the property.

R. Louis, November

Overall:
Our stay was wonderful. The villa and the grounds seem taken right out of a dream. My now husband and I held an intimate wedding reception and could not have asked for a more fantastic place. It truly feels as though you are staying in the sky amongst the clouds.
Enjoyed Most:
Eating outside under the pergola bug spray and mosquito coils are a must. Both patios offer fantastic views. The pool was a wonderful way to escape the heat.
Enjoyed Least:
Some of the beds were a bit hard. The driveway is quite steep and the gate narrow. Make sure to park at the end of the driveway and gather a bit of speed getting out of the gate.
Surrounding Area:
Walking down to the family restaurant, Ristorante Montalbuccio, was a treat. The food so fantastic we are still talking about it. Take the time to order the Wild Boar Stew and the Squid Ink Risotto.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The tiny Hamlet of Montalbuccio is within walking distance. There are two restaurants, both fantastic. The views at sunset along the road are amazing! Make sure to bring a torch for walking back.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa is well stocked with basics. Bring bug spray. Even in late September there were mosquitoes. There is a great market nearby, Conad, and the Coop is right by the train station. To enjoy this villa most, make sure to rent a car.
Directions:
We were not given directions. Once we had the address we looked them up ourselves using Google Maps. One great tip: follow the signs to the Balcaro. They will take you right to the Strada di Fornicchiaia.
Check In Out:
Jesus was very easy to work with and extremely patient with our limited Italian.

Amy , October

Overall:
Wonderful, relaxing, beautiful area of Italy, excellent view.
Enjoyed Most:
So much room. Felt like our home. Lots of herbs growing on the property, such as sage, rosemary, etc--really spiced up our dinners. It all felt very private.
Enjoyed Least:
One bed was too hard. One shower had to compete with the kitchen for hot water. No real problems.
Surrounding Area:
Close, yet far enough away from Siena. Beautiful views.
Tips or Restaurants:
The two restaurants close to the villa were both good.
Directions:
The directions were pretty good, but we still got lost. Not a lot of signs in Italy. Our GPS didn't work, but we did really well without it.
Check In Out:
Jesus was wonderful! It couldn't have been easier.

Cathy, September

Overall:
From the moment the automatic gates opened to the villa that we would call "home" for the impending week our faces beamed with excitement! The sprawling expanse of rolling hills, cyprus trees, olive trees, fruit trees and vineyards were exactly what we had hoped to find. The historical villa, immense in size, offered the true Tuscan experience, while delivering real privacy for all whether inside or out! The immaculately kept pool in conjunction with the spectacular views were responsible for us spending more time at the villa than we had anticipated! Albeit when we did take an afternoon or evening trip to Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa, and Florence the drive was relatively short from this location. Two quaint family owned restaurants within 2 kms made dining out convenient. All in all Villa Del Cielo with Caminetto was the backdrop to one of the most memorable vacations we have ever taken. Grazie!
Tips or Restaurants:
This is an amazing country retreat. You are surrounded by nature, so be cognizant of that! You can expect to see geckos and flies, etc.
Directions:
Don't rely on a GPS, rather follow the directions that are provided with the rental voucher!

Mark, September

Overall:
Wonderful. The villa is beautiful and located very near Siena.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool and view. The chef was fabulous and very friendly but did not speak any English
Enjoyed Least:
The gate. It wouldn't open sometimes and then would close on the car before we could get through.
Surrounding Area:
Chianti wineries.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nothing was within walking distance except two restaurants.
Tips or Restaurants:
Yes, keep in mind that utility charges are deducted from the security deposit. One week's electric and gas cost over 500 Euros. I wasn't expecting that.

Keith, August

Overall:
There were 7 of us and we had a wonderful time. The weather was fabulous and we had plenty of space with 3 bedrooms to spare
Enjoyed Most:
The property was gorgeous and the views to die for. The bedrooms were furnished beautifully and the bathrooms exceeded my expectations. It was great that we all had our own bathrooms.
Enjoyed Least:
The driveway into the property is very steep. It was great that the gate was remote controlled, but as it closed automatically I was always worried it would close on me while trying to exit the property. We were nervous driving. The roads were very narrow, steep, and had lots of switchbacks. By the end of the 2 weeks I was finally able to relax a bit and somewhat enjoy the drive.
Surrounding Area:
The countryside was just awesome. A picture postcard at every turn of the road.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalbucco was the closet town and we did walk to the 2 restaurants during the day. No one in my family was willing to walk there after dark due to the narrow lanes.
Tips or Restaurants:
The house was well appointed. Since we were only 7 we used the Caminetto kitchen exclusively; it had everything and more that we needed. We ate breakfast there everyday and one other meal. Every meal we had was absolutely perfect and the wine was to die for. I think we all drank more wine in those 2 weeks than we drink all year.
Directions:
Between the direction to the property and the GPS we only made one wrong turn.

Sonja, August

Overall:
Excellent! Exceeded expectations! Wonderful!
Enjoyed Most:
Spacious, beautiful setting. The grounds were wonderful for the kids to explore. Loved the fresh herbs for cooking. The indoor and outdoor tables for 12 were wonderful, and you couldn't beat the setting of the table under the vine-covered arbor. Enjoyed the surroundings, and the ability for multiple families to have both together space and separate space. Nice pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Utilities were expensive. Wi-fi coverage was limited within the property. The kitchen does not have the best layout for multiple cooks. A change of towels mid-week would have been nice. More kitchen dish towels would have also been appreciated since the signs indicated that we were not to wash the ones that were there. Since we cooked at the villa most nights, we did not have enough for dish drying and other kitchen usage.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery was beautiful and the various small towns had their own charms. There were so many diverse opportunities for day tripping by car, and Siena was convenient for catching the train to Florence. It's a beautiful area that is convenient for driving to most destinations in Tuscany.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalbuccio was within walking distance but as other reviewers noted, the narrow roads would discourage walking after dark. Not much reason to walk to Montalbuccio; groceries required a car.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a good wine opener, plastic wrap, napkins, paper towels, shampoo, toilet paper, and dishwasher detergent. Pool towels were provided so no need to pack those.
Directions:
Used the GPS, worked very well. Entered address on Google Maps as well as entered into GPS, but found the written directions from RentVillas easiest to use the first time traveling there, and then marked the location as a Favorite on the GPS, which made it easy for return trips.
Check In Out:
The process itself was excellent, but the 9 AM check-out time is very early--particularly with a larger group of families. Even a 10 AM check-out time would be helpful. Jesus was very helpful and friendly in answering any questions, and we managed to communicate with my son's fundamental Spanish and our broken Italian. Massimiliano called while we were checking in, which was helpful to confirm arrangements for the cook we had reserved for later in the week, and he called once or twice again during the week to see how things were going. We appreciated the smooth and efficient check in/check out, and both Jesus and Massimiliano's willingness to answer any questions we had throughout the week.

Kathleen, July

Overall:
Our overall experience was wonderfully enjoyable, from being met by Jesus and the gift of the fruit basket, to saying farewell to the place we called home for three magnificant weeks.
Enjoyed Most:
We immediately felt the tranquility both inside and out. Refreshing homemade meals, a place to come home to after a day of touring, enjoying walks and vistas, reading and relaxing in the hills of Siena were all present every day in such a variety of ways.
Surrounding Area:
The rooster and the coo-coo bird on the neighbors property was a great way to wake up in the morning. The roads to the many hill towns were great. The many places to visit were easy to find in our own time. We enjoyed the local markets, the historic Renaissance art, and the friendly people we met everywhere.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Siena was a 6 mile drive, or a 15 minute taxi ride.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring a willingness to let go of your busyness and enjoy the easy time in Tuscany. Bring an adventurous spirit to explore Siena, Florence, take a ride on a train, or tour a winery. There are very good city and country restaurants, most are advertised locally.
Directions:
We hired a driver from Rome, which is about the same cost as a train and taxi, who brought us directly to the property.
Check In Out:
Jesus was friendly, helpful, thorough in his orientation, and attentive to our needs.

Donald , June

Overall:
Wonderful, enjoyed it tremendously.
Enjoyed Most:
I enjoyed the beauty and surrounding scenery.
Enjoyed Least:
The showers were a bit small.
Surrounding Area:
Montalbuccio was a hidden gem and we found some great grocery stores in Siena.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalbuccio was within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
The Montalbuccio Restaurant was superb!
Directions:
WE had some trouble with the directions, but were able to find it.

Cheryl, May

Overall:
Overall experience was good. This was the first villa rental for any of us and it took a bit of time to orient to the property and ourselves individually. On a future trip, many of the surprises will be minimal. The keyholder and maintenance gentleman were especially attentive to any need.
Enjoyed Most:
The close proximity to so many wonderful villages and the exceptional access to Pisa, Florence and Siena. One of our couples even spent two days in Rome. We had a large welcome basket of food and supplies waiting for us. Although we had been advised that there would be no grocery stores open, there was a large Conad open on Saturday and for a limited time on Sunday. There were also two wonderful restaurants open almost every evening.
Enjoyed Least:
Probably the lack of comfortable furniture near the fireplace, which we used each evening. The chapel was too large to heat to a comfortable temperature without blowing our budget. We didn't have a clear idea of cost per day to heat the area, so didn't. Would highly recommend having warm clothing for inside. We were there in February-March and it was cold. Even had snow the day before we departed. The bedrooms were warm, some even had electric mattress pads or blankets. The challenge was always in warming the central area, especially after a day of traveling. There was no description nor history of the house and/or property, which would have been most interesting.
Surrounding Area:
The close proximity of wonderful villages and Siena. Roads in the vicinity were narrow, so although the scenery would be very beautiful, a fast-moving car made walking difficult.. and dangerous.
Nearby Events or Locales:
We were in the outskirts of Siena. It wasn't within walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
We had a most welcome assortment of bread, bottled water, butter, cookies, fruit, etc. upon our arrival. Most everything needed for preparing meals and/or personal needs was available nearby, so I wouldn't fill a suitcase with paper products, etc. There are two restaurants within a 10-minute ride, open around 7:30pm, both of which have an extensive menu. Other restaurants are within a 30-minute ride. We never lacked for food or variety.
Directions:
Our driver used a GPS on arrival which put us at the opposite end of the road to the property. Using your written directions would have been better. In general, both GPSs were not the most reliable. Maps were our best resource.
Check In Out:
Both were excellent. Jesus is a master.

Betty Lou, March

Overall:
We had a wonderful time. After traveling around the countryside everyday, it was nice to come back to our charming and spacious villa.
Enjoyed Most:
We liked the swimming area and the outdoor area. Spent a lot of time in the great room and in the dining room. Loved the sense of privacy.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen was less than adequately supplied with pots and pans. Abundance of plates, silverware, etc. We like to cook and some basic things just weren't there. Also, other villas we have rented in the past in France and Britain had 3-ring binders with "Everything You Need To Know About This Villa and Nearby Restaurants and Shopping". That would have been a HUGE help and great asset. Editor's Note: The manager has confirmed that there is a House Book, which must have been misplaced. Also, there are pots and pans, etc, in the two kitchens, so clients should check both.
Surrounding Area:
What's not to enjoy? We fell in love with Siena.
Tips or Restaurants:
The main restaurant down the street in Montalbuccio. This was a wonderful local restaurant with great food, wine and beer. Always a crowd of locals. The servers were incredibly gracious.

Doug, October

Overall:
We are two active outdoorsy families with three children each aged 5 - 12 and all enjoyed the large amount of space both inside and out. The pool was a big hit.
Enjoyed Most:
On warm evenings, we enjoyed dining outside and all loved the use of the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
We arrived on a gloomy day after a long rainy journey on the autostrada and August temperatures were much lower than usual. Probably because of this, our expectations of the villa were higher than the reality. The kids loved it but the paying adults were somewhat disappointed. The layout is funky and lots of the rooms were dark, particularly the chapel and the collective dining and sitting areas which is perhaps welcomed when it is hot. In our case, with the cool, rainy weather, it felt rather gloomy.
Surrounding Area:
The views from the villa are lovely and access to Siena is quick - 10 - 15 mins by car. A car is a must, even though there is a bus stop at the end of the road. twice a day. We visited lots of lovely hilltop medieval towns and a winery and spent a wonderful evening in Florence which is only 1 hour away.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalbuccio is a 10 minute walk and there are two restaurants, but there but no shop. There is little traffic but no sidewalk so we would suggest bringing a flashlight and reflective vests. We 10 of us all walked to the pizzeria.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring toilet paper, salt, spices, potato peeler and knife sharpener. Flashlight and reflective vests are useful if you plan on walking locally in the evening. There is a market on Wednesdays in Siena. GPS worked fine and brought us to the door. CD player provided, but iPod dock or speakers would be fantastic. Editor's Note: The owner will provide some basic spices, toilet paper, potato peeler, and flashlight. Additional supplies will need to be purchased. September 2010.
Directions:
GPS brought us there without any trouble. At Siena Ovest exit, look for brown signs to Belcaro.
Check In Out:
We were delayed on the autostrada due to weather and kept having to call Jesus to change our meeting time to get the keys etc. He was most accommodating.

Elly, August

Overall:
My experience was wonderful... what a wonderful place to have a large group to see Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:
The pool and outside dining area.
Enjoyed Least:
The view.
Surrounding Area:
Quiet and yet not too far from town.
Tips or Restaurants:
If anyone reads this just to let them know you need to bring nothing. the villa is well supplied with all cooking utensils, stove, dishwasher, washer and dryer. All you need to get when you go shopping is toilet paper and your food.
Directions:
I had people coming from all directions and we all did well. my husband and nephew landed in Pisa and took the train to Siena and grabbed a cab... one nephew and girlfriend landed in Florence and rented a car with GPS and had no problem. I landed in Paris and drove with my cousins from France and we used GPS and very easy. Also had another car of family driving from south of France and we all got there fine.
Check In Out:
Jesus was wonderful. He takes care of the property. Does not speak English but knew to call the manager on the phone and we got everything in order. The only thing i have to say is that if you rent this villa do plan not to arrive before 400. It was not a problem, only that it is a very large place and the housekeeping need the time to clean up from the week before.

geraldine, August

Overall:
Our week at the Villa exceeded our expectations!
Enjoyed Most:
The view! Almost every morning and every evening, we sat on the benches above the pool and drank in the glorious view of rolling hills and distant fields.
Enjoyed Least:
Washer very slow. Dryer did not work, we air dried our laundry. Really need to get a better coffee pot!
Surrounding Area:
There are so many great day trips to make from the Villa. One day we visited the Hill Towns of San Gimignano and Volterra. Another day we visited two wineries in Chianti. Another day we went to Florence. Another day we spent mostly in Siena, then had dinner cooked for us at the villa. Another day we rented a motorcycle and rode all up and down SR222 to Monteriggioni. Another day we visited Montalcino, the home of Brunello.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalbuccio had two restaurants, both were fine. Not really walkable, streets too narrow and dark at night, but a quick drive down the hill.
Tips or Restaurants:
The best and closest parking lot in Siena is on Fontabranda and signed S. Catarina when you go in. A quick walk up the hill, and you can ride the escalators the rest of the way. Terrific restaurant in Siena - Antica Osteria da Divo. Very elegant, part of the restaurant is built into an Etruscan tomb. Pino, the charming chef, was the one who clued us in to the correct parking lot after we got lost on the way in to his restaurant
Directions:
Our GPS kept insisting on taking us some weird very long and very dark back way to the house. We finally outsmarted it by programming Montalbuccio as our "home" -- no more problems. Once you find the roundabout in the directions, it is easy. How to find the roundabout once you exit at Siena Ovest is not very clear, and our GPS contradicted the instructions as soon as we exited. Suggest GPS users program for Montalbuccio, then the printed directions provided work perfectly.
Check In Out:
If your Italian is as limited as ours, ask Max a lot of questions up front! If you speak Spanish or good Italian, then Jesus definitely can tell you all you want to know. Jesus is wonderful, he volunteered to let us follow him to the train station and then the rental car drop off when we were leaving -- now that's service!!

Christine, June

Overall:
We had a large group and it was a good setting that afforded everyone some time alone or together as needed.
Enjoyed Most:
The outdoor setting, even though it was off season, was quiet.
Enjoyed Least:
The doors were tricky to lock and unlock and the utility cost was higher than expected. We did rent in March, however, so we needed the heat.
Surrounding Area:
There were 2 restaurants close by that we had dinner a few nights and the kitchens were well stocked to accommodate multiple chefs all at the same time.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I would say the winding roads didn't make it very walkable, although at sunset locals were out walking.
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought a few unusual utensils with us we needed, basting brush, spring-form pan, knife sharpener, and ipod radio. All came in handy and having music was nice in the evenings. We also purchased a lighter for the fireplace.
Directions:
We were not familiar with Siena and had a long drive in with no GPS. Tip: the Si-Fi highway means Siena to Florence.
Check In Out:
Be sure you have anticipated the utility costs (especially heating)above the requested deposit.

Tami, March

Overall:
An excellent vacation for me and my family. Better than I expected.
Enjoyed Most:
The luxurious feel inside and view of the countryside.
Enjoyed Least:
I had to be very careful driving through the gate each time I came and went. It was very narrow and I had no more than about a foot of total clearance. That was a minor problem at worst!
Surrounding Area:
Beautiful view of the Tuscan countryside.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There really is no small town close by. A very good restaurant with low prices and wonderful owner was about a half mile or so but the road was not great for walking. There was no place to get off the road when a car came by.
Tips or Restaurants:
Don't believe what some have said on the website about mosquitoes, etc. Unusual for an Italian villa, this place has screens on the windows that roll up like window shades and roll up screens on the doors. I was there in October when mosquitoes are probably not an issue, but even if they were, the villa would have been bug free anyway!
Directions:
I used a GPS. The numbering system on the road did not seem to be consecutive, and the GPS took me beyond the villa. If I were more attentive, I would have seen the number at the gate.
Check In Out:
Jesus was extremely accommodating at both the check-in and check-out. I had to shuttle some of my people back to the train station, and he was very patient in giving me extra time.

John, October

Overall:
This was our first time renting a villa and we couldn't have been more pleased. The Villa and surrounding grounds were lovely and very well maintained with plenty of room for several couples. The property managers were very attentive and the whole rental process with Rent Villas went very smoothly.
Enjoyed Most:
The outside areas were lovely and the view of the Tuscan countryside from the back of the property was beautiful. The location was very peaceful and quiet. We had perfect weather, so we could really enjoy the outside areas. The Chapel was unique and was a great place for a large group to relax. The Villa was well equipped and very well maintained.
Enjoyed Least:
Bugs and spiders. The rooster crowing at 4 am. Watch the steps in the Villa lots of little steps up and down inside and out.
Surrounding Area:
Loved the location for peace and quiet, but also very conveniently located to Siena and major roads. Great walk to take on the road right outside the villa with fantastic views going away from Montalbuccio.
Nearby Events or Locales:
The closest town, Montalbuccio, is very small and you could walk to it, but it would be a bit dangerous because the road is very narrow in places with walls or drop offs along the sides. We preferred to just jump in the car and drive down to Siena which was a short drive away. Find the parking lot with the escalator near the Duomo!
Tips or Restaurants:
The Villa has some American coffee makers and if you want to use them, bring coffee filters from home. Some couples in our group searched for them and couldn't find any in the Tuscany area. Some sharp knives would have been useful. A flashlight comes in handy at night not sure if there were any in the Villa, but we brought our own. Otherwise, we found the Villa very well stocked. We arranged to have a dinner prepared for us at the Villa through Rent Villas and it was great. Natalie and her assistants made a delicious dinner for us. Her tiramisu is a must!
Directions:
We found the Villa using the written directions supplied to us from Rent Villas without any problem. I also checked out Google Earth before our trip to get an idea of where the Villa was located in relation to Siena which proved helpful. Some others in our group used a GPS and that worked also.
Check In Out:
The check-in and check-out process went smoothly. Jesus and Massimiliano were very friendly and helpful. One person in our group spoke a little Spanish, so they could communicate some with Jesus, but I couldn't speak any Spanish, so I called Massimiliano with additional questions since he speaks fluent English and he was very helpful.

Michele, October

Overall:
The experience overall was great. There were 13 of us, and we enjoyed the villa, the location, beautiful views and wonderful accommodations.
Enjoyed Most:
The peacefulness and the many different areas to socialize by yourself or with others.
Enjoyed Least:
The gate was somewhat problematic, since we did not have enough clickers for the groups of people. This involved some sitting outside the gate till others arrived back to the villa.
Surrounding Area:
The views were spectacular.
Tips or Restaurants:
The restaurants on the road leading to the villa were both excellent and somewhat reasonable. Having a dinner cooked for us was a great way to enjoy our stay and local cooking.
Directions:
Due to a miscommunication our GPS did not arrive prior to our trip. This made navigating mostly around Siena very difficult. I would highly, highly recommend a GPS.

Elizabeth, September

Overall:
We were with our children and their spouses and two grandchildren and couldn't have picked a better villa. We had all the room needed to afford everyone their own space.
Enjoyed Most:
The spaciousness and the view.
Enjoyed Least:
Bedrooms in the Caminetto were oddly configured and the single room had a window that was unreachable. The two kitchens had different types of electrical outlets, one, two, and three prongs and some appliances did not work.
Surrounding Area:
Villa was in a great central location and allowed for day trips to the surrounding countryside as well as Florence and Pisa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalbuccio is within walking distance, but not with children.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring bug spray, paper goods, plug converters specifically for Italian electrical outlets.
Directions:
Used GPS and had no trouble finding the villa
Check In Out:
Jesus is wonderful and very helpful. He doesn't speak English, but we managed with our broken Spanish.

Helen, July

Overall:
The Villa was a wonderful property - it had plenty of space for several couples to enjoy private time, and plenty of large spaces for us all to get together.
Enjoyed Most:
The large spaces - the outside loggias and the chapel where we could all get together. But also, the Villa was very well equipped with crockery, serving plates, platters. We spent lots of time cooking and eating, and it was great to be able to present the products of our labour beautifully.
Enjoyed Least:
The bathrooms are functional and clean but a little weary.
Surrounding Area:
Apart from its beauty - it was very convenient to get to reasonable sized supermarkets to get all the necessities.
Tips or Restaurants:
We discovered our cooking abilities!
Check In Out:
Jesus and Mssimiliano were very helpful.

Bronwyn, June

Overall:
Very good.
Enjoyed Most:
The view from the back of the house overlooking the valley -stunning view
Enjoyed Least:
The bedroom we chose to use had a very small bathroom but all the rest of the people in our party were satisfied with their bathrooms.
Surrounding Area:
Very country-like atmosphere. We enjoyed the walks near the property.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Nothing really close enough to walk to.
Tips or Restaurants:
No need to bring anything except personal toiletries. House is extremely well equipped with anything that you might need.
Directions:
We used a GPS.
Check In Out:
Jesus did everything he could to accommodate us. Could not have done more.

Timothy, June

Overall:
Wonderful
Enjoyed Most:
The property was spacious and the grounds were beautiful.
Enjoyed Least:
It took several days for the Internet connection to work.
Surrounding Area:
We loved Siena and the proximity to the main roads.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalbucio was not within walking distance of the villa.

Darin, May

Overall:
They stay was very peaceful and provided a great location to relax. We enjoyed the villa so much we didn't feel we had to be on the run all the time to "get the most" out of Tuscany.
Enjoyed Most:
The quiet and the view. The open space to be able to roam. Our kids spent hours exploring the olive groves.
Enjoyed Least:
Some of the stairways were difficult for our older parents and dangerous for small children.
Surrounding Area:
Easy access to Siena and surrounding towns.
Tips or Restaurants:
We ate all of our evening meals in the home. We brought some games and just enjoyed the property.
Check In Out:
Even though Jesus did not speak English, the process worked well and I was very comfortable.

Rod, April

Overall:
The Villa is exceptional, so beautiful as well as the surrounding property.
Enjoyed Most:
Very spacious, and peaceful.
Enjoyed Least:
Spiders and mosquitoes are plentiful, so don't forget the repellent.
Surrounding Area:
You are so close to so many wonderful towns and cities. It is easy to take day trips from the Villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Belcaro was withing walking distance.
Tips or Restaurants:
If you drive, rent or buy a GPS. The directions to the Villa must be followed exactly, when you first arrive. If not, you'll will get lost. I found all the restaurants to be very good. We had two dinners prepared at the villa by local cooks which were very nice.
Directions:
Make it easy on yourself, get a GPS.
Check In Out:
It would have been nice to have someone who we could communicate with during check in and check out. I wish I knew more Italian.

Susan, October

Overall:
Lovely setting, interiors and exterior. Great walking out front gate. Peaceful with multiple gathering or "alone" areas.
Enjoyed Most:
Interior-exterior building appearance and feel. Gorgeous setting with very easy access to Siena
Enjoyed Least:
Could not get heat in chapel. Coffee pots, 2 of 3, need replacing as they made coffee very slowly. if at all. Electrical plug converters from the small appliances coffee, toaster, etc were incompatible - prongs to thick to fit in several of the outlets. Plumbing in chapel upstairs bath - not over kitchen - was very loud. Shower below that bathroom let out a big stream of brown water once. Really could benefit from clear written history of the villa and chapel on premises. List of nearby restaurants would be helpful. Some beds had comforters but ALL beds need them. Editor's Note: The heating was on, but the temperature level is adjustable manually by the client. More convertor plugs have been provided, as well as coffee pots. November 20008.
Surrounding Area:
Easy walking on roads around Villa with views and insights into estate, olive grove and vineyard living.
Directions:
One car used GPS and came to Villa from opposite end of road that written directions indicated.
Check In Out:
Heat timer was either not set correctly or malfunctioned.

Fred, October

Overall:
We, a party of 10, had a fabulous stay at Villa Del Cielo. Everything was exactly as described and Jesus was extremely sweet and helpful.
Enjoyed Most:
We loved all the space at the villa. We had plenty of room and never felt cramped or on top of each other.
Enjoyed Least:
The kitchen in Caminetto was better equipped and bigger, but the outdoor dining area although very comfortable, didn't have any lighting. We ended up cooking in Caminetto kitchen and bringing the food up to Del Cielo's outdoor dining area. A bit of a hassle.
Surrounding Area:
Absolutely everything! Waking to the rooster crowing, the beautiful views, the absolute peace and quiet and, of course, the refreshing pool.
Nearby Events or Locales:
There are two restaurants within walking distance, but I would not recommend walking home in the dark. The winding roads make it difficult to see pedestrians at night.
Tips or Restaurants:
Both nearby restaurants were very good, but the one a bit further away, on the right side of the road had a slightly larger menu including pizza and descriptions in English. Very helpful for our 5 children.
Check In Out:
Jesus was there waiting for us to arrive and was also kind enough to lead us to the nearest grocery store which is a good 10-15 minute drive.

Deborah, August

Overall:
It was a peaceful and relaxing stay at this villa, and a week that flew by too quickly. The expansive views of many olive groves, vineyards, and the buildings that dot the countryside continue to remain with us in memory. The villa has a rustic feel, but it is well complemented with the luxuries and conveniences we needed, including a large American-style refrigerator. We rented both parts of the villa, and with seven people including a two year old toddler, there was plenty of room to enjoy the experience.
Enjoyed Most:
The views and privacy are unparalleled. The appeal of the villa's chapel is an obvious one, but the newer addition also holds its own with this architecture buff. There is unusual masonry - steel beam - rustic wood detailing, and a sun room where the glass and metal roof structure is supported by arms attached to walls, and then covered by clay tile. The gutter and downspouts providing drainage from the inward sloping roofs are inside this room! There's a wealth of helpful tourist books, information, CDs and DVDs left by former renters, and a large American-style coffee pot in the back kitchen.
Enjoyed Least:
I was disappointed by the new chapel main room furniture. It appeared after complaints from former renters regarding its shabbiness, the dramatic emerald green furniture in the images was replaced by more standard furniture. Fortunately the unique architectural detailing overshadows the changes. The back bedrooms in the newer addition have a slight musty smell. Editor's Note: The issue of the musty odor was addressed mid-summer in 2014 and the problem has been resolved; the owners continue to monitor for recurrence. May, 2015.
Surrounding Area:
Siena is located very close to the villa, so it is only a quick jaunt by car to the sites and scenery of this magical destination.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalbuccio has a small collection of buildings that hug the rural road up to the villa. It is a healthy and scenic walk from the villa.
Tips or Restaurants:
The villa is only accessible by renters through the driveway gates operated by remotes, so if you are expecting non-staying guests, be sure to listen carefully for an arriving car, or better yet, recommend they have a cell phone to call you upon arrival. A GPS is helpful in navigating the many winds and turns of the Tuscan country roads.
Directions:
A GPS is greatly beneficial in finding your way to the property.

Vincent, July

Overall:
We had a very pleasant experience! Jesus was very nice, he even got his compressor to fill up our flat tire when we were checking out.
Enjoyed Most:
Everything! The view was spectacular. It was very beautiful and spacious. Plenty of peace and quiet.
Enjoyed Least:
Some people had a hard time figuring out the washer and dryer.
Surrounding Area:
It was very close for day trips.
Nearby Events or Locales:
You could walk to Montalbucio if you like to walk.
Directions:
We had an easier time following written directions than those with a GPS.

Janis, July

Overall:
We had a great time overall. The property is beautiful and the view amazing. The villa is rambling and a bit musty which sort of added to the charm. We cooked up some fabulous meals
Enjoyed Most:
The privacy, the view, and of course the pool.
Enjoyed Least:
Beds were really hard.
Surrounding Area:
The proximity to Siena was terrific.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I wish there had been a walkable restaurant for dinner. We had a large group and didn't want to tackle the dark roads into Siena at night time.
Directions:
Directions were good but when we arrived the gate was locked and it took some shouting to get the property managers attention.
Check In Out:
The manager speaks no English. It took some trial and error to figure out how the washer-dryer and dishwashers all worked.

Jackie, June

Overall:
Excellent property.
Enjoyed Most:
Grounds, views, peace and quiet, number of bedrooms, and the 1-2 hours drive to most regions in Tuscany.
Enjoyed Least:
Utility costs.
Surrounding Area:
Chianti region. Beautiful countryside, towns, and food.
Tips or Restaurants:
GPS system a must if travelling to smaller areas at night.

Terry, May

Overall:
Great. The house was spacious, clean, and the outside and surrounding area is stunning. The interior was nice but not luxurious, although certain bedrooms were really quite charming. There wasn't a great indoor space for hanging out, although the chapel ended up being a favorite spot. The pool was incredible!
Enjoyed Most:
The exterior...the patio, bench overlooking Tuscany, and the pool were all highlights.
Enjoyed Least:
Parts of the interior were rather dated and dark, but all very clean and comfortable.
Surrounding Area:
It was gorgeous. We took some nice walks out from the villa and Siena is VERY close which is convenient. There are also a few great little restaurants about a 5-minute drive from the villa.
Nearby Events or Locales:
I don't know the name, but there were a few restaurants that were sort of in walking distance. They weren't far, but it's not very safe to walk really far on curvy roads without sidewalks. We had cars, and we could easily drive down the road for lunch.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would definitely advise using the chef service that rentvillas can set up for you. The food was out of this world - probably the best Italian fare I've ever had and the set-up was very organised, professional and stress-free...and reasonably priced! We ended up having 2 dinners cooked for us, and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
Check In Out:
Jesus the property manager was extremely helpful. He doesn't speak English, though, but we were able to communicate in Spanish!

Millie, May

Overall:
We had a fantastic time. It couldn't have been better - even more than we had hoped for. My husband and I took five other couples with us as guests for the 2 weeks and were delighted, as everybody else was, on arriving at the Villa. A magnificent holiday, spent in magnificent surroundings in beautiful, beautiful Tuscany. We would highly recommend Villa del Cielo with Caminetto to any large group - it is truly a beautiful venue
Enjoyed Most:
Jesus was totally wonderful our whole stay. The Manager and the Owner even helped us out over the phone; but the absolute BEST was the young chef and her husband who cooked for us on 5 nights! The food was absolutely unbelievable and such a treat. They were so courteous, efficient and always on time. We were a big group and we were catered for superbly.
Enjoyed Least:
We had been warned, but, we were blown away by the energy bill at the end of the stay (we were a large group and everyone arrived with bags of dirty washing - if only they knew what it costs their hosts!!!).

Leslie, November

Enjoyed Most:
The expansive view.
Enjoyed Least:
1. The extremely high utility bill-- about 400 Euros. 2. In the caminetto, there was no comfortable furniture around the fireplace. 3 We felt the dinner cooked for us was mediocre.
Surrounding Area:
The view was stunning and we had a great base to explore the gorgeous, gorgeous Tuscan countryside.
Tips or Restaurants:
Bring/buy things like dish detergent. Bring warm clothes and slippers if your bedroom is in the chapel. Go on a wine tour; go to hot springs at Rapaleto if you have a cold rainy day.

Diana, November

Overall:
The villa was exactly as described. We loved it!
Enjoyed Most:
We especially enjoyed the phenomenal views and the absolute peace and quiet. Even though our group was relatively small with seven, we appreciated the tremendous amount of space available. We loved sitting outside with our morning coffee in the areas off of the two kitchens.
Enjoyed Least:
I honestly can't think of anything we enjoyed least--it was exactly as we expected it to be and more.
Surrounding Area:
We enjoyed the privacy the villa afforded and yet the proximity to Siena and the autostrada.
Tips or Restaurants:
We did a lot of our own cooking, but did hire Carmen to come in and prepare a lovely meal.
Check In Out:
Jesus was very professional and gracious at both check in and check out.

Susan, October

Overall:
Make sure to spend some time at the villa. It may just be a home base, but it was a truly amazing place to just be lazy. DEFINATELY have Carmen cook you a meal. She is so sweet and her dinner was the most fantastic meal we ate in 14 days in Italy.
Enjoyed Most:
I knew other friends and family who had stayed at the property but pictures and stories could not do it justice. The grounds were perfectly groomed. The villa was immaculate. Each time our family brings up the trip, everyone says the best part was enjoying each other's company in the villa. It is a magical little place. The chapel area living room was the perfect spot for our end of the evening, post-dinner socializing. Jesus and Max were fantastic.
Enjoyed Least:
It would be difficult to complain about any aspect of this property. There was a slight sewer smell outside but only when the wind blew a certain way. We did well with the coffee pot having read so many complaints. Honestly, nothing really took away from how gorgeous it was.
Surrounding Area:
The local restaurant closest to the villa was fantastic. The octopus there was out of this world. We loved Siena. We did a family run while visiting and the surrounding roads and farms were so beautiful. The close proximity to the autostrada was helpful for day trips as well.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Walking distance? Depends on your crowd. We drove almost everywhere as we were walking all day while touring. The villa is remarkably quiet and quaint considering its close proximity to Siena. You can walk to Montelbuccio for sure.
Tips or Restaurants:
We were a party of 12. Each person brought a different item due to their own paranoia. Everything from extra toilet paper, band-aids, cooking utensils that we left behind, CD's, snacks, and flashlights. My suggestion is to read the reviews and divy up anything you think you may need. Of course you should bring wine to have at home. The villa was well organized. DEFINATELY have Carmen cook you a meal. She is so sweet and her dinner was the most fantastic meal we ate in 14 days in Italy.
Check In Out:
Be aware that there is not doorbell or buzzer so you must honk a horn or yell like a fool to alert people of your arrival. It was rather comical for our party of 12.

Brie, October

Overall:
The pool was still open in October, and because it was so inviting, several of the party went swimming. The property is full of herbs to use in cooking.
Enjoyed Most:
Like everyone else, it was the setting. We sat for hours, both in the morning and evening just enjoying the views and atmosphere. Also good for birdwatching. The inside was very spacious with a great dining room table that easily sat all eleven of us.
Enjoyed Least:
We stayed here during the first part of October. Several of the bedrooms in the non-chapel section felt damp. Later we realized we should have turned on the electical room heaters that were provided a little while before turning in.
Surrounding Area:
Well this is a plus and minus. We were totally away from all hustle and bustle, but on the other hand, there were some curvy tiny roads to travel to get to any main road. There are two nearby restaurants, neither walkable to at night.
Tips or Restaurants:
Because we ate such big lunches in the towns we visited, we would often buy local cheese, salami, olives, greens and bread and of course wine to have for dinner back at the villa. For us this was great fun. Also, the dinner cooked at the villa was good. We had the roast pork and potatoes - excellent.

Deborah, October

Overall:
I take a lot of vacations and I can count on one hand the number of times I didn't want to go home at the end. This was one. Make sure you go for at least two weeks.
Enjoyed Most:
The peace and serenity was outstanding. We often sat for hours on the bluff above the pool to hear the silence. The early Tuscan morning haze made the property seem as though it was from another world. It was exactly what we were looking for. Jesus was wonderful. He took us the Grocery store, the local Churches, the Bancomat, etc. September was the time to go to Italy, perfect weather.
Enjoyed Least:
The only thing that could be improved was the availability of some firewood near the barbecue. Americans love to barbecue. There was firewood on the grounds but it was a bit of a hike. The barbecue briquettes that you can buy in Italy do not generate enough heat. We barbecued often and it was great.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery was beautiful. The local churches were great on Sunday. We went to church at the local convent, it was one of the highlights of our trip. The remoteness made us feel that after a busy day we were able to go back to our hideout for rest.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Wow. Too many to single one out. The restaurants were exactly what you would expect in Italy. Wonderful!!
Tips or Restaurants:
Car is a must. Parking at the villa is most ample. Rent a GPS for your car. I was so impressed with the little Garmin I rented that we bought one when we got home. Use an ATM card for getting your Euros, best exchange rate. Pay cash for everything, charge cards add a service charge, you will save 10% at least. I drove to Venice, Florence, Ausonia between Rome and Naples, many small towns. Italian drivers in cities were nuts, but nothing that you don't find in Chicago. Only Rome was a problem, worse than Venice.
Directions:
Make sure you use a GPS, it led us right to the door.
Check In Out:
Very smooth

Jim, September

Enjoyed Most:
The location and the setting were amazing. The house is very close to Siena and to the Siena - Florence Autostrada which made it easy to get around.
Enjoyed Least:
Two things -- the kitchen and the electrical outlets. It was challenging to cook in the house because there are two kitchens, neither one of which is quite adequate. We ended up using one kitchen for breakfast and the other kitchen for lunch and dinner, because it seemed bigger and better equipped. There were different kinds of electrical outlets throughout the house so we weren't ever sure which adapter to use where. The house has many adapters.
Surrounding Area:
We loved Siena. It is a lovely city and we were lucky enough to visit during the Palio. It was fun to see the city and the people gear up for the festivities. Rentvillas also set us up with a great tour guide of Siena, who I would highly recommend. Her name was Stella Soldani. She gave us a lots of background on the city, talked to us about the contrade and took us to see the major sights. We also enjoyed the local restaurant -- we only got to the one closer to the house.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Montalbucio was the closest town. I suppose you could walk there but we didn't want to walk with 6 children. The roads are narrow and winding.
Tips or Restaurants:
We especially enjoyed day trips to Montalcino and Cortona. Florence is an easy day trip as well. It was a real treat to have Carmen cook for us because the Villa is so beautiful and restful, it's great to have dinner at home while someone else cooks. Ask her to cook the pork and roasted potatoes with rosemary and sage and her porcini mushroom risotto. They were delicious, as was her tiramisu.

Laura, August

Overall:
The entire villa provided beautiful, private spaces for our large family. Our grandchildren found it magical!!! We all loved the 2 loggias for al fresco dining.
Enjoyed Most:
The property was a perfect playground for the grandchildren to set lizard traps, chingula traps, play hide and seek and run around in the open spaces. We loved having a "local" castle and monastery nearby. The pool was fabulous.
Enjoyed Least:
Little mice running into the villa, but, Jesus was very attentive and great to work with. He supplied our every need. The dust from the road was partly trapped by the fencing surround, but, not completely.
Surrounding Area:
Walking to Castella Belcaro, Monastery trips, the little farm across the road, and our quiet surroundings.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Monalbuccio was a 15 min. walk away that supplied us with a wonderful restaurant and our first friend, Eva, who waited our table. Plus the pizzeria was good and we walked there often.
Tips or Restaurants:
We also love Monteriggioni, a nearby walled town with a great restaurant, Il Pozzo. What to bring? Probably less than planned, our every need was filled.
Check In Out:
Jesus did everything ever needed

Cindy, July

Overall:
It was a lovely place for a large extended family.
Enjoyed Most:
The elegance of the home and the property.
Enjoyed Least:
Nothing
Surrounding Area:
Loved the proximity to town.

Robert, June

Overall:
This is a great property for a group of 5 couples. We had Carmen cook a couple of evenings and these were 2 of the best meals we had in Tuscany. The only extra we needed was a set of bocce balls!
Enjoyed Most:
We were a group of 10 friends and the size of the rental was the best thing. We all had good rooms, there were lots of quiet nooks and a big living room and dining areas that would easily accommodate all of us. W had pretty good weather so the pool was a great spot as well.
Enjoyed Least:
Jesus is a very nice man and very accommodating but he does not speak any English. He had us speak to the owner who helped. It would be helpful to have an English manual to explain the appliances, trash disposal, local amenities, etc. Editor's Note: There is a new English-speaking contact person for this villa. May 2007.
Surrounding Area:
Very beautiful and peaceful.
Tips or Restaurants:
We brought a portable GPS system with European maps and walkie talkies to keep our 2 cars in contact. This made our day trips very easy. In fact, I can't imagine how we could have gotten along without it.
Directions:
We followed our GPS and it took us right to the door.

Sandy, May

Enjoyed Most:
It was a beautiful setting, and the house was funky. We were able to spread out and not be on top of each other.
Enjoyed Least:
It was dark inside, a little damp and cool. We found it buggy outside for eating.
Surrounding Area:
Siena is a nice town, although we mostly took day trips from here.
Tips or Restaurants:
Campo grocery seemed to have everything we needed. We brought some of the things suggested in the Rentvillas book, but didn't use all of them. We did bring some spices and used them. We had Carmen cook for us one night, and it was delicious, but expensive
Directions:
We were able to find it with the directions we got from you.
