About The Experience
Villa Maderno is part of a historic hillside estate overlooking Lake Garda. Surrounded by an olive grove and fruit trees, the beautiful garden area is equipped with a Jacuzzi with lake views, and tables and chairs for al fresco dining. Situated close to Toscolano Maderno, lakefront towns like Salo and Gardone Riviera and water activities, such as boat rentals and windsurfing, are easily accessible by car or ferry.
Location Description

This historic estate is located just three kilometers from the center of Toscolano Maderno, located on the western side of Lake Garda. With its clear water, mild climate and Mediterranean vegetation, Lake Garda sits like a small sea set halfway between Venice and Milan. Garda has been a favored spot since Roman times and has been lauded by poets and writers through the ages, including Goethe, Joyce, and D'Annunzio. There are many interesting little towns situated along the coast or up the hills, like Salo, Gardone Riviera, and Sirmione, rich with history, culture, good restaurants, and shops. In Toscolano Maderno, there are bars, Tabacchi shops, and Trattoria San Carlo, which serves wonderful food. A larger shopping center with pharmacy, groceries, post office and bank is also close by, while the nearest train station is in Desenzano del Garda. Accessing sights on the opposite side of the lake is made easy by a half-hour ferry connection from Toscolano Maderno to Torri del Benaco, running every 30 minutes.

Nearby Attractions: Sights to see in Toscolano Maderno include the 12th century church of S. Andrea and its Parish (with work by Paolo Veneziano and Paolo Veronese), the Valle delle Cartiere (where the paper-making industry once flourished), the 16th century church of Santi Pietro e Paolo, and the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Benaco. There are also opportunities for many activities around the lake including windsurfing, sailing, golf, rock-climbing, and even bungee jumping!

Outstanding. The villa was extraordinary, the view unbelievable and the setting breathtaking.
Enjoyed Most:
The uniqueness of the property...from every room or balcony there was a beautiful view. The property was very large, lots of areas to relax. We loved everything about the property!!
Enjoyed Least:
The fact that you had to drive up winding narrow roads to reach the property. There is another villa next door.
Surrounding Area:
Once you came down the mountain, there were many small towns easily accessible. We did day trips every day and there were many wonderful activities to keep you as busy as you wanted to be.
Nearby Events or Locales:
Maderno is at the bottom of the winding road. One could not walk it easily.
Tips or Restaurants:
I would do a grocery shop before arriving at the villa. There are a few supermarkets in town. Because it is so high up the hill, you usually want to stay put for a while, once arriving. The key holder agent will advise on restaurants and there is also a book on premises with that info.
A GPS is really necessary.. Also, it is necessary to have the key holder waiting for you because she has to open the gates to let you in.
Check In Out:
Our key holder, Vera, was very helpful. She showed us around, answered any questions we had and made the check in and check out very easy.

Enjoyed Most:
The views and the feelings of being "lord of the manor".
Enjoyed Least:
The drive up the hills and the distance from town.
Surrounding Area:
The scenery; the lovely towns; the relatively short distances to Como and the Dolomites; lots of places and things to see (Mt Baldi etc)
Nearby Events or Locales:
Moderno-Toscalano; not within walking distance.
We did use a GPS. There are steeps hills and curves to reach the property, but it's well worth it!
Check In Out:
It was handled very professionally by Vera.
